This game rarely even seen as a video game is the portable remake of the board game. Enjoy. 2. Single Player************************************S2*********************** I- Classic **S21** In Classic mode, you play a simple game of Scrabble. You play words, attempting to gain the most points. Playing through this mode gains you some skill points depending on how many points you make and how difficult the match is. You can play Solo, or with up to three AI players. At the main screen, tap "Single Player", then "New Game", then "Classic." Turn computers on or off, select their level, and switch their avatar if you wish. Tap the checkmark. You then can select a point limit (when a person reaches a certain point number, he/she wins), a time limit for each turn, and turn Hints, Dictionary, Challenging, and Recycle Blanks (if a blank matches a letter in your rack, you can replace the blank with your letter and keep the blank). Once you have made all choices, tap the checkmark. See section 8 for a more in-depth explanation of how to play. You can also choose "Quick Game" from the New/Load Game menu. this starts a game with one opponent of your level with Hints, Dictionary, and Recycle Blanks activated. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Slam **S22** In Slam, you attempt to make four-letter words. Like Upwords, you stack cards on top of each other to make four letter words. The first one to have no more cards in their hand wins. At the main screen, tap "Single Player", then "New Game", then "Slam." Turn computers on or off, select their level, and switch their avatar if you wish. Tap the checkmark. The Slam game will then begin. See section eight for a more in-depth explanation of how to play. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III- Speed **S23** In Speed, you play a normal game of Scrabble, except you have to make all of your moves in a certain amount of time. At the main screen, tap "Single Player", then "New Game", then "Speed." Turn computers on or off, select their level, and switch their avatar if you wish. Tap the checkmark. Select how long you have to make all of your moves, and whether Hints, Dictionary, Challenging, and Recycle Blanks should be active. Check section eight for a more in-depth explanation of how to play. 3. Mulitplayer************************************S3************************* I- Hot Seat **S31** This is a new multiplayer option entirely unique to this game. Here, you play with up to four people, but you do not use Wi-Fi. No, you just pass the game around! At the main screen, tap "Multiplayer", then "Hot Seat." Select the avatars and the names (if saved) of those playing. Then select whether a point/time limit is on, and if Hints, Dictionary, and Recycle Blanks should be active. Then a regular game of Scrabble starts. Since it is a regular game (Classic), still check section eight for a more in-depth explanation of how to play. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Multi-Card Play **S32** This multiplayer option uses Wi-Fi between 2-4 DS's to play any of all modes of Scrabble with no limitations. You can play Classic, Slam, or Speed with no limitations. At the main screen, tap "Multiplayer", then "Multi-Card Play." At this menu, select to join a game, or tap the checkmark in the lower right. Whichever happens, the creator (I think) chooses what to do. This has all modes, so see section eight for more in-depth explanations on all game modes. For this, you need two or more DS's, and one Scrabble game for each one of them. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III- DS Download Play **S33** This multiplayer option uses Wi-Fi between 2-4 DS's to play any of all modes of Scrabble with some limitations. You can play Classic, Slam, or Speed, but the Hints/Dictionary options cannot be activated. At the main screen, tap "Multiplayer", then "DS Download Play." At this point, all of those playing should be accessing DS Download Play on the DS main screen. Select "Start Download" when all of those playing appear on the screen. The name is the name of the one selected on their DS. Then wait. You can later play all game modes, but you are somewhat limited. For this, you need two or more DS's, and one Scrabble game. 4. Training************************************S4**************************** I- Vocabulary **S41** In this mode, you increase your vocabulary by making words of a certain group and filling in the blanks. This mode can teach you words you have never even heard of, like "xi" and "inia." At the main screen, tap "Training" then "Vocabulary." This mode comes in two stages: making words, then making two letter words. For the first stage, you have one minute and thirty seconds. You get a definition for the word, and a letter in it. Then, if you fully fill the list of the other screen, you may get 50 bonus points. The next stage makes you make two-letter words. You still have one minute and thirty seconds. One you 35 words or time runs out, you may gain fifty bonus points and then be told your average Vocabulary score. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Pattern Recognition **S42** In this mode, you attempt to make as many words as possible out of just a few letters. You can then see all of the possible moves, instead of just the weak few. At the main screen, tap "Training", then "Pattern Recognition." This mode also comes in two stages: making words with ALL of your tiles, then making all of the possible words of a set tile rack. Both stages last one minute. At the end, you are told your average Pattern Recognition score. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III- Score Strategy **S43** In this move, you attempt to make the best possible move. This teaches you to not always go directly for the triple word, as you might have a move that goes over two double words, 1.3x the triple word score! At the main screen, tap "Training", then "Score Strategy." Obviously, this mode comes in two stages. The first stage makes you make a move across just a row of spaces with bonuses and no tiles on them. The second stage makes you play on a board with some tiles on it. The first stage lasts one minute. The second stage one minute, too. At the end, you are told your average Score Strategy score. 5. Tools************************************S5******************************* I- Dictionary **S51** At the main screen, tap "Tools", then "Dictionary." You can then use this like any normal dictionary. You type in a word, and if it exists, you get a part of speech, plural form(s), and the definition(s). This option is also available in normal Classic/Speed games in Single Player, Hot Seat, or Multi-Card Play. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Scrabble Tips **S52** At the main screen, tap "Tools", then "Scrabble Tips." This gives you some advice on playing the game, such as parallel words and how to rearrange your tile rack to see better moves. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III- Word Finder **S53** At the main screen, tap "Tools", then "Word Finder." By placing some tiles in the rack and on the board, you see the top ten best moves that can be made if it is your turn and you are in this situation. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IV- Important Words **S54** At the main screen, tap "Tools", then "Important Words." This shows some very useful words, such the Q-without-U (qi, qaid, etc.) and short X words (xi, xu, axe, exy, poxy, etc.) Knowing these words can REALLY boost your score in any Scrabble game. 6. Skill Tracker************************************S6*********************** I- Rank **S61** At the main screen, tap "Skill Tracker", then "Rank." ________________ | | LEVEL 6 |________________| | | LEVEL 5 |________________| | | LEVEL 4 |________________| | | LEVEL 3 |________________| | | LEVEL 2 |________________| | | LEVEL 1 |________________| This graph appears. As you gain Skill Points, you fill this up. As you increase in level, you unlock more stuff. This also affects whom you play when you play "Quick Game", because they will be the same level as you. This graph also appears when you start up a profile. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Graph **S62** At the main screen, tap "Skill Tracker", then "Graph." Vocabulary ___________________________________________________________________________ | | | |______________________________________|____________________________________| Pattern Recognition ___________________________________________________________________________ | | | |______________________________________|____________________________________| Score Strategy ___________________________________________________________________________ | | | |______________________________________|____________________________________| This graph appears, with averages on the top screen. The farther to the right on this, the better you are in that area. The farther to the left, the worse you are in that area. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III- Stats **S63** At the main screen, tap "Skill Tracker", then "Stats." Wins x Losses x Games played x Best score x Average game score x Best scoring word x Average word score x Longest word length x Hours playing x Quickest victory x:xx.xx Longest game x:xx.xx Words played x This list will appear. As you do something, numbers increase/decrease. This is simply listing what you have done. 7. Options************************************S7***************************** I- Profiles **S71** At the main screen, tap "Options", then "Profiles." This allows you to switch who you are playing as, make/delete profiles, and change some settings (avatar, name, etc.). You use this to switch to an unlocked avatar. There are four already unlocked: the cat, dog, owl, and dinosaur. There are also six unlockables: the lion, beaver, frog, badger, rabbit, and squirrel. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II- Unlockables **S72** At the main screen, tap "Options", then "Unlockables." Here, you can view the Level 6 form of unlocked secret avatars and view/apply a Theme. 8. Basic Rules************************************S8************************* Classic: The game generates a tile for each person/AI playing. The closest to A wins. A blank beats all. The winner goes first, and play advances in the order of P1 -> P2 -> P3 -> P4 -> P1. That first player then plays at least two tiles to make a word. The word is then scored (see section 10). The next player then plays at least one tile to make another word. No diagonal words can be made. If he plays tiles parallel to another word, ALL have to be correct words. The word(s) are then scored and the next player plays. If Challenge is active, any tiles can be played in any order. If they do not make a word, the play can be challenged. If the challenge is successful, the challenged remove their tiles and lose that turn. If unsuccessful, the challenger loses their current turn. This option is canceled if Hints or Dictionary are enabled. Once one player doesn't have any tiles, the game ends, some scoring is done, and the person with the highest score wins. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Slam: You and the others playing are given 26 two-sided cards with a letter on each side. Four cards appear at the top. You and the others compete to create four- letter words. Once a person has no more cards, he wins, as he will have 260 points, the most that is gotten in this mode. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Speed: Other than having to make ALL of your moves in a certain amount of time, it is the same. The game generates a tile for each person/AI playing. Once time runs out for someone, I think they lose some points. 9. Playing Scrabble************************************S9******************** Upon your turn, you have seven tiles. There [may] be some tiles on the board. You have to make words by lining your tiles up horizontally/vertically with those on the board. You only play one group of tiles on the board at once, in only one direction. The board looks like this: ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 3W | | | 2L | | | | 3W | | | | 2L | | | 3W | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2W | | | | 3L | | | | 2L | | | | 2W | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2W | | | | 2L | | 2L | | | | 2W | | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2L | | | 2W | | | | 2L | | | | 2W | | | 2L | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2W | | | | | | 2W | | | | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2L | | | | 2L | | 2L | | | | 2L | | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | * | | | | | | | | | 3W | | | 2L | | | | 2W | | | | 2L | | | 3W | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2L | | | | 2L | | 2L | | | | 2L | | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2W | | | | | | 2W | | | | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2L | | | 2W | | | | 2L | | | | 2W | | | 2L | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2W | | | | 2L | | 2L | | | | 2W | | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 2W | | | | 3L | | | | 3L | | | | 2W | | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 3W | | | 2L | | | | 3W | | | | 2L | | | 3W | |____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____|____| * -> Starred space 2L -> Double letter value space 3L -> Triple letter value space 2W -> Double word score space 3W -> Triple word score space The starred space is where one tile must be laid on the very first turn. You must make words by laying your tiles adjacent to other placed tiles. Once you make a word, it is properly scored. You gain those points, and the next person gets their turn. Below the board may be these icons (excuse the horrible ASCII): ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ / \ / \ / _ \ / \ / []\ / \ / \ / o \ / \ | x | | x? | | [_] | | A A | | [][]| | |> | | | |>| | oo | | ! | \___/ \___/ \___/ \___/ \___/ \___/ \___/ \___/ \___/ The first indicates the number of tiles left in the bag. Tap to exchange tiles. The second indicates how many hints you have left. Tap to use one. The third is the dictionary. Tap to use it. The fourth is the two-letter words. Tap to show two-letter words on the left. The fifth shuffles the tiles, when tapped. The sixth will let you confirm your move. The seventh will let you confirm that you wish to pass. The eight indicates that it is not your turn. The ninth allows you to challenge the move played last, if it is your turn. Tapping these icons activates their function. Some are/aren't active depending on which options are activated. 10. Score Calaculation************************************S10**************** Step #1: Add base value of tiles (below). _________________________________ / Letter | # of points (no bonus) \ |---------|-------------------------| | Blank | 0 | |---------|-------------------------| | A | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | B | 3 | |---------|-------------------------| | C | 3 | |---------|-------------------------| | D | 2 | |---------|-------------------------| | E | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | F | 4 | |---------|-------------------------| | G | 2 | |---------|-------------------------| | H | 4 | |---------|-------------------------| | I | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | J | 8 | |---------|-------------------------| | K | 5 | |---------|-------------------------| | L | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | M | 3 | |---------|-------------------------| | N | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | O | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | P | 3 | |---------|-------------------------| | Q | 10 | |---------|-------------------------| | R | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | S | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | T | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | U | 1 | |---------|-------------------------| | V | 4 | |---------|-------------------------| | W | 4 | |---------|-------------------------| | X | 8 | |---------|-------------------------| | Y | 4 | |---------|-------------------------| | Z | 10 | \________|________________________/ Step #2: Add any letter bonuses, if any. Step #3: Add any word bonuses, if any. Step #4: If BINGO (all seven tiles played), add fifty points. At game's end: The player with no tiles adds his score to the total value of the other players' remaining tiles. Those with tiles subtract their tiles' value from their score. 11. Frog - Level up to Level 4. Badger - About halfway through Level 4...? Rabbit - Level up to Level 5. Squirrel - Level up to Level 6. 12. Quick Skill Pts., Better Stats*************************S12*************** For this, you will need two DS's and at least one Scrabble game card. Get on one of the wireless multiplayer modes. Play a Classic game. Turn "Challenging" on. Whichever profile that needs better averages should be the only one doing moves. Have that player play any jumbled up set of letters with his seven tiles. Have the other player pass, NOTHING ELSE, EVERY TIME. Keep the player needing improvement playing random sets of seven tiles. Have the other player do nothing but pass. By the end, the player needing improvement will probably have gained anywhere from 1,000 to 3,500 Skill Points, REALLY upped his Training average, and his stats will see an instant improvement. 13.
