The boss will yell "Take this!" while pulling his head back. He will then begin to follow you, side to side, across the arena. Eventually he will stop and slam his face into the floor in an attempt to squish you. This can be dodged in three ways: A) Run back and forth until he finally slams his head into the ground. Switch directions suddenly if you're having difficulties shaking him. Be careful that you don't accidentally run under him while he's slamming his head! B) Stand still. Wait until his head starts coming back down and then quickly run out of the way. C) Start charging a Spin/Burst Dash and release it as soon as his head begins to come back down. Methods A and B are the best to use as they will make it easier to land hits on the boss, especially when his health is low. Method C is perfect for emergencies. 2. ** THIS ATTACK IS A 1-HIT KO! ** The boss will scream "Get ready to be schooled!" while dramatically shaking and pulling back his head. Eventually he will slam his face into the floor in an attempt to crush you. To dodge, simply stand still and wait until you can no longer see his head, then run out of the way. He will not make any attempt to follow you unless you run away while his head is still visible. 3. The boss will move to the side of the arena, lean down and place his head onto the ground. The camera will turn and the head will begin to spin, then roll at you. As his health gets lower the head will roll at you 2 or 3 times in a row before he picks it back up. To dodge, run at the head and hold UP on the D-Pad as you jump over it. Make sure that you jump a little before you reach the head, otherwise it'll catch you and send you flying off the edge. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: Simply wait for him to use one of his head-smashing attacks, then dodge it and quickly jump on top of his head. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // WATER PALACE [A02] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. The boss will chase you around the arena. Eventually he will rise up, yell "Take this!", and then attempt to belly flop on top of you. To dodge, simply run away until you hear him yell "Take this!" then immediately turn around and Spin/Burst Dash underneath him. 2. The boss will swim to the center of the arena. Eventually he will pull his head back and then smash it into the floor. Dodging is simple, merely keep running away and he won't be able to keep up. It should be noted that you can safely stop running when you see him open his mouth. This will come in handy for scoring hits. 3. The water will drain from the arena, leaving the boss beached and unable to move. His mouth will open and his head will start to move towards you. To dodge, turn AWAY from his head and start charging a Spin/Burst Dash. Watch his head very carefully, it will stop moving for a second right before he attacks you. Release the dash as soon as you see his head stop moving. Also, be careful not to dash into his propeller, it will hurt you! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: Wait for the boss to use his head-slamming attack, then dodge it and quickly jump on top of his head. You can also hit the boss when he drains the water from the arena. Simply dodge his snapping attack, then jump on his head while it is retracting. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // MIRAGE ROAD [A03] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. The boss will stop and let go of the ball, shoving it towards you. To dodge, simply jump over it. 2. The boss will fly into the middle of the arena and throw explosives at you. To dodge, just keep running around the arena until he lands again. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Back HOW TO HIT: Run away from the boss until he stops and shoves the spiked ball at you. Continue to run away until the spikes disappear, then turn around and hit the ball with a jump. This will send it rolling back at the boss. If his health is low, he will jump over the ball. Just wait for the spikes to disappear then jump into the ball again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // NIGHT CARNIVAL [A04] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. Three bursts of electricity will shoot down from the ball opposite of Eggman/Nega. This move is extremely unpredictable so I have been unable to come up with a definite method for dodging this. The best advice I can give to you is to either attempt to outrun it or to Spin/Burst Dash away. Stop running immediately if he shoots a bolt directly behind you, otherwise you may run into the next one! 2. Sometimes the electric ball that the boss totes around will lower to ground level and begin to chase you about. You can dodge this in two ways: A) Simply run away from the ball. B) Hit the deck! Just keep crouching until the ball returns to its normal height. (Thank you to Scott for this tip!) 3. The boss will stop revolving and yell "Get ready to be schooled!". He'll then tilt and slam the ball into the floor. The impact of the ball will create two blue shockwaves which will travel around the arena and vanish when they reach the opposite side. To dodge, simply stand still and jump over any shockwave that comes near. 4. When you hit the electric ball, Eggman/Nega's pod will lower and drop a small toy car onto the floor. This toy car is hardly a threat as all it can do is attempt to run into you. To dodge, simply jump over or onto it. Be careful, however, as jumping on the car will launch you into the air, possibly into the electrically shielded ball. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Eggman/Nega's Pod HOW TO HIT: Wait until the spiked ball opposite of Eggman/Nega lowers its electric shield. Once it does, hit it with a jump. This will lower Eggman/Nega's pod, so you can quickly run over and jump into him. You can also hit Eggman/Nega using the little toy car to launch yourself into the pod. When he's spinning quickly, simply jump onto the car and hold Left on the D-pad. He should come around in time for you to score a hit. When Eggman/Nega's health is down to 2 or less he'll begin to revolve extremely fast, so be careful! Also, NEVER jump at the spiked ball if you see it flashing red, this means that it is about to raise its electric shield! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // HUGE CRISIS [A05] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. The boss will yell "Take this!" while pulling his head back. He will then begin to follow you, side to side, across the arena. Eventually he will stop and slam his face into the floor in an attempt to squish you. Be aware that sometimes he will rapidly slam his head down three times instead of just once, so make sure he's done before you attack him! This attack can be dodged in three ways: A) Run back and forth until he finally slams his head into the ground. Switch directions suddenly if you're having difficulties shaking him. Be careful that you don't accidentally run under him while he's slamming his head. To dodge, use one of the following methods: A) Run back and forth until he finally slams his head into the ground. Switch directions suddenly if you're having difficulties shaking him. Be careful that you don't accidentally run under him while he's slamming his head. (Thank you to eviled25 for notifying me of this attack.) 3. Sometimes the boss will spin around, then duck under the platform and reappear in the background. Here he will set his head down and begin to launch missiles at you. To dodge, simply stand around and run away whenever a missile is coming towards you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: Simply wait for him to use one of his head-smashing attacks, then dodge it and quickly jump on top of his head. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // ALTITUDE LIMIT [A06] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. The boss will follow you side to side while shooting his machine guns. This attack can be very difficult to dodge, so don't get discouraged if he happens to peg you often. Since the boss is an airplane, he must tilt in order to change directions. Carefully watch him as he tilts and strafes. In order to dodge, you'll need to wait until he's tilted as far as he'll go and then quickly run through the gunfire. Keep this up until the gunfire ceases. 2. The boss will swoop forward, perch on the platform and then slam his beak into the ground. To dodge, simply stand still and jump to the side just before he lands. If you don't jump, then you'll be stunned and left wide open for his attack! 3. ** THIS ATTACK HAS A CHANCE TO 1-HIT KO! ** The boss will spin around, then fly upwards and out of view. He'll then land in one of the corners. Avoid hanging out in the corner, as he'll instantly kill you if he lands on you. The boss will then jump straight up, yell "Take this!" and attempt to land on you. To dodge, either run under or away from him, depending on how much space you have. Be careful if you run away from him as he'll also peck the ground when he lands. Also, he will not instantly kill you if he lands on you during this phase of the attack. 4. ** THIS ATTACK HAS A CHANCE TO 1-HIT KO! ** The boss will spin around, then fly upwards and out of view. He'll then land in one of the corners. Again, try to stay out of the corners as he'll instantly kill you if he lands on you. The boss will point his propellers forwards and generate an incredibly strong wind. To avoid being blown off, hold Up on the D-pad and simultaneously mash A button and B button. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: You'll only be able to damage the boss while he's using one of the following attacks: A) The boss will swoop forward, perch on the platform and then peck the ground. Simply wait and jump out of the way just before he lands, then jump onto his head. B) When the boss is jumping around on the platform he'll peck the ground everytime he lands. Simply wait for him to jump, then run to the side with his head, then turn around and jump into his head while he's pecking. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // DEAD LINE [A07] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // SONIC'S ATTACKS [ ] 1. Spin Dash. Sonic will curl into a ball with a cloud of dust shooting up behind him, then he quickly rolls across the screen. To dodge, simply jump over him. 2. Sonic will hover in the air for a moment, then suddenly fly towards you. Simply jump over him when he gets close. 3. Sonic will jump, then begin to spin rapidly in the air forming a vortex. This thing will suck you in pretty quick if you don't make a run for it! Run as quickly as you can to the corner farthest away from Sonic, and don't stop running until the vortex subsides. Sonic can use this attack multiple times in a row, so just keep dodging until he stops. Keep an eye on him however, sometimes he'll come flying at you instead of forming more vortexes, so make sure you're ready to jump! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // BLAZE'S ATTACKS [ ] 1. Burst Dash. Blaze will stop and hover slightly with flames shooting up from her heels, then she will quickly dash across the screen. To dodge, simply jump over her. 2. Blaze will jump into the air and hover for a moment with flames behind her. She will then burst fowards in a diagonal line to the ground. Simply jump over her when she gets close. 3. Blaze will jump up and hover, her arms outstretched. A ring of fire will begin to form at your feet which will eventually rise up into a huge column of fire. To avoid this, merely stand still and move over a couple of steps whenever a ring forms beneath you. Keep an eye on Blaze however, as sometimes she will come flying at you instead of summoning more columns, so make sure you're ready to jump! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Entire Body HOW TO HIT: Jump into Sonic/Blaze to damage them. However, it's not quite so simple. Attempting to hit them while they're jumping or using an attack will cause you to merely bounce off. You'll just have to follow them around and attempt to sneak in a hit whenever they stand still for a second. After they finish dashing or when they land also tend to be good opportunities for scoring hits. A small cutscene will trigger when Sonic/Blaze's health reaches 1. Get ready, because once that cutscene ends you'll need to simultaneously mash A button and B button like there's no tomorrow. Keep mashing until someone is shoved off the platform. This part can take a really long time, and if you're the one who goes flying then you'll have to start the entire battle all over again. Good luck! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // UNKNOWN [A08] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. The boss will reach up with both arms and then alternate slamming them into the ground, as if he's throwing a temper tantrum. Whenever his hand strikes the floor 2 shockwaves will appear, one on either side. These will move outwards from his hand. To dodge, run around until he slams a hand down, then jump back towards his hand to avoid the shockwave. Be careful however, as his health gets lower he'll begin to slam his hands down rapidly, thus creating a literal SEA of shockwaves. 2. **THIS ATTACK IS A 1-HIT KO!** The boss will raise both arms behind his head while leaning backwards and, after a moment, SLAM them down onto the platform. After impact, he'll stick his elbows out onto the platform, so be sure to avoid them. This attack also creates shockwaves, just as the attack before did. You can easily tell he is about to use this attack as he will shout "Get ready to be schooled!" Once he winds back, run into a corner, then turn around and start charging a Spin/Burst Dash. Wait for a moment, then release the dash. If you've timed it properly, he won't be able to catch up and end up just hitting the floor harmlessly behind you. After that, just jump over the shockwave. 3. The boss will cross his arms, then open his mouth. A red laser will appear and sweep across the field multiple times while leaving a trail of explosions in its wake. The laser itself can't hurt you, so don't worry about jumping through it. The explosions, on the other hand, are quite painful. The best way to dodge this attack is while running. Take a nice, long running start at the explosions, then jump over them and get ready to immediately jump over the next set. Be sure to grab any fallen rings as soon as possible. 4. Typically, the boss does not use this attack until his health is down to approximately 3. He will clap his hands, then hold them outstretched. A small, unusual looking pod will then launch from his back and hover just above your head. Two bolts of electricity then form and trap you inside. One of the bolts will then begin to move towards the other. To survive, you'll need to stay in the middle of the bolts as they sweep across the arena. If you get hit, immediately grab a few of your fallen rings and then run back into the center of the bolts while you're still blinking. The pod WILL follow you, so if you do not reposition yourself inside of it, then it WILL hit you again. Sometimes he will launch multiple pods. Don't panic, you are able to walk through the bolts as long as they're transparent. As long as you stay away from the solid bolts, you'll be fine. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: First, we must "encourage" the boss to move over to the right side of the platform. This can be done in three ways: A) While he's using his "tantrum" attack. Either jump into his hand right as it strikes the platform, or wait for him to finish attacking as he will leave his hand on the platform momentarily, allowing for an easy hit. B) After missing with his 1-hit KO attack, the boss will rest his hands on the platform. Hit them and he will move to the right. C) Successfully dodge all of the explosions when he uses his laser attack. Once he moves to the right, he'll begin to ram his fist into the side of the platform, creating even more shockwaves. At first, they will all be extremely slow and roughly the same distance apart. Merely wait for them to come to you and then jump over them. However, when his health reaches approximately 5, the shockwave pattern will start to become very fast and uneven. For instance, one shockwave will suddenly be very slow, but the next one will be extremely fast. To dodge, wait until the faster shockwave appears and then jump over them both at the same time. When he's finished creating shockwaves, he'll briefly leave his hand near the edge of the platform. Quickly run over and hit his hand, then jump onto his arm and begin running up it. Eventually his arm will begin to vibrate and a "push down" symbol will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen. He's going to try and shake you off, so stop and hold Down on the D-pad until the symbol disappears, otherwise you'll be thrown back onto the platform! Bombs will begin to roll down his arm once his health reaches 5. These are easily dodged, simply jump on and over them. The bombs will stop spawning when he's about to shake his arm, so try and get over the last one as fast as possible. If you can't, then you're left with two options: A) Find somewhere to hide. Just beneath the spiked ball on his shoulder tends to be a good spot. B) Hold Down on the D-pad and hope he shakes his arm before it reaches you, as this will cause all remaining bombs to explode. Keep in mind that he will only shake his arm 3 times, with the third shake always knocking you off. So, even if you're knocked off on the first shake, you should still be able to hit him if you're quick. Once you've reached the top of his arm, simply jump onto his head to damage him. When you successfully hit him, the boss will scream "OW!" and throw you back onto the platform. Repeat this until his health reaches 1, at which point a cutscene will trigger. The boss will fly towards the background and then ram into the platform a few times. He can't harm you, so simply stand around and wait until he stops. Once he does, just keep jumping at his head until you land the killing blow. _ _ ---/ /-/ /------------------------------------------------------------------. / / / / EXTRA ZONE: EXCEPTION [B00] \ -/_/-/_/---------------------------------------------------------------------` To unlock the Extra Zone, simply complete the following checklist in any order. __ Complete Sonic's story __ Complete Blaze's story __ Collect all 7 Chaos Emeralds Once the checklist is complete, head to the Character Select screen and scroll until you find Sonic and Blaze standing together over the word "EXTRA". In order to switch between them you'll need to hit the boss a specific number of times, as detailed below. Here is a quick run-through of the entire battle: ,-----------+-----------+---------------+--------------------------------. | SECTION # | CHARACTER | HITS REQUIRED | NOTES | +-----------+-----------+---------------+---------------------------------+ | 1 | Sonic | 3 | Start in meteor field.* | +-----------+-----------+---------------+---------------------------------+ | 2 | Blaze | 3 | Start in meteor field.* | +-----------+-----------+---------------+---------------------------------+ | 3 | Sonic | 2 | | +-----------+-----------+---------------+---------------------------------+ | 4 | Blaze | 2 | Music speeds up. | +-----------+-----------+---------------+---------------------------------+ | 5 | Sonic | 4 | Final section. | `----------+-----------+---------------+--------------------------------` *NOTE: The red meteors contain rings. This is an easy way to stock up on rings early! The absolute, MOST important thing to know about this battle is that your rings are actually a timer. You will start with 50 rings and you will lose them at a rate of 1 ring per second. Once you reach 0 rings, you die. Therefore, keeping your supply up is paramount. On that note, you'll spin backwards for a moment whenever you're hit. During this time you cannot collect any rings, so it is very important that you avoid as many attacks as possible. Also, please keep in mind that Sonic and Blaze share rings. This means if you finish one of Sonic's sections with, say, 10 rings then Blaze will start her section with only 10 rings and vice versa. However, it should also be noted that Sonic and Blaze do not share lives. So for example, you've collected 7 lives for Sonic and only 2 lives for Blaze during the course of their respective story modes. This means that, when you go to the Extra Zone, Super Sonic will have 7 retries while poor Blaze will only have 2 retries. If you're low on lives for either characters then you may want to go back and stock up. Finally, the battle will autosave whenever you reach one of Sonic's sections. Luckily this means you won't have to do the entire battle over again if you die. However, the same cannot be said about Game Overs, which will require you to redo the entire battle from the beginning. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // SONIC'S SECTION [B03] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. Eggman can only use this move while you're inside the meteor field. On top of dodging meteors and attempting to collect rings, you'll also have to avoid a screen-long laser beam. Luckily, the laser itself is very simple; it always shoots in a straight, horizontal line, is immobile, and always fires directly at you. Dodging is simple, just wait until you hear a "bwee" sound and then dash either up or down. 2. The boss will raise his right (farthest) arm and shoot 2 blue, cross-like objects at you. These little pests will circle about you in a clockwise direction and will only stop when they are about to shoot lasers from each of their "arms". Eventually they'll begin to blink red and then explode shortly after. I haven't been able to devise a definite way to dodge these, however you won't lose any rings if they hurt you, so it's not a huge issue. Just try and hit Eggman with them as quickly as possible. 3. The boss will raise his left (closest) arm and fire 3 green orbs at you. At first the orbs will appear to fly across the screen horizontally, however as soon as they are directly above or below you, they will suddenly turn and fly straight at you. To dodge, just keep moving and dash away if one comes near. Dashing into one will deflect it. 4. The boss will lean back slightly, then slash at you with his left (closest) arm. A moment later, a laser will extend from his right (fartest) arm and he will slash at you again. The first slash is pretty difficult to see coming, however if you do spot it then you should immediately dash to the bottom left corner. The second slash is much more predictable, just stay in the corner and you should be fine. (Thank you to Link Eiyu for this tip!) 5. ** THIS ATTACK WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE RINGS! ** Eggman will fly into the background and shoot an insane number of missles towards to foreground. To dodge, wait for the missiles to get close then continuously dash away from them. Avoid the explosions like the plague. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: Damaging Eggman pretty much amounts to a game of Pong; you wait for him to shoot a projectile at you, then you bounce it back at him by hitting it with a dash. Simple, no? Not entirely, no. First off, you have to hit him in the head, so aiming can be an issue. Then you've got the fact that you're on a pretty short timer, so speed is important. Add that all together and you've got the potential for an extremely annoying battle. That said, you can hit him with the following two attacks: A) The blue cross-like projectile. These circle around you in a predictable clockwise path, making them easier to peg Eggman with. To hit him, simply line yourself up with his head, wait for the "cross" to circle in front of you, and then dash into it. Make sure you wait for them to stop blinking! B) The green orbs. Wait until he raises his left (closest) arm, then fly up close to the gun (but not too close!) and dash into the orbs as he fires them. Being close to the gun will eliminate the need to aim, making it much easier to hit him. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------. // BLAZE'S SECTION [B04] ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------` ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // ATTACKS [ ] 1. Eggman Nega can only use this move while you're inside the meteor field. On top of dodging meteors and attempting to collect rings, you'll also have to avoid a screen-long laser beam. Luckily this attack is identical to Eggman's, so dodging is exactly the same, however, I find that Nega tends to fire much faster than Eggman. Simply wait for the "bwee" sound, then dash either up or down to avoid it. 2. The boss' head will stop blinking, he'll then draw his arm back and slash at you with his left (closest) claw, then his right one. As he's attacking, he'll slowly move across the screen. To dodge, simply hide in one of the corners until he stops. 3. ** THIS ATTACK WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE RINGS! ** The boss will emit a "beep beep!" sound, then hold out his arms. Shortly after, his arms will rocket towards you and grab you, he'll then reel you in and slap you senseless. To dodge, wait until you hear the audio cue, then start dashing up and down like crazy. 4. ** THIS ATTACK WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE RINGS! ** The boss will make a deep "duuue" sound, then fly across the screen and into the background. He'll wind up, then slash and create a massive black hole in the center of the screen. To cancel this attack, simply hit Nega with a fireball before he finishes crossing the screen. Otherwise, immediately dash into the top or bottom edge of the screen, whichever is closer, and DO NOT stop spamming dash until the attack subsides. Stay out of the black hole at all costs! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- // STRATEGY [ ] WEAK POINT: Head HOW TO HIT: Simply charge up a fireball and launch it into his head while it's flashing. The only real complications to expect are his attacks interrupting you and the boss moving around. If you're having issues hitting him, then just wait for him to use his grab attack, dodge, then punish him with a fireball while he's retracting his hands. _ _ ---/ /-/ /------------------------------------------------------------------. / / / / CREDITS [THX] \ -/_/-/_/---------------------------------------------------------------------` I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all of the following: GameFAQs - For hosting my FAQ and providing me with the foundation for my legal section below.
