Introduction [Itrdn] | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ Recently, the distribution rights for Psychonauts defaulted from Majesco to Double Fine. In celebration, Double Fine released an update to the Steam version enabling achievements and a port for Mac players. This is, hopefully, a good sign for those of us waiting for a Psychonauts 2. In the meantime, we get an excuse to replay this great game and possibly find things we never have before (I know I did). So I wrote this guide to help those having trouble finding those more obscure achievements, since some of them are only available for a very short time (see Made Man). Without further ado... _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | 04. Usage [Usge4] | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is not written as a walkthrough for the game itself, and as such, I have assumed you know what you need to about the mechanics of play and have probably already been through most, if not all the levels at least once before. Each of the sections reflects how most achievements are earned. Most are straightforward, and the section most of you are looking for is probably Miscellaneous Achievements. If an achievement is missable, it is noted in that achievement's description. You can find them quickly by pressing Ctrl+F and looking for "MISSABLE" (without the quotes). _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | 05. Terms and Guidelines [TrmGd] | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ These terms you might find peppered throughout the guide and may confuse you if you don't quite understand what I'm talking about: 1. Point of no return - This happens at the top of Thorney Towers Asylum after you rescue Milla and Sasha. When you free Lili from the chair, a completely new autosave is made. You can return to the game before the point of no return by loading the other autosave. 2. Lake Titicaca - It lies between Bolivia and Peru. _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | 06. Achievements [0Achv] | | | ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ This is pretty much a straightforward breakdown of how to get each achievement. It's all pretty self-explanatory. +=============================================================================+ | | | A) Story Achievements [SAchv] | | | +=============================================================================+ None of these achievements are missable. Just completing the listed section of the story will unlock it. 01. Last Chance to Chicken Out (Complete Basic Braining) 02. A Victory for Good Taste (Complete Sasha's Shooting Gallery) 03. Rolling Rock Star (Complete Milla's Dance Party) 04. For Insurance Reasons (Complete Lungfishopolis) 05. Time to Deliver the Milk (Complete The Milkman Conspiracy) 06. You're All So Kind (Complete Gloria's Theater) 07. Thanks for All the Snails (Complete Waterloos World) 08. I always Loved You More (Complete Black Velvetopia) 09. Height of Insanity (Complete the Asylum) 10. I Thought That Was Unbeatable! (Complete Meat Circus) +=============================================================================+ | | | B) Rank Achievements [RAchv] | | | +=============================================================================+ These achievements are somewhat MISSABLE. The most important thing to do is to make a sweep of all the areas outside of people's minds before the point of no return and make sure you've gathered everything (PSI Markers, PSI Cards, Scavenger Hunt items) before you get stuck in the mental realm (which happens when you free Lili at the top of the Thorney Towers Asylum). Also, make sure you've turned in the scavenger hunt items since this is not denoted anywhere in your journal, but gives you 8 ranks. As for the stuff in the mental realm that earns you ranks, those can be collected at any time (even after you fight the end boss, you can reload a save to be put at the end of Meat Circus). As for the elusive rank 101, you need to complete the punching minigame in Basic Braining - The Cannon) several times until the game is no longer available. 11. Junior PSI Cadet (Achieve Rank 20) 12. Regular PSI Cadet (Achieve Rank 40) 13. Advanced PSI Cadet (Achieve Rank 60) 14. Super PSI Cadet (Achieve Rank 80) 15. Math is Hard (Achieve Rank 101) +=============================================================================+ | | | C) Collection Achievements [CAchv] | | | +=============================================================================+ This is where things get interesting. All of these achievements require you to find items in the mental realm and real world. If anything is missable, I will denote it in the description with a friendly, all-caps MISSABLE. I'm not going to list the locations of any items here, since you can already find that information readily on GameFAQs in any of the pertinent guides: http://www.gamefaqs.com/pc/922157-psychonauts/faqs 16. Happy Bags (Sort all Emotional Baggage) - Every mind has 5 emotional bags to sort. In order to do so, you must find the matching tag for each bag and bring it to that bag. You can see which tags and bags you have found in each mind by looking at the second in your journal. To quickly see if you have sorted all the emotional baggage in a mind, look at the door for that realm in the Collective Unconscious. If the baggage icon next to that door is lit up, you have sorted all the baggage. 17. No More Secrets (Crack all Vaults) - Every mind has one or two vaults to find and crack ope using your mental fist. The only mind with a single vault is Meat Circus. You can see how many vaults you have cracked in your stats page in the journal menu. You can also see if you have cracked all the vaults in a mental realm by looking at the door to that realm in the Collective Unconscious and seeing if the vault icon next to it is lit up. 18. Figgy Piggy (Gather all Figments) - This is a tough one as there are thousands of figments. Every mind has a set number of them. Rather than list the thousands of places you can find them, I am going to refer you to GameFAQs where there are several figment guides already (see above) The ones by Syonyx and IUG13 are quite detailed and should let you find any figments you may missing. 19. They Should Totally Sell Those (Earn all Merit Badges) - This one comes as you complete levels in the game, since you have to get all the merit badges to complete the game. 20. They Call me the Hunter (Redeem all 16 Scavenger Hunt Items) - MISSABLE: The scavenger hunt items can only be found in the real world, so this achievement is unattainable after the point of no return (freeing Lili in the Thorney Towers Asylum). Also, you have to talk to Ranger Cruller in the Wilderness and GPC area after finding all the items to get this achievement. 21. I'm Gonna Live Forever (Find all Golden Helmets) - MISSABLE: The golden helmets increase your projection layer depth (extra lives, pretty much). All the golden helmets can be found in mental realms, and all but one can be collected at any time. The only one that can be missed is in Black Velvetopia. Dingo Inflagrante gives it to you after the dog successfully paints the advertisement across the street from his apartment. If you help Edgar finish his card tower before collecting this golden helmet from Dingo, you have missed your chance. Syonyx's guide at GameFAQs has a list of the golden powerup locations if you need help finding the others (see link above). 22. No Solid Food for Six Hours (Re-brain the Children) - MISSABLE: You need to find all the brain jars in the Thorney Towers Asylum and break them open to get the kids' brains. Then bring them back to Ford Cruller in his sanctuary to put the brains back in the kids' heads. Since this takes place in the real world, you have to do it before the point of no return. +=============================================================================+ | | | D) Miscellaneous Achievements [MAchv] | | | +=============================================================================+ These achievements have to do with seeing random scenes around camp or in the mental realms or doing something that is completely unnecessary to the overall completion of the game. Most are missable, and some are available for a VERY limited time. 23. Look at Those Pansies! (Find Edgar's Secret Garden) - Inside Black Velvetopia, on the other side of the gate next to the Collie artist (you need to go through the sewers to get there the first time), there is a hook for paintings. Put the Vine Painting from the Dalmation artist on this hook and climb over to a ledge. From there, jump down the alley to find the secret garden where shamed wrestlers end up. 24. I'm Sure She's Over It (Uncover Milla's Secret) - Inside Milla's Dance Party, in the first vertical section, there is a point near the top where you drift across the room on a horizontal current. Look down from here until you see a balcony in the wall with an open door on it. Float down to this door and go through. Open the toy chest in this room and jump in it. 25. I Think They Were Impressed (Introduce all Camp Kids to Mr. Pokeylope) - MISSABLE: Close to the point of no return, you save Mr. Pokeylope, a turtle, from Dr. Loboto's lab. He becomes an item in your pack. If you approach Sheegor at the top of Thorney Towers with him in your pack, the game continues, and you lose Mr. Pokeylope. Before this happens, take him to every kid in camp (they have to have been rebrained). Note, you will not be able to find Benny and Mikhail will not comment on the turtle, but you will still get the achievement from the rest. 26. Self Aware (See yourself through the eyes of many others) - Use Clairvoyance on a lot of different things. You can use it on major NPCs or enemies or minor characters. Anybody who is able to look at your character is fine. You will eventually get this (took me about 50 times). 27. Victory Tour (Revisit all brains after completion) - Simply re-enter each brain using the Collective Unconscious or finding the person and using the Psycho-Portal on them again after completing the main objectives inside their head. Meat Circus does not count. 28. Mmm... Bacon! (Use the bacon. A lot.) - Once Ford Cruller gives you the bacon, leave his sanctuary and use it about 10-20 times. 29. I LOVE PUNCHING! (Complete the Punchy Target mini-game) - In Basic Braining, you need to complete the punching minigame in the second section until the palm smash button is no longer active. This also gives you a secret rank up (allowing you to get to rank 101). There are really no pointers other than return to the center after each hit, and pay attention. Having a controller makes this much easier since the keyboard can get a little confusing when targets are popping up fast. 30. Wolpaw Says Thanks (Hear Vernon's Ghost Story) - MISSABLE: After completing Milla's Dance Party, go to the TV room in the lodge to find Dogen, Kitty, Franke and Vernon. The former three are brainless, but that doesn't stop Vernon's need for storytelling. Stay in the room and listen to him until this avhievement unlocks. If you re-enter the Brain Tumbler experiment after learning Levitation, you have missed your chance. 31. Made Man (Witness Maloof's Transformation) - MISSABLE: This is possibly the easiest achievement to miss. After completing Sasha's Shooting Gallery, go to the parking lot and talk to Maloof to see a scene. If you re-enter the Brain Tumbler experiment after learning PSI Blasts, you have missed your chance. 32. Maybe It's the Hair (Spy on Bobby's love life) - MISSABLE: After completing Milla's Dance Party, go to the Wilderness and GPC are to find Chloe and Nils. Talk to them to see a scene. If you re-enter the Brain Tumbler experiment after learning Levitation, you have missed your chance. 33. Stump Speech (Give the Coach's speech on the stump) - MISSABLE: In the Campfire area, go to where the opening scene takes place, and keep pressing your use button until Raz has recited the entire speech. You must do this before the point of no return. 34. Camp Gossip (Read many bulletin board messages) - MISSABLE: Go to any bulletin board (you can find them near the parking lot or on the beach), and keep pressing your use button until this achievement unlocks. You must do this before the point of no return. 35. A Slice of History (Discover the secret history of Whispering Rock) - MISSABLE: Go to the giant tree cross-section in the parking lot and keep pressing your use key until this achievement unlocks. You must do this before the point of no return. _____________________________________________________________________________ | | | 07.
