Hopefully, you will find this one useful to you. I am making this so people who get the game on Christmas will find it useful. This guide lists many secrets not found on most internet based guides. If you would like to take from this guide, just give some credit to me. Now, on with the show! Table of Contents - Part 2 7. Version Updates for Part 2 8. Where to find the 10 Big Poes 9. How to get Epona the Horse 10. All 13 Ocarina Songs 11. How to get the hard to find Items 12. How to beat the Bosses ----------------------------- 7. Version Updates for Part 2 ----------------------------- Version 1.3: January 28, 1999 - Fixed some minor details, added a bit more to the boss help. Version 1.2: January 15, 1999 - Added more detail to learning songs, fixed date for Version 1.1. Version 1.1: January 10, 1999 - More minor editing. Fixed the TOC. Version 1: December 12, 1998 - Started the dang thing, duh! -------------------------------- 8. Where to find the 10 Big Poes -------------------------------- The 10 Big Poes must be hunted using Epona. Otherwise, the Poe you begin to fight is a regular Poe which does not count toward the total. You need to capture all 10 Big Poes into a bottle and hand it over to the Ghost Hunter in Hyrule Market. Catching Poes is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE without Epona. Again, it can be done without her (with a 1% chance), but it is much easier with her. You need to make the Poes reveal themselves and then hit it twice with arrows. Your skills need to be sharp so you can hit them. Also, make sure you have a bottle ready and don't try to get one if you are full. The Poe spirit will disappear if you do not have a bottle ready. You can tell if the enemy you killed was a Poe or Big Poe if the spirit left behind is yellow. Yellow equals Big Poe. Purple equals Poe. Oh yeah, you want to know why to hunt Big Poes in the first place? Go to the How to get hard to find items section. First Poe Northwest section of Hyrule Field. Ride around the brush until you reveal a Big Poe. Second Poe The sign near Hyrule Castle. Brush by it to reveal a Big Poe. Third Poe The bottom V-Shaped wall east of Lon Lon Ranch. Brush by it to reveal a Big Poe. Fourth Poe The lookout point near Kakariko Village. Go under the little bridge to reveal a Big Poe. Fifth Poe Southeast section of Hyrule Field. Ride around the brush until you reveal a Big Poe. Sixth Poe Southeast section of Hyrule Field. Ride around the brush until you reveal a Big Poe. Seventh Poe The intersection near Gerudo Valley. Ride on the path until you reveal a Big Poe. Eighth Poe The tree near the north end of the intersection. Brush by it to reveal a Big Poe. Ninth Poe The tree north of the entrance of Lon Lon Ranch. Brush by it to reveal a Big Poe. Tenth Poe The Big Rock at the beginning of the gap of the Y-Shaped Path. Brush by it to reveal a Big Poe. IF YOU NEED HELP, PLEASE LOOK AT THE HYRULE CASTLE MAP (CAN BE FOUND AT GAMEFAQS.COM, LOOK UNDER ZELDA: OCARINA OF TIME). ----------------------------- 9. How to get Epona the Horse ----------------------------- Epona the horse will be a very powerful ally in unlocking some of the secrets in Zelda 64. It isn't easy for the beginner to get Epona even though they know it's possible (looking at the title screen). The start of getting Epona begins in the beginning of the game. Make sure you learn Epona's Song as a child. Malon will teach it to you when you go to Lon Lon Ranch. When you are an adult, go to Lon Lon Ranch. Something has changed as Ingo now seems to control the ranch and praises Lord Ganondorf. Talk to him and pay to ride a horse. Play Epona's Song and Epona will come to you. Climb on her and talk to Ingo while on her. He will propose a race for 50 Rupees. Agree. The 1st race is very easy, use a carrot, stay in Ingo's way and use a carrot when it comes back. The race is only one lap so you can gun it at the end. He is a sore loser and he will ask for another race. The 2nd race is a bit harder. You should use more carrots and stay in his way as much as possible. If you run of carrots (you shouldn't, but it is easy to do) just stay in his way. You will get all 6 carrots back at once after some time. If you win the 2nd race, you get Epona, but you can't get her out of the ranch the easy way. Instead, run around the track for a few laps. Go toward one of the barriers and jump it at full blast. If you are good, you will switch to a small cinema showing you jumping out of Lon Lon Ranch onto Hyrule Field. Good job, you got Epona! However, when you start a game over and end up at the Temple of Time, you can't find Epona! Easy way to get her back, just play Epona's Song and she will come running at you. You can also do this to summon her in areas or to make her to come to you. ------------------------ 10. All 13 Ocarina Songs ------------------------ There really is no point to this since you can get the songs in the subscreen. Go to where the Master Sword and Sheik will teach the Prelude of Light. The Prelude of Light is used to warp you to the white Triforce symbol in the Temple of Time. -Scarecrow's Song - ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ?, ? (Okay, now I put the ? because you make the Scarecrow's Song. This song is not needed, but you need it to get some hearts and gold skulltulas. To start learning it, go to Lake Hylia. Talk to Bonooru the Scarecrow. Play for him a song with at least 2 notes. Now, go back to Lake Hylia as an adult and play the song you played as a child for him. If you play the exact song, you will gain the Scarecrow's Song. The notes are the song you played for him. You can go back in time and change the song, but you'll have to play it for him again. The song won't appear in the Subscreen. The point of the song is to have Pierre the scarecrow appear in certain places. You can tell if the song is useful if Navi turns green and goes to a faraway place. Play the song and see what happens). --------------------------------- 11. How to get hard to find Items --------------------------------- -How do I get the first Bullet Bag upgrade? (NOTE: This upgrade does not seem to work in Gold Versions of the game.) -How do I get the Mask of Truth? First, sell the Keaton Mask to the guard of Death Mountain in Kakariko Village. Next, sell the Skull Mask to the lone Skull Kid in the Lost Woods. After that, sell the Spooky Mask to the kid who walks around the Kakariko Graveyard in the morning. Last, sell the Bunny Hood to the man who runs around Hyrule Field. After all this, you will be able to select the Mask of Truth and 3 other masks at the Happy Mask Shop. -How do I get the fourth bottle? Bring 10 Big Poes to the Ghost Hunter in Hyrule Market. -How do I get the first Quiver upgrade? Just win the Archery Game in Kakariko Village perfectly. -How do I get the Hookshot? Warp back to the past Kakariko Village and climb down the well after playing the Song of Storms in the windmill. The water will drain and you can go down. -How do I get the Gerudo Pass? Just free all 4 carpenters in the Gerudo Fortress. -How do I get the Ice Arrows? Unlock your way to the large treasure chest in the Gerudo Training Ground. (BTW, always take the left way when starting!) -How do I get the second Quiver upgrade? Just get 1500 points on the Horseback Archery Game in Gerudo Fortress. -How do I get Naryu's Love? Blow up the wall in between the two palm trees on the north wall of the Desert Colossus. -How do I get the Gold Gauntlets? Get to the visible platform after the one with the Like Like in the Shadow part of Ganon's Castle. Fire a fire arrow at the torch on the other visible platform. If you light it, on the right side of the platform you are on, there will some ice blocks. Follow them down to the switch. Longshot onto the treasure chest that appears on the platform you were on. Open it. -How do I get the Biggoron Sword? I've saved the best for last my friends! Look at the item description of it if you want to know why it is so good. BTW, all this is done when you are an adult. First, go to Kakariko Village and talk to the chicken lady. She will give you a Pocket Egg. Let it hatch into a Pocket Cucco. Use the Pocket Cucco to wake up Talon who is sleeping with the two fat ladies in Kakariko town. Bring back the Pocket Cucco to the chicken lady and you will get Cojiro, the blue Cucco. Bring Cojiro to the man who is sitting near the log where the lone skull kid used to be. Give it to him in exchange for the Odd Mushroom. Run, don't walk with the Odd Mushroom since it will expire if you are slow. Bring the Odd Mushroom to the Old Lady's Potion shop in Kakariko Village (use the exit in the other Potion Shop). She will give you the Odd Medicine. Bring the Odd Medicine to the Lost Woods, but instead of the man, you will see a Kokiri girl. Give her the medicine and you will get the Poacher's Saw. Go to Gerudo Valley and cross the bridge using Epona or a Hookshot. Give the man the Poacher's Saw and he will give you the broken Goron sword. Bring the Goron Sword to the top of Death Mountain (where the entrance to Death Mountain Cavern is). Go to the right side and a big Goron should appear. Give him the Broken Sword and he will give you the Prescription. Go to Zora's Domain and show King Zora the Prescription (only if he is defrosted). He will give you an eyeball frog to take to the Old Man in Lake Hylia. Again, run, don't walk, to Lake Hylia. When you get there, trade the frog for the Eye Drops. You'll have to run again since the Eye Drops can expire. This time, run to Death Mountain. I suggest using the Magic Plant here since it can fly you up very quickly. Otherwise, you may lose too much time. When you get to Biggoron, give him the Eye Drops and he will give you the Claim Check. Wait a few days and give him the Claim Check when he is ready. You will now recieve the Biggoron Sword, the real "Master Sword". -------------------------- 12. How to beat the Bosses -------------------------- How to beat: Parasitic Armored Arachnid - GOHMA Pretty easy if you know what you are doing. Just Z-Target her, get the Slingshot ready. When her eye is red, fire away. She will be stunned for some time so use this time to take out your sword and jump attack her while she is slumped on the ground. She will jump up back onto the ceiling. If you are slow and cannot attack quickly, she will start sending out some Gohma Spawn, which you should kill quickly as possible. Try and keep her Z-Targeted at all times. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Infernal Dinosaur - KING DODONGO The King is hard to beat since you probably won't realize how to kill him at first. It took me awhile as well. First, stand near the edge of the lava. Make sure not to touch it however. That way, when the King rolls around or shoots lava, you will not get hurt. After he crashes after he stops rolling, grab on of the Bomb Flowers laying around (only if he is close, if he is on the other side of the room, don't try anything until he gets closer). Run to him while you hold the Bomb Flower. When he opens his mouth, Z-Target it and throw the flower in. If you were good enough, he should swallow it and it will explode in his tummy. He'll fall down, leaving a good opening to use a Jump Attack. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Bio-Electric Anemone - BARINADE To begin, Barinade goes through many forms. In his first form, Z-Target the top parts of him and attack them with a boomerang. After that, he will release some pods that will circle him. Attack them until the main body opens up. When it does, hit it with a boomerang. Barinade will become blue and you can attack with a jump attack. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Evil Spirit from Beyond - PHANTOM GANON There are two forms of Phantom Ganon. In the first, there are two Ganons, one fake, the other real. The Ganons come through the pictures all over the room. You need to hit the Ganon with a bow when it comes out (if it is the real one). So, keep your bow trained on a Ganon coming at you from a picture. If the Ganon you are targeting turns back at the last moment, it is a fake. Roll to the edge of the platform to avoid the attack from the real Ganon. Keep trying until the Phantom Ganon goes to the next form. In the second form, the Phantom Ganon will fire magic balls at you. Just use your sword to swing it back at him. He may or may not swing it back at you. Keep playing tennis until he gets hit and stunned. When stunned, jump in for the kill. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Subterranean Lava Dragon - VOLVAGIA You know that game with the moles that you hit with a hammer? This is what it would be like in 3-D. Volvagia pokes his head out of a hole and you have to hit him with the Megaton Hammer. Make sure it isnt a decoy poke out since you'll lose precious time recovering from the attack. Every once in awhile, Volvagia will fly out. You can attack him when he is flying, but it isnt recommended. When he is flying, rocks of lava will fall, but just keep moving to avoid them. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Giant Aquatic Amoeba - MORPHA Morpha is very easy to beat. Since you have the Longshot, you can get him so far away he can't attack you. Just Z-Target the little ball in one of the tentacles. Pull it towards you with the Longshot and then hit it with your sword. Each time the ball returns, a new tentacle appears. Make sure to avoid the tentacle attacks and just keep Z-Targeting the ball from far away. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Phantom Shadow Beast - BONGO BONGO You can tell if Bongo Bongo is going to attack if his hand stops pounding on the platform. To attack him, just hit his hands with a bow shot. Magic pots and arrows come out of a sucessful arrow shot. When both hands are blue, use the Eye of Truth to find the Eye. Hit the Eye with a Bow Shot and than Jump Attack him while stunned. If you are slow, the hands will recover and you will have to start over. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: Sorceress Sisters - TWINROVA The first form his somewhat hard. You should not Z-Target a single witch until you reflect energy. Then, you should Z-Target the witch you want to hit. The way to harm the witches is hard to do. You need to wait till one of the witches fires a beam at you. Bring out your shield and reflect the beam toward the other witch. Repeat until they turn into one boss. The second form is easy to beat compared to the first. Just Z-Target the witch and show your shield. Have the shield contain the energy blasts from the witch. Make sure to contain 3 of the same shot in a row. (Ex. If you start with ice blasts, make sure to only contain ice blasts, jump out of the way of fire blasts). When you collect 3 of the same shot in a row, you will fire it back at the witch. She will become stunned. Just jump onto where she is and jump attack. Running over there with Hover Boots is a time saver. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: King of Thieves - GANONDORF In the beginning, if you fall with the platform climb up and jump to one of the corners of the room. I suggest keeping Hover Boots on the whole fight, you will see why. If you stand in one of the ledges, Ganondorf may use an attack to knock the whole ledge down. He won't use that if you are in a corner. Usually, Ganondorf attacks like Phantom Ganon's 2nd form, using energy balls. Just reflect it back to him with a sword shot until he is stunned. While stunned, use a Light Arrow to make him fall to the center platform. Then, walk over to the center platform and use a jump attack to hurt him. You might be able to do two, but I'm careful and I walk back to the corner. If you see Ganon drawing a lot of energy, fight a Light Arrow at him as soon as possible. He will use his super attack if you allow him to use his attack and it does hurt. The Light Arrow will cancel the attack as well as allowing you to go in for another attack. If you run out of magic, hearts or arrows, just drop down to below the battle room back to the room with the pots. There are plenty of items you can get to replenish your supplies. Repeat the process until dead. How to beat: GANON Pretty dang easy if you ask me. A little tip here, if you need some hearts, magic pots, etc., just have Ganon take down a pillar. His first form is very slow. Just Z-Target his tail and side jump on his left side. If you try his right side, you're asking for some hurt since his right side attack his very hard to avoid. The left side attack is easily avoided and the recoil time can be used to jump attack him your sword. Repeat until he goes into his second form. In the down time between his forms, grab the Master Sword. You can't use what you did before since Ganon is now faster. You can do two things at this point. You can Z-Target his face and fire a light arrow. Or, you can roll under his legs (yes, it is possible) and slice his tail from there. After you beat Ganon beatly enough, Zelda will hold him down and you must equip the Master Sword as this point. Use the Sword to slice him and enjoy the rest of the game. Due to lack of space a txt file can hold, I must end it short here. But do not worry! Just proceed to part 3! (If available). Copyright 1998 Roland Carlos
