Story Mode ------------- The AND 1 Mix Tape Tour (aka Story Mode) makes up the bulk of the single player experience. Players create a custom baller with very limited stats, play Open Runs, Side Games, and Main Runs, and earn cash to increase those stats. Each game won unlocks a series of AND 1 clothes in the store, as well as new moves, breakdowns, courts, players, and videos. ============ 3.01. Eyetoy ============ PS2 users with an EyeToy can add their face to the game. Note that this takes some playing around with to get any sort of satisfactory result. Make sure that you are close to the camera, have adequate lighting, and can tweak the rectangle sufficiently. Note that you can also find pictures on the internet and point the camera at your monitor to get those faces in too! =============================== 3.02. Created Baller Attributes =============================== There are three body types for your baller, but they don't really affect your player's attributes. The following attributes are in the game: - Power: Affects your baller's ability to back down opponents in the paint and shove players down. - Speed: Affects your baller's speed. - Stamina: Determines how quickly the turbo meter depletes while sprinting with R1. - Ball Handling: Improves your baller's ability to hang on to the ball during I BALL moves. - Passing: Affects your baller's ability to complete passes. - Shot Accuracy: Determines how often your baller will make baskets within his range. - Shot Range: Determines your baller's shooting range from the key and beyond. - Dunking: Affects how often your player will dunk vs. layup. A higher dunking attribute will unlock more difficult dunks. - Hops: Affects how high your baller jumps. Hops is a useful skill for ballers who want to specialize in blocking, rebounding, or dunking. - Defensive Agility: Improves your baller's ability to stay on his feet during ankle breakers. - Rebounding: Affects your baller's ability to get rebounds. - Blocks: Affects your baller's ability to block shots. - Steals: Affects your baller's ability to steal the ball. - Free Throws: Affects the speed of free throw meter. - Clutch: Determines how much of an attribute boost your player will get during clutch time. Every attribute typically starts at 50%, though they may be higher or lower depending on your chosen height and weight. If you aren't sure what to spend your initial $500 on, you can press Square to bring up the template options: - Dunker: The aerial artist. - Trickster: The sleight of ball specialist. - Defensive Specialist: The Guru of D. - All-Around Baller: 'Nuff said. - Big Man: The enforcer of physical play. - Shooter: The ballistics expert. From experience, though, you'll probably want to beef up your shot accuracy and range skills fairly early, as well as your steals, speed, and blocks. Anything under 70% is considered pretty weak (and the system is quite unforgiving for 55% and under), so expect to miss ridiculously easy layups unless you focus on shooting. Beefing up dunking will unlock 3 levels of difficult dunks, all performed with R1 + Circle. You won't be able to dunk at all unless you add some points to this skill. ========================== 3.03 - City 1 - Linden, NJ ========================== Ah, Linden, New Jersey, the home of AND 1 Streetball. After the intro cutscene, your player challenges his friend Sy to a game of 1 on 1 to learn the ropes. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.031 - Side Game 1 - Getting Your Feet Wet +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER vs. Sy Type: 1 on 1 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 3X Running I BALL baskets Unlocks: $50, Professor I BALL #1, Clothing This game is really hard if you're unfamiliar with the controls, but once you get the hang of things, it's pretty easy. First focus on completing the three running I BALL moves (just move with the left stick and flick the right stick while moving) and scoring baskets. Once you complete the goals, just make sure you get Sy's rebounds (he misses outside shots a lot) or steal the ball from him and DIVE for the loose ball. If you fall behind in points, break Sy's ankles a bunch of times to earn a mic and do a Breakdown or go on fire to catch up. The game's to 11, so it should be done quickly. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.032 - Open Run 1 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 3 minute halves Goals: 15,000 respect points Unlocks: Clothing New players might not win this the first few times, but that's okay, you actually don't need to win Open Runs, just impress the crowd enough by earning 15,000 respect points. The quickest way to do this is to break opponents' ankles (1,000 points each time) and earn a mic. Pull off a breakdown move, and you get an instant 10,000 respect points. Beat this side game and you'll see Half Man Half Amazing give you a wristband. Lose, and see him yell at you. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.033 - Side Game 2 - Breakin' Ankles +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER & Hometown Kid vs. Fathertime & Larry Legend Type: 2 on 2 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 3X Anklebreakers Unlocks: $50, Hypnotizer I BALL #1, Clothing The point of this side game is to teach players how to break ankles, which becomes critical in later games. Practice with the tutorial if you're having trouble. It's just a matter of getting near an opponent, remaining stationary, then moving the sticks simultaneously. The quickest way to do an anklebreaker is to do two Level 2 moves, followed by a Level 3, or: Left stick + Right stick simultaneously in one direction wait for the move to finish, then: Left stick + Right stick simultaneously in another direction wait for the move to finish, then hold R1, and: Left stick + Right stick simultaneously in another direction If you do it right, the defender will fall every time. Just break three ankles quickly and do a breakdown to get ahead in points if needed to win this side game. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.033 - Main Run 1 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers vs. AND 1 Players Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 5 minute halves Goals: 25,000 respect points Unlocks: $100, Clothing, St. Mark's Park Night Court Wow, your first game against the AND 1 players. The AND 1 guys are much tougher than the Open Run players, and will tend to do a lot more tricks and alley oops against you. Don't panic, though, just keep breaking ankles and performing breakdowns until you hit your 25,000 respect point requirement, then maintain your lead and win. Beat the Main Run and you'll see Main Event give you a congratulation speech, followed by your character receiving a text-message phone and having to carry luggage. Lose, and Main Event yells at you. NOTE ABOUT TEXT MESSAGES: After every game from here on out, you will receive a series of text messages from your phone. You can read these in the Messages section of the Tour Menu. ============================================ 3.04 - City 2 - Harlem, NY - Kingdome Courts ============================================ On your next stop, you will visit the famous Kingdome Courts in Harlem, site of many streetball tournaments and high competition. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.041 - Side Game 3 - Pharmacist’s Prescription +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER vs. Pharmacist Type: 1 on 1 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 2X Steals Unlocks: $100, Da Bounce I BALL #1, Clothing, Pharmacist Video, Pharmacist's Breakdown moves After watching a rude wakeup call cutscene, you have to face one of AND 1's newer players, Pharmacist. He's small and quick, and tough to steal the ball from, especially if you haven't boosted your steal stats enough. If this is the case, your best bet is to break his ankles enough to earn a mic and go on fire. This boosts not only your offensive stats, but also your defense, and it should be easier to steal while on fire. Just make sure to time it right - Pharmacist tends to do Level 3's a lot to try to break your ankles. If you see this happening, back off and come back to try to steal. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.042 - Open Run 2 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 3 minute halves Goals: 15,000 respect points Unlocks: Clothing Use the same methods that let you win Open Run 1. Break ankles, do breakdowns, and earn your 15,000 points. Beat this side game and you'll see Half Man Half Amazing congratulate you again. Lose, and see him yell at you. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.043 - Side Game 4 - Breakin’ Down the Breakdown +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Fathertime vs. Main Event and Prime Objective Type: 2 on 2 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 1X Breakdown Unlocks: $100, Hot Sauce I BALL #1, Clothing, Main Event Video, Main Event's Breakdown moves Main Event and Prime Objective challenge you to a little 2 on 2 action. Keep breaking ankles until you earn a Mic Checka, then position yourself on the court so that one of the special Breakdown move names appear. Press R1 and R2, and you'll do a Breakdown, worth 3 points in a half court game. You can also try doing alley oops with your teammate if he's positioned near the basket by pressing L2 + X. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.044 - Main Run 2 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers vs. AND 1 Players Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 5 minute halves Goals: 25,000 respect points Unlocks: $200, Clothing, Kingdome Court Night Court More of the same, only this time the AND 1 players are different. As usual, keep breaking ankles and performing breakdowns until you hit your 25,000 respect point requirement, then maintain your lead and win. Note: This is the game where your nickname will change to one of 100 random nicknames that Duke Tango knows. You'll get your name at the start of the second half of Main Run 2, and will see it changed on your character. If you don't like this name, restart the game and play to the second half again, and you'll get a new one. Once you beat the Main Run, you're stuck with the name, so you'd better learn to like it! Beat the Main Run and you'll get a cutscene showing AO talking about the next stop, Philly. Lose, and Main Event will kick you off the bus. ===================================================== 3.05 - City 3 - Philadelphia, PA - Connie Mack Courts ===================================================== Connie Mack in Philly is next, home of AO. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.051 - Side Game 5 - Da Mack +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER, Escalade, AO vs. Jarrett Kearse, Paul Curry, White Chocolate Type: 3 on 3 Court: Full Game: 11 pts Goals: 2X Alley Oops Unlocks: $150, Clownin' I BALL #1, Clothing, AO Video, AO's Breakdown moves This is your first 3 on 3 full court game, and the goal is to get 2 alley oops. It's harder since there are less teammates on the court, but a good technique is to position your dribbler near the basket, then pass to the outside and quickly press L2 + X. Hopefully your original dribbler is still in position to do the alley oop dunk. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.052 - Open Run 3 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 3 minute halves Goals: 20,000 respect points Unlocks: Clothing You have to get a bit more respect in this game to advance, but it still shouldn't be too hard if you break ankles and do breakdowns. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.053 - Side Game 6 - Shackfest +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER, Problem Child, White Chocolate vs. Baby Shack, Spinmaster, AO Type: 3 on 3 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 2X Blocks Unlocks: $150, Dizzy I BALL #1, Clothing, Baby Shack Video, Baby Shack's Breakdown moves This 3 on 3 half court game might get a bit crowded. Blocking is a tricky skill to master (especially if your custom baller has a low attribute) so it's best to use Problem Child or White Chocolate to block the AND 1 guys. Blocking dunks is easier if you wait for them to come in from the side. Just time it right and you should be able to stop them. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.054 - Main Run 3 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers vs. AND 1 Players Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 5 minute halves Goals: 30,000 respect points Unlocks: $300, Clothing, Connie Mack Night Court More of the same, only this time the AND 1 players are different. As usual, keep breaking ankles and performing breakdowns until you hit your 30,000 respect point requirement, then maintain your lead and win. Beat the Main Run and you'll get a cutscene showing Go Get It talking about the next stop, Chicago, where he'll teach you how AND 1 crashes the court. Quickly earn a mic, get on fire, and make a basket to beat the requirement for this side game. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.062 - Open Run 4 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 3 minute halves Goals: 20,000 respect points Unlocks: Clothing Same respect requirement as the last city. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.064 - Main Run 4 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers vs. AND 1 Players Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 5 minute halves Goals: 30,000 respect points Unlocks: $350, Clothing, Merrill Park Night Court More of the same, only this time the AND 1 players are different. As usual, keep breaking ankles and performing breakdowns until you hit your 30,000 respect point requirement, then maintain your lead and win. Beat the Main Run and you'll get a cutscene showing you getting awarded a doll, which you have to carry everywhere you go, similar to what Professor had to go through in Season 2 of the Mix Tape Tour. Lose, and Main Event will kick you off the bus. =========================================== 3.07 - City 5 - Oakland, CA - Mosswood Park =========================================== Next stop is Oaktown, and the legendary Mosswood court where the Golden State Warriors play. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.071 - Side Game 9 - Oopin' it Up ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER, D.O., Spyda vs. High Octane, Main Event, Shane Type: 3 on 3 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 2X Self Alley Oops Unlocks: $250, Professor I BALL #2, Clothing, High Octane Video, High Octane's Breakdown moves Look, it's Shane the Dribbling Machine playing along with Main Event. The only requirement in this side game is doing 2 Self Alley Oops, which you perform by getting near the perimeter of the basket and holding L2 while pressing Circle. Self Alley Oops don't get blocked too often, so you shouldn't have much of a problem. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.072 - Open Run 5 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 3 minute halves Goals: 25,000 respect points Unlocks: Clothing A little more respect is needed in this game, but it's still the same. The best trick is to control a teammate and position him under the basket while on offense, then pass to the outside and throw up a brick. Immediately switch to the closest player and try to get the rebound. Occasionally you can get a defensive rebound from the AI, but they rarely shoot outside shots that they miss. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++ 3.074 - Main Run 5 ++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER and Open Run Ballers vs. AND 1 Players Type: 5 on 5 Court: Full Game: Two 5 minute halves Goals: 35,000 respect points Unlocks: $400, Clothing, Shane Character, Mosswood Night Court More of the same, only this time the AND 1 players are different. You have to block two shots AND beat Half Man and Helicopter. Luckily you have 15 points to play with. The best strategy is to hold the L1 button on defense to be permanently in defensive shuffle mode. This will let you more easily angle yourself to block Helicopter or Half Man's dunks. If you're really having trouble, try adding more to your baller's blocking attribute or go on fire, since it boosts your offense and defense stats. Win the game after meeting the requirement to advance. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 3.082 - Side Game 12 - Getting’ Sik Wit It ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Players: PLAYER vs. Sik Wit It Type: 1 on 1 Court: Half Game: 11 pts Goals: 2X Grab steals Unlocks: $300, Clothing, Hot Sauce I BALL #2, Sik Wit It Video, Sik Wit It's Breakdown moves What, no Open Run? Looks like there's another side game first. Sik does a lot of anklebreaker moves, and grabbing the ball from him can be tough. Again, hold the L1 button while on defense to remain in defensive shuffle mode, and keep trying to steal grab when he completes one of his moves. If the siren sounds, back off for a second then return to try the grab again. If your skills are low, go on fire and take advantage of your boosted defensive stats. Frequently Asked Questions ------------------------------ How do I break ankles? ---------------------- Play through the tutorial to help with the I BALL moves. Needless to say, they take getting used to. The best method is to hold the right stick, then hold the left stick, then hold the R1 button. It takes practice with the timing, but once you get the hang of it, you can break ankles pretty quickly. You can also change directions in mid move to mix things up. How do I do a breakdown? ------------------------ You have to have a mic checka earned and position yourself on the court so that the Breakdown move name text appears. Press R1 + R2 and you'll do the breakdown. How do I do a custom breakdown? ------------------------------- You have to activate the custom breakdown move set before playing the game. If you're doing a pickup or quick game, move up and down from the controller selection screen to choose your breakdown set. In the Mix Tape Tour mode, go to My Baller, and move down to Move Lists. Move right and left to select a breakdown set. In the game, you'll have to earn a mic and find your breakdown spot on the court. --------- 6. Credit --------- Credit goes to me! ------------------ 7.
