CTF Strategies (and Recognition) ================================================================================ 1. All-Out Rush -- (By: sk8boarder87) At the start of the game, tell your teammates (through the team comm. link) to quickly rush and attack the opposing base. Have two players run inside and grab the flag, one guarding the other. Everyone else kills and distracts as many of the enemies as possible. Meanwhile have the two flag carriers hop into a Warthog, preferably the one with a machine gun, if available. One takes the wheel and the other the mounted gun on back. Have the other teammates defend the Banshees from the enemies, as they are a major threat to a Warthog. Return to your base with the flag, and score an easy point. If your players are still attacking, and doing well, repeat the rush again and again. If not, follow another strategy or defend your base. This strategy can be done later on, but is harder and usually only works at the beginning of the game when the enemy is less prepared. 2. Warthog Blockade -- (By: Poisoned Dreams) At the beginning of the game, park one Warthog on top of the enemies' green teleport location in the middle of Blood Gulch. This is to make it harder for your enemies to capture your flag, disallowing them teleportation closer to your base. Run into your opponents' base, grab the flag, and tell one of your teammates to drive the Warthog that's on the teleport forward a bit and off the teleporter. Tell him to sit there until you go up the opposing base's ramp and through the teleport's green doorway. You will appear right behing the Warthog, so get on the gun (or missile launcher) and head back the little way to your base. Deposit the flag and win a point for your team. This strategy will usually work at any time during the game that you have a Warthog on the opposing team's teleporter and a fellow player to move it and drive you back to your base. 3. Banshee Decoy -- (By: Meteorainer) At the start of the game, have a teammate fly the Banshee in circles around the enemy base, taking out as many opponents as possible. Put three players in a Warthog and sneak along the wall to the other team's base. While the enemies are hiding from the Banshee and trying to take it down. Two guys (not the driver) get off the Warthog, run inside, steal the flag, and return to the Warthog. Set up snipers in the hills to take out any enemies that notice the Warthog, and escape to your base with the flag, scoring a point for your team. If the enemy has a Banshee too (most likely), then have a dogfight over the enemy base, distracting the enemy Banshee from the Warthog. If it breaks off to attack the Warthog, have your Banshee easily blast him in the unprotected back and take him down. Usually getting the flag will attract the enemies (mostly because the big warning flashes on the screen), so have plenty of snipers and good Banshee cover ready to stop them from flipping the Warthog. 4. Victory Lap -- (By: Fear the Clown) Get three people on a Warthog and one in a Banshee. The Banshee circles the enemy base, distracting and killing any opponents they can. The loaded Warthog drives along the side near the wall and stops briefly at the back entrance of the enemy base. The player in the "shotgun" position jumps out and enters the base. The Warthog then does one full lap around the circular base killing anyone in the way, and then returns to the drop-off point. The flag carrier hops on the mounted gun and the original gunner goes to "shotgun." This allows two players to shoot, and the Warthog returns along the wall to your base. The Banshee follows the Warthog, guarding it from any attackers. The flag carrier hops out and scores a point for your team. This is a good strategy because you can do it at any time in the game when your team has a Warthog and a banshee. 5. Rocket Surprise -- (By: Keelo2000) This strategy is strictly a defensive one, but nonetheless effective. Stay on top of the base, and wait until a Warthog with only one enemy arrives. When the opponent leaves the vehicle and goes inside your base, jump down and into the mounted rocket launcher on the back (a mounted gun works too, but is not as effective). The enemy soldier will most likely (90% of the time) run back to his Warthog. Once he is within sight, fire a rocket (or gun) right down his throat, jump out, and return the flag. Although this is seldom possible, you and your victim will get a good laugh out of it. 6. Gotta Catch 'em All! -- (By: Mulas) In the beginning of the game, focus all advancing efforts on collecting the vehicles. Half of them will already be at your base, so assign half of your team to attack, steal the enemy vehicles, and return them to your base, and the other half to guard your vehicles. When all the available vehicles (6 Warthogs and 2 Banshees) are at your base, it will be nearly impossible for the opposing team to get your flag. Soon after your team has all of them, launch a brutal assault on the enemy base, and it should be fairly easy to get the flag in all the confusion. Just make sure the flag carrier doesn't get run over by his own teammates. Once the Warthog with the flag is heading back to base, have all remaining vehicles follow and protect the flag, especially from snipers and rockets. Take the flag back to your base to gain the easy point. 7. Hidden Threat -- (By: ZDard) Wait until a couple minutes have gone past, or whenever your ready. Sneak along through one of the side tunnels until you get to the end. The best weapons for this are the pistol and a rocket launcher, but it works fine without them. Wait until there are few people on top of the enemy base and sprint down the ledge and up onto their base. Hide behind the enemy teleporter until the top is clear and a Warthog is nearby. Hop down into the base, get the flag, and jump into the driver's seat of the Warthog. Drive as fast as you can back to your base and deposit the flag to earn a point for yourself. Note that there is a high chance that the other team will spot you from the ground near their base, so having a rocket launcher equipped greatly increases your odds of performing this dare-devil strategy. 8. Unexpected Exit -- (By: RatMan423) This strategy is two-prong, and works well when there isn't a good defense. First, get in a Warthog and drive to the enemy base, so the driver's-side door is facing the door on the back of the base. Try to run up the side ramp and into the tunnel without being seen. Odds are the enemy will forget about the Warthog in the back, since the threat of flag capture isn't emminent anymore. Second, wait for a light defense at the enemy base, and make sure your Warthog is still there. Jump down from the tunnel and go in through the top of the base, first tossing in a few grenades to clear out any defenses inside. Grab the flag, and then jump in your Warthog. Since the enemy didn't see you come in with a vehicle, they won't expecting you to leave with a vehicle. Works like a charm. A tip for base defense: Never leave spare vehicles near your base. Always move them a good distance away so the enemy can't hop in one and drive away with your flag. Also make sure no Banshees are near your base. 9. Five Man Blitz -- (By: RatMan423) As the name suggests, you will need at least five players for this strategy. Have one get a fuel rod gun, one get a sniper rifle, one get a Warthog, one jump into the Warthog for the ride, and one get a Banshee. The two with a sniper rifle and fuel rod gun go up through the teleport and to the ledge overlooking the enemy base. The Banshee flyer hovers over the enemy base, distracting anyone around there. The Warthog driver takes the other rider to the enemy teleport station in the middle of the map, parking the 'Hog on top of it. The rider hops out and runs through the tunnel, grabs the flamethrower and overshield, and heads for the enemy base, incinerating anyone he meets. He proceeds up the ramp and into the base via the roof, receiving cover from the sniper and fuel rod gun on the ledge and the distracting Banshee. The Warthog driver, upon hearing the warning that the opponents' flag has been taken, edges forward and off the teleport. The person with the flag runs around the base and up the ramp, sprinting through the teleport to appear next to the Warthog. He hops in the back and easily returns to his base with the flag. This works well because the enemies will have a hard time concentrating on a sniper, fuel rod gun, and Banshee simultaneously. 10. Tele-Camping -- (By: Clark Beyer) This works best on Blood Gulch, and make sure you're on the Red Team. When you start, run over to Blue's ground teleporter, located somewhere in the middle of the field. Stand on top of it, facing Red Base. When your screen flashes white, it means someone is trying to get through the teleporter, so immediately back up and do a melee attack. Whoever walks through will be hit by your melee and DIE INSTANTLY! Use this technique to stop Blue soldiers from going to your base. I've scored many kills by doing this, but be warned: the opposing team tends to call you names, like a "camper." ================================================================================ IV.
