INTRODUCTION [INTRO] / \/ \######################################################################## -------- Welcome to my official FAQ for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. This game is a well refined remake of the original Ocarina of Time released in 1998 for the N64. In my opinion, if you loved the original, you will adore this one. This Guide will cover everything there is to know about this game, so let this be your go to resource. Anyway, without further ado, let's begin. /\ / \ ----########################################################################## /\ /\ III. It finally does away with the segmented arms and legs look of the last two versions. Instead, everything is smoothed out much nicer. The sharp edges of the character models are gone and they look much more like modernized LoZ characters. Same goes for the environments. Alot of people still cling to the look of the older versions, which I never understood as ugly as they were. Touch Screen Interface- Obviously, the previous two versions had no touch screen. I personally love the way the Touch Screen is used in this. It makes the entire game much more Control-friendly. Gyroscope- Kinda goes along with the Touch Screen. The 3DS has a built-in Gyroscope, allowing you to maneuver the camera simply by moving your 3DS system around. Once again, much more control-friendly. Sheikah Stones- Also new to the 3DS version are special stones called Sheikah Stones. These offer you hints as to where to go next by showing you short clips of the past and future. Very useful if you get lost. Boss Gauntlet- Yet another new addition to the 3DS. This is a special mode that is unlocked only once you beat the normal game. It allows you to face off against all the bosses in the game one after another. Master Quest- Finally, while not in the N64 version, this feature WAS present in the GameCube port as an added bonus. It makes a return in the 3DS version. This mode is only unlocked after beating the normal game. Master Quest is essentially a reversed version of the original game with added challenges in dungeons and an increased difficulty. All of this makes it much harder than the original game. If you want to play a second time and want more of a challenge, this Mode is perfect for you. /\ / \ ----########################################################################## /\ /\ V. NORMAL WALKTHROUGH [WALK1] / \/ \######################################################################## -------- ============================================================================== KOKIRI'S EMERALD [KOKIEM] ============================================================================== Start a New Game and the game will ask you to name the Main Character. I like to go with the default name, Link. So, that is what he will be referred to as in this FAQ. Anyway, once you're done naming him, start up that file. After a long drawn out scene involving a fairy and the Great Deku Tree, the fairy will end up in your house trying to wake you from a nightmare. Once you're awake, she will introduce herself as Navi and tell you to go see the Great Deku Tree. She will then join you and you will gain control of Link. There's nothing to do in your house, so just exit out the doorway. <--KOKIRI FOREST--> Welcome to Kokiri Forest. As soon as you exit your house, a kokiri girl named Saria will run up to you and wave. Go down the ladder and speak to her. She will tell you how happy she is to see that you finally have your own fairy. Once you're done talking to Saria, go north on the path. When it splits, head east. You should reach a small pond. Jump across the small islands to reach the other side and the entrance to the Great Deku Tree. As you approach, you'll find another Mido blocking the path to the Tree. Speak to this jerk and he will criticize the fact that you have a fairy and won't let you pass unless you have a Sword and Shield. Now, we have 2 main goals. Getting a Sword and a Shield. It does not matter which one you get first. You need both anyway. But, we will start with the Sword. Head back across the pond and follow the path all the way back to the intersection where you first met Saria. This time, follow the path west which should take you up a hill. Here, you'll find a house and a little Wooden fence maze called the Forest Training Center. Traverse the small maze to get to the back of it. Ignore the signs for now. At the back of the maze, you see a small hole in the wall. Tilt the Circle Pad toward the hole and press A to crouch and crawl through it. On the other side, you'll notice a little cubby hole to your right and a narrow square-shaped passage to your left with a boulder rolling around. Wait until the boulder passes and go ahead and enter the maze. Quickly run north here behind the boulder. You can duck into a second cubby hole if you need to. Keep following the square-shaped passage counter-clockwise while staying behind the boulder and you will see a third and final cubby hole that contains a chest. Go ahead and open the treasure chest. Inside, you will find the [_KOKIRI SWORD_]. Go into the Gear Menu on the touch screen and tap the sword to equip it. There. Now all we need is the Shield. The Deku Shield is not hidden. You must buy it from the Kokiri Shop. But, it's not cheap. It will cost you 40 Rupees. So, we will need to find that many around the village. But, don't worry. They're everywhere. While you are here in this boulder maze, be sure to collect the Blue Rupee which is found in the first cubby hole you passed. Blue Rupees are worth (5). Go ahead and exit this place back through the hole in the wall. With your freshly obtained sword, you can read the signs placed everywhere in this small wooden fence maze. Although, I already have it all listed in the controls section. Alright, so let's go back down the hill and start Rupee hunting. You can do this the hard way or you can do it the cheap and lazy way. If you don't feel like hunting down all of the different rupee locations, then there is a trick to obtaining 40 rupees quickly. You will find a house with a cluster of rocks just outside it. This is Mido's House. Just east of here, you will see three square-shaped platforms sitting in the water. Now, you will need to run and jump across these platforms without falling into the water. If you are successful, you will be rewarded with a Blue Rupee. How is this the cheap and lazy way? Simple. Go into the shop on the other side. Exit the shop and you will find that the platform jumping rupee reward will be reset. You can keep doing this multiple times without ever having to go anywhere else to accumulate 40 rupees. Now for the normal way to get 40 rupees. The first, was jumping across the platforms and getting a Blue Rupee once. I will list all of the other ways to get more rupees. Pick up the rocks near Mido's House and throw them for a chance to get some Green Rupees (1). Using your sword, cut down the grass in front of Saria's House for a chance to get some green rupees. You can also go inside her house if you need any Recovery Hearts. There are a couple of brush spots located around the village. Simply walk through these to get Green Rupees. Go behind Mido's House to find a Blue Rupee. Open the Chests inside Mido's House to get more Blue Rupees. Behind Saria's House there is a ramp. Go up the ramp and carefully across the bridge. At the end, you will find yet another Blue Rupee. Once you've visited all of these locations, you should have more than 40 Rupees. Go straight to the shop and buy the [_DEKU SHIELD_]. Once again, go into the Gear Menu and tap the shield to equip it. Once you have both a Sword and Shield, go back to Mido who will finally let you pass. Make your way through this small passage and you will encounter your first enemy, Withered Deku Babas. These are very easy enemies as they cannot move. They simply sit there and rattle. One swing of the sword will take care of these guys. Just don't stand too close to them for too long or they'll start swinging they're stalk around to try and hit you. When you kill these guys, they will drop a [_DEKU STICK_]. You can use these as a weaker sword OR you can use them as torches. They will be handy for the first dungeon so hang on to them. Follow the path to an opening where a cutscene will ensue. Here, the Great Deku Tree is waiting and he will tell you that he has been cursed and asks you to venture inside of him to eliminate the source. He then opens his mouth revealing a gaping hole in the tree. When you are ready, enter to take on the game's first Main Dungeon. <--GREAT DEKU TREE--> Dungeon #1 You will enter the tree to a large hollow room. In here you will encounter another new enemy, the actual Deku Baba. The ones you fought earlier were actually a weaker variant of these. Although these Deku Babas cannot move either, they are a bit more dangerous than the other one because they can lunge at you. It will take 2 hits to kill these. They can drop one of two different items depending on how you kill them. If you swing at them once and wait a second, they will stand upright like their withered variety. If you hit them a second time and kill them while they're standing upright, they will drop a Deku Stick. If you hit them twice and kill them with no time in betweenn they will drop a new item, [DEKU_NUT]. Pretty much the only use Deku Nuts have are the ability to stun enemies when thrown at them. They are quite useful when killing hard enemies. Once you've eliminated the Deku Babas in this room, clmb up either the vines or the ladder nearby. Follow the ledge that goes around the tree, and you'll come to a large tresure chest. Open it to obtain the [_DUNGEON MAP_]. This will reveal the entire Dungeon map. Avoid the vines for now and continue along until you come to a door. Go through the door and you will face a new enemy, the Deku Scrub. You can't harm these guys up close because they will flee under the brush that they sit on. Stay at a distance and they will fire Deku Nuts at you. To get rid of these guys, just hold L to lock on to them and and hold R at the same time to reflect it's Deku Nuts back at it with your shield. Once it's hit, it will flee to the back of the room. Hurry up and catch up to it now. Once you've caught it, it will apologize and usually give you some sort of hint before disappearing. As soon as you catch this one, it will give you a helpful hint, drop a Recovery Heart, and the doors to the room will unbar themselves. Go through the newly unlocked door to advance to the next room. In this room, you'll notice a floating platform that connects the two ledges. Quickly jump across the platform before it falls to reach the other side. It's ok if you don't quite make it. There are vines you can climb to get back up. Once on the other side, open the large treasure chest to obtain the [_FAIRY SLINGSHOT_], this dungeon's key item. Assign it to the X or Y button to use it. Climb the nearby vines next to the chest to reach a higher ledge with a small treasure chest. Open it for a Recovery Heart. If the platform in the middle of the room fell, you would think there's no way back across. But there is. Get out your slingshot and aim it across the room. Look up and you'll notice a ladder near the ceiling. Shoot this ladder with your slingshot to make it fall. Now, you can climb back down the vines on this ledge and climb up the ladder on the other side to get back. If you cut the grass on the way, you'll notice that it drops a new item sometimes called [_DEKU SEEDS_]. Deku Seeds are ammo for your Slingshot. Right now your capacity is 30 seeds. Exit this room and back through the Deku Scrub room to get back to the first main room. Run along the ledge until you return to where you originally found the Dungeon Map with the vines behind it. Try and climb the vines, and you will quickly be knocked off by another new enemy, Skullwalltula. These spiders with skull-shaped bodies are relatively harmless until you climb a vine that they occupy. How do we kill them? Fairy Sligshot. Smack them once with the slingshot and they'll fall off and die. There should be a total of 3 on these vines. You'll always know when a skulltula of any type is nearby because of the distinct sound they make. Once they're dead, climb the vines to reach another ring of ledges higher up. Once at the top, you'll notice gaps in the cobweb here and there. While staying at a distance, if you notice from far away, there is a circular shadow in front of every gap. Approach the shadow and yet another new enemy will drop down from the ceiling. These guys are known as Big Skulltulas. They look just like Skullwalltulas except that they are bigger and they hang from a thread instead of climbing on walls. They are also different in the fact that they can't be harmed by your sword OR your slingshot normally. Stay at a slight distance and wait for them to turn around. This reveals their soft underbelly. Quickly strike their belly and they will turn back around. Wait for them to repeat this process and strike them once more to kill them. Always remain at a distance when it shows it's skull shell. Stand too close and it will swivel it's body causing you to take damage. It usually takes two hits to kill them, but if you stay at a distance and use a Jump Attack while their underbelly is showing, they will die in one hit. Anyway, you can avoid these guys for now. Continue along the ring until you come to another door. As soon as you enter, the door will shut behind you and bars will shut over it, blocking your exit. Before we take on this room, let's go ahead and lift those bars over the door. You'll notice a pressure button and two torches on this side of the room. One of the torches is lit while the other is unlit. I'm guessing both will need to be lit. So, how to light the other? This is where those Deku Sticks from much earlier come in handy. Get out a Deku Stick and swipe it across the lit torch. Then, take the now lit Deku Stick and swipe it across the unlit torch to ignite it. Be quick about this before the Deku Stick burns up. Once both torches are lit, the bars will raise over the door. Now that we have an exit again, let's see what this room has to offer. Remember that pressure button? Now step on it to reveal 3 platforms in the middle of the room. These platforms are timed so be quick about using them. Jump straight across to reach the ledge on the other side. Kill the Deku Baba here and open the large treasure chest. This chest contains the [_Compass_]. This will reveal the locations of the rest of the treasure chests as well as the boss location. Jump back off this ledge, kill the Deku Babas at the bottom and climb back up the vines to the first ledge. Step on the pressure button once more and this time, make your way to the platform that is to the left side of the room. While on this platform, you'll notice a third ledge in front of you. But, before you jump onto the ledge approach it slowly and a Big Skulltula will drop down in front of you. Wait for it to show it's underbelly and kill it. Now, you can jump onto the ledge. However, you must do all of this quickly before the platforms sink again. Once you are on this ledge, open the small treasure chest to get a Recovery Heart. Behind the chest on the wall is another new enemy, Gold Skulltula. These are literally harmless. The ONLY way you can get hurt by them is to bump into them. Just smack them once with your sword to kill them. However, as easy as these guys are, they are special enemies. Whenever you kill one, it will drop a [_GOLD SKULLTULA TOKEN_] in it's place. There are exactly 100 Gold Skulltulas hidden throughout Hyrule. Make it one of your goals to hunt down all of them because later in the game, you can exchange these tokens for really nice rewards. So, collect the token from this one and move on. That's everything in this room so let's head back out to the ring of ledges. Now, choose a gap in the web. It doesn't matter which. Kill the Big Skulltula that appears. Once it's dead, back up and jump off the ledge where the gap is. Link will begin falling all the way to the first floor of the first room we were ever in. Use the Circle Pad to steer Link and make sure he lands on the web-covered hole on the first floor. As soon as he makes contact with the web, he will break through it and fall some more. Eventually he will land in a pool of water at the bottom. We are now in B1F of the dungeon. Go ahead and climb onto the ledge that has the pressure button on it. Step on the button and it will ignite a torch behind you which will burn through the web surrounding it revealing a treasure chest. Open it for a Recovery Heart. Now, take out a Deku Stick and ignite it using the lit torch. You'll notice a second ledge with shallow water connecting the two. While staying in the shallow water run across to the next ledge with your lit Deku Stick. Once you are across, swipe the Deku Stick across the cobweb to burn it up. This reveals another door. Before moving on to the next room, there are 2 Gold Skulltulas in here. One is on the nearby vines. While standing on land, shoot it with your slingshot. Then, jump in the water and climb up the vines to grab the token. The second one is on the grate in the water. Shoot this one with your slingshot as well. To collect it's token, stand on the edge of one of the ledges and jump off towards the token. Once you have the tokens, go through the door you just revealed. This room contains another Deku Scrub. Like before, using your shield, reflect it's projectiles back at it. Once you hit, corner it. This Scrub offers important information. It tells you that if you want to get past it's brothers, then 23 is number 1. Hmm..... Just remember 231. Once the Deku Scrub flees, get your slingshot out and shoot the eye that is over the other door in this room. This will retract the bars over the door. Now, go through this door. This room contains another puzzle and it's a pain if you aren't quick enough. As you can probably tell, we need to get to the ledge on the other side of the room. The ledge is too high to climb onto and there are no vines or ladders to climb up. You will notice a platform on the water that goes back and forth underneath a spinning spiky log. You can't just ride the platform across or you will get smacked by the log and lose hearts. So, for now jump into the water. While you are in the water, take a look around. Navi tells you that you can dive by pressing and holding A and then you can hold L to look around. Do just that. At the bottom of the water, you'll notice another pressure button. Swim until you're hovering over it and dive straight down to press it. This is timed so you have to be quick. Upon pressing the button, the water level will lower causing the platform to lower as well. Now, quickly swim back to the first ledge, wait for the platform to come to you, and jump on. Now, you should pass right under the spiky log. Once the platform reaches the other side, jump onto the second ledge. On this ledge, approach the block on the ground and a Big Skulltula will drop down. Get rid of it and take note of the dug trail the block left behind. This shows you where it can be pushed. Now, stand on the other side of the block and push it, allowing it to follow the dug track. It should end up right in front of a higher ledge. Now, climb onto the block and then the ledge. Go through this door. In this room, you'll notice that the door to the next room is barred. There are 3 torches in here. But, only one is lit. To remove the bars, take out a Deku Stick, ignite it using the lit torch, and light the other two torches. I recommend getting rid of the Deku Babas first, however. Once all three torches are lit, the bars will disappear clearing the way to the next room. That's all in this room. Let's move on to the next room. As soon as you enter this room, a Big Skulltula will drop down in the doorway. Kill it and move on into the room. Not really much in this room at first glance. Just a Deku Baba or two around the edges of the room. It is only when you walk to the center of the room that things get interesting. When you move to the middle of the room, three red egg sacs with white spots will drop from the ceiling. Once they hit the ground, in seconds they will hatch into a new enemy. These creepy one-eyed monsters are called Gohma Larva. They are easily beaten with two sword strikes, just don't there for too long. If you give them time, the little green spike on top of their head will turn red and they will throw their whole body at you in an attempt to stab you with the spike. Take them out one at a time. Once they are gone, take a look around the room. There are two cobwebs in here that need to be burned down. Both webs block a passage to another room. So, take out another Deku Stick, ignite it using the torch and burn away both webs. One cobweb reveals a Deku Baba and a large cracked wall behind it. You will need bombs to take care of that wall and right now you have none. We will come back here later when we do have bombs. For now, just take out the Deku Baba and move on. The second cobweb reveals a small hole in the wall. Go ahead and crawl through this hole. This hole leads to the first room we ended up in when we first fell to B1F. Only this time, we are on the third ledge that was previously inaccessible. First things first, eliminate the Deku Babas on this ledge. Now, there are two things to take note of on this ledge. The web-covered hole and the block. First, push the block along the track until it falls off the ledge. This will ensure that you have a way back up. Now, jump off the ledge and get back on the first ledge that has the pressure button and the torch on it. Take out a Deku Stick and ignite it using the torch. Now, jump across the ledge to land on the block you just pushed off. From there, climb onto the third ledge. Finally, with the lit Deku Stick, run towards the web-covered hole. As you pass over the hole, execute a roll to ignite the web, thus burning it away. Now, drop down this hole to end up in B2F. You will land in another pool of water. You will notice that there are quite a few Recovery Hearts at the bottom of this pool. But, I wouldn't collect them just yet. This is the final room before the Dungeon Boss. Swim to land and you'll see three Deku Scrubs. These guys must be the last one's brothers. Remember 2-3-1. These guys are numbered from left to right. So, get your shield ready and start with the middle one. Then the right one. And finally, the left one. Once the left one is hit, chase it down and corner it. It will give you valuable information about the boss, Queen Gohma. Once it flees, it will leave behind a Recovery Heart and the bars to the final door will retract. On the other side of this door, Queen Gohma awaits. But first, head back to that pool and dive to get the Recovery Hearts. Once you are ready, go through the final door. As soon as you enter this dark room, the door will slam shut behind Link, startling him. As you walk forward, you will hear a strange, scratchy, walking sound coming from above you. Either use the camera button or get out your slingshot and look up toward the ceiling. As soon as you spot her, Queen Gohma will drop from the ceiling and land on the ground and hiss at you. You will now regain control of Link and the fight begins. BOSS: Parasitic Armored Arachnid, Queen Gohma Although Queen Gohma is quite easy, she is my favorite boss in the game. Now, like I said, this boss is very easy. The ONLY way people tend to lose to her is if they have yet to get familiar with the controls. Queen Gohma is basically a much much much larger version of her larva. She has one huge eye, two legs and a tupe-shaped abdomen in which she excretes her larva. She has an easy pattern to follow. When she is on the ground, she will chase you. Afer a couple of seconds, she will give up and climb the wall to get back onto the ceiling. While she is on the ceiling, she will drop three egg sacs onto the ground. These egg sacs will hatch into Gohma Larva and attack you. So, remember these things. She has 2 methods of attacking you: 1. While on the ground, she will chase you. If she catches up to you, she will raise her body into the air and slam down on top of you. 2. While on the ceiling, she will secrete 3 Gohma Larva to hunt you down. The main weapon to be using in this fight is your Slingshot. Her one eye is her weakspot. So, to kill her, you have to attack her eye. But, to do that, you need to stun her first. You cannot just normally hit her eye. You can only hit it with your Slingshot when it turns red. These are the times when it does turn red: 1. While she's on the ceiling, her eye will turn red while she's getting ready to drop egg sacs. 2. On the ground, her eye will turn red just before she slams into you. It's alot harder to hit her eye when it's red while slamming into you. So, I recommend hitting it while it's red on the ceiling. As soon as it turns red, smack it with a Deku Seed. She will then fall off the ceiling and hit the ground stunned. Now move in and attack her eye with your sword. After a couple of whacks, she will get back up and repeat the process. Keep doing this until she finally falls. She will disintegrate and leave behind a [_HEART CONTAINER_]. This brings your total life up to a maximum of 4 Hearts! A blue warp pad will also appear. Step into the blue light to escape from the dungeon. Whew. Congratulations, you've just cleared the first dungeon. Another cutscene will play in which the Great Deku Tree will thank you for ridding it of the parasite. The tree will then tell you of the 3 goddesses that came down and created this world. The Goddess of Power, Din. The Goddess of Wisdom, Nayru. Finally, the Goddess of Courage, Farore. When they were finished creating existence, they went back to where they came and left behind 3 Triangles which are said to hold immense power known as the Triforce. You are also shown a glimpse of an evil-looking man riding a black horse through flames. After the cutscene, The Great Deku Tree hands you the [_KOKIRI'S EMERALD_] and then proceeds to tell you that although the parasite is gone, it was doomed from the start. After this, he tells you to find the Princess of Hyrule and for Navi to travel with you. Finally, he says farewell and dies. Now, you have one of the 3 Spiritual Stones needed to unlock the Temple of Time. ============================================================================== HYRULE FIELD AND HYRULE CASTLE [HRLE] ============================================================================== Head back to Kokiri Forest and you will find that the other exit to the forest is now open which was previously blocked by one of the Kokiri. This is where we need to go next. So, when you are ready, take the other exit opposite of the Deku Tree. As soon as you leave, another cutscene will start. Here, we see Saria meeting Link on the bridge connecting Hyrule Field and Kokiri Forest. She tells you that even though you must leave the forest, she will always be your best friend. Finally, she gives you the first version of the most important item in the game, the [_FAIRY OCARINA_]! This baby is what this whole game is all about. It even has it's own button on the Touch Screen. After that, Saria bids you farewell as you leave the bridge towards Hyrule Field. <--HYRULE FIELD--> Welcome to Hyrule Field. This is basically the main map of the entire game because it connects all of the other places in the game. Why don't you test out the Ocarina real quick? Just tap the Ocarina Button on the touch screen to put the Ocarina to Link's mouth. Then, press buttons that correspond to the same button on the touch screen to blow a note OR you can just tap the notes on the touch screen. You can't do much with the Ocarina yet until you obtain some songs. But, we will get some soon enough. Now, take a few steps forward and a strange owl named Kaepora Gaebora will greet you atop a dead tree branch. He basically tells you the exact same things the Great Deku Tree told you. Finally, he will tell you that he will see you again and flies off. Now, Hyrule Field and a couple of other places will have a day/night cycle. IF it is night outside right now, turn around and run back to Kokiri Forest so that we can grab another token. Once back in Kokiri Forest, it should be night here, as well. Go back to the hill where you originally found the sword. Check behind the house here for another Gold Skulltula. Kill it for your fourth [_Gold Skulltula Token_]. Now, let's get back on track and head back to Hyrule Field. Before we begin exploring this place, there are a couple of things you need to know about Hyrule Field. First, as I stated before, it runs on a day/night cycle. I want to say Day and Night last 5 minutes each, but I can't say for sure. Now, this place may look empty and safe, but it isn't. There are 3 new enemies in Hyrule Field. During both day and night, you may wander around the field and notice a weird object sitting on the ground in the distance. It will look sort of like a huge half buried pineapple surrounded by grass. It might appear to be just a plant, but it's actually a monster. These guys are called Peahats. You can get somewhat close to these things and they won't move. But, once you get close enough, they will uproot themselves revealing 6 blades that start spinning and they will chase you down with them. To kill them, just get close to them while watching out for their blades. Using your sword, strike the single root that is located directly underneath them. It will take a good number of hits, but eventually they will fall. This, however, is only during the day. During the night, they act differently. If you approach a Peahat during the night, you'll notice that they don't do anything but sit there. Hit it, however, and it will excrete another new enemy, Peahat Larva. 3 of them. These are exactly like Peahats only much much smaller and weaker. You don't have to worry too much about Peahats, though. As, there are only 3-4 of them in Hyrule Field at one time. And as long as you stay far away from them, they won't hurt you. Maybe it's just me, but, Peahats in this game REALLY creep me out. The third new enemy, Stalchild, ONLY appears at night. These skeletons are weak. 2 hits and they are history. The only problem is, you will be fight off hordes of these monsters before daytime approaches. Sometimes, a larger version of Stalchildren will appear. Although, it's just as easy as the normal ones. Welp, that's all the new enemies here. For now. Oh, one more thing. The drawbridge to Hyrule Castle closes every night. So, you MUST make it to Hyrule Castle BEFORE night or you will be stuck outside fighting Stalchildren until morning. Ok, NOW let's start exploring. There are only two places in Hyrule Field that we can access for now. Lon Lon Ranch (which is located in the center of the field) and Hyrule Castle. We can't do much in Lon Lon Ranch quite yet so just head to Hyrule Castle. Just a little ways north of the Kokiri Forest entrance, you should find a yellow dirt path. Literally, just follow this all the way to Hyrule Castle. Make sure you reach the Castle while it's still day and cross the drawbridge. <--HYRULE CASTLE--> Hyrule Castle also contains a town in it's boundaries. So, that's where you will end up once you cross the bridge. The "town" portion of Hyrule Castle is known as The Market. So, that's what we will be calling it. As soon as you cross the drawbridge and enter town, go in the first door you come to. This is the Guardhouse. Talk to the guard and he will actually encourage you to break all of the pots in here. So, first off, roll into the crates sitting next to the guard. One of them will reveal another Gold Skulltula. Collect the [_GOLD SKULLTULA TOKEN_]. Now, proceed to break every pot in here. They should give off quite a few rupees. Later, when we start doing Minigames that cost rupees, this is the perfect place to farm them if you are running low. Anyway, that's all there is here, so go back outside. Continue down the alley until you reach the Square. There is LOTS to do here. First, find the girl in the yellow dress standing by the fountain. This is Malon. She tells you that her father runs Lon Lon Ranch and that he went to deliver milk to the castle. She's been waiting for hours, however, and wants you to go look for him. We will get to this soon enough. Now, let's check out some of the shops here. Find the building with the picture of a guy's head on it. This is the Bazaar. Everything he sells is useless for now except for the Recovery Heart, the Deku Sticks, the Deku Nuts, and the Hylian Shield. You should not need to buy any Deku Nuts/Sticks. You should still have plenty from the first dungeon. Now, the Hylian Shield WILL be useful for the second dungeon. But, I recommend that you save your rupees and don't buy it because we will find a free one later. Now, look for the shop that has a picture of a pot on it. This is the Potion Shop. You can check out the inventory, but you can't really buy anything without a bottle. We will get our first bottle shortly, so for now just exit. Next, there should be a shop that has a mask on it. This is the Happy Mask Shop. It's not open for business yet, though. So, come back later. There should be another shop called Treasure Box Shop. This shop is a minigame where you need to guess which Chest of a series of rooms contains the key to the next room. You have a 50/50 chance and if you reach the end, you will get a Heart Piece. But, you WILL burn through Rupees rather quickly here and the chance that you will get all the way to the end is extremely low. So, if you leave it alone now, we will get an item much later that will allow us to cheat our way through this game making it MUCH easier to get that Heart Piece. So, just leave for now. The next place to visit has a picture of a Bombchu on it. She is only open during the night, however. But, even if you come back here at night, she isn't open for business yet. She doubles as a shop and minigame with another Heart Piece as the ultimate reward. She sells Bombchus, but you don't have any use for them just yet. I will explain the minigame here once she is open for business. Finally, the last place to visit here has a picture of an arrow and target. This is the Shooting Gallery. You can even go ahead and play. It costs 20 Rupees to play. The object of this game is to shoot all 10 Rupee targets with you Slingshot. -If you get 8 or more, you get a free second try. -If you get less than 8, it's a game over and you have to pay again. Now, if you manage to get all 10 targets, you win and get a really nice prize. You will obtain the [_BIG DEKU SEED BULLET BAG_]. This is an upgrade to your current Deku Seed Bullet Bag. With this, your maximum 20 Deku Seed limit will raise to 40 Deku Seed limit which means now you can shoot 40 Deku Seeds with your slingshot!! That's everything at the Market for now. So, let's head to the Castle. Hyrule Castle is on the complete opposite end of the drawbridge. So, when you enter the market from the drawbridge, just go all the way around the fountain to the other side to see the castle in the distance. Let's go there now. Once you enter, you will find that you are outside the Castle gates. Take a few steps forward and you will once again run into Kaepora Gaebora. He will just tell you aboutthe flow of time in some areas. Then, fly off. Now, if you wait a couple of minutes, it will turn into night. While it's night, go back into the market. It should now be night here, too. While you are here in the Market again, there is one miniquest that we can complete here only at night. Walk around the fountain until you find a different alley between a couple of buildings. Once you are in this alley, pass the first door and enter the second. Once in here, talk to the woman. She will ask you to find her missing dog, Richard. Now, go back out to the main Square and you will notice tons of dogs running around. Problem is, every dog in Hyrule looks exactly alike except color. It would normally take you several tries to get this right, but you have me. The dog we are looking for is white. Look for a purple and black striped stall up against a building. There should be a white dog under it or near it. This is Richard. Approach him and he will follow you. Be careful not to get too close to the wrong dog or it will follow you, as well. Anyway, lead Richard back to the woman and she will give you a [_HEART PIECE_]. This should be your very first Heart Piece in the game. If you can find 4 of these, they will become a Heart Container, which adds another heart to your total life. Now that we've taken care of that, let's go back to just outside the Castle gates. Once you return, wait until it's evening or night and you should hear someone humming nearby. Walk up the trail a little and you should see some vines on the wall. Next to the vine is the girl singing, Malon. Talk to her and she will tell you that she believes her father fell asleep while delivering the milk. Then she will give you the [_WEIRD EGG_]. She says when the egg hatches into a Cucco, you can use it to wake up her father. Once you are done talking to Malon, there should be a tree nearby with four rocks surrounding it. Go ahead and roll into the tree. This will cause a Gold Skulltula to fall out. Kill it and collect the [_GOLD SKULLTULA TOKEN_]. Now, climb the vines next to Malon. Follow the ledge until you see the gates below you. Here's the thing: The guards don't allow just anyone to visit the Princess. So, you're going to have to sneak in. As you can see, the gate is shut tight. That is why he are on this ledge. The end of the ledge should lead you to on top of the gate. There is a hole here with a ladder going down. Go down the ladder and exit through the door. Now, you will find you are on the other side of the gate. Castle Guards litter the grounds out here, so be careful. If you get caught by a guard, you will taken back to the entrance and you will have to go through all of this again. Once you are on the other side of the gate, you should see a bank to your left. Climb up the bank and watch out for a guard standing in the grass near the top. Avoid his sight and weave through the rest of them. Once you get to the trees, stay between the trees and watch for the yellow dirt path which leads to the castle. Avoid the guarded bridge to the front door and go all the way to the left side of the castle. Jump into the moat in front of the left side of the castle and swim past the guards all the way to the right side of the castle. Climb out of the moat here and you will have gotten past the bridge. You should find a sleeping man here. It's none other than Malon's sleeping father. If the egg you have hasn't hatched yet, wait another day and it should hatch the next morning. Once it has hatched, set the Cucco to the X or Y button and use it in front of the sleeping man. He will quickly wake up and introduce himself as Talon. He also tells you that he owns Lon Lon Ranch and then races off to reunite with Malon. Once he's gone, another puzzle. Yay. This one is easy, though. You will see two milk crates where Talon was. Grab one of them and push it along the road until it falls into the moat. Then, grab the second crate and push it until it is on top of the first one. Now, climb the crate and jump over the moat to a small ledge with a small hole in it. Crawl through the hole to end up in the Castle Courtyard. Now, here is where it gets tricky. You will have to pass a series of 5 guard patrols without being noticed. Every patrol has a pattern that the guards walk. Pay close attention to it. The first is simple. Wait until the guard is walking toward the back of the hedges and then run by. The second one has two guards in it. Wait until both of them are toward the back of the fountains and run by. The third one is interesting. There is one guard that closely circles the central pillar of the vine garden. There are also Rupees around the central pillar. You can either risk getting caught and collect the rupees OR you can simply climb the stairs and walk across the beam and not get caught at all. The fourth one has two guards circling a giant statue. Choose a guard and trail behind it making sure the second guard is always on the opposite side of the statue. The fifth one has two guards that follow close to eachother. As soon as both of them are walking up one side of the hedge, run up the other. Now, you are in the final area of the courtyard. Talk to the girl facing the window. This is the one and only Princess Zelda of Hyrule. She tells you of a recent nightmare she's been having and that it had a boy with a green stone, a fairy in it who showed up to stop a man of evil who had gained the Triforce of Power. She then asks you to look out the window at the evil man of the desert. She introduces him as Ganondorf and that he is here on behalf of her father. She wants you to save the kingdom from destruction by first gathering the other two spiritual stones. She gives you [_ZELDA'S LETTER_] which grants you passage to anywhere in Hyrule. Finally, she tells you to talk to Impa of the Sheikah at the doorway, her personal guardian. Impa tells you that she fully understands Zelda's dream and wants you to help her in any way possible. Then, she will teach you your very first Ocarina song, Zelda's Lullaby! ********************** Zelda's Lullaby ********************** X, A, Y, X, A, Y This song is pretty much only used for major story events to unlock passage to a dungeon and such. Afterwards, Impa will safely escort you out of Hyrule Castle and back to Hyrule Field where she will tell you the location of the second dungeon. She will then vanish and you waill have control again. Next stop, Lon Lon Ranch! Copyright 2013 Christian DeMay This may not be reproduced under any circumstances except for personal, private use.
