I'm Engelen(AKA LSnake on Gamefaqs), a level 214 Martial Artist, played Anarchy Online since January 2002. I have played several high level Martial Artist Alts and have also worked as a Martial Artist Professional on the forums. Attention: This FAQ is rewritten from my original guide at the official Anarchy Online forums, located at this url: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php ?s=205b2335e80888e24a954b7c35288b3c&threadid=213250 Naturally, I had to make some rather big changes to the setup, several things had to be removed and/or modified, but I still think it will serve well here too. The Layout had to be rather heavily modified to fit into a FAQ here, but I'll do my best to make it work. Note: This guide requires you to know the basic of the game to fully understand the contents of this guide. Note 2: This guide requires an Internet Connection if you want to get the maximum out of it. It can still be read and enjoyed without it, but most items and equipment have much more information online. I hope you will enjoy it! If you want to correct any errors, contribute anything you might think should be here or get in touch with me, feel free to email me at: lsnake@gmail.com or oddsnake@hotmail.com: ******************************************************************************* *** 2: The Creation [2CRE] *** ******************************************************************************* So you decide to make a new Martial Artist! Its a very good choice, Martial Artstis are absolutely one of the strongest professions in the game, very good at soloing, while being a strong part of any teams. There are several factors that make the Martial Artist profession so good: -Great Damage (Especially in the latter part of the game) -Very good Evades (Also kicking in after 140) -Decent Heals -Very Cheap, Dont need Weapons -Implants and Skills are set up nice Before we continue, I`d like to explain a bit. Skills, like "Martial Arts", "Brawl", "Evades" and more are based upon your "Base Abilities". Base Abilities again, are based upon what Breed you choose. With this fresh in mind, lets look at the most important skill of all, "Martial Arts". Based on 50% Agility, 20% Strength and 30% Psychic, we can now see that if you want to go for max MA skill and Attack Rating, choose a Breed with high Agility, and preferably Strength and Psychic very close. I`d like to present a an overview of the breedcaps for the different Breeds at level 200 and 220: +---------+ | Solitus | +---------+ Solitus is a well-rounded breed fit for most professions, and is also a very good choice for Martial Artists. +-----------------------+ | Level 200 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 472 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 480 | +-----------------------+ +-----------------------+ | Level 220 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 772 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 780 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 780 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 780 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 780 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 780 | +-----------------------+ +--------+ | Opifex | +--------+ Opifex is the best breed for Martial Artists. They have a very high Agility and Sense, with Strength close behind. Slightly lower Health than Solius, but far more Evades and Martial Arts skills makes them the best breed. +-----------------------+ | Level 200 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 464 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 544 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 464 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 512 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 448 | +-----------------------+ +-----------------------+ | Level 220 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 764 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 944 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 680 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 764 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 912 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 748 | +-----------------------+ +-------+ | Atrox | +-------+ Awesome Health, Strength and Stamina makes the Atrox Breed a very sturdy and strong MA, but in terms of MA Skills they fall behind alot. +-----------------------+ | Level 200 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 512 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 512 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 400 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 400 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 400 | +-----------------------+ +-----------------------+ | Level 220 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 912 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 780 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 912 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 600 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 600 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 600 | +-----------------------+ +----------+ | Nanomage | +----------+ The weakest of the four breeds, the Nanomage does not have any real advantage compared to the other three breeds. The only thing that helps out, is the huge nanopool and the higher nanoskills than the other breeds but this is rarely worth +-----------------------+ | Level 200 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 464 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 464 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 448 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 512 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 480 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 512 | +-----------------------+ +-----------------------+ | Level 220 Ability Cap | +=======================+ | Strength | 664 | +-----------------+-----+ | Agility | 664 | +-----------------+-----+ | Stamina | 748 | +-----------------+-----+ | Intelligence | 912 | +-----------------+-----+ | Sense | 780 | +-----------------+-----+ | Psychic | 912 | +-----------------------+ From that comparison, you can see that if you wanna go for the absolute best, choose Opifex. Close second is Solitus with higher Strength and Psychic but much lower Agility, with Atrox and Nanomage on Third and Fourth. While a Nanomage may look okay on paper, they are unfortunately too weak and have little HP. Remember that if your Evades doesnt hold, you only got your HP, since their heals wont be enough at higher levels. So, to conclude the breed, in best order: 1. Opifex 2. Solitus 3. Atrox 4. Nanomage Keep in mind that if you choose Atrox, you will have problems casting the highest nanos on lower levels unless you have Nano Skill towers/200+ Implants/Perks into Abilities which causes drip offs. This has become easier after Shadowlands though, with perks and new equipment making up for the low int/psy. No Matter what you choose, the good thing here is that all of these breeds have their good sides, but only Atrox and Nanomages have actually any "lesser" sides. Atroxes have problem with Nanoskills and Nano Pool, but they regain it by having the highest HP of all the MA breeds. Nanomages can easily selfcast the highest MA nanos before any other, and can have a very good Nanopool(which helps healing), but they have a very low HP. ******************************************************************************* *** 3: Skills [3SKI] *** ******************************************************************************* Martial Artists have a quite acceptable skill setup, most skills are very cheap except the nanoskills, but you will mostly only need four Nanoskills, not all of them, so it isn't that bad. I`ll do a little summary of the importance of Base Abilities first. Depending on your breed and playstyle, there is no set choice of which to increase, you will have to consider several factors before deciding what abilities to increase. +---------+ | AGILITY | +---------+ Agility is very important for a Martial Artist. It's used for Martial Arts, Evades, Armor, Implants and lots of drip off skills. The Tier Armor has this as the primary Requirement. +----------+ | STRENGTH | +----------+ Strength is also important since Martial Arts is based upon it, and its used for equipping a lot of good armor. The Tier Armor uses it as the second requirement. Other skills that benefit from it is Brawl and Runspeed. +--------------+ | INTELLIGENCE | +--------------+ Important. The main point with Intelligence is all the drip off points into Nano Skills, which you will need to selfcast the highest buffs at lowest possible level. +---------+ | STAMINA | +---------+ The Three main points with Stamina is equipping armor, increasing Body Development and Implants. Not directly so much affecting Martial Arts, but important for a lot of other things. +---------+ | PSYCHIC | +---------+ Believe it or not, Psychic is an important skill since it is used for Martial Arts and Nano Pool. If you cannot increase both Psychic and Max Nano, go for Psychic as it gives you more Martial Arts in addition to free Max Nano. +-------+ | SENSE | +-------+ Back in the earlier days, Sense was considered as a very important MA skill. It is primary used as the ability which Evades and Physical Init is based on, but MA Armor and Equipment is also dependent on it. +------------------+ | BODY DEVELOPMENT | +------------------+ Very Important since it increases your Max Health. Keep this as high as possible, since it is very vital for keeping you alive. +----------+ | MAX NANO | +----------+ Important since the bigger nanopool you have, the more heals you can cast without needing to recharge, and the longer you can stay alive. ******************************************************************************* *** 3.1: Primary Skills [31SK] *** ******************************************************************************* These are the skills you should be focusing on. In order for you to do damage and survive, this is what you must increase. Always max Martial Arts, and keep Physical Init and Evades VERY high, max if possible. +--------------+ | MARTIAL ARTS | +--------------+ Martial Arts is the skill that calculates how much damage you do and it also increases your Attack Rating. This is the most important skill of all, so always max this skill. +-------+ | BRAWL | +-------+ Our main special attack, with 14 seconds recharge, high damage and chance for stun, this is a very important special attack. +--------------------+ | EVADE CLOSE COMBAT | +--------------------+ This is a highly important skill to increase, since it gives you a better chance of evading melee attacks. +--------------+ | DODGE RANGED | +--------------+ Again a very important skill, this gives you a better chance of evading ranged attacks, which means nearly all attacks with Guns and Ranged Weaponry. +-----------------+ | DUCK EXPLOSIVES | +-----------------+ The least important of the three Evade skills, this is used to dodge Grenade and Shotgun based attacks. +-----------+ | TREATMENT | +-----------+ Very important. Used for using high treatment kits and putting in Implants, this one is important to keep as high as possible. +---------------+ | PHYSICAL INIT | +---------------+ Increasing Physical Init has two good effects, it lets you hit faster, and it also lets you adjust your Agg Def Bar so that you can gain more defense while attacking just as fast. ******************************************************************************* *** 3.2: Secondary Skills [32SK] *** ******************************************************************************* These are important skills, for example used for casting our nanos. Without nanos, you won't stand much chance. +--------------------------+ | BIOLOGICAL METAMORPHOSES | +--------------------------+ Shortname is Bio Met, and is used for the following types of nanos: Healing, AC Buffs, Fears, Short Time Damage Boosts and Damage Type Buffs +----------------------------+ |PSYCHOLOGICAL MODIFICATIONS | +----------------------------+ Shortname is Psy Mod, and is used for the following types of nanos: Evades, Martial Arts Skill, Crit, Init and Brawl Buffs +---------------------+ | SENSORY IMPROVEMENT | +---------------------+ Shortname is Sen(sor) Imp, and is used for the following types of nanos: Healing, Evades, Martial Arts Skill, Crit, Init, Brawl, Short Time Damage Boosts and Damage Type Buffs +--------------+ | TIME & SPACE | +--------------+ Shortname is TS, and is used for the following types of nanos: Crit Buffs It is also very important because it is required for using Nano Rechargers. +-----------+ | FIRST AID | +-----------+ The Extra Heal, both in Healing and Nano Form is very useful. However, even more important than healing yourself, is being able to support others with both Heal and Nano Stims, especially doctors and enforcers. They will really appreciate this. +--------+ | DIMACH | +--------+ This is the "Killer" Special which can do a insane amount of damage. It does have 30 minutes recharge at lower level, so use it wisely. After 1000 Dimach Skill, the recharge will start to sink while your skill goes up. +-------------+ | NANO RESIST | +-------------+ Used for resisting hostile Nano programs. ******************************************************************************* *** 3.3: Third Skills [33SK] *** ******************************************************************************* These are skills that you don't have to worry about unless they get too low, or until you need to increase them. Computer Literacy is the exception since it is required when you want to equip more NCU. +-------------------+ | COMPUTER LITERACY | +-------------------+ Used for equipping higher NCU and Belt and getting better prices in shops. +-------+ | PARRY | +-------+ Parry has several functions. First of all, it SHOULD be a defensive function, but as of today, 16 May 2005 it is not working. Secondly, it is used for two very good and popular MA Specials called "Blessed With Thunder" and "Flower of Life". Thirdly, it is used to equip some equipment, and to use the Parry Sticks. +---------+ | RIPOSTE | +---------+ Riposte has two primary functions. First of all, it SHOULD be a defensive function, but as of today, 16 May 2005 it is not working. Secondly, it is used for a very important MA Special, "Upon a Wave of Summer". +-----+ | BOW | +-----+ Bows are primary used by PvP players who wants to extend their range and to be able to use Aimed Shot, but you can also use it to increase your damage by hotswapping Bow and Fist. +--------------+ | 1 HAND BLUNT | +--------------+ The 1 Hand Blunt skill is only used for equipping some weapons Martial Artists can use. Unless you are building your character for that, leave it alone. +----------+ | PIERCING | +----------+ The Piercing skill is only used for equipping some weapons that Martial Artists can use. They aren't all that good with Shadowlands and Alien Invasion, so it's recommended to leave it alone for the time being. +-----------+ | RUN SPEED | +-----------+ Very nice, especially in Shadowlands. This increases the speed when you run, making it very important if you are traveling alot. +-----------+ | NANO INIT | +-----------+ Not as important as it may seem, since the MA Nanos have a very short cast time, so not much Nano Init is needed to Instant Cast them. +----------------+ | MAP NAVIGATION | +----------------+ Upgrade this to 130 Points to get all the useful Map Upgrades +-------------+ | VEHICLE AIR | +-------------+ Find a Low Yalmaha, and you should be able to keep this under 100 Points ******************************************************************************* *** 4: IMPLANTS [4IMP] *** ******************************************************************************* When creating implants, you should think about this first. Depending on what 3 clusters you use, you will end up with different Ability requirement. If you follow the first setup, you can customize your imps, but you gotta watch the Abilities. If you use the second, it only uses Strength/Agility/Stamina. In the places where you can choose different Clusters, I`ll add them to the right parts. 1: All Jobe Clusters have a Title Level 4 Requirement, and can not be built into Implants under QL100. In those cases where I only list up Jobe Clusters, go for blank until you can put in Jobe. 2: Multi Melee is only needed if you are using Dual Parry Sticks or Claws 3: There are a few without Bold. Those consist of several good options, which is entirely up to you and your playing. 4: Implants with Weapon skills are only recommended if you actually use those weapons. 5: If you plan to use normal implants to cast FFoK and UVC early, follow the Bold Nanoskills. ******************************************************************************* *** 4.1: Generic Martial Artist Setup [41IM] *** ******************************************************************************* This is a Generic Overview of the normal choices you make when making MA implants. Think about Abilities when following this setup. This setup most likely won't work well if you are planning to twink by using a few abilities only, but it's more directed at the normal setup. +------+ | HEAD | +------+ [43IM] *** ******************************************************************************* This is a suggested Symbiant Setup. If you are unsure about what Symbiants to use, you can always take a peak at this setup. Note 1: There are no Symbiants adding Martial Arts to Left Hand, so use a Normal Implant with a Martial Arts cluster instead. Note 2: For Left Wrist, you should really try for the Fist of the Dominator. Neither Support or Infantry Left Wrist is half as good, so feel free to choose one with the mods that suit you best there if you can't get the Fist of the Dominator. Note 3: You`ll notice the lack of Agility. This is because, unfortunately, the Infantry Leg and Waist Symbiants lack it. They got everything else you need though, so my personal advice is to use the Infantry Symbiants for daily use and Swap to Support when equipping Agility Armor or Equipment. +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Location | Recommended Symbiant | +===============+=========================================================+ | Eye: | Support Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Head: | Support Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Ear: | Support Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Right Arm: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Chest: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Left Arm: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Right Wrist: | Support Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Waist: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Left Wrist: | Fist of the Dominator (Found in Inner Sanctum) | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Right Hand: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Leg: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Left Hand: | Normal Left Hand Implant with Martial Artist Cluster | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ | Feet: | Infantry Unit Symbiant | +---------------+---------------------------------------------------------+ ******************************************************************************* *** 5: Nanos [5NAN] *** ******************************************************************************* Martial Artists primary uses four Nanoskills, Bio Met, Psy Mod, Sensor Imp and TS(Time & Space). MA's usually don't equip a visible weapon. Their weapons are the Fists. In order to increase your damage, you increase your Martial Arts Skill, which will directly increase the damage you do. The more skill, the more damage you do. However, there are some equippable alternatives, even though the fists are still the best weapon. Good info about using other weapons can be found at Chronitas Martial Artist Compendium located at this link: http://users.adelphia.net/~chronita/index.htm When you use fists, your Attack Rating(The one you'll see in your Status Window, called "Attack") will be 100% based on your Martial Artist Skill plus any additional Add All Off Equipment you might be wearing. When you equip a weapon, your Attack Rating will now be based upon it, so if a weapon's Attack Rating doesn't use Martial Arts at all, you will get a VERY low Attack Rating, and your chance to hit will go down alot. Most weapons MA's can use, apart from Bows, have a so-called "Split Attack Rating". If it says 67% Martial Arts and 33% 1 Hand Blunt, then the Attack Rating is split between your current skills in both areas, thus it will be lower. So, using a weapon that has split requirement will lower your Attack Rating. Secondly, most MA weapons have a certain "MA for combined Attack" and a number behind it. That number is the Martial Arts skill needed to get a second attackbar, using your fists, but lowered by the new AR. If you use 2 weapons and they have the "MA for combined Attack", then you will only get one extra attackbar, so the max attackbars you can have is 3. In that case, the two first attacks will base its damage upon the rules of the weapon equipped, and the third attack will be based upon fists, but lowered by the new and lower AR. You do get more attacks per minute by using weapons+MA fists, but the AR is lowered, which again causes your chance to hit to decrease. ******************************************************************************* *** 7.1: How Attack Rating is split [71AR] *** ******************************************************************************* To do a very easy example of how your Attack Rating is calculated when wearing a weapon, lets say a Parry Stick, I`ll show you with an example. Attack Rating when using a Parry Stick is split between 67% MA skill and 33% 1HB skill. My total AR with 1 Parry Stick equipped was 1155, and I want to know how to calculate it. You have to calculate 67% of the Dominant Skill(In this case, MA Skill) and 33% of the Sub Skill(In this case, 1HB Skill), and then add them together to get the total current Attack Rating. Let's see: -Total AR with Parry Stick Equipped: 1155 -MA skill: 1342 -1HB skill: 778 1: Calculate how much 67% of 1342 is by: 1342*67/100 and you'll get 899.14 2: Calculate how much 33% of 778 is by: 778*33/100 and you'll get 256.74 3: Add 899.14+256.74 and you`ll get 1155.88 ******************************************************************************* *** 7.2: Recommended Weapons [72WE] *** ******************************************************************************* If you do choose to use weapons, there are several choices, here are some of them(With links to them in the database): +-------------+ | Parry Stick | +-------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.asp?AOID=152357 Information: Good Damage but a bit slow. They can be dualwielded, and if you got enough Martial Arts Skill you get an extra Fist Attack. A QL200 Parry Stick adds 100 points to your Evade Close Combat and Parry, and if you dual wield, you'll get 200 Points! If you are looking for the ultimate in Close Combat Defense, they are your solution. Parry sticks can be rolled and found in missions. +------------------+ | Hazangerine Claw | +------------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.asp?AOID=160287 Information: Another popular choice is the Claws. Faster, but lesser damage and mods than the Sticks, they are more suited towards quick combat. The good thing about them, is that you can fight full def and hit quite a lot faster than with the Parry Sticks. Claws can be rolled, and found on Martial Artist Mobs. +----------------+ | Torturing Tool | +----------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.asp?AOID=157899 Information: A weapon to consider against mobs with high AC, like Hecklers. Never drops higher than QL150 AFAIK. +---------------------------------+ | Service/Support Energy Gauntlet | +---------------------------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.aspx?AOID=214249 Information: This is an Unredeemed Weapon. The Energy Gauntlet is a decent weapon, but suffers from a few things. It does not take advantage of the crit based playing, it is unfortunately based 67% on Martial Arts and 33% on 1 Hand Blunt, and the 2/2s Attack and Recharge makes it slower than fists. +----------------------------+ | White Ant/Termite Nunchaku | +----------------------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.aspx?AOID=214258 Information: This is a Redeemed Weapon. They offer a good variety between both Offense and Defense, PvM and PvP. However, they are somehow specialized, so that most of them are only really useful in a certain area, and not in several. Two Perk Lines are almost completely directed at PvP, "Unstunnable" and "Spatial Displacement", while "Disharmony" is, due to the nature of the game mechanics only great for PvM at the moment. There's also not as much reason to choose Spatial Displacement if you only PvM, simply because there's not as many mobs actually using roots and snares so much that you cannot escape it. The time to reset a perk, is 24 hours. Think carefully over when choosing what perks you are going to use, because otherwise you might spend quite some time resetting them before you can use them again. ******************************************************************************* *** 9.1: Primary Perks [91PE] *** ******************************************************************************* +------------------+ | Spiritual Master | +------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+ | Effects | 150 to Martial Arts | | | 200 to Dimach | | | 150 to Riposte. | +------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+ | Perk Cost | 10 Perk Points. | +------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+ | Information | Recommended Strongly, and every MA should max this line. | +------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+ +------------+ | Disharmony | +------------+-----+----------------------------------------------------------+ | Effects | Gives you a Lifetap Chance with each attack | | | Adds 220 to all Damage | +------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+ | Perk Cost | 10 Perk Points. | +------------------+----------------------------------------------------------+ | Information | Recommended if you are primary doing PvM. Kill the Prophet/ Ecclesist in the 75% Room, give the NPC that spawns 6 Insignias of Shere and kill the mob that spawns and cross fingers. Very low drop rate. Information: Most appealing with this cloak is the looks, since the mods isn't all that good and you will most likely have a better back armor once(if) you get this. ******************************************************************************* *** 11.1: Tier 2 [11T2] *** ******************************************************************************* Tier 2 can seem rather complicated right away, but its really not that bad. Here`s what you need for one Tier 2 Piece. These parts drop in two different places, The Adonis Archaic Dungeons and in the Penumbra Archaic Dungeons. Will of the Unshakable X 3 Drops from Normal & Boss in Adonis & Pen Dungeon Advent of the Impetuous X 3 Drops from Normal & Boss in Adonis & Pen Dungeon Embryo of Yomi'Arallu X 1 Drops from Boss in Adonis, and Normal & Boss in The Penunmbra Archaic Dungeons Canister of Liquid Notum X 1 Must be at least QL80 - Drops from Most stuff in Shadowlands Step by Step instruction how to create the finished glyph: 1: Give 3 Will + 1 Embryo to IPS Martial Artist in the Professional Hall in Jobe, get Red Glyph of Aban. 2: Give 3 Advents to IPS Martial Artist, get Orange Moon Glyph of Roch 3: Use Canister of Liquid Notum on Red Glyph of Aban. 4: Use Orange Moon Glyph of Roch on Red Glyph of Aban to make a glyph. 5: Use the Glyph you just created on Tier 1 Armor Piece. To upgrade Helmet and Backarmor, first use a Joker`s Glyph on the Jobe Part, and then apply the standard Tier 2 Procedure. Joker`s Glyph is found on Eradicus, The Boss of the Dungeons spread around in Adonis. ******************************************************************************* *** 11.2: Tier 3 [11T3] *** ******************************************************************************* Chosen/Faithful is infact easier to get than Tier 2. Get a Team going in Pandemonium, and you should be able to get a glyph in no time. Blue Glyph of Aban X 1 Drops from normal mobs in Pandemonium Insignia of the Chosen(Omni)/Faithful(Clan) X 1 Drops of Redeemed/Unredeemed Mobs in Inferno, Reusable Finely Refined Notum X 1 Drops from Dryad bosses in Elysium, Adonis and Penumbra Step by Step instruction how to create the finished glyph: 1: Combine Blue Glyph of Aban with Finely Refined Notum, this Creates a Blue Glyph of Aban - Revived. 2: Combine Blue Glyph of Aban - Revived with Insignia of Chosen/Faithful. This Creates a Glyph of Judgement. 3: Combine Glyph of Judgement With your Tier 2 Piece, and Voila. This Last Step requires 990 Comp Lit. To upgrade the Shoulderpads into Tier 3, you have to get a Glyph of the Arcana, drops of Corrupted Mobs in Pandemonium. Its also Reusable, so just ask a friend to borrow one. First use Joker`s Glyph on Shoulderpads, then use Glyph of Arcana, and then apply standard Tier 3 Procedure. Helmet and Backarmor is made by using Jokers Glyph to turn into Tier 2, and is then turned into Tier 3 by using Standard Procedure. ******************************************************************************* *** 11.3: Shadowlands Equipment [11S2] *** ******************************************************************************* +--------------+ | Aim of Libra | +--------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.aspx?AOID=244637 How to get: Drops from Libra in Pandemonium Information: A very good item, Sense, Critical increase and XP modifier. +--------------------------------+ | Aquarius` Multitask Calculator | +--------------------------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.aspx?AOID=244376 How to get: Drops from Aquarius in Pandemonium Information: A VERY nice utils item for a Martial Artist. 20 Nano Resist and 2 Crit Increase. +------------------------------+ | Bigot`s Earring of Sacrifice | +------------------------------+ Link: http://aodb.info/showitem.aspx?AOID=245780 How to get: Drops from Big Helozabasael and Bigot Nzaemihiel in Inferno. Its meant, as a guideline, and a checklist for how you CAN play. It's a little hard to write down a guide of what perks to increase, so I can only recommend you to save as much Perks as possible til you get a grip on how things work and how good the MA perks are. Use what you need, reset if necessary. Important: This is in NO way a Twink guide. I know you can do stuff far earlier than I suggest(level 200 imps on level 90) and such, but its really nothing I want to push on those who play MA for the first time. +---------------------------+ | STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR BREED | +---------------------------+ First time you play MA? Choose Opifex or Solitus. Atrox and Nanomages are more difficult in respective sense(Nanoskills and Evades for Atrox, HP and general strength/survival for Nanomage), but they are definetly fun. +-----------------------------------+ | STEP 2: TITLE LEVEL 1(Level 1-14) | +-----------------------------------+ Description: This is the low level stage, easy, fast and not very demanding. Take it easy, get used to how to play a Martial Artist. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#Get used to distance and range, How far/close you can fight. | | | |#Get used to Attack/Recharge Speed | | | |#Get used to using the MA attack in the Inventory: Jab of the Snake. | | | |#Start to Focus early on important skills so that you can avoid big IP holes | | later on. | | | |#Try to put in either selfmade or premade QL20-30 implants at level 10. You | | should soon be able to selfcast Expertise Nanos which will help you. | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 10 Perk | Spiritual Master | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------------+ | STEP 3: TITLE LEVEL 2(Level 15-49) | +-------------------------------------+ Description: Very much happens these levels. Subway, Temple, Fun and fast XP hunting in SL, Implants, Armor, Nanos and so on. Take it easy and you will be fine. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#Start increasing your 4 Primary Nano skills so that you can cast | | Subconscious Guidance, Elusive Target, Healing Touch, Team Healing Touch, | | Corrosive Fists and so on. These are primary Nanos which you MUST be able | | to cast, the sooner the better. | | | |#When you pass level 20, try to get a good team into the Temple of Three | | Winds. These are things you should get at least: | | 1: Three of Enlighenment and if you want: Ape Fist of Khalum | | 2: A Nice Robe like Exarch Robe, or Guardian Tank Armor | | 3: Rockcrusher Gloves or Fist of Orion | | 4: Guardian Circuit Board | | 5: Other nice Temple Items | | | |#Somewhere within Title Level 2, you should focus on getting selfmade | | implants. QL75 implants should be decently equippable for most at least | | around Level 30. Try to ALWAYS keep your implants higher than your level. | | | |#Get a Nice Armor Set. Carbonum is nice. Very nice actually. Cheap too. | | Omni-Pol also does the trick at lower levels, while Flowers/Omni-Pol/CAS is | | more preferred when closing 40-50. | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 20 Perk | Save / Spiritual Master / Use it on any Perk you want | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 30 Perk | Acrobat | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 40 Perk | Spiritual Master 2 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +-------------------------------+ | 4: TITLE LEVEL 3(Level 50-99) | +-------------------------------+ Description: Starts very sweet, lots of IP the first 10-15 levels, but then it starts getting tough. The levels between 80-99 is by many called the hardest in the game, because you are sucked dry on IP and motivation is hard to find there. Stay in there and you should get past it. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#If you havent, clean the temple before 60. Now is a good time to camp for | | GTA, Dark Memories and other snacks. | | | |#If you can, try to cast both Vulnerability Seeker, Fleet Foot, Fists of the | | Maelstrom/Fists of the Polar Star, Greater Healing Touch and Greater Team | | Healing Touch. | | | |#You should have your QL125 Implants in somewhere on this Title Level. | | | |#Upgrade your Armor. AC starts to mean something now. You can even start | | thinking about low Tier 1. | | | |#Evades, Evades, Evades. Do not fall behind on Evades. | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 50 Perk | Kung Fu Master | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 60 Perk | Acrobat 2 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 70 Perk | Spiritual Master 3 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 80 Perk | Save it / Use it on anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 90 Perk | Save it / Use it on anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------+ | 5: TITLE LEVEL 4(Level 100-149) | +---------------------------------+ Description: YAY! The awesome levels, the levels where you start noticing how strong you are getting. Martial Artists tend to become very powerful these levels, and you get most of the end game nanos now. IP is MUCH better now. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#Now is the perfect time to go for Tier 1! If you havent, then you should | | really do it now. | | | |#Within this Title Level, you should(Must really) cast Reduce Inertia, | | Last Minute Adjustments, Fists of the Sorrowful Toad/Lightning Crane, | | Greater Team Restore Essence and Enlightened Aura of Healing. | | It is more or less expected of you do be able to cast these now. | | | |#With twinking you can cast Four Fists of Kali, Universal Vulnerability | | Compendium and Mark of Peril. Recommended, but don't worry if you can't do | | it until after 150. | | | |#Get your QL200 Implants/Symbiants in. Around level 120, you should be able | | to at least get in the QL200 Implants easily. | | | |#Get a nice backarmor like Ancient Container/Gamboling Master's Wear or | | similar. It helps. | | | |#If you can, try to grab some Dragon Pieces now that you can equip it. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 100 Perk | Acrobat 3 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 110 Perk | Spiritual Master 4 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 120 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 130 Perk | Spiritual Master 5 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 140 Perk | Acrobat 4 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------+ | 6: TITLE LEVEL 5(Level 150-189) | +---------------------------------+ Description: The First 15 levels or so are awesome. At 175 you can start getting Azure Armor too. Luckily, Title Level 5 is short, because all the good stuff comes at Title Level 6 :) I do not suggest ONLY doing hecklers, but doing missions too, to get tokens and experience from all kinds of gameplay. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#You should now cast ALL your Nanos, except for Mat Meta/Mat Crea Nanolines. | | | |#You should really get at least 400+ Tokens this far. The Tokenboard will | | help alot with all aspects of the gameplay. | | | |#Start maxing out skills you have left behind. | | | |#You should be using QL160 Tier 1 Armor, but as soon as you hit 175, you | | could consider starting to raid for Azure. | | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 150 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 160 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 170 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 180 Perk | Spiritual Master 6 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------+ | 7: TITLE LEVEL 6(Level 190-200) | +---------------------------------+ Description: Yay, once you hit Title Level 6, you can now equip most of the fat stuff in the game, Armed Forces Tank and Armor/Sentinels Armor, Heavy Notum Tanks, and so on. Very fun :D This is really the level where you start to see how your character is. If you haven't grown used to your character by now, you most likely won't :p +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#If there is any Nanos you haven't gotten yet, do it now. You should be | | ready for the levels to come. | | | |#Get the 1000 Tokenboard, unless you are neutral of course. | | | |#You should buy some Yutto NCU since they will help a ton. | | | |#Start hunting for Tier 2 so that you can get Tier 3 as soon as possible. | | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 190 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 200 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------+ | 8: TITLE LEVEL 6(Level 201-204) | +---------------------------------+ Description: Once you hit 201, you'll notice that you suddenly can increase your green skills with 25 Points, Blue with 20 and Dark Blue with 15 Points! I sure hope you have been saving your IP, because unless, things will become tight. Really Tight. But, if you have been increasing the right skills (You can max all the Primary and Secondary skills and most Third Skills apart from Weapons) you should have more than enough IP to spend some now. If you don't, you will get alot more from 205. Secondly, you will now get a perk point for every level! In the beginning you will quickly get some Shadowlevels if you have decent Faction, but unless you do, it will take some time. Thirdly, you won't get XP anymore, just SK. SK is based on Faction, so you have to kill Mobs of the opposite faction to gain more faction. More Faction means Faster SK. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Checkpoints | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |#Start working for Tier 3. It will be worth the time. | | | |#Upgrade with the highest Symbiants as possible now. | | | |#Get as much faction as possible as soon as possible, otherwise it will take | | a long time to level up | | | |#If you haven't already, get those Garden and Sanctuary Keys, at least up | | and til Penumbra so that you easily can travel back and forth. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 201 Perk | Spiritual Master 7 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 202 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 203 Perk | Spiritual Master 8 | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ | Level 204 Perk | Save / Use it on Anything | +-----------------+-----------------------------------------------------------+ +---------------------------------+ | 9: TITLE LEVEL 7(Level 205-220) | +---------------------------------+ Description: The End Game levels. From now on, all you can do is improve on your skills and build on what you know. You should be well aware of everything now, and if there are still things you don't know, I would really recommend signing up on the official forums to get further help, since it then mostly becomes a discussion of straying towards PvP or PvM. The LAST MA Unique Perk is used at 213, from there you can only use your perk points at whatever you want. You can now also raid in Pandemonium to get the stuff there, and also try to get hold of the new Blades of Boltar weapon. There's a lot to do, but at the same time, there's no really clear goals anymore. Good luck! ******************************************************************************* *** 13: Frequently Asked Questions [13FA] *** ******************************************************************************* This is a collection of many common questions being asked about Martial Artists on the board. If you have any questions you want answered, or feel free to send them to me, and I'll also be happy to add them here. Knowledge is power. Q: Does Parry and/or Riposte work? A: As it is now, live version 15.9, Parry and Riposte does not work. There have been various attempts to fix it, but none has been working very well, so until Funcom can find a good way to use these two skills, the only thing they are good for are using MA Special Attacks(Upon a Wave of Summer requires Riposte and Flower of Life requires Parry) and equipping items. Q: Careful in Battle or Disharmony? A: This is a hard question. There are no concrete answers to it, since its all up to what you prefer. However, as a general rule, if your primary focus is PvM, you should go with a maxed Disharmony, and if your primary focus is PvP you should go with Careful in Battle. The reason for this, is that Careful in Battle helps far more in PvP than Disharmony does, since Disharmony add another attack which triggers dual reflect shields against you, making it harder and more risky going up against Shield Professions which suddenly will cause you to harm yourself twice as much as normal when hitting. For PvM, Disharmony is better, as it adds a great deal of extra damage and it adds a chance for lifedrain when you attack. True, the Add All Def in PvM is quite nice, but the general feel is that Disharmony is the better choice for PvM. Q: Why does my damage suck compared to others on low level? A: Unlike other professions, MA`s cannot Over Equip their weapon. Our skill relates directly to the QL of our weapon, so whatever MA skill you have, decides the Damage, Crit and Speed. On lower levels, you are stuck using a weapon that is based on your current skill, unlike weapon professions which can get a wrangle, equip a higher weapon and be "ahead" of their level. In the beginning, MA`s will often fall behind because of this, when other professions can equip QL150 Weapons at level 60, but you are using the fists based on your skill. Don`t worry though, this turns around once you pass mid levels and start nearing high levels, when other professions are being stuck with their weapons for a long time and your skill continues to grow with each level, until you have among the best damage of any profession if you play right. Q: How Can I be more effective? A: There are several things you can do to increase your damage. Many have accused MA`s for being a "Press Q and sleep" profession, but that is as far from the truth as it can be. -The primary rule is to be active, and know your enemy. Learn what damage type is effective against the mob you are fighting. Learn what skills it use against you and what you can do to prevent it. -Use Temporary damage Buffs as often as you can. Use MA Special Attacks, Flurry of blows, equipment that adds to damage. -Time healing and perks to make sure you live longer, don`t use every single special you have when they are not needed, save them for when you need it. Its not wise to use Acrobat when you dont have aggro, then activate Flurry, get aggro and having to wait while Acrobat recharges while you have aggro. Instead, as long as Aggro is on someone else, let Acrobat be ready, and use Flurry. Once you get aggro, activate Acrobat. -In teams, unless you are intent on getting highest damage of all on the team, Save Instant Aggro Specials like Dimach until a weak profession gets damage or add, and nobody can calm. That way you can easily pull the add`s attention to you instead of the weaker ones. I can`t even count how many times I`ve saved lower level players who have managed to get aggro, by using a Heal+Dimach+Brawl+Flurry+UaWoS(to slow the mob down so that the weak can escape easier). ALWAYS think about your team mates before your own damage! Its not a race. Teamwork > Damage Lists. ******************************************************************************* *** 14: Great MA & AO Links [14LI] *** ******************************************************************************* +----------------------+ | Official Forum Links | +----------------------+ Tubarolean`s guide about how to make Tier 1 Armor: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=184294 Great guide by Breaku about how to twink into Tier 3 Pants as a Solitus on 160: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?t=322633 A Fast way to check the difference between Infantry and Support Symbiants: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=208106 Check this if you are unsure about the PvP Aspect of Martial Artists: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=147182 Great post that shows what damage types some Unique Mobs are weak against: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=232689 Read this if you want to learn how to use bows effeciently: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=219669 The biggest overview of Unique Mobs and the drops on Rubi-Ka: http://forums.anarchy-online.com/showthread.php?t=145591 +----------------+ | External Sites | +----------------+ Chronita`s Martial Artist Compendium http://users.adelphia.net/~chronita/index.htm AO Vault`s AO Guides AO Vault has the biggest collection of guides of any AO Page.
