It uses all the same rules as the NFL, and those rules can be found almost anywhere on the internet. This game isn't a very highly acclaimed game for the Gameboy Advance, but it is one of my favorites. This game was one of the first sports games in general for the GBA, and it is pretty good. This is the first generation of what I hope will be many games in the series on a handheld platform. *********************************************************************** * FAQ * *********************************************************************** Q: How do I tackle another player? A: Press L while you are on defense (you get used to it). Q: How do I pass the ball? A: After pressing A to hike the ball, press A to see the list of recievers. Just press a corresponding button to pass to the reciever. Q: Are there any unlockable things in this game? A: Nope, sorry. Q: Are there any easter eggs for this game? A: Not really, but after you score a touchdown, pressing A, B, L, and R produce sounds. B is a horn, A is a whisle, and L and R are "body sounds". Q: What are the highest ranked teams? A: The Buccaneers, All-Madden Team, Raiders, Ravens, Packers, and the Titans. Q: I can't run the ball? How do I run it well? A: Utilize the B (spin) and R (jump) buttons. Running towards the sideline or with good blocking is helpful in gaining good yardage on the ground. Q: What are your "favorite" plays? A: On offense, it's I-form : HB Strong. I can usually net 20+ yard gains, on the ground! On defense, I love the 3-4 7 man blitzes, as I can frequently block passes and pound them if they decide to run the ball! Q: I just pressed the audible button on accident! How do I "unaudible"? A: Try the L button. The other buttons will change the play. (You could always go into the menu and change an audible to your play and then select it, but that's the slow and tedious way of doing it.) Q: How do I do an onside kick? A: Press B to audible, then press B or A depending on which side you plan to kick it on. Q: I'm lazy, is there anyway I can beat a team without playing a whole game? A: Yes, but it's cheap. If you ever get ahead of a team in points, going to the options menu and selecting "End Game" at the bottom will immediately end the game at the current score. Q: Why are the Houston Texans so horrid in this game? A: Because in real life they are. Just kidding Texan fans, it's because the players EA put into the game are generic (i.e. No. 34... etc...), because the Texan's roster was far from finalized when this game was made. Q: Help! I can't find franchise mode! Where is it? A: Sorry again, Madden 2002 doesn't have a franchise mode. *********************************************************************** * Menu Options * *********************************************************************** General Menu Commands: B- Back A- Select/Continue Start- Continue ---------------------- Game mode Explanations ---------------------- Play Now- Play a game with two teams in any stadium and with multiple other options. Be warned, bombs can burn this defense. 3-4: Very good defense for blitzing, allowing for 7 man blitzes! Okay at run and pass defense. Nickel: Best for pass defense in it's normal form. Mediocre run defense. Dime: All around average and good defense. Prevent 1 and Prevent 2 is useful to prevent a score or big gain. Goaline: All run defense, very poor pass defense. Use only if you are sure they will run (1-4 yard line), or if you really want to sack them (for a safety for instance) Special: FG and punt defensive plays ------- Offense ------- I-form: The premier running offense. The two backs in the backfield set up a situation with one runner and one dedicated blocker. Notable plays: HB Strong, HB Toss, Power Weak, Belly Weak/Stong Proform: A good all-around offense. Has the best long pass play and a few good running plays. Notable plays: Quick Outs, All Streaks Far + Near: Both of these types are generally used for running plays, though they do have some good screen passes and other short passes. Far - Notable plays: HB off tackle, HB/FB Dive Near - Notable plays: HB Toss, FB Dive Single Back: Good for both passing and running. Notable plays: HB Dives, Flea Flicker, Slot Reverse, HB Toss Shotgun: Great for passing, poor for running, but it is possible. Notable plays: Post, HB Draw Goaline: Obviously great for running short yardage but is also good for short passes. Notable plays: QB Sneak, HB Power, FB Power Special Teams: FG's, punts and fakes mainly. Notable plays: FG, Punt, Stop Clock, QB Kneel Various Tips and Hints ---------------------- -If a ball is tipped, switch to a player near the ball and try to catch it. A tipped ball can be often caught, especially if you are on offense. -When running with the ball, don't press A to speed burst to often because that tires out your player faster. -If you want an easy victory, just end the game whenever you lead in points. The game will stop right there. -For greater ease in running the ball, use the spin (B) and the jump buttons (R) for your advantage. A well timed dive can also net you extra yardage. The best plays are generally runs to the outside. -When you pass the ball, make sure you pass correctly. If you are going deep with a long bomb, you should press the reciever button very quickly, and that will produce a lob pass. A long press produces a bullet pass. -If your passes are frequently tipped, press the pass button for less time and before you pass, make sure to back your QB away from all of the linemen. -Kicking field goals require a feathery touch and good skill. If you are planning to just kick a field goal, it may be worth the time to do a running play to center the ball in the middle of the field. Kicking a field goal from either of the stripes can be difficult due to the touchy lateral controls. -On kick and punt returns, try to reach the sidelines as soon as possible, as that will allow you to gain more yards. -On punt returns, I find it useful to reposition the cornerbacks to better slow down the recievers. If you don't the recievers will be able to get around your cornerbacks down the field. *********************************************************************** * Credits & Extras * *********************************************************************** Special Thanks: --------------- DaddyBear, for his All-Madden Team player name updates EA Sports for creating this game Gamefaqs.com for obvious reasons --------------- This FAQ was created by Zephyrmaster (2nd FAQ) Only these sites are allowed to use the FAQ thusfar: www.gamefaqs.com www.neoseeker.com If you would like to put this FAQ on your site, please email me.
