ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS |======================================================= +======================+ The following are a list of people or organizations that have made this FAQ possible: My wonderful family (who has had to put up with the tapping on the keyboard) KOEI for making a great war game GameFAQ's for putting up this FAQ +=============+ | 4. WELCOME |================================================================ +=============+ Welcome to my in-depth FAQ for Liberty or Death. This is not, however, a FAQ or strategy guide for the game. It is instead a data/hex dump of the program. What this means is that the data or information that was on the cartridge was dumped into a more useable form. There are several purposes or reasons for a hex dump. The big reason is that if you are playing a game and you don't think you have gotten everything, you can dump a programs contents to see all of the different items or objects that exist. This is especially helpful with the "rumored" objects or the very rare objects that may occur in a game. Another reason for a dump is if you are writing a FAQ for a game. Granted you may have played the game many times over, but you want to make sure the information is correct; this is the way to confirm your information. I will attempt to make this guide as user friendly as possible. I will explain each section and chapter as they occur for what data you are looking at. I will also explain some of the more interesting things that I found after I did the dump. Again, this is not a strategy guide. It is instead to be used as a resource to enhance your game playing experience. Since there are no spoilers in the game, most things that appear in this guide should not be a surprise as you go through the game. If you wish to e-mail me your thoughts on this FAQ, better ways of doing things, other strategies, etc., feel free. Make sure you put LOD FAQ in the subject. If you don't, I'm liable to discard the e-mail as spam. +==============+ | 5. OVERVIEW |=============================================================== +==============+ Liberty or Death is a game that takes place during the Revolutionary War. You can play the Americans who are struggling against the tyranny to break away from "Mother England or you can play the British whose purpose is to crush the rebellious upstarts in America. Either way you go, you will have a long road ahead of you. You will have command of a couple of hundred military leaders, resources to supply those leaders and troops, and also have to deal with the headaches of managing your districts. This game is not a linear start to finish game. You get to make the decisions of when and where to attack, resources needed to attack or defend, and resources necessary to manage your districts efficiently. If you are playing the Americans and make a good stand against the British, the French and Spanish may come and help you out. To achieve victory, as either the Americans or British, you must successfully take all 53 districts to win the game. You must be familiar with strategy and tactics in order to achieve this victory. Good luck. *************** ******************************** U N I T II ********************************** *************** +=======================+ | 6. With the support of the people, all things are possible. Any cause that lacks popular support must ultimately fail. Strong popular support will often prevent disaster. Loyalty is a virtue, especially among your officers. One disloyal officer can change the outcome of a war. You cannot put a price on the loyalty of your officers. A good musket is a soldier's best friend. Dependable rifles save lives in battle. Please consider purchasing arms for your troops. Trained soldiers won't run away in battle. A well trained soldier can be trusted in battle. I suggest we run military drills this month. A division with few troops cannot be effective in battle. Strong divisions require large numbers of men. A division with many men can do much damage in battle. Stocking up on powder is effective for battling stronger foes. In battle, a soldier without powder is a liability. Soldiers can't be effective in battle without powder. A hungry soldier will be weak in battle. Effective troops must be well-fed as well as well-armed. Hungry troops will be vulnerable to attack. In 1585, the first colonists set sail from Great Britain in hope of finding new wealth and freedom in North America. Though America promised to hold profit for the homeland, the people endured many hardships before the first colonies began to take shape. Thereafter, Great Britain imposed a heavy tax on the prosperous colonies. When the people rose up in protest, the British Fleet moved to America's shores. I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country. Nathan Hale was captured and eliminated without trial. He was a great and patriotic hero, and will not be forgotten. Our men rioted and eliminated Nathan Hale without authorization. Now the rebels have a martyr! +===============+ | 9. AFTTERTHOUGHTS |========================================================= +====================+ I've played this game many times but I have often wondered about what things one would see. After doing this data dump, I realized I had seen most of the messages and other data. Although there are 250 officers in this game, I know that even when both sides were at their peak, that many weren't available at that time. It was fun doing this data dump and I may do it to a few other games I have since there are things in these games that are truly interesting and fun.
