INTRODUCTION **************** Baseball fans, welcome to All-Star Baseball 2003. This year we've got a terrific line up of features that make this our best game ever. There's a great Trivia game, where you can test your baseball knowledge, and the new Player Cards recreates the fun and excitement of trading baseball cards. What else is new? You can create an expansion club, complete with logo and choose what city, stadium and league they'll play in. And there's a fun new Franchise feature that lets you select a favorite team and play with them over several seasons, seeing their fortunes and players change over time. Of course, we still have plenty of the great on-field action you've come to expect, like theHome Run Derby, Season and Playoff modes, and tons of off the field managementinput, too, including creating your own players. You've got all the tools ittakes to make a run at the World Series and have a great time doing it! See you in the post season! -Derek Jeter (that was from manual) ******************** III.Knowing the game ******************** This is a note from the makers Throughout this booklet (or guide) reference is made to common baseball terms and situations. If your fielding is no good then it can make the game a pain in the but. Let’s start off with the basics. When the balls hit the camera moves to where it’s being hit. At the same moment the player closest to the ball is highlighted. You can dive for the ball or try to catch it. If it’s a rolling ball then pick it up and throw it at one of the bases. If you rush the pass there is a chance the ball will fly over the guys head. If you feel it’s too hard to field by yourself you can get some help by the game. If you press pause fielding you can switch all of your fielders to the CPU. Make sure you just keep the pitcher on Player one. Now when you exit out all you have to do is pitch the ball and the CPU will do the fieldwork for you. This is much easier then doing the field all by yourself. You can also jump. So if the ball is a little bit over your head you can probably catch it if you jump. Remember only do that if it’s a little bit over your head. You can also stop home runs to. If it’s barely going to go past the fence then run all the way back to the edge of the fence and jump. There is a good chance you’ll catch it and save some runs. Try diving also. If the ball is just out of your reach and is about to fall dive for it. This should help you out real well. B. Batting Strategy Batting is also another big part in your game. You must have good batting or else you will score no points. Lets start off with the basics. You can move your guy in the box forward, backward, right, or left. I suggest moving him back because then the guy has enough react time to hit the ball. There are two types of hitting. Contact hit and power hit. Using the contact one you have more of a chance of hitting it but it won’t get that far. Using the power hit you have less of a chance of hitting hit but more of a chance of smacking it out of the park or deep outfield. Every batter has a little sideways triangle showing where their hitting range is. Now if your guy has a small triangle then make sure you keep it on contact since he stinks at hitting. If your guy has a big triangle then use the power button and if it’s dead on it will go out the park. Some examples are your pitcher. His triangle will be small because he stinks at hitting so you should leave that on the contact hit. If you want a big hit then choose Mike Piazza’s his triangle is huge and he hits home runs very well. If it’s in the middle then you decide. Also if you would like to move up the players try a bunt. There is a 50% chance you’ll get out and a 50% chance you’ll get on first. NOTE only use this when you guy is on first or second. If he’s on third and starts running he may get out at home because that would be the CPU’s first instinct. You can also use pinch hitters to hit for your pitcher. Your pitcher stinks at batting no matter how much you don’t want him to. So and easy way to fix this is to go into the roster select pinch hitter and just switch him with you pitcher. Now you have a good hitter in replace of your pitcher. Try out the batting practice or the home run derby. They should help you with your hitting skills a lot. C. Pitching Strategy Don’t play by the rules try to be cheap. After you pick out your pitch right before he throws the ball press all the directional buttons and the ball will go away from where you first pitched it. The guy will swing and should totally miss the ball. Another thing don’t always use the fastball. Use the slider and the change up to your advantage. They can help out a ton. Don’t pith the ball directly over the plate. That’s like giving the ball to them. It’s so easy to hit the ball when it’s smack dab over the plate. Try to throw it on the outside or inside corners. Throw it low through it high you have all of these things to your advantage. **************** VII. HINTS & TIPS **************** Make good use of the batting target. Angle the target DOWN to hit a ground ball, and tilt it UP for a ball in the air. Remember that the wide part of the triangle represents the sweet spot of the bat. Line them up and right and you'll be crushing the ball! On the Controller Select screen, you can switch team uniforms by pressing L1 or R1 + UP or DOWN on the DIRECTIONAL BUTTONS Use Future Throws to make quick, seamless plays. The future throw buttons must be pressed before a batted ball is fielded. Future throws can also be used to field bunts, turn double plays, make relay throws, and play balls hit off of the outfield wall Defensive positioning can prevent runs if you use it wisely. Even with the Defensive Position option turned on, you can still override the CPU decisions Guessing the pitch type will affect the size of the contact icon. Guessing the pitch location will affect the size of the sweet spot. A hitter's batting target will be affected by the opposing pitcher's handedness. For some hitters, the difference will be extreme, while other hitters will have no difference at all. Some bench players may be more effective against certain pitches than the regular starter Drag bunts can be an effective way to get runners on base. Sacrifice bunts should be used to advance a runner to the next base, sacrificing the out for the extra base. Use this strategy if a particularly weak hitter is at the plate. Use Easy Batting if you prefer not to use a batting target. When manipulating a team's pitching staff in the Set Pitching Staff screen, starters may be used as relievers and vice versa though the results may vary. Raising and lowering a Created Player's attributes will affect the stat lines that are generated. When drafting a team, utility infielders (UT) are good late round selections because of their versatility. They can play any infield or outfield position without penalty. Corner infielders (CI) can play first base or third base, middle infielders (MI) play shortstop or second base, and infielders (IF) can play all four infield positions. Check the Free Agent List to see if any of those players can help out your team. Keep in mind that you must drop a player in order to pick one up. WHOS THE BEST TEAM TO PICK ****************************** Well the best two teams to pick would either be the New York Yankees or the New York Mets. The best team out of both of them would be the Yankees. But that would be the best regular team. If your looking for the best team ever that is probably the legend team. The only way that this is kind of cheap though is that it has all the best players ever. Some other good teams you could try would be the AL Stars and the NL Stars. ************ XI. Cheats ************ Here are some cheats that you can use in the game. Code Menu At the controller select screen press L1 to get to the ''Cheat'' option where you active any cheats you have acquired. Contributed By: terramagra These codes were found at gamefaqs.com ************************************* XII. FREQUENT ANSWERED QUESTIONS ************************************* ----------------- Q: Who is the best team A: The best team in the whole game would be the Austin Dingers. ----------------- Q: I’ve won the game now what do I do A: You have some different options. You can retry the game with the same team or you can beat it with other teams. ----------------- Q: What happens at the end of the game A: After you win the World Series the screen says congratulations and you can re start using a different team or the same team. ----------------- Q: I’m having trouble beating the computer what can I do to make it easier? A: If you press pause then go to field positioning click on the players and change it to CPU. But leave the pitcher on player 1. The CPU will then do all the fielding while you do the pitching. This should make it much easier. ------------------ ************************** XIV.
