Copyright Information & Disclaimer ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I. VERSION HISTORY ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 0.5 - Changed my FAQ template to fit the US version of Beatmania. Unless you have somehow hacked my computer, you shouldn't see this update. 0.7 - Added game mode information. Guide is about 40% done. 0.8 - Added option mode information. Guide is about 50% done. 0.9 - All song info added. Guide is about 60% done. 1.0a - Song lists completed, about 40% of the info is filled in. This will probably be the first released version, as the guide is essentially complete. Guide is about 80% done. 1.0b - The songlists now have about 70% of their info filled in. Added the first five Beatmania mode expert courses. This is the first version to be posted on GameFAQs. Guide is about 90% done. 1.0c - The guide is now 95% done. Clarified what Sudden does, since people on the forums were asking, and greatly shortened the Options Mode section. Added Double mode notecounts for Beatmania mode songs. Changed the Clear section, because clears and combos are dichotomous in this game, unlike the original Beatmania IIDX series. 1.0d - Added user-submitted changes and clarifications. 1.1 - Removed Double Beginner notecount spaces, because they don't exist. Also removed Single Beginner notecount spaces, because VJ Army will not support them. The FAQ is now 99% done. 1.5 - I have unlocked Another, so all the Another notecounts are up. I also re-added the Beginner notecounts. The FAQ is complete, but this is not the final version - I'm still accepting any reader input, and I'm waiting for Konami's Internet Ranking to open. 1.6 - Still waiting on Konami IR. Added some reader-suggested changes. 1.7 - Major update - corrected a major error with the grading system. Also consolidated sections III.B. and III.C. of the FAQ into a single section, and split Clears and Combos off into its own section (the new III.C.). Contact me at coredesat@outphase.com with any questions, comments, additions, or suggestions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ II. IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT CONTROLLERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This guide assumes you have the Konami Beatmania IIDX controller (either the original controller or the arcade-style controller). If you bought the BEATMANIA BUNDLE ($65 at most stores), you should have one, and you can skip this section. If for some reason you don't have a controller, or need another one, then this is the section for you. And before anyone asks, no, do not get the Rave Discman. It is a piece of trash, and is incompatible with normal function in any way. It's cheap for a reason. You can buy as many as you want and try to make your own working controller, but this is a laughably bad idea and you're advised to get a normal controller as soon as you can. A. Konami Original Controller ----------------------------- The Konami Original Controller (or KOC) is the normal Beatmania IIDX controller. It consists of a turntable and a keyboard that is easily reversible - just slide it out and flip it around. The controller is also very easy to maintain. There are two versions - the US version, and the Japanese version. If you want the original Japanese version of the controller, then your best bets are Play-Asia or eBay. Be prepared to pay an arm and a leg (and possibly your first-born, depending on who you get a controller from) for shipping, however. The Japanese controllers can be found for $60 to $90 plus shipping. The Japanese controllers have keys with plastic plungers that do tend to stick from time to time, but careful modification can eliminate the risk of that happening. The US controller comes with the aforementioned Beatmania Bundle, so no extra effort is needed. The US controller has a rounded end (and for some reason has that foot pedal socket...), and is lighter than the Japanese controller. The US controller's keys are also spring-loaded, which means they shouldn't stick. However, the turntable is quite tight, and it doesn't spin quite as freely as the Japanese controller - some quick work with a screwdriver will fix this. The US controller is not currently available outside of the Beatmania Bundle. B. Arcade Style Controllers --------------------------- If you've played in the arcade and would like to have a controller similar to the one on the arcade machine, I highly recommend an arcade style controller. You have several options here, but be prepared to pay not only an arm and a leg, but also your first-born and quite possibly your left kidney. First, we have the Konami Arcade Style Controller. This is the official controller, and it's easy maintenance with a reversible keypad like the Konami Original Controller (although you need a screwdriver here). The keys don't stick as often, and are spaced the same way they are on an arcade console. The turntable is also much larger than on the KOC. Also, two Konami ASCs can be linked together for doubles play. Unfortunately, the only way you can get one at the moment is to import it (I recommend Play-Asia), and that will run you around 400 bucks plus shipping (and the shipping is expensive, as these things weigh a ton compared to the KOC). Closer to home, there's also the Desktop Arcade ASC. This controller is less expensive than the Konami ASC, but it's just as durable and highly customizable. You can choose different colors or even artwork to decorate your controller, and you can even get keys that light up - something that even the Konami ASC, in all its arcade-style goodness, cannot boast. The keyboard is not reversible by default, but you can choose to get this as an option (ASCs must be like cars - there are so many options, but alas you cannot get air conditioning or power windows). A DASC will run you $225 plus shipping (OR get a special doubles setup for $420), and if you want an ASC, this is highly recommended unless the DASC is for some reason not available (which is sadly often), you absolutely want the Konami controller, or you have so much money on hand that you can afford to part with 400 bucks. There are other options in addition to these. You can even build your own controller if you are so inclined - and you don't even have to humiliate yourself by using the Rave Discman for parts! For more info, visit your local Bemani community today! Oh, and Desktop Arcade can be found at www.desktoparcade.com. Play-Asia is located at www.play-asia.com for your importing needs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ III. BEATMANIA IIDX BASICS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A. Gameplay Basics & the Groove Gauge ------------------------------------- GAMEPLAY BASICS The concept of Beatmania is simple enough to explain, but deceptively hard to actually get up and do. There are eight (or six) lanes on the screen, and white, black, or red lines (notes) scroll down it as the song plays. At the bottom of these lanes is a red line, and a stretched out diagram of your controller. The object of the game is to hit the corresponding keys as the small lines reach the big red line. When you see a red note, scratch the turntable in either direction (it doesn't matter which). When you hit a note, you'll get judged in one of five ways: Perfect (also known as "Just Great"), Great, Good, Bad, or Poor. These have greater meaning, as discussed later in section III.B, but here's their basic meaning: Perfect - Best possible accuracy. You nailed that note. Great - You hit the note just a tiny bit too early or too late. Good - You hit the note slightly earlier or later. Bad - You hit the note way too late or too early. These are fairly hard to get, but why would you want to? Poor - You hit the note extremely early or late, hit the wrong key, or you didn't hit the key at all. You can also get poors by accidentally hitting notes twice, but these won't hurt you too much. The game also keeps track of your current "combo". Perfects, Greats, and Goods will add to your combo; Bads and Poors will reset your combo to 0. Oh, by the way, there are songs with yellow areas called Free Scratch Zones, where you can scratch as little or as much as you want. If you're only interested in your EX Score (see section III.C), you can ignore these areas, as they don't count as notes. THE GROOVE GAUGE The key to progressing through the game is the Groove Gauge - that funny- looking bar at the bottom of the screen. It starts at 22%, and goes up or down as you play. Different accuracies increase or decrease your groove gauge at different rates. Perfects, Greats, and Goods increase your gauge; Bads and Poors decrease it. To clear a song and be able to move on, you have to get it to 80% or higher (that red area on the right). The gauge cannot drop below 2% in Game or Free Mode, so don't worry about failing out in the middle of the song (but you'd better get it back to 80% before the song ends). If your gauge drops to 0% in Expert Mode, you fail out immediately and the game ends. If the game ends in this way, you are ineligible for Internet Ranking. Sorry. Just give the course another try and you'll eventually clear it. B. The Grading System --------------------- After each song, you're judged on your accuracy and given a score, also known as the "money score". I have no idea why this is, as you get no actual money for clearing songs. Or maybe Konami is trying to tell you that you owe them? However, money scores are not used to determine your grade - your EX Score is. Your EX Score is based on the number of Perfects and Greats you get. The highest possible EX score is twice the number of notes in the song. Perfect: 2 points Great: 1 point Good, Bad, Poor: 0 points The grading system is as follows: AAA - Greater than 7/9 of highest possible EX score AA - Greater than 6/9 and less than 7/9 of highest possible EX score A - Greater than 5/9 and less than 6/9 of highest possible EX score B - Greater than 4/9 and less than 5/9 of highest possible EX score C - Greater than 3/9 and less than 4/9 of highest possible EX score D - Greater than 2/9 and less than 3/9 of highest possible EX score E - Greater than 1/9 and less than 2/9 of highest possible EX score F - Less than 1/9 of highest possible EX score. You practically have to just sit there and do nothing to earn an F. Note that if you get a score that's exactly on one of the cutoffs, you'll receive the next highest grade (so if you get 7/9 of the highest possible EX score, you will receive an AAA, etc.). In the original Beatmania IIDX series, the grading system is slightly more strict. It takes 8/9 of the highest possible EX score to get an AAA, 7/9 to get an AA, and so on. BONUSES In the original Beatmania IIDX series, there were a variety of bonuses you could earn for doing certain things. This holds true here, as well, but the bonuses seem to be harder to get, and they don't always appear. Note that these only apply to your money score - you won't see these in Expert Mode. Border Bonus: 5730 points. You get this bonus if you finished the song with your groove gauge at exactly 80%. Perfect Bonus: 4620 points. Awarded if you get all Perfects on a song. Extra poors do not count. Great Bonus: 3110 points. Awarded if you get all Perfects and Greats on a song. Extra poors do not count. There may be more bonuses - contact me if you find any and I will credit you and list them in the FAQ. My e-mail address is in section I of the FAQ. C. Clears and Combos -------------------- CLEARS You can clear a song in several different ways (listed from worst to best): Easy Clear: You cleared the song with Easy. Clear: You cleared the song without Easy or Challenge, and without getting a full combo. Challenge Clear: You cleared the song with Challenge. COMBOS Unlike the original series, where the game would include combos on the list of clears, this game distinguishes between clears and combos. There are three different things that will appear in the "combo" box on the Music Select screen: Nothing: You didn't get a full/perfect combo. Full Combo: You got a full combo (extra poors don't count). Perfect: You got a perfect combo (all Perfects and Greats). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ IV. GAME MODES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A. Game Mode ------------ Game Mode is similar to Arcade Mode in the original Beatmania IIDX series. When you select Game Mode, you'll come to a screen with two options: - Beatmania: This is 5key mode. Ignore those two keys on the far right for the songs in this mode. This is good for beginners, but some of the songs in this mode can be tough. - Beatmania IIDX: This is 7key mode - you're using the whole controller here. The songs in this mode are generally more challenging than the ones in Beatmania mode. The songs in this mode have four difficulties: Beginner, Normal, Hyper, and Another. The Anothers have to be unlocked, so truck on over to section IX for more info on that. Beatmania and Beatmania IIDX have different sets of songs, but some songs are in both modes. For a full listing of all the songs, their difficulties, and their notecounts, check out section VI of the FAQ. Whichever game mode you choose, you're then presented with these options: - Single: This is a one-player game, played on the left side of the screen. If you're used to the right side...well, unfortunately, you're out of luck. - Double: This is also a one-player game, but you use both controllers. The songs in this mode have different notecharts than in Single mode. - Battle: This is a two-player game where players compete against each other. New scores won't be saved. After you choose your desired options, you finally get to select a song and your desired modifiers (press Start to bring up the menu). You can't choose from all the songs on each stage, but each stage you clear adds more songs to the menu. It is not currently known if there is a special Extra Stage and One More Extra Stage in this mode. Contact me if you find one before I do (see section I of the FAQ). B. Practice Mode ---------------- Just starting out in IIDX? Go here to learn how to play! Although if you read section III of the FAQ and/or your instruction manual, you shouldn't have to come here. In fact, I highly recommend that you don't come here - it's easier to go to Game Mode and play some songs on Beginner or 5keys mode to get used to the game. If you insist on playing this mode, then the game will let you choose from one of three tutorials. Only the first one is available when you start, and clearing the tutorial (a rating of BAD is generally not considered a clear) will unlock the other two. Again, this mode isn't very helpful, and you're advised to just dive into the game and play some of the easier songs, or play songs on Training Mode. Modifiers can't be used in this mode, which is another reason not to use it. C. Free Mode ------------ Free Mode is like Game Mode, but without the extra breaks. You can play for as long as you want here, in either Beatmania or Beatmania IIDX modes. But wait, only 5.1.1. and Jam Jam Reggae are available! What gives? Well, the catch is that in order to get songs to appear here, you have to play them in Game Mode. For some strange reason I can't even begin to explain, clearing songs on Expert Mode will not get them to appear here. Other than that, there's really not much else to say. Go nuts! Oh, wait, one more thing. You can save replays in this mode. When you clear or fail a song, you can save a replay of what you just did so you can brag to your friends or figure out where you're struggling. Just choose "Save Replay" on the cute little menu that appears when you finish a song. I'll go into more detail later. D. Training Mode ---------------- Training Mode allows you to practice some or all of any song that's giving you trouble. There's no need to worry about clearing, failing, Internet Ranking, etc here. Training Mode consists mainly of a menu that allows you to choose a mode (Beatmania or Beatmania IIDX), a song, your desired modifiers, and two special features: - You can choose to play a segment of a song by choosing a starting and ending measure. - You can slow the song down if you need to practice certain patterns, or if you just feel like screwing around with the songs by slowing them down. After you play whichever part of the song you want to play, the game will give you an accuracy breakdown and tell you which measures you had trouble with. Oh, and if you want to practice any songs, you need to play them in Game Mode before they appear here. It sucks, I know, but it has to be done sooner or later. E. Expert Mode & Original Course Setting ---------------------------------------- EXPERT MODE Expert Mode allows you to play the Expert courses for Internet Ranking purposes. You can also create your own special nonstop courses for friendly challenges, and play them right here. For more info on Expert Mode, jump on over to section VII.A of the FAQ. ORIGINAL COURSE SETTING This mode allows you to create your own 5-song courses. You can combine any five songs (or even five of the same song, if you are so inclined), and play them on any difficulty - they don't all have to be the same. This is mainly for friendly challenges and such, but the game will save your highest scores on each original course. You can create up to five original courses in each mode (Beatmania and Beatmania IIDX). Oh, and the "you've gotta play songs in Game Mode before you can use them anywhere else" rule applies here, as well. Sorry for the inconvenience. F. Records Mode --------------- Records Mode will show you your high scores on each song or course in each mode (Beatmania and Beatmania IIDX), in Game/Free and Expert Modes. This is especially good for sites like VJ Army, where this information is important. Also, you can view your most recently earned password for a course by highlighting the course, pressing a white key to confirm, then pressing Select. Your DJ name and password will appear on the bottom of the screen. If for some reason you feel like erasing a score, just highlight the undesirable score and press the Start button. That's all. G. Replay Mode -------------- Here, you can view replays you've saved in Free Mode. When you play a song, choose "Save Replay" in the menu to...well, save a replay of the song you just played. You can save up to 5 replays on each memory card - I highly recommend you use this feature sparingly, because each replay uses 385 KB of space on your memory card. This is a great deal of space, and if you need the space for other things, you are strongly advised to delete any unwanted replays. In Replay Mode itself, simply choose one of your saved replays and watch. You can end the replay at any time by pressing and holding the Start button. H. Options ---------- These are the basic configuration options. GAME LEVEL Select the game's difficulty on a scale from 1 to 5. 1 is the easiest, 5 is the hardest, with incredibly large groove gauge penalties for missing notes. 3 is the default level, and you are advised to leave it there, for lowering it to 1 or 2 will disqualify you from Internet Ranking (and make you the laughingstock of other internet-based ranking sites). SOUND SETTINGS Here, you can choose between stereo and monaural sound, and adjust background music and sound volume. This does have an effect on the game - setting the background volume to 1 will make you hear only keysounds for the most part. CONTROLLER SETUP & VIBRATION SETTINGS Here, you can choose whether you want to use a Beatmania IIDX controller, or a Dual Shock controller. If for whatever reason you want to use a Dual Shock controller, you can configure the buttons here. If you're using the Dual Shock controller, you can also choose whether to enable vibration or not. This is a rather useless option, but if you want to use it, feel free. DISPLAY SETTINGS This section deals with the actual gameplay screen, allowing you to modify the position and contents of each set of lanes in both Single and Double modes. It also lets you remove the in-game judgments if you decide you feel like playing without them (but why would you?). MOVIE SETTINGS These options let you change different features of the in-game movies, such as brightness and aspect ratio (4:3 or 16:9). EXTRA SETTINGS This section contains a couple of useless options, such as the option to automatically disqualify yourself from Internet Ranking, or to save Hi-Speed settings for individual songs. You shouldn't need to come here. J. Save/Load ------------ You should never have to use this menu. Save/Load allows you to save your data, load data from the memory card, or turn on Auto Save. When you first start the game, go straight to this menu, turn on Auto Save, and forget this menu ever existed. On another note, be very careful not to turn off the power, reset, or remove the memory card while the game is saving. I am not responsible for any instances of controller breakage due to someone not following those instructions. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ V. MODIFIERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The game has lots of different modifiers available, allowing you to, er, modify your gameplay experience in different ways. Some modifiers make the game easier, some make it harder, and some will make others think you've gone totally insane. You can set whatever modifiers you want before each song, although there are special notes on two of them. In Double and Battle modes, both players have to use the same modifiers. Yes, I know it sucks. A. Hi-Speed ----------- Hi-Speed is the most useful modifier in the game. Hi-Speed spreads out and increases the speed of the notes on the chart, making them easier to read. This makes the game easier by providing you, the player, with fewer notes to concentrate on at any given time. This mod does NOT increase the playback speed of the music. There are five different Hi-Speed settings: Hi-Speed 0, Hi-Speed 1, and so on up to Hi-Speed 4. These numbers are not factors like 1x or 2x; they're just arbitrary numbers that pretty much just say which ones are faster and which ones are slower - Hi-Speed 3 is faster than Hi-Speed 2, for instance. This is good because trying to play a song at zero times its normal speed would be quite annoying, to say the very least. B. Easy/Challenge ----------------- Easy and Challenge change the Groove Gauge in special ways, although Challenge doesn't necessarily make the game harder. Easy is a staple modifier for beginner players, and causes the gauge to build up more quickly as you get Perfects and Greats. The gauge will also drop more slowly if you get bads or poors. This is a great way to clear songs that are giving you trouble, but be aware that an Easy Clear is the lowest-level clear you can get, and has less value than a regular clear and a Challenge Clear for the purposes of Internet Ranking (see sections VIII and X), which means that once you've gotten the hang of the game, you should waste little time changing Easy Clears to normal or Challenge Clears. Speaking of Challenge, Challenge modifies the gauge so that it is always red, and starts at 100%. This means that you no longer need to get it above 80% to clear the song (in fact, the gauge will start totally full) - you can clear the song with just 2% left. Don't think that this gives you more breathing room, though - the mod is called "Challenge", after all. Any miss (bad or poor) will cause the gauge to drop twice as fast as normal. A few misses in a row will drop your gauge to almost zilch. If it's any consolation, the gauge refills at its normal rate. However, it's possible to stay alive if you have problems by simply getting more goods and greats than misses in a hard part of the song. C. Random/Mirror (or both?) --------------------------- Random randomly randomizes the notechart of the song you're playing. This randomization has no effect on the turntable, however. It also doesn't scramble up the notes - that would be way too hard. Instead, it just randomizes each lane. If you're having problems with a particular song, Random may very well make it easier. Unfortunately, you're just as likely to get a horribly crappy chart, so use Random at your own risk. Mirror, on the other hand, simply inverts the chart (again ignoring the turntable) so that it's a mirror image of itself. A note that would appear in lane 1, for instance, will appear in lane 7 with Mirror on. Mirror can be a big help sometimes, but it can also hurt, so again, use it at your own risk. Random and Mirror can be used together, but this has very little effect on the game - the game will just mirror the randomized notechart. D. Hidden/Sudden (or both?) --------------------------- Hidden doesn't hide the notes entirely (because that would be just plain evil) - rather, the notes will scroll normally, and then disappear at a certain point. This isn't extremely useful, however, but some do claim that it helps on some of those horribly offsync songs (e-motion, I'm looking in your direction). Sudden is the opposite of Hidden, and can be much more useful if you know when to use it. Remember where the notes disappeared when you used Hidden? Well, that's where the notes will show up if you use Sudden. Now, you'd think that such a modifier was totally useless, but if you use Sudden on very slow songs, it will have the same benefit as a Hi-Speed mod - Sudden will give you fewer notes to concentrate on at a time, which is what the Hi-Speed mods do. The notes are just compressed in a smaller space, but can be spread out with a real Hi-Speed mod if needed. Hidden and Sudden can also be used at the same time, but instead of hiding the notes entirely, the notes will just blink on screen for less than a second about halfway down each lane. This modifier is very difficult to use, and you should be quite proud of yourself if you're able to clear harder songs with both Hidden and Sudden. Not many people can do this. On another note, you can use the benefits of Sudden all the time, even when you aren't actually using Sudden! All you have to do is get a towel, a shirt, a cat*, whatever, and drape it over part of the screen - voila, adjustable Sudden! This can make notes easier to read, and is great for when you feel that a Hi-Speed mod just isn't enough. This is a widely accepted practice in the Beatmania community, and it's a good idea to learn it. *Note: Don't use a cat. If you do, I'm not responsible for what happens. E. 5keys -------- Formerly a game mode like Hyper, 5keys will hide lanes 6 and 7. You are not responsible for anything in those lanes, and those notes will be subtracted from the overall note count for scoring purposes. 5keys is mainly for training purposes, or if you were raised on the original Beatmania series and need a leg up into Beatmania IIDX. Scores set with the 5keys mod will not be saved. This is a good mod to use if you're graduating from Beatmania mode, however. F. Autoscratch -------------- Autoscratch can be a useful tool, but at the same time, it can also be very, very cheap. With Autoscratch, you are no longer responsible for any turntable scratches - the game does them for you! However, scores set with Autoscratch will not be saved, so use this only as a training tool. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VI. SONG LIST ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Songs in Beatmania mode only have one difficulty. The Another charts in Beatmania IIDX have to be unlocked; see section IX of the FAQ for more info. Not all songs have Anothers. A. EXPERT MODE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A. Overview -------------- Expert Mode consists of several nonstop courses used for Internet Ranking purposes (see section VIII of the FAQ). When I say "nonstop", I don't really mean it - between songs, there's no time limit before the next song begins, so feel free to get up and get something to eat, go out with friends, do whatever before coming back and starting the next song. I have left the game running on the result screen for an hour to find it still waiting for me to continue on. Anyway, I digress. Expert Mode has a special groove gauge that is always red, and starts at 100%. The gauge drops a little more slowly than the regular gauge, but it also builds back up much more slowly. Whenever it hits 0, you immediately fail the course. The gauge doesn't refill between songs, and there are five songs in each course. In Expert Mode, you can use all the modifiers, although, as mentioned in section V of the FAQ, some of them will disqualify you from Internet Ranking. Keep in mind that the mods you choose will be in effect for the entire course, so don't choose, say, Hi-Speed 4 if you know there'll be a 190 BPM song in the course unless you can read that fast. In Beatmania IIDX mode, Expert courses have three difficulties: Light, Standard, and Heavy. Now where have we seen those before, hmm? Anyway, Light is the easiest, and Heavy is the hardest. A full list of the Expert courses can be found in section VII.A of the FAQ. Remember that you need to clear the course to qualify for Internet Ranking. Additionally, if you press a white key to select a course, the song list will appear there as well. Press the key again to start, or press a black key to back out. B. INTERNET RANKING ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ A. What the Heck is Internet Ranking? ------------------------------------- Internet Ranking allows to pit yourself against Beatmania players from around the world on the default Expert Courses. No, you can't use that "Roman 5" course you made for Internet Ranking purposes. The official Internet Ranking site is located at: www.konami.com/gs/ As of this update, Internet Ranking is not yet open. Check the website often for news about when it will open. B. How Do I Join the Fun? ------------------------- To participate in Internet Ranking, clear any one of the Expert courses marked "Internet Ranking Course". Using Autoscratch and 5keys mode, and/or playing with a difficulty level less than 3 will disqualify you from Internet Ranking. After you clear the course, you will be prompted to enter your DJ name. This can be up to six characters long. You must enter a name in order to participate. I would recommend not using your own name, as it may be taken. Also, pick a name you really like, because you will have to use it each time. After you enter your DJ name, you will receive a password. Write down this password, and keep it in a safe place. Or, you can head over to Records Mode, which will let you see your most recent password for that particular course. Beyond this point, I have absolutely no idea, and neither should you, because Konami hasn't opened Internet Ranking. Look for instructions on how to use it in a future update. As for what was originally here...well, just forget you ever saw it, okay? Please? For me? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ IX. SECRETS AND UNLOCKABLES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ All the sections that were here are gone, because there's one surefire way to unlock absolutely everything there is to unlock! This includes Another and the hidden Expert courses (Beatmania/IIDX06-10). To unlock all the hidden features in the game, play through all the songs in both Beatmania and Beatmania IIDX modes at least once; you don't have to clear them. However, exiting out of a song by pressing Start during the song doesn't count as a play-through - that'd be way too easy. It also doesn't matter what difficulty you play the songs on, so you can play all the IIDX songs on Beginner if the harder difficulties are giving you trouble. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ X. SPECIAL THANKS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Thanks To: Konami - for creating the awesome Beatmania and Beatmania IIDX series. CJayC and GameFAQs, for hosting my guide. Chad Steele (BTB), whose hilarious FAQs inspired me to write my own. I'm not as funny as he is, but I try. VJ Army - For providing notecounts for all the songs. Runeknight13 - Clarifying how to unlock Another, and pointing out that combos aren't in the list of clears in this game, they're totally separate. Cary Kawamoto - Found that elusive Border Bonus. Matt Wilson - Lots of assorted clarifications and changes, including revealing that there is no Beginner difficulty on Double mode. Doozer - Finding IR passwords in Records mode. Lapsus Antepedis - Found the Great Bonus. Taren - Figured out the damn grading system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ XI.
