Rules of the Game Controls Manager Mode Team Comparison Formations Player Styles Strategies and Tips Extras Frequently Asked Questions Contact Information Credits \\\\\\\\\\\\\ |INTRODUCTION| ///////////// Fifa 2006 is a game made by EA Sports. It is the next football game of the Fifa series. This game has perfect gameplay where you control almost everything, cross power, shot power, body blocking and more. This game also has better graphics then its predecessors and much more improvement from FIfa 2005. The option to use Off The Ball mode is gone in this game, which makes the game harder but it is still a good football game. In this game, your players will be more aggresive. Your defenders will not stay in their own half for the entire game, the midfielders can stray away from their positions to reach a cross or a through ball from someone. Your strikers are the same like the previous version. Every player in your team have potential to score, even your defenders! The entrance is just amazing improvement, kind of Winning Eleven entrance with the game showing each team's formation. The animation when you score or conceded is just amazing. The real spectacle of this game is not the gameplay, (Winning Eleven tops that) but the manager mode. You can sign sponsors which you can gain money to pay your players' salaries. You can also loan in players or loan out your players who are not playing. This will keep them happy and you won't need to pay their salaries. Unlike Fifa 2005, there's a contract alert. Your players will not stay with you forever, you will need to renew their contract when they almost expire. Changing Kit numbers is also a new feature in Fifa 06. Not to forget Team Chemistry. Team Chemistry is how good your team know each other and this will improve their game. \\\\\\\\\\\\ |LEGAL STUFF| //////////// This FAQ is copyrighted by FFX Madman. Minimum System Requirements: ---------------------------- 1.3 GHz Intel Pentium III or equivalent (Athlon/Duron/Celeron) 256 Megabytes of RAM (512 MB recommended) DirectX 9.0c Compatible 3D accelerated 32 MB video card or equivalent 380 MB free hard disk space DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card MS compatible mouse Keyboard Please note that 16 bit colour is not supported Required Operating Systems: -------------------------- Windows XP or Windows 2000 Note that Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME and Windows NT 4.0 are not supported. Required Software: ------------------ DirectX 9.0c Here's my specs. Microsoft Windows XP ACPI Uniprocessor PC 2.0 GHz Pentium 4 384 MB of RAM 64MB Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 37.1 GHZ Disc Space VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller MS Compatible Mouse and Keyboard. So, it's not the latest but its good enough to play the game. Thank god for that. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ |RULES OF THE GAME| ////////////////// Let's start with some basics. FOOTBALL is a 22 player game. ----------------------------- Football (soccer) consists of 22 players (well, official games) with 11 players in each team. One keeper with 10 outfield players in each team. FOOTBALL is a passing game -------------------------- Remember, the ball moves faster than the player. Passing the ball helps your team score! You need to SHOOT a BALL into the NET to win -------------------------------------------- By scoring goals more than you conceded will allow you to win Throw-in -------- When the ball goes out, the one who get to throw the ball in is the opposition of the side who last touched the ball. For example, if Cristiano Ronaldo (Man. United) touched the ball last, then Damien Duff (Chelsea) will get to do the throw-in. Fouls ----- Now, in this game, if you do a sliding tackle that did not hit the ball but hit the player who is bringing the ball that is a foul. If you use your hand to block the ball (in the game, you can't do it intentionally, just accidentally), that's a foul. The most obvious foul is when you tackle the guy from the back. Sure a yellow or even a red card! But, the referee would allow the advantage rule. Scroll down to read about it. Advantage Rule -------------- During some point of the game, well, almost every game, the referee would just leave a foul unattended. This is because of the advantage rule. The one who committed the foul will be safe while the one who is tackled will... you know. When you tackle and it will sure grant you a card, it is better to the opposition to retrieve the ball and your player safe. Same thing when the foul is committed against you. If you are tackled and the referee's picture is shown at the top left of the screen, advantage rule is engaged. If you managed to get the loose ball first, the foul will be left unattended and gives you a chance for a break. Beware, your player could suffer. Offside ------- This happens when a player is behind the defense line when the ball is played to him. The offside will only be given if the ball is played to him. I'll just draw this for you. + + + + + + # ---> # # -------># + + OFFSIDE!!!!! NOT OFFSIDE!!! The '+' symbol represents the defender while '#'representing your player. The arrow represents your pass. Besides this, you can use tactics to increase your chance of scoring. TACTICS ======= This is where we will see the different tactics for your team to use in the game. Thanks to hosh_hosh_2 and Jussi for their help here. Here are also my suggestions for a particular tactic. If you disagree, kindly send an e-mail to me and i'll post your suggestion on using the tactic to its best. To change the attacking tactics, you will need to press this numbers on the right of your keyboard. ______________ / -- \ 8 --> Counter-attack (CA) / ( CA ) \ / -- \ 6 --> Wingplay (WP) / -- -- \ |( MR ) ( WP )| 2 --> Box Overload (BO) \ -- -- / \ -- / 4 --> 3rd Man Release (MR) \ ( BO ) / \ -- / \____________/ Counter-attack """""""""""""" This tactic is useful after set pieces (especially corners) cause there won't be a lot of defenders defending. Your players will move forward fast to catch the opposition offguard. All you need to do is just pass accurately and trick the defenders. Wingplay """""""" This tactic is my favourite tactic. To use this tactic to the fullest, you will need to have a formation with wing backs or wingers. 4-4-2, 4-4-1-1, 4-1-2-1-2, etc is alright for this tactic. Your wingers and wingbacks will be ready to retrieve a pass and cross it in. After that, just head it in. Works well in World Class!! Box Overload """""""""""" Pushes more players into the oppositions box. Nice to use with wingplay. More players will be in the box to score from a cross. 3rd Man Release """"""""""""""" Usually when passing, there's two sides. The passer and the recipient. This tactics calls upon another sides, the third man. Of course you will need to be sharp to find the third player. It could be your striker, or left midfielder or even your defender. While defending, you will need to press Q and a particular number on the right of your keyboard. ______________ / -- \ 8 --> Pressing (PR) / ( PR ) \ / -- \ 6 --> Offiside Trap (OT) / -- -- \ |( FB ) ( OT )| 2 --> Zonal Defending (ZD) \ -- -- / \ -- / 4 --> Flat Back (FB) \ ( ZD ) / \ -- / \____________/ Pressing """""""" This tactic is useful but dangerous. This will move your players towards the player with the ball to take the ball away. There could be 2 against one or even 3 against one player. The bad thing about this tactic is that it opens a gap in your defence. Works wonders if you want to get the ball away from the person as quick as possible. Be warned about using this tactic. Offside trap """""""""""" This tactics moves your defenders to a straight line in front of the opposition strikers. This is my most least used tactic. Doesn't work well for me but if you trust your defenders to keep a straight line, try this out. For the best result, use this tactic with the flat back tactic. Zonal Defending """"""""""""""" Zonal defending is my most used defending tactic. The defenders will stay at their position unless you call them (pressing Q). Once they 'shooed' an opposition away, they will come back to their positions. I love this tactic!! Flat Back """"""""" This tactic would have to partner with the offside tactic. This will help your defenders to keep a straight line and thus, increasing the changes of u trapping the opposition using the offside rule. Thanks to Mario Gazzola for the tip. Thanks man!! \\\\\\\\\\\\\\ |GAME CONTROLS| ////////////// You can't play the game if you don't know the controls right, here's the controls for the keyboard. Q = Tactics Modifier W = Through Pass E = Sprint A = Lob / Sliding Tackle S = Pass D = Shoot / Conservative Tackle Z = Dummy Move/Cancel C = Pace Control TACTIC MODIFIER -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Honestly, I don't know how to use this. But, you can press Q + D when defending to call a second defender to stop the opponent from advancing with the ball. If you check 'My Fifa 06', and explore, you will see the tactics. Counterattack, Pressing and such. But, I never get to use them. While defending, this button will call a second defender to come and help you to take the ball. THROUGH PASS -+-+-+-+-+-+ I like to use this option. This key will pass in front of a player. This will give them space and able to score. SPRINT -+-+-+-+ Well, it lets your players run like previous Fifa games. When you are sprinting, its hard to control the ball so when you encounter a player who steal the ball, stop tapping or pressing E and use your d-pad. LOB/AGGRESIVE TACKLE -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Pressing this button when you are controlling the ball will lift the ball. How long you press it is how far and strong it will go. While defending, the selected player will do a sliding tackle to retrieve the ball. Don't tackle from the back! PASS -+-+-+-+ This button will allow the selected player to pass. Duh!! SHOOT -+-+-+ Now, this button is vital for your success. How long you press is how strong it will go. If you press this in your half, the selected player will do a clearance while in your opponent's half, shoot. When defending, this button will do a conservative tackle, safer tackle but you will need to do it in front of the player with the ball successfully take the ball. DUMMY MOVE/CANCEL -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Makes your player do some skill with his legs. When retrieving a pass, press this and the ball will go through his legs. Quite nice, but I never accomplish anything with it. PACE CONTROL -+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Controls your movement. Its like dribbling, but not forward just to the sides. This button is used when you are the only player up front. Use this button to gain time for your fellow players go up front to receive the ball. Use this button when retrieving a pass to control the ball to a halt. Other than this, there's more advanced techniques to be used. Fake moves +-+-+-+-+-+ To do a fake move, you will need to determine your move. If you want to pass, press S. If you want to shoot, press D. If you want to lob, press A. As soon as you pressed the button, quickly press Z. This will allow your player to fake a pass/shot/lob. If done correctly, you will be able to trick a player marking. If done correctly with a keeper, you could make the keeper jump to the wrong way and leaves his goal wide open for a goal. LOB PASS +-+-+-+-+ Press Q and W to lob the ball in front of the target player. This ball auto detects the player and you won't need the power bar. Sometimes, the ball can get so weak that you will give the ball away. This move is good when you want to pass a ball above a defender to give your target man chance to score. CHIP SHOT +-+-+-+-+ Press Q and D when you are one on one with the keeper. You will need to wait for the keeper to rush towards you. This will leave more space between the keeper and the goal. When he dives down to get the ball from your player's legs, quickly press the corresponding button to chip the ball above the keeper. You will need to time this correctly for it to work. You can also charge while holding the button to increase the height. DOUBLE PASS/1-2 PASSING +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Hold the Tactic modifier button (default: Q) and press S. This will pass to the closest player. The player who passed the ball will burst in front. You will control the player who received the ball before. Press W (through pass) to pass the ball back to the player who passed the ball to him. Look at this diagram. # / \ / * \ / \ + ------> + Legend ------ + ==> The first player (the guy who passes the ball firs * ==> The opposition's defender # ==> The second player (who receives the ball and passes the ball) --> ==> The way the first player will burst in front. / / ==> Path of pass / Thanks to Nadav Elovic for his superb tip!! SHIFT dribbling skills / First touch +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ This is where you can use your players' abilities in dribbling or tricking the opposition. I still need more help on this so if you know anything more, kindly send them to me. Thanks in advance. !!!NOTE!!! To use these moves, you need not to sprint and is adviced not to sprint. Side Dribbling ============== While not sprinting, press Shift and the particular player will cover the ball with his legs. This is useful when an opposition player comes from the side of the player. Sidestep ======== While not sprinting, press the side keys with the Shift to do a sidestep. The side keys are according to the direction your player is moving. Here is a diagram. /|\ The arrow shows the direction where your | player is looking at. So, the left and right | keys on your arrow keys are the side keys. O SIDE --|-- SIDE / \ O The arrow shows the direction where your SIDE --|-- SIDE player is looking at. So the left and right / \ keys on your arrow keys are the side keys. | | \|/ SIDE The arrow shows the direction where your O |\ player is looking at. So the up and down --|-- -----| | keys on your arrow keys are the side keys. / \ |/ SIDE SIDE The arrow shows the direction where your /| O player is looking at. So the up and down | |----- --|-- keys on your arrow keys are the side keys. \| / \ SIDE Pressing a particular side key makes the player move to that particular direction. So, if I press the left side key, the player will sidestep to the left. This move is useful when a player comes to you. Timed properly and your player will sidestep to a direction and the opposition player will miss you. FAST SPRINTING ============== You need to sprint to do this. When you sprint, press Shift and your player will push the ball forward and giving more space between the player and the ball, thus increasing the player's sprinting speed. Do this when no one is in front of you. @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ }{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}@ THE MANAGER MODE ||@ {}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{}{@ @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@ AH!! THE MANAGER MODE... THE BEST MANAGING SYSTEM IN FIFA (EXCLUDE FIFA AND TOTAL CLUB MANAGER) You will be welcomed with a passage, telling you about your 15 manager years. Anyway, just go and pick your looks and personal information. Now, you will need to pick your team. There are 6 regions to choose from. They are Region 1 - 6. Region 1 -------- FA Premier League Football League Champ Football League One Football League Two Region 2 -------- K-League Brazilian League Mexican League MLS Region 3 -------- Italian Serie A Italian Serie B Spanish Primera Spanish Primera Region 4 -------- French Division 1 French Division 2 German Bundesliga 1 German Bundesliga 2 Region 5 -------- Austrian Bundesliga Danish Superligaen Norwegian Tippleligaen Polish Ekstraklasa Swedish Allsvenskan Swiss Axpo Super League Region 6 -------- Belgian League Portuguese SuperLiga Scottish Premier Dutch Eredivisie Pick any region and pick a team you want. You can't use a 5-Star team when you start your career. However, you can use a 5-Star team but you will need to do an extra work. Just head to the 'EXTRAS' to find out. Now, you should see a laptop. Read both e-mails and click on advance. After you have done that, you will be asked to upgrade your staff with the available budget. The more money you spend on them, the better your players will improve throughout your 15 seasons in charge. Some staff will help in your club's future like the negotiator and the stadium manager. Now, let get to know who they are. STRIKER COACH """"""""""""" This coach concentrates on your strikers' improvement throughout the years. Spend on this staff to create a great striker. It is better if you have a striker with an average of 86 and above. Just have him in your team for a few seasons and you can have a much better striker, if you let him playa lot of course. When you start your career, this is not essential yet and I don't recommend you to upgrade this staff at the start of your career. MIDFIELDER COACH """"""""""""""" This coach concentrates on your midfielders' performance throughout your career. Midfielders are important when attacking. They usually are used to feed the ball to the strikers or even open up a gap in the opposition defense. They can also take a shot from outside the box or inside the box. Again, I don't recommend you to upgrade this staff at the start of your career. But, if you think you need to upgrade this staff, be my guest. DEFENSE COACH """"""""""""" This coach concentrates on your defender's growth during your period as a manager. Defenders are important in a football game or soccer to you Americans. You wouldn't want to get a lead but lost it and made the game equal again. You want to keep the lead or maybe make the gap bigger. Again, I don't recommend this staff yet but upgrade him if you want. GOALKEEPER COACH """""""""""""""" Goalkeepers are very important in a game of football. This is what this staff is for. Upgrading this staff will improve your goalkeeper. Again, don't recommend this staff yet NEGOTIATOR """""""""" Now, this staff is important. By upgrading this staff, you will be able to save money when bringing talents to the club. The better this staff is, the less money you need to bring a particular talent to your club. But, i don't recommend you to buy any players into the club at the start of your game. Upgrade this in the future. SCOUT """"" Upgrading this staff will increase the quality of your staff. If you don't want to waste your time to find a player from club to club, ask him to find you a great player. If you spend a lot of money to improve this staff, he will bring quality players to your club and you don't need to do anything. You just need to accept, that's all. Don't forget to spend money on this staff in the future. FITNESS COACH """"""""""""" Upgrading this staff will help your players recover from injury and fatigue. I recommend this upgrade. If your players aren't fit to play, why even you pay them. This staff is essential in the success of your club. STADIUM MANAGER """"""""""""""" Now this is where half of the money comes from. Your ticket sales. If you upgrade this staff, your stadium will look nicer and can fit in more supporters. More supporters means more money. Money, money, money. Sure it's expensive, but it's worth it in the future. If your other staff members are okay, just spend your money here ok. FURTHER NOTE :::::::::::: Staff upgrades like striker coach will help improve your players better if they play regularly for your team so let each player play in your team. Now, that's finished, you need to check the sponsors. Sponsors will well sponsor you each game, no matter you lose or win the game. But it you abandoned the game, you will not be given the money. Sponsors are essential in your career. Here are the details > Funding per game ---------------- This states how much money you receive per game. I think this is the most important thing to see before you select your sponsor. If they have the highest amount of funding, pick them! > Loyalty Bonus ------------- This states how much you get for being in the top half of your league until the season ends. > League Bonus ------------ This states how much you will get for winning the league. > Domestic Cup Bonus ------------------ This states how much you will get for getting your club into the final rounds of the domestic cup. > Extra Bonus ----------- This states how much you will get when you win the EFA or the EFC. Now, once you picked a sponsor, who are welcomed to the career central. ################ CAREER CENTRAL## ################ There are 6 choices you can pick from here. They are: -------------------- | NEXT MATCH | |--------------------| | OFFICE | |--------------------| | TEAM MANAGEMENT | |--------------------| | STATISTICS | |--------------------| | TRANSFER CENTRAL | |--------------------| | SAVE CAREER | -------------------- Now, we will look into them one by one. ---> NEXT MATCH ---> Play match ---------- Let's you play the game. You can only use your team and no other. ---> Visual Sim ---------- This option will see words on your screen telling you about the game. If your team is going down or you are bored, you can intervene and take control of the game. ---> Quick Sim --------- This option will show you the results screen. It's nice to plan your team lineup here. Put experienced players against big teams while let the bench warmers play against the small teams. It's all up to you. ---> Scouting -------- Here is where you can ask your scout to go scouting for new young players. The options here doesn't need to be explained, you know it when you see it. It is simple. To get a better player, you need to upgrade your scouts at staff upgrades. The longer you let your scouts scout, the better chance that he will find a better person. After matches, you could be prompted by your scout to ask you to sign his player but its up to you if you want to. ---> Staff Upgrades -------------- Its the same thing like before. ---> Manager History --------------- See your bio and achievements, others, just explore. Not so important. ---> TEAM MANAGEMENT ---> Squad ----- Now, here is where you can adjust your formation, lineup and captain. To pick the captain, select the player you want to be captain, then just wait until the *Assign Captaincy* appear at the bottom of the screen. You need to wait. If you want to change the formation, wait until the *Formation* appear at the bottom of the screen then click on the arrow beside it to change your formation. To change the lineup, just select one player and press enter and move to the player you want to change with. The others just explore. ---> Kick Takers ----------- Here you can pick your kick takers. To change the kick takers, select a current kick taker and press left or right to change the kick taker. Look at the right half of the screen to see your players. Only players inside your starting lineup will be selected. ---> Edit Kit Number --------------- Now this is new. You can change any player's kit number. Usually keepers are 1 and 23, usually but not compulsory. Midfielders can be 12, 16 or even 10 and 7. Strikers are usually 10, 9 or 11. Defenders are usually the smaller numbers like 2, 3 and 4. But there are no borders to any number, just put any players to any number you wish. ---> Player Contracts ---------------- Here, you can renew your player's contracts. Before renewing, save first. Then, aim for a smaller salary. If the player declines, increase the salary but make it less than the original salary. Saves money in the future. Check the morale. The higher his morale, the less money would he accept. ---> Contract Alerts --------------- Here is where you will be informed about any players returning to their clubs if you loan them out or loan them in. Players who will retire will also be mentioned here. If a player has only 1 year left in his contract, you guess it, here is where it shall be informed. At the end of the season, you will be informed about this. ---> Export Team ----------- Exports your team so that you can use your team in Kickoff. ---> STATISTICS ---> Leaderboard ----------- Here you can see who are the top ten scorers in your league, average goals per match and many more. ---> Player Stats ------------ Go here to see your players' and other teams' stats. See the amount of goals scored, amount of red and yellow cards and more. ---> League Standings ---------------- See your club's position and more numbers. You'll know. ---> Tournament information ---------------------- See tournament information that your club is currently in. ---> TRANSFER CENTRAL ---> Transfer Market --------------- Go here to check players who are currently on sale, available for loan or even check for a specific player you want to buy. Players with the blue head and torso symbol with the blue arrow are players for sale. Players wit the YELLOW head and torso symbol with a YELLOW arrow are players available for loan. After the season, they will go back to their club. YOu can also search for free agents by waiting for the search button to appear or search for a specific name buy clicking on the search by name arrow button at the bottom of the screen. You need to wait for it to appear. ---> Negotiation History ------------------- When you do anything in the transfer market (whether you fail or not getting the player) the information will be displayed here. ---> Club Player List ---------------- Here is where you can change your player's status in the transfer market. Click on the change status arrow button on the bottom of your screen and you will be given a few choices. For Sale - Obviously, lets you sell your players. Once you changed your player's status to this, you need to go through the next match before you can actually sell your players to another club. Once you gone through your match, you will be shown a window about the buyer. Accept it or decline it and hope for a better price. For Loan - Lets you loan your players. You need to finish your next match before you can loan them. The same window will appear. Free Agent - Free Agents are players that don't belong to any clubs. They can move from another club to another club just like that. Other clubs won't pay the transfer fee for these type of players. None - Keeps the player in the club. Don't forget to renew their contract in Player Contracts in Team Management when their contract almost expires or expires if you want to keep them. ---> Save Career ----------- Save's your career so that you can continue later on. EXTRA TIPS """""""""" 1. If you lose, fight the temptation to reload the game. It's okay to lose or draw. Makes it more competitive. 2. Loan out extra players. 3. Squad rotation is a must in a squad's success. You've got to let everyone play. 4. Positions are nothing!! Don't be trapped about putting a CAM into your 4-4-2 formation or any formation that does not have a position for a CAM. He can play CM too. Same like RWM can play at RM position too. The position shown by the game for each player is only his prefered position. It's entirely up to you where you want to put him. 5. Don't give up. If you are knockout of a particular tournament, there is always the next season. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ |TEAM COMPARISON| //////////////// We will look at the default lineup of every 5-Star team in this game. Note that the position of the starting players are according to their position in the formation not their preferred positions in the game. To see their preferred positions, you can as easily as see the position at the top section of the screen (next to their faces) as they are selected in the Squad section. =-=-=-=-=-= | Arsenal | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | FA Premier League | =-=-=-=-=-=-==-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- | Team Chemistry : 94 | Formation : 4 - 4 - 2 | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | Starting Lineup | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | POS | NAME | OVERALL | =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-= | GK | J. Some like 4-3-3 (Sir Alex), some like 4-4-2 (Arsene Wenger, actually a lot managers like this), 4-5-1 (Jose Mourinho), 4-1-2-1-2 (Felix Magath). So, let's dive in. 4-4-2 ====== + + + + + + + + + + + Well balanced. Enough players to feed your strikers. I always used this formation. Very easy to score from crosses. By the way, your central midfielders can feed the two strikers up front or just pass to the nearest winger for a cross. Kinda nice. Your midfielders will move more in front now. Not like Fifa 2005. 4-3-3 ====== + + + + + + + + + + + Sir Alex Ferguson likes to use this. I never understand why but now I know. Your LS and RS are like wingers and can deliver crosses. Other than that, they are flexible enough to score goals. Your ST (the middle striker) can like retrieve the ball from a clearance and go a through pass to either the LS or RS. Goals are sure coming. One thing I hate is the midfield. I can't control the midfield as well as 4-4-2. But, up to you to pick. 4-1-2-1-2 ========= + + + + + + + + + + + Ahh... the diamond formation. Provides extra defense with the CDM taking care back there. USe the CAM to feed the strikers or sneak a shot pass. The wingers are there to be used too. Use them to cross like the 4-4-2 formation. I tried this but I never sticked with it. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm lazy to use other formations. I'm a 4-4-2 guy right to the end. But if you have any comments or descriptions of other formations, feel free to send to me at ffxmadman2@hotmail.com !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! \\\\\\\\\\\\\\ |PLAYER STYLES| ////////////// Now, player styles are the ways the players play in real life. You can also use this to pick a player suitable for your club. I'm not sure if it helps the player plays better or what, cause I don't care. It's not how well they play, but how well I play. So, here's the information. Player styles can be checked by checking their bio. Icons are coloured with 3 different colours with are bronze, silver and gold. Gold icons means they are like masters of their styles and silver and bronze are lower rankings of that style. It's obvious. Attacking Wingers ================= Players with this styles are players which who like to dribble and do long runs towards a defender and good crossers. Usually positioned as LM, RM, LWM, RWM. The icon is a boot with a large wing. Defensive Midfielders ===================== Players with this styles are reliable when defending. Better tackling and uses their body to stop or block a shot. Kinda like a more midfield defender. The icon is a leg with a ball to the left. Midfield Mastro =============== Players with this style looks for ways to deliver a killer pass. These players can also challenge the keeper from way out. The icon is a shirt with the number 10 on it. Stopper ======= usually for defenders. They have good composure and very reliable as your defensive wall and can do a clearance anywhere too safe guard their goal. The icon is a player showing his palm. Clinical striker ================ Players with this style tend to confuse the opposition defenders with superb leg work and escaping their marking. The icon is a football boot with a 'sniper' target beside it. Target Man ========== Players with this style have excellent ball control and can deliver passes to make a scoring opportunity. The icon is a player with a 'sniper' target on his chest. Wingbacks ========= Players with this style can run up to offense and run back to defense when needed. Can be used to deliver crosses. The icon is a boot with a small wing. If you want to see the in-game description, go to 'My Fifa 06' -> Tips & Hints -> Player Styles \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ |STRATEGIES AND TIPS| //////////////////// Here, we shall see tips from me and also from other people. Defending tips ============== 1. Defending is easy if you know how. Now, when you defend, call a second defender to help you out. Press Q (default) to call another defender and press E (default) if the player started to run. In the lower difficulties like Amateur and Semi-Pro, you can easily defend by pressing Q + D and just wait. You will most likely get the ball. In Pro and World Class, don't use Q+D cause the opposition will twist and turn and makes me mad!! Just hold Q and try your best to ou tbest the player with the ball with sliding tackles when needed and tapping Sprint (E) when the player runs. 2. Now, if the player beaten the last defender and his sprinting all the way to the goal and is bound to score (or at least, a high chance to score), do a sliding tackle behind him to stop his run. So, you got a card but hey, it's worth it. Just don't tackle him inside the penalty box cause you'll give away a penalty. 3. In the same situation like above, you can bring your keeper by pressing W. The keeper will rush to the ball. Don't do it too early though. You will only put your goal exposed. 4. There's this wise saying, "To prevent is better than cure". Well, don't give away the ball too cheaply cause you're going to give the opposition a chance. I know... I too gave it cheaply when I first played the game and I hate it when the com tried to slow the game down. By giving away the ball cheaply, you're going to put pressure on yourself and makes it harder to obtain the ball. (I missed all my tackles and the opposition scored. He was there unchallenged cause all my players is on that particular player that always keep the ball!) 5. If you just stole the ball in your penalty box, it is wiser to clear it away cause the opposition could easily take the ball and shoot! 6. This tip is from megapronto """"""""""""""""""""""""""" When the opponent got a ball, especially in professional I notice a few things they would do. What I do is I sprint my player to the front of my opponent who got the ball and when I’m close I’ll stop sprinting and move closer to the opponent (just by using the moving button, the left right up down) and press D to get the ball of him. When I do this the opponent either move back to get some space and when he did this I follow him but I never get pass him always at the front of him and when I got the chance I move forward and press D to take the ball away or I tackle him (I usually don't want my player to get yellow or red card so I time this properly by tackling at the front but tackling when using this tactic gives them a chance to run pass your player which could be quite a trouble!) OR if the opponent pass the ball to another player I switch to another player closer to the opponent and do the same things! It gives them some pressure to get pass, especially if they sprint they are vulnerable, ha-ha! It works for me and i'm sure this could help a few beginners at this game!! 7. MARKING """"""" Marking means that a particular player will go everywhere where a player that he is assigned to mark. I suggest that every game, you ask your RB and LB to mark the LM and RM respectively. The computer tend to stretch the game to each wide man. Here's how to do it. A) During a match, press ESC and you will be shown a list of options. B) Select Man Marking C) Select your RB D) Select the opposition's LM/LF E) Do the same to your LB, and select the oppostion's RM/RF It's important to see the formation of the other team at the start of of the match. Remember, aim for the wide men. If it's 4-4-2, the wide men are LM and RM. If it is 4-3-3, the wide men are the LS and RS. If it's 4-2-1-2-1, the wide men are the LAM and RAM. You can ask your other players to mark other players that you think is essential. The most important people to mark are the opposition's wingers/wide men. Attacking tips ============== 1. When you are attacking, control the ball by pressing Z or C. Don't give the ball cheaply and keep the ball to yourself. Sometimes, it is best to keep the ball and press C to the back and press Z with D+Pad to another way. Once you see a player is free, pass the ball to him. 2. Don't be scared to shoot. If you want to shoot from a far range, go ahead. It's better to challenge the keeper than not to. Anyways, look at your shot bar and you only have a few seconds to put the level to the blue area of the shot bar. It's okay if you don't get it there. It is still considered as a shot. 3. When you are one on one with the keeper, the keeper will most likely rush forward to steal the ball. Now, move diagonally and just shoot a lower shot pass him when he's about to dive down to your legs. Here is a diagram. _ _ /| / | %%%%% / %%%%%/ %%%%% /* /* / ##### ##### ##### The percent block is the keeper while the # block is your player. So move straight then move diagonally and shoot at the * sign. You don't need to be exact. A through pass and a short pass into the goal is good enough if you're close enough. 4. You can also score at that situation by pressing Q+D. This will make a lob shot into the goal. Makes the keeper feel bad. You must time this properly cause the keeper will catch the ball in the air if you don't. 5. My favourite way, score from a cross. Give the ball to your wingers or anyone in the position to cross. Now, hold A until half the bar or 7/10 of the bar. A bit higher and it could reach the other winger instead of the centre. By the way, if it reached the other winger, there's still a chance to score. So, experiment around a bit. You can also press Q+W to deliver a lob pass when you're close to them. Once you delivered the cross, tap D or hold D and release and press again (that's what I did), to get a header. You can also just chest the ball and when it is in the air, press D to volley it into the goal. Be careful though, too near with the goalie, and you'll give the ball away. 6. Another great way is through passing. I like to do this with 4-3-3 but other formations are good enough. Here's a diagram with a 4-3-3 formation. + * __ /| + / * + + * Now, the '+'s are the defenders while '*'s are your strikers. Corners tips ============ 1. In Fifa 06, you can score corners from almost any situation. When you are in control of the kick taker, move the arrow a bit nearer to the center and hold A. Not too strong cause it will fly to the other half and you wouldn't want that to happen, do we? I've scored from the far post, center and even the near post. Even outside the box from a corner. Well actually, the keeper punched the ball away and the ball landed on my CM's feet so the goal is wide open. So, take the shot!! 2. You can also pass the ball to the nearest teammate. This player then can cross the ball into the box. Creates a scoring opportunity too. 3. Defending from corner sometimes based on luck and your defender's heading ability. Sometimes, the opposition will pass the ball to the nearest person instead of lobbing it to the center. Sometimes, he will pass blindly to your defender and all you've got to do is clear it away. If the ball is too close to the center and your defender is stupidly staying behind the player, press W to bring your keeper out. Properly done and the ball will be in his safe hands. Don't do this to often though. 4. The easiest way to defend is don't concede a corner. ;) Free kicks tips =============== One thing I hate about Fifa 06 is that they didn't put the targeting system like Fifa 2005's free kick. But, you've bought the game and you would want to score. Here's how. 1. If you are a right kicker and aiming for the right top corner, move the camera with your d-pad so that the ball is a bit to the right of the right post. Then, press down on your d-pad to increase the power and up on your d-pad to increase the height. Not too low or the defensive wall will block it and not to high or the ball will be too weak. That's how I aim. I never scored a free kick in World Class though. The keepers suddenly become so good. 2. While defending direct free kicks, press the left/right arrow keys to move your wall. I don't get it how to make your wall jump though. 3. Indirect free kicks can be used to score too. Now, in indirect free kicks, you need to pass the ball to another player. Now, this player would try to score or pass it to another player in a better position to try to score. Anyways, here's a diagram. __ + /| % / | + + / % + / % / + / / Now, the '+' are the defenders while the % are the strikers. This is just an example. It is not going to be exactly like this. Now the arrow is where you should be aiming at. Now, the higher lob power (A [default]), the longer it will go. You want it to reach somewhere the center of the crowd. You can try practice mode and try to find a way to score yourself. 4. Defending indirect free kicks are easy. If the ball comes to near, bring your keeper out. Most of the time, a clearing header from your defenders are enough to finish the threat. The computer can still surprise you, be warned. 5 This is a tip from Marcos """"""""""""""""""""""""" It is hard to score in Professional and World Class. The best way to try to score here is by hitting the bar before it goes it. Here's how to do it. The bar of shoot needs to arrives in blue bar,and needs to ajust angle. If your player is better with his right leg,and is in right side, adjust to right and up.If you player is best with left leg and is in left side, adjust to left and up. Its needs practice. I have used Adriano and Buffon, and was not so hard. To me, 38,7 m and 36,0 m, is easier. 6. If you want to curve the ball, hold Q (default) and shoot normally. If your player uses his left leg, the ball will curve to the right and vice versa. 7. Defending - Making your wall jump (by Stanley Ambrose) While controlling the wall during a freekick, press the lob botton (A:default) to make the wall jump after the kick taker has shot the ball. Penalties ========= 1. To score against the computer will need more luck than skill. The com will be able to save a shot that is aimed at part of the goal. Say it's the top corner, the com's keeper will be able to save it. Say it's the bottom corner, the outcome will be the same. EA did well in making it a realistic game and you would be able to score most of the time during a penalty. Just press your Directional Pad to the direction where you want the ball to be shot at and hold your shooting button. A power bar will appear and it is the same way to shoot normally in the game. Just hold the button until you reach the dark blue part of the bar to get the most out of your penalty. 2. To save a penalty, you will need a lot of luck. Press your sprinting button (Default: E) and your Tactics modifier button (Default:Q) and hold the D-Pad to the direction you want to dive to. There will be times when the com will just shoot straight down the middle. If that happens, all you should do is just press nothing so that your keeper will stay in the middle to block the shot. Thanks to A.Y.A.Z for this tip. Know another strategy? Don't keep it to yourself. Send it to me at ffxmadman2@hotmail.com and I'll try to post it here as soon a possible. \\\\\\\\\ EXTRAS | ///////// Here are some extra things. Use a 4 1/2 stars club and higher at the start of a career ----------------------------------------------------------- So, you wanna use a club higher than 4 stars for your career. You can. First, go to the main menu. Then, go to Team Management. Go to Squad and pick the team you want to use. Put the worse possible starting-11 players into the starting lineup. Then, check if the club is now a 4 or lower stars club. If it is, go to career mode and do the usual thing. Pick the club you changed the lineup and start managing that team! ****Original idea by Yuracokn0se in GameWinners.com**** By using this team at the start of your career, you will most likely be in debt cause your players' salaries are so high and your sponsor won't pay that much. At the start of your career, don't bother upgrading anything or spending on new players. Renew your player's contracts with smaller salaries. ****Original idea from Ozwald in GameWinners.com**** Now, there's two things you can do. Either loan out (or sell if you don't want them) your players who have high salaries. Most of them are your star players but you need to sacrifice them for your club's future. You can keep a minimum number of 18 outfield players. I'm a Manchester United fan myself and I used this trick to manage my fav club. Now, my experience is that Ruud Van Nistelrooy is the most expensive player in Man Utd. So, you know what I did? I loan him out. The second most expensive player is the defender, Rio Ferdinand. Well, I loan him out too. Then, I loan out Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. I'm not so sure if I loan anybody else... Then, I start to renew as much of my player's contract as I can. Here's my tips. Pick a player you want to renew his contract. It's better if the salary is 300+ so that we can put it down to somewhere lower. When you are renewing his contract, you've got to pick how many years you want to renew his contract. Now, the longer the time you renew his contract for, the more salary would he want. So, keep the contract length low maybe 2 or 3 years. If you can't, keep it to only 4 years while some players would only accept 5 years. Now, the current salary is to be divided twice. Then, offer the contract with half the current salary and keep note of the length of time you renewed his contract for. If he declined, reload your save and give a higher salary. This is an example if I wanna renew Rooney's contract. This is just an example so it is not accurate. I don't remember my negotiations with Rooney last time. CURRENT CONTRACT OFFERED CONTRACT ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ W. ROONEY W. ROONEY Period: 3 years ----> Period: 4 years ----> DECLINED Salary: 402 Salary: 201 Now, here's an example. I said that the salary is to be divided by two. If 402 is supposed to be divided by two, it will be 201. Unfortunately, sometimes the game don't give such accurate number so 202 or 204 is good enough. Now, I reload my save and give another offer. CURRENT CONTRACT OFFERED CONTRACT ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ W. ROONEY W. Rooney Period: 3 years ----> Period: 4 years ----> DECLINED Salary: 402 Salary: 244 Again the offer was declined. Now, you've got a target. He wants a salary ranging from 244 - 402. Now, we want to reach the lowest he would accept. Of course he won't tell you and you can't ask him either. Let's try again. CURRENT CONTRACT OFFERED CONTRACT ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ W. ROONEY W. Rooney Period: 3 years ----> Period: 4 years ----> ACCEPTED Salary: 402 Salary: 260 Ah, at last. As you can see, Rooney accepts a reduced salary at 260. So, the wanted salary range is between 244-260. Now, aim for a salary value of between the range. Now, reload your save again and reoffer a new contract. CURRENT CONTRACT OFFERED CONTRACT ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ W. ROONEY W. Rooney Period: 3 years ----> Period: 4 years ----> ACCEPTED Salary: 402 Salary: 252 YEAH!! Rooney accepts a much less salary now. Now, the range is 244-252. Reoffer for a less amount of salary. CURRENT CONTRACT OFFERED CONTRACT ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ W. ROONEY W. Rooney Period: 3 years ----> Period: 4 years ----> DECLINED Salary: 402 Salary: 248 Owhh!! Rooney declines. Now, the range is 248-252. That's not so expensive right? Reoffer!! CURRENT CONTRACT OFFERED CONTRACT ++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++++++++ W. ROONEY W. Rooney Period: 3 years ----> Period: 4 years ----> ACCEPTED Salary: 402 Salary: 250 YEAH!! ROONEY ACCEPTS!! Now, that's better. This is the lowest amount of salary he will accept. If you pick 248, he will decline and an amount of salary of 252 will be accepted too but we're aiming for the lowest salary. So, this is what you can do to reduce the amount of salary of your players. Keep note of the renewal costs and the period of contract. The longer the contract is offered for, the more would the player want for his salary. Increase injuries ----------------- You can call me crazy but I want my players to get injured. Hehe. It's more realistic that way. Here's a trick to increase injury chances in the game. ********************************************************************** *USE WITH YOUR OWN RISK. PC users like me can improve FIFA 06 from a variety of points. Kits, balls, boots, faces, rooster, gameplay and a lot more. There are two sites that I usually go for this patches. They are: Fifa MRA --> www.fira-mra.com Soccergaming --> downloads.soccergaming.com There's a great patch from Fifa MRA that I want you guys to try it out. Look for Career Exansion Patch 0.12 (CEP 0.12). This is a great patch. Any problems, ask OckHAM about it. You will get his e-mail from the site!! Any problems are not my responsibility. Good luck!! \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ |FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS| /////////////////////////// 1. How many 5-Star teams are there in this game? 11 clubs. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Lyon, PSG, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus. 2. Why is it so hard to score from free kicks? It's not hard in Amateur and Semi-Pro. You need more practise. Even myself hit the bar a lot of time. In Pro and World Class, the keeper is just too good to be true, but have faith, with luck, you can still score. 3. Do you like the logo? No, its too simple. But, the game is not simple. 4. What's your favourite team? National = Germany (England close behind) Club = Manchester United (Once I'm a red, I'm a red for life!!) 5. I experienced lagging in the screen, is this normal? It's okay I think. I read that XBox users too experienced lagging in some areas of the game. I think that's okay because console games are not like PC games. The games follow the console requirements not the console follows the game requirements like us. If the lagging is too bad, increase your RAM and Processor speed. The easiest solution is to lessen the programs running while playing. 6. I can't seem to use my USB keyboard to play. What should I do? Try installing a patch from EA. You can get them from http://fifa06.ea.com. 7. How do I change the ticket prices? Firstly, you must play a home game. Then, go to Next Match and click on the ticket price section to change the level to low, medium or high. 8. How to change the commentator's language from English to Spanish? In XBOX, TURN ON THE X BOX WITH NO GAME AT ALL.. THEN GO TO LANGUAGE AND CHANGE IT FROM ENGLISH TO SPANISH THEN TURN IT OFF , THEN PUT THE GAME ON AND IT WILL START IN SPANISH. (Thanks to Chris Jaquez) 9. How to use the multiplayer? This you will need to ask someone who is better in this like an EA technician or something. If you know step by step instructions, please kindly tell and I'll get it posted. 10. I like interesting moves in football games. i like FIFA WC 2002 most because of this. in FIFA 2005 there are special moves: press "shift"+"back" then "d" quick this makes a powerful shoot etc... I didn't find moves like this in FIFA 06. If you know, can you send them to me? Actually, I'm still experimenting here and there. Anyone, please help!! 11. My job security is getting lesser and lesser. What should I do? There are three possible solutions. a. Don't stay in debt. Your budget must not be in negative. b. Win games!!! c. When you got a chance to answer something (laptop), answering a good answer will allow your job security to increase. Answer a bad one and your job security will decrease. 12. I've got more strategies than your faq. Should I send them to you? Yeah, sure. I don't force you or anything like that. Just send me your strategy (if you want) at ffxmadman2@hotmail.com. I'll try to post it as soon as possible. 13. How do you delete a saved game for the PC version? Just go to My Documents --> Fifa 06 --> Your saved file folder It should be like B. Manager - (The name of the file). Then, just delete it. It is that simple. 14. How can I edit how the computer plays in consoles? You cAN'T!! PC gamers can edit the way the computer plays by installing specific patches from FIFA MRA (www.fifa-mra.com) or downloads.soccergaming.com. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ CONTACT INFORMATION| //////////////////// E-Mail : ffxmadman2@hotmail.com Any tips, suggestions, complaints questions or anything about the game, kindly send me an e-mail to my address.
