======================================================================== BREATH OF FIRE: DRAGON QUARTER ALL-PURPOSE FAQ ======================================================================== Author: John H. Hoffnagle IV (Lancet Jades) Author's Homepage: http://www.evermoreforums.com/forums/index.php Version: 1.13 (completed January 29th, 2018) Sites with permission to post this FAQ: GameFAQs.com (will always host the most up-to-date version of this guide) Neoseeker.com Gamesradar.com Gamershell.com Supercheats.com =========================================================== ABOUT =========================================================== This is a general guide (not walkthrough) for Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter. Quite an underrated game, I feel it is an excellent game for several reasons. Although I know some did not enjoy it for various reasons (usually because it's not similar to other Breath of Fire games, or because of the D-Counter), I can't help but love it. This guide provides a lot of information on several things in the form of tables and lists and explanations. My goal with the guide is to elucidate a lot of the lesser-known aspects of the game and provide a database of information that is more in-depth than most guides out there. There are probably spoilers abound in this guide, so be careful. While this isn't a walkthrough and doesn't go out of its way to spoil stuff, I don't mince words when it comes to names of people, places, or enemies (which are often people, too). =========================================================== TABLE OF CONTENTS =========================================================== 1: Item tables 1.1 - Recovery and combat items 1.2 - PETS items: traps and bombs 1.3 - Sellable items 1.4 - Other items 2: Weapon tables 2.1 - Ryu's weapons 2.2 - Nina's weapons 2.3 - Lin's weapons 2.4 - Bosch's weapon 3: Shield tables 3.1 - Ryu's shields 3.2 - Nina's shields 3.3 - Lin's shields 3.4 - Bosch's shield 4: Armor tables 4.1 - Ryu's armor 4.2 - Nina's armor 4.3 - Lin's armor 4.4 - Bosch's armor 5: Skill tables 5.1 - Ryu's skills 5.2 - Nina's skills 5.3 - Lin's skills 5.4 - Shield skills 5.5 - Bosch's skills 6: Weapon skills and combo tables 6.1 - Ryu's weapon skills and combo 6.2 - Nina's weapon skills 6.3 - Lin's weapon skills and combos 6.4 - Bosch's weapon skills and combo 7: Finding the best version of each weapon/armor/shield 7.1 - Ryu's best equipment 7.2 - Nina's best equipment 7.3 - Lin's best equipment 8: Item shop inventory list 8.1 - Old Waste Shaft 1F 8.2 - EndSector Borough 8.3 - Lift: LowSector 1 8.4 - LowSector Borough 8.5 - CorpLab Entrance 8.6 - CorpLab 5F 8.7 - Frozen Road 8.8 - MidSector Mall 8.9 - Trinity Pit 8.10- TopSector Borough 8.11- Centre Entrance 8.12- Cemetery 8.13- Colony Shop: Skills 9: Equipment shop inventory list 9.1 - EndSector Borough 9.2 - LowSector Borough 9.3 - CorpLab Entrance 9.4 - CorpLab 5F 9.5 - MidSector Mall 9.6 - TopSector Borough 9.7 - Cemetery 9.8 - Colony Shop: Ryu 9.9 - Colony Shop: Nina 9.10- Colony Shop: Lin 10: Enemy list! Each section is broken into categories that attempt to sort the items by properties beyond just the name or ATK stat. Note that Range (RNG) is listed in centimeters (CM). ATK and MAG are added directly to that character's base stat, while WT is deducted from their base SPD. All weapons have both ATK and MAG stats, even if not listed in the game, although they usually start at 0 if not listed. COST is the base value in zenny, and modified by the enchantment level. PRICE EFFECT: +10% base value per enchant level. Enchantment is the bonus level of a weapon, such as "Ranger Edge+1." This offers an improvement in power, so a Ranger Edge+2 is superior to Ranger Edge+1. If no + number is present, the weapon has the default stats listed above. For each level, a weapon gains 3 points of ATK and MAG. Note that these apply even if the weapon does not have that stat, such as ATK for Nina's staves, or MAG on Lin's guns. The item stats won't note the bonus, but you can see the effect when changing equipment. ATK for Nina has no effect (except for the Slapper), but MAG on Ryu and Lin will improve their defense against magic and status effects. Each level also raises the item's price by 10% of the base value. For Ranger Edge, normally worth 400Z, the Ranger Edge+1 will be worth 440Z, or (400 * 1.1). A weapon at +9 will be worth almost twice (1.9x) what the base weapon is worth. ===================================== ========================================================================== 3: SHIELD TABLES ========================================================================== ===================================== This is a list of all known shields in the game, their default stats at +0, and other information. DEF is added directly to the character's base stat, while WT is deducted from their base SPD. COST is the base value in zenny, and modified by the enchantment level. AP is the reduction of max AP incurred when equipped. Note that the enchantment level will raise the DEF stat even if the shield starts with 0 DEF. BONUS PER LEVEL: +2 DEF. However, his shield can be destroyed by giving him the Explosion skill (on later playthroughs when it can actually have been obtained), and letting the skill work its magic. --------------------------------------------------------- ENCHANTMENT EFFECTS --------------------------------------------------------- STAT EFFECT: +2 DEF per enchant level. PRICE EFFECT: +10% base value per enchant level. Enchantment is the bonus level of a shield, such as "Ranger Shell+1." This offers an improvement in DEF, so a Ranger Shell+2 is superior to Ranger Shell+1. If no + number is present, the shield has the default stats listed above. For each level, a shield gains 2 points of DEF. Note that these apply even if the shield starts with 0 DEF, such as Solid/Astral/Bari shields. Each level also raises the item's price by 10% of the base value. For Ranger Shell, normally worth 320Z, the Ranger Shell+1 will be worth 352Z, or (320 * 1.1). A shield at +9 will be worth almost twice (1.9x) what the base shield is worth. ===================================== ========================================================================== 4: ARMOR TABLES ========================================================================== ===================================== This is a list of all known shields in the game, their default stats at +0, and other information. Each section is broken into categories that attempt to sort the items by properties beyond just the name or DEF stat. As far as comparing armor between characters, unlike shields, each has different DEF values compared to each other for the same type of armor. The rule is that Ryu's armor has 4 more DEF than Nina's equivalent, and Lin's will have 2 more defense. Thus, Ryu's default armor has 14 DEF, Lin's has 12, and Nina's has 10. MOV is identical for each character's armor. COST also differs, with Nina's armor being the cheapest and Ryu's the most expensive, however the precise difference seems to differ for each item. An armor at +9 will be worth almost twice (1.9x) what the base armor is worth. ===================================== ========================================================================== 5: SKILL TABLES ========================================================================== ===================================== Skills are equipped to weapons and shields, and allow characters to attack. Power is the base power of the skill. "Normal physical attack" means 100% power on skills, with others higher or lower. Default skills are ones the character starts with. Skills stolen from or dropped by enemies will be labeled with a ratio, such as 1:2. This is the success rate of the steal or drop. If none is listed, it is either unknown or is guaranteed (1:1). Some notes: -The "Power" column is what percent of the attacking character's ATK stat is used to calculate damage. As such, an attack with 80% power uses 80% of the ATK stat. This means that the 80% attack will do LESS than 80% of the damage that a 100% power attack would do. The reason is that the damage calculation weights DEF exponentially. A 20% reduction in the ATK stat will cause an exponentially lower damage, not a linear 20% drop. This also means an attack with 120% power will do LESS than 20% more damage than the 100% power attack. -Skills that ignore enemy DEF do work properly, however many high-defense enemies also have a barrier effect that reduces damage (usually 25% or 50%) for some or all types of attacks. DEF-ignoring will NOT ignore the barriers, and will result in abnormally low damage. In any case, Thrust sucks no matter who or what you're attacking. Fang and Terabreak are decent, though. -Skills that mention being threaded on a weapon as their location CANNOT be permanently learned. They are only available on that weapon, in the slot they are in. -Skills that cause an effect, such as reducing a stat or inflicts a status, calculate the success of the damage and status separately. It's possible for such moves to miss on the damage, but still hit with the status. -Nina skills with the Range "MCircl" are magic circles that must be set. These count towards the "Magic" limit listed in battle, and usually require contact to trigger. -Shield skills are threaded onto a shield. Each character only has two types of shields that can thread a skill, though, so be careful. --------------------------------------------------------- 5.1 - RYU'S SKILLS --------------------------------------------------------- Name Power Range Effects -Location --------------------------------------------------------- 10 AP skills: --------- Act Delay 80% Single Inflicts SPD. These numbers cannot be altered in any way, and thus finding a copy of an item with the highest possible enchantment is the best option for powerful characters. When a ratio appears in parentheses, such as (1:32), this is the chance of the item dropping or being stolen. Drop rates can be improved with the Present item, but there is nothing to improve stealing chances, although having Lin use the Greetings -> C'mere! stealing combo will speed things up a lot. "??" and "Location unknown" indicate that I have never found the item in the game. Theoretically it exists, but I do not know any location that produces the item. This applies only to body armors, as all weapons and shields have been found. The only two still to be found are Ryu's Chaos Gear and Nina's Stun Check armor. If anyone can find these, let me know! If an item is bought from a weapon shop somewhere, keep in mind that shop may have varying inventories. If the item is not for sale, check the inventory list earlier in the guide. You need to start a new playthrough for the shop's inventory to change. See sections 8 and 9 for all known shop lists. NOTE! If you've found a higher-level version of an item listed here, let me know! Try and be as specific as possible as to where you found it, as it is most likely from a gold crate somewhere in the game. The specific location of the crate is important! For example, "Death Armor+3" is found in a gold crate near the start of Lifeline, in the southwest corner of the first room. Other gold crates in Lifeline do not contain that item as a possible drop. Be as specific as possible, although even knowing of something's existence is a big help, so don't hesitate to just tell me "I found a [something]+5 somewhere." --------------------------------------------------------- 7.1 - RYU'S BEST EQUIPMENT --------------------------------------------------------- WEAPONS: --------------------------- Buster Sword +6 Randomly found in gold crates in Centre 2F North ('To Cupid'). The inventories of item shops almost never change, it seems, but rarely one shop will not carry the usual items. All known shop inventories are listed here. The first column is the item type: -Trp: Traps, used for luring in monsters. (PETS) -Bmb: Explosives, used for damaging monsters. (PETS) -Rcv: Recovery items. -Esc: Escape. Only one item uses this. They are usually found in every town, and once or twice outside of one. Their stuff tends to be overpriced early in the game, so it may be MidSector before you're able to afford stuff. Although item stats are not listed, they can be derived by checking Sections 2, 3, and 4 (equipment lists), and applying the enchantment bonuses. The first column is the item type. This tells you whether it's a weapon (W), shield (S), or armor (A). The term next to it tells you whether it's for Ryu, Nin(a), or Lin. The second column is the weapon and it's enchantment, with the final column being the price. --------------------------------------------------------- 9.1 - ENDSECTOR BOROUGH --------------------------------------------------------- W Ryu Ranger Edge+2 480z W Ryu Ranger Edge+2 480z W Nin Glacier+2 960z W Nin Thor Hammer+2 960z W Lin Pistol+2 1200z W Lin AutoRifle+2 3600z S Ryu Ranger Shell+3 416z S Ryu Solid Shell+2 960z S Nin Amulet+2 384z S Nin Amulet+2 384z S Lin TriCharger+3 416z S Lin Solid Ribbon+2 960z A Ryu Light Suit+2 1056z A Ryu Ranger Suit+2 432z A Nin LightClothes+2 864z A Ryu Strider Suit 8400z A Lin Quick Chaps+3 1040z A Nin SlaveClothes+2 336z S Nin Talisman 4000z A Lin Wild Chaps+2 384z A Ryu Ranger Suit+2 432z W Ryu Strong Sword+3 1950z A Ryu Poison Gear+2 3960z W Ryu Buster Sword+1 1100z A Ryu Heavy Suit 2200z W Ryu Ranger Edge+2 480z A Nin SlaveClothes+2 336z W Nin Pyromania+2 960z A Nin Poison Check+2 3240z W Nin Glacier+2 960z A Nin HeavyClothes 1800z W Nin Thor Hammer+2 960z A Lin Wild Chaps+2 384z W Nin Magic Wand 4000z A Lin Poisonproof+2 3600z W Lin Pistol+1 1100z A Lin Heavy Chaps 2000z W Lin AutoRifle+2 3600z A Lin Quick Garter+3 5070z W Lin Handgun+1 5500z --------------------------------------------------------- 9.2 - EVERY DARN ENEMY IN THE GAME! ========================================================================== ===================================== It's that time, people! A list of every known enemy in the entire game! While enemy formations do change from playthrough to playthrough, the actual enemies found stay mostly the same, with only a few exceptions. This means a list can be compiled, showing all enemies by area, and how many of each are found where in the game. YAY! The actual sections of this list are broken up by each area. An area is one "block" of map, as seen on the overall map screen (with yellow blocks being "safe" zones like a town, and blue being combat zones, like most areas). This results in a very accurate, but looooong list. Ctrl+F is your friend. Some areas have different enemies altogether on different playthroughs. One example is a GooElement vs. Deathcow in Lift to BioCorp 2. In these cases, the number of each enemy that can vary are listed separately, such as (x1 or x3). Each column represents one possible layout of the area, and what enemies are found there. The columns only apply to enemies that have multiple entries; enemies with only one given quantity are always present. If there's a range of quantities an enemy may be present in, it will be listed as such. For example, (x0-2) means that between 0 and 2 of the enemy can be present, to be interpreted as 0, 1, or 2. The reasons for the varying quantity will be listed, and this varying quantity is not based on different layouts of the area, as is with multiple columns of quantities. --------------------------------------------------------- 10.1 - MAIN GAME ENEMIES --------------------------------------------------------- A list of enemies in each area of the main game. They will actually be completely different enemies, however, with less HP, lower power, and different items to steal and drop. ------------------- IndustOne 1F ------------------- Bandit x2 Baphomet x1 Ebonfire x4 HighwayStar x3 Odd Hychee x3 or 4 ------------------- IndustOne 2F West ------------------- Bandit x1 Capek x3 or 4 (+6 or +0 ***) HighwayStar x1 Petrophage x4 or 6 (+3 or +9 ***) Wonderbox x1 or 2 NOTE: The entries marked with *** are behind a 1/1024 D-Ratio locked door. They give a lot of XP, so killing them repeatedly can earn a big XP payday. However, the maximum party XP is obtained by killing both Alter Egos on turn 1, then killing the next two on turn 2, followed by the next two and Elyon on turn 3. Waiting until after that will degrade the party XP multipliers too much. Use Ryu's Hex skill (XP+10%) on each Alter Ego and Elyon to boost XP further, although if you're grinding this battle to rack up party XP, it's not very time-effective. ------------------- Geofront LowSector ------------------- Bosch x1 (Boss) Dragon Bosch x1 (Boss) NOTE: To kill Dragon Bosch, you must first hit him with a dragon attack to break his defenses EACH TURN. If the D-Counter is so high that such an attack cannot be afforded (such as above 99%), it is impossible to defeat him. --------------------------------------------------------- 10.2 - OVERALL ENEMY LIST AND PARTY XP VALUE --------------------------------------------------------- This is a list of the total number of each enemy in the game. This also includes a list of their party XP value if killed outside of battle with an attack from a character. See Section 15 for more information on killing enemies outside of battle. I hacked Ryu's ATK to 2000 for the sake of testing this, and while party XP gained is equal to the monster's normal XP amount, this list mentions enemies that cannot be killed with this technique. I didn't just copy the enemy's XP into the party XP column and call it a day! n/a in the XP column means the enemy cannot be killed outside of battle, even with 2000 ATK. Note that some listed enemies can only be killed with Ryu or Lin, due to weakness to physical or shot. Nerveman is one example: even a 2000 ATK Ryu can't instant kill one (a slice will leave it with 200-400 HP), but Lin can. The #Total column lists the total number of that enemy in the game. Enemies in Kokon-Horay are not counted. Enemies behind a D-Ratio locked door are listed in the #D-Door column. In both columns, different enemy configurations are listed with the lower quantity first and the larger second, regardless of formations (unlike the earlier part where different columns referred to different configurations). The final column is for the various paths through the Centre. Due to the mutually exclusive nature of this area, I felt it dishonest to lump all paths' enemies into one count. Of the six, only two of the paths are chosen: C or H, then CJ or CV, or HJ or HV, based on C or H. The letters refer to Regents, of course. Know that C and J are the northern (left) paths, and H and V are the southern (right) paths. This section will elucidate these things, and what is needed, as well as provide tips to complete the challenges. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.1 - GENERAL GAME STATS --------------------------------------------------------- Stats Benchmark Comments -------------------------------------- D-Ratio 1/256 Improve by finishing the game more effectively. Times cleared 3 +1 every time you finish the game. Play time 40 hrs Total play time across all playthroughs. Times saved 15 +1 every save with a Telecorder and Save Token. Battles 300 Total number of battles fought. Foes defeated 1000 Total number of enemies killed. Nugget record 8000 Highest price earned for selling a Nugget. When you meet or surpass the benchmark, that stat will have a star next to it. When all seven stats have reached the benchmark, you will receive a reward. All seven stats are cumulative across all playthroughs on a single game file. Reward: Stinger+9 (Lin, 71 ATK, 400 CM, 15 WT, Acc. -25%, Shot damage) !!!NOTE!!! The reward for this challenge, a Stinger+9, is unique! Only one exists in the entire game, and once the challenge is completed, it can never be completed again. If you sell or discard the weapon, the only option is to start a new game entirely. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.2 - CHALLENGE: CHICKEN RUNNER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Run from battles 9 times in a row. Reward: C'mere! (10 AP skill for Lin; draws enemy in closer) Procedure: This is quite simple. Find an enemy near a door, set down bait, then simply initiate combat and retreat 9 times. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.3 - CHALLENGE: COMBO MASTER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Hit an enemy with 9 skills in one combo. Reward: AutoRifle+9 (Lin; 39 ATK, 500 CM, 10 WT, Acc. +20%, Shot damage) !!!NOTE!!! The reward for this challenge, an AutoRifle+9, is unique! Only one exists in the entire game, and once the challenge is completed, it can never be completed again. If you sell or discard the weapon, the only option is to start a new game entirely. Procedure: This can be tricky. You must use 9 skills in a single-unbroken combo. This requires a weapon with 9 skill slots, whether available or with a pre-threaded skill. It also requires characters to have three (two for Ryu, in some cases) skills of 10, 20, and 30 AP levels learned. Only five weapons are capable of completing this challenge: two for Ryu and Lin, and one for Nina. Valid weapons: -Legend Blade (Ryu) -Dragon Blade (Ryu) -Wizard Wand (Nina) -AutoRifle (Lin) -Grenade (Lin) The earliest Ryu can complete this challenge is sometime after CorpLab, where he finds the Roundsaber skill. His Legend Blade weapon can be bought from the fairy colony's Ryu shop for 88000Z, however it will take a while for enough enemies to be killed to stock the weapon. It has Great Smash on a 30 AP slot, and Ryu starts with Deathbringer, leaving Roundsaber as the third skill. The earliest Nina can complete this challenge is in the Centre. It require a SOL Restore to complete both 'To Cupid' and 'To Hortensia' paths for Inferno and Blizzard, then completing Kokon-Horay to floor 45 for Valhalla. The Wizard Wand is simple to get from the fairy colony's Nina shop for 88000Z long before you reach the Centre. Lin can complete this challenge at PowerOne, when she finds Shatter!. Along with Blow Up! and Let's Dance!, she'll have three 30 AP skills, and her AutoRifle weapon is very easy to find or buy, being dropped by many machine enemies. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.4 - CHALLENGE: GOO SLAYER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Kill 9 "Goo" enemies total. Reward: 30000 zenny. Procedure: Goo enemies are plentiful in CorpLab, with a cluster of 6 or so also found in Frozen Path (possibly two clusters), IndustOne, and PowerOne. There is also a large corridor with 12 total goos in Centre 3F North (To Cupid). Valid enemies: -GooRuby -GooSapphire -GooPlasma -FireGoo -IceGoo -ThunderGoo -GooElement -GooPrism -GooCrystal -GooKing --------------------------------------------------------- 12.5 - CHALLENGE: TECHNICIAN --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Win 9 battles in a row without damage. Reward: Bladesmack (20 AP Ryu skill; 100% Phys. attack, cannot kill enemies) Procedure: Easier than it sounds, if you pick the right location. One idea is to simply D-Dive and dragon-kill all enemies 9 times in a row, although this is rough on your D-Counter. Alternatively, find an undead regenerating enemy (Skeletons in PowerOne, or Zombies in Old TradeSector), set bait, and camp it with Nina's Kyrie skill, found on her Holy Heart weapon. Or you could try for it on a subsequent playthrough, using party XP to pump up Ryu's level enough he can destroy everything at the beginning. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.6 - CHALLENGE: DUKE HUNTER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Kill 9 "Duke" enemies total. Reward: 1000 party XP Procedure: Duke enemies are common in the Lift to BioCorp section at the start and in the Lift: LowSector section, with a few more on the Hortensia to Jezuit Centre 4F Main path. This one almost definitely needs to be done early on. Note that the Lift: LowSector has around 16 Dukes: several lower-level Dukes, and four Duke Battlers. Valid enemies: -Duke -Duke Leader -Duke Hunter -Duke Magi -Duke Battler -Duke Knight -Duke Lord --------------------------------------------------------- 12.7 - CHALLENGE: 1-ROUND WARRIOR --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Finish a battle in one round 9 times in a row. Reward: Kidding! (20 AP Lin skill; reverses effect of previous shot) Procedure: Many of the tips in Technician can apply to this, too. Abuse D-Dive to dragon-kill the enemies in the first round, camp a regenerating undead with bait and Nina's Kyrie spell, or use party XP to power up Ryu on subsequent playthroughs and obliterate early-game enemies. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.8 - CHALLENGE: TRI-BUSTER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Kill 9 "Tri-head" enemies total. Reward: Angel Coat+6 (Nina; 16 DEF, 16 MOV, Status resistance +50%) Procedure: There are only three tri-head enemy types: Rafflesia, Trilizard, and Cerebus. Rafflesia can be found in CorpLab 2F (2), CorpLab B2 (4, but in a 1/4096 D-Ratio door area). Trilizard can be found in Old TradeSector In (2), Lifeline LowSector (possibly 4, but behind a 1/4096 D-Ratio door), Lifeline Mid East (3 in the normal section, and 4 behind a 1/512 D-Ratio door). Cerebus can be found in Lifeline Mid East (behind a 1/512 D-Ratio door), in Lifeline Top East. 3 Rafflesia, 4 Trilizard, and 3 Cerebus enemies are found in Centre 3F South, on the path to Hortensia. Valid enemies: -Rafflesia -Trilizard -Cerebus --------------------------------------------------------- 12.9 - CHALLENGE: HARD PUNCHER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Cause 1000+ damage in a single combo. Reward: Celtis+9 (Ryu; 57 ATK, 150 CM, 15 WT, Acc. -20%, Phys. damage) Procedure: This challenge sounds deceptively difficult, but is easy. A single combo must cause 1000 or more damage. The most obvious method would be using strong AoE attacks on enemies, as each enemy hit contributes the damage to the total. Using D-Dive, D-Charge, then hitting an enemy with Twister is also a valid strategy. Perhaps the easiest of all though is using Nina's Kyrie spell, found on her Holy Heart weapon (bought for 20000Z from fairy colony's Nina shop), to instakill a Zombie in Old TradeSector, or a Karon in PowerOne. Both have over 1000 HP, and will instantly give the challenge. --------------------------------------------------------- 12.10 - CHALLENGE: ROBOCRUSHER --------------------------------------------------------- Objective: Kill 9 "Robot" enemies total. Reward: ChobhamPlate (Ryu; 24 DEF, 1 WT, unthreadable) Procedure: This is simple. IndustOne has a couple of rooms with several robots, with a 1/1024 D-Ratio door offering several more. However, sometimes two of the Capek enemies will not appear, leaving only 8 robots in IndustOne without the D-Ratio door. PowerOne also has dozens of robots to kill. Besides those two places, there aren't many others though, so get it there. It's unknown if the Asimov boss, and the Annex enemies it summons, count towards this. However, IndustOne is right after it, so it would be of little benefit, and only earn the challenge a bit earlier than otherwise. If anyone knows whether Asimov and the Annexes do count, please let me know. Valid enemies: -Capek -Karel -Proto-Karel -RescueMech -Asimov (boss - unsure if it counts) -Annex (boss minion - unsure if it counts) ===================================== ========================================================================== 13: ENEMY ITEM DROPS THAT VARY ========================================================================== ===================================== These enemies drop items based on various conditions that are described below. The items dropped can often be quite useful, so exploit them whenever possible. Locations lists where the enemy is usually found. The enemy will not always be in that precise location, and in some cases (such as GooElement's appearance near the beginning), may be replaced entirely (with a Deathcow, in that case). --------------------------------------------------------- 13.1 - GOOELEMENT --------------------------------------------------------- This Goo enemy, like all three, drops an item based on the property of the last attack it was hit with before dying. Note that the killing blow does NOT alter its item, only the last attack it survived. The only way to get the default drop is to kill it in one hit, or with "Universal" property attacks like Ryu's dragon and the Ragnarok spell. Additionally, elemental weapons for Ryu and Lin (such as Ruby Maser and IceCannon), are considered physical (Ryu) or shot (Lin) property for the purposes of the Goo's item. Note that, yes, ice attacks DO cause it to drop a ThunderRifle. Yes, I know ThunderRifle is electric. Hey, it's not my problem. Blame the goo. Locations: -Lift to BioCorp 2 (sometimes a Deathcow is there instead) (1) -Old Waste Shaft 3F (1) -Lift: LowSector 3 (1) Default: Ranger Edge+1 (19 ATK, 150 CM, 6 WT, Phys. attack) Physical: Buster Sword (20 ATK, 150 CM, 12 WT, Phys. attack) Shot: Victorious (20 ATK, 600 CM, 5 WT, Acc. -10%, Shot attack) Fire: Ruby Maser (22 ATK, 150 CM, 4 WT, 10 MAG, Fire/Phys. attack) Ice: ThunderRifle (18 ATK, 500 CM, 4 WT, Acc .-10%, Elec./Shot attack) Electric: Thor Hammer (15 MAG, 400 CM, 5 WT, +5% Elec. damage) Universal: No change --------------------------------------------------------- 13.2 - GOOPRISM --------------------------------------------------------- This Goo enemy, like all three, drops an item based on the property of the last attack it was hit with before dying. Locations: -CorpLab 4F(1) -IndustTwo 2F North (if Deegon is not killed before Tantra) (1) -IndustTwo 2F South (if Geegagis is not killed before Tantra) (1) -Lifeline Mid West (3) Default: Strong Sword+3 (21 ATK, 200 CM, 2 WT, Phys. attack) Physical: Strong Sword+3 (21 ATK, 200 CM, 2 WT, Phys. attack) Shot: Pistol+3 (25 ATK, 500 CM, 3 WT, Shot attack) Fire: Ruby Maser+1 (25 ATK, 150 CM, 4 WT, 13 MAG, Fire/Phys. attack) Ice: Ice Check+1 (13 DEF, 6 MOV, Ice damage -50%) Electric: Plasmaproof+1 (15 DEF, 6 MOV, Elec. damage -50%) Universal: No change --------------------------------------------------------- 13.3 - GOOCRYSTAL --------------------------------------------------------- This Goo enemy, like all three, drops an item based on the property of the last attack it was hit with before dying. Locations: -Lifeline Mid West (1/512 D-Ratio area)(1) -Main Shaft Sector B (1/256 D-Ratio area) (1) -Centre 3F North (To Cupid) (1) Default: Strong Sword+3 (21 ATK, 200 CM, 2 WT, Phys. attack) Physical: Excel Suit+2 (16 DEF, 12 MOV, Status ailment chance -50%) Shot: PrincessGard+2 (14 DEF, 7 MOV, Status ailment chance -50%) Fire: Pyromania+5 (30 MAG, 400 CM, 5 WT, +5% Fire damage) Ice: Sapph. Maser+5 (37 ATK, 25 MAG, 150 CM, 4 WT, Ice/Phys. attack) Electric: Thor Hammer+6 (33 MAG, 400 CM, 5 WT, +5% Elec. damage) Universal: No change --------------------------------------------------------- 13.4 - JACK-BOX AND BIG JACK-BOX --------------------------------------------------------- These crate-impersonators in Frozen Road drop a varying amount of zenny when killed. The zenny drop is based on the number of hits the Jack-Box sustains before dying. Equip weak weapons and use weak skills like Side Slash, Nina's 10AP spells, and Lin's Greetings! to maximize money. Their zenny maxes at 60000z total. Locations (Jack-Box): -Frozen Road 2F (0 or 2) -Frozen Road 4F (2 or 3) Locations (Big Jack-Box): -Frozen Road 2F (1) -Frozen Road 4F (1 or 2) Jack-Box initial drop: 100z Big Jack-Box initial drop: 200z Zenny increase per attack: 20% "JACK POD! Zenny jumps up!": Current zenny x2. Maximum zenny possible: 60000z Each time the enemy is attacked, their zenny increases 20%, however it rounds to a multiple of 10. For example, hitting a Jack-Box once will boost its zenny to 120 (from 100). But hitting again boosts it to 140, not 144. This is because 140 is a multiple of 10. The amount always rounds down, never up. When the "JACK POD!" message appears, on the Jack-Box's first turn after being hit at least once (sometimes twice), its current zenny is doubled, however much it may be. This only happens once. --------------------------------------------------------- 13.5 - WONDERBOX --------------------------------------------------------- The Wonderbox will drop an item based on how much damage it has taken. It will self-destruct at the end of the first turn it has damage on, with its remaining HP determining the item. When going for specific items, keep a manual tally of damage dealt, and remember that you can use healing items like a Heal Kit on it. Note that Lin's Profile skill won't show the remaining HP of the Wonderbox, as the camera is positioned specifically to make the HP bar impossible to see. It starts with 1000 HP. Locations: -IndustOne 2F West (1 or 2) -Old TradeSector C (1) -Lifeline Mid West (1) 501+ HP: Heal Kit Recovers 50 HP to target. 251-500 HP: Save Token One-use item that allows saving at a Telecorder. 51-250 HP: Gold XP XP earned +5%; stacks to 100% maximum. 11-50 HP: Hymnal+1 10 DEF, 1 WT, threadable shield. (Lin) 6-10 HP: Keep At It! 20 AP skill for Lin. 2-5 HP: Soul Ring+1 2 DEF, 0 WT, 15 AP cost, "Willguard" skill. (Nina) 1 HP: Junk Sell for 25 zenny. --------------------------------------------------------- 13.6 - PANDORA'S BOX --------------------------------------------------------- Pandora's Box will drop a different item based on the turn it is killed on. Each turn, it will use all three levels of an element's magic, starting with fire, then ice, then electric. It can do a LOT of damage, so keep everyone spread out. The item changes when it takes its turn, not at the start of the turn. On its fourth turn, it will self-destruct and leave behind the item. Locations: -Centre 2F North (1) -Centre 2F South (1) -Centre 4F Main (Cupid to Vexacion) (1) Turn 1: 7th Sense Raises ATK/DEF/MAG/SPD/MOV by 50% for one turn. Turn 2: Gold XP XP earned +5%; stacks to 100% maximum. Turn 3: Save Token One-use item that allows saving at a Telecorder. Final: Mirage Blast 30 AP skill for Nina. --------------------------------------------------------- 13.7 - TRILIZARD --------------------------------------------------------- Trilizard is simple: every time it changes its element, its steal item is regenerated (if previously stolen) and changed to the corresponding 20 AP magic skill for Nina. Locations: -Old TradeSector In (2) -Lifeline LowSector (0 or 3) (+ 0 or 4 more in 1/4096 D-Ratio area) -Lifeline Mid East (3) (+4 more in 1/512 D-Ratio area) -Lifeline Mid West (1/512 D-Ratio area) (2) -Centre 3F South (4) Initial item: Lightning 20 AP skill for Nina. Turn 1 (fire): Fireblast 20 AP skill for Nina. Turn 2 (ice): Iceblast 20 AP skill for Nina. Turn 3 (elec): Lightning 20 AP skill for Nina. (repeats fire -> ice -> lightning until killed) --------------------------------------------------------- 13.8 - TRICKSTER, BANDIT, AND HIGHWAYSTAR --------------------------------------------------------- These are in here purely for the sake of being thorough. Unlike all other enemies so far, these three have nothing to be gained via the item change. Instead, their "change" is a way to get back an item they otherwise either stole from you, or picked up from the ground. Locations (Trickster): -Lift: LowSector 2 (2) Trickster initial item: Zennypurse Sell for 300z. Trickster item change: "Pickpocket" attack, OR picks items off the ground. -------------- Locations (Bandit): -IndustOne 1F (2) -IndustOne 2F West (1) -IndustOne 2F East (2) -Old TradeSector A (2) -Lifeline LowSector (2 or 3) -Lifeline Mid East (1/512 D-Ratio area) (4) -LifeLine Top East (4) Bandit initial item: Steal 10 AP shield skill. Bandit item change: Uses "Pickpocket" attack and steals item. -------------- Locations (HighwayStar): -IndustOne 1F (3) -IndustOne 2F West (1) -IndustOne 2F East (1) HighwayStar initial item: Zennypurse Sell for 300z. HighwayStar item change: Picks up item sitting on the ground. In all three cases, the item stolen or picked up replaces their existing item drop (Steal or Zennypurse), and thus can be won back from the enemy by killing them. The trouble begins when, after acquiring an item, the thief begins running for the nearest door to retreat! If the enemy escapes battle after acquiring an item, it is lost after the battle ends, because the enemies are restored to their default condititon (no status, full HP, default items). The same thing happens if your party retreats from the battle! --------------------------------------------------------- 13.9 - DUKE BATTLER, KNIGHT, AND LORD --------------------------------------------------------- These are in here purely for the sake of being thorough. Unlike all other enemies so far, these have nothing to be gained via the item change except a weaker version of their armor drop. Locations (Duke Battler): -Lift: LowSector 2 (1) -Lift: LowSector 4 (4) Duke Battler initial item: Heavy Suit+2 Duke Battler broken item: Heavy Suit -------------- Locations (Duke Knight): -Main Shaft Sector A (1/256 D-Ratio area) (1) -Main Shaft Sector B (1/256 D-Ratio area) (2) -Main Shaft Sector D (1/256 D-Ratio area) (4) -Centre 4F Main (Hortensia to Jezuit) (3) Duke Knight initial item: Superheavy+2 Duke Knight broken item: Superheavy -------------- Locations (Duke Lord): -Centre 4F Main (Hortensia to Jezuit) (1) Duke Lord initial item: Heavy Garter+3 Duke Lord broken item: Heavy Garter When hit with 15 physical or shot attacks (not Nina's magic) in a single battle, their armor cracks. This causes them to be much more vulnerable to damage from any source (including Nina's magic), but also weakens their drop item, removing the enchantment. Their armor only cracks on their first turn after taking the 15 hits, so they can be attacked as much as desired, so long as they aren't allowed to take a turn before being killed. --------------------------------------------------------- 13.10 - HYCHEE, BON APPETIT, PRIMA, ODD HYCHEE, SEBON --------------------------------------------------------- These worms are genics created to feed people, which is why they drop healing items when killed. However, being food, they're supposed to be cooked before eating! Hitting any of them with a fire-element attack in battle, whether Nina's magic or a Ruby Maser / FlameBlaster hit from Ryu or Lin, will "cook" them, prompting the message "[Enemy]'s flavor improves!" Hychee initial drop: Heal Kit Restores 50 HP to one target. Hychee cooked drop: Aid Kit Restores 100 HP to one target. Bon Appetit initial drop: Aid Kit Restores 100 HP to one target. Bon Appetit cooked drop: Med Kit Restores 200 HP to one target. Prima initial drop: Med Kit Restores 200 HP to one target. Prima cooked drop: Life Kit Restores all HP to one target. Odd Hychee initial drop: Mega Aid Kit Restores 100 HP to entire party. Odd Hychee cooked drop: Trauma Kit Restores 200 HP to entire party. Sebon initial drop: Mega Aid Kit Restores 100 HP to entire party. Sebon cooked drop: Trauma Kit Restores 200 HP to entire party. Note that the first (cooking) fire attack CANNOT be the killing blow! This can make cooking most of these enemies very difficult, as Hychee and Prima usually die instantly to any attack. The only real option for cooking them (especially Prima, for Life Kits), is to use Ryu's Bladesmack skill, or Lin's Go on! skill, in conjunction with a Ruby Maser or FlameBlaster. These skills ensure the enemy will survive with 1 HP, and thus be cooked. Prima is the only guaranteed source of Life Kits, which are otherwise only randomly found in crates. ===================================== ========================================================================== 14: VARIOUS TABLES AND LISTS ========================================================================== ===================================== This section is for tables and lists that don't fit elsewhere. --------------------------------------------------------- 14.1 - BLUE CHEST LIST --------------------------------------------------------- There are 47 blue chests total, however only 42 are obtainable in a single run due to branching paths in the Center. The maximum effect, up or down, for a single stat is +/- 25%. When it has been reached, instead of saying "[STAT] DOWN", it will instead say "[STAT] MIN." The only exception is the 7th Sense item: this will boost all five stats by 50% instead of the usual 25%. Status is much simpler. Either you're vulnerable, or not. Characters face eight different statuses, while enemies can face seven. There is some overlap, although several statuses apply only to either allies or enemies. ------------------- Raising stats: ------------------- -7th Sense ATK/DEF/MAG/SPD/MOV +50% -Armor Boost DEF +25% -Magic Boost MAG +25% -Power Boost ATK +25% -Range Boost MOV +25% -Shield Boost DEF +1% -Speed Boost SPD +25% -Weapon Boost ATK +1% ------------------- Lowering stats: ------------------- -Act Delay SPD -5% -ATK Down combo ATK -10% -Blunt ATK -10% -Brainquake MAG -5% -Cutspace MOV -5% -DEF Down combo DEF -10% -Dent Weapon ATK -5% -Divine MOV -10% -Enfeeble MAG -10% -Lion Smash DEF -10% -Rust Armor ATK -5% -Slow SPD -10% -SPD Down combo SPD -10% -Stay here! It's much simpler than it seems: Just buy a nugget with a "Fast" growth rate and C or above in both Size and Flavor stats, and raise it on X-Soda. NUGGET FEED LIST: Name Price Effect --------------------------------------------------------- Weeds 0z Very slow growth for both Size and Flavor. Hay 20z Slow growth for both Size and Flavor. Brown Rice 60z Medium growth, prioritizes Flavor over Size. Fatgrass 60z Medium growth, prioritizes Size over Flavor. Tofu Grass 100z Medium growth for both Size and Flavor. Vita Vine 100z Fast growth, prioritizes Size over Flavor. Yumyum Root 100z Fast growth, prioritizes Flavor over Size. X-Soda 200z Fast growth for both Size and Flavor. Note that based on the growth rate (Slow, Normal, Fast) and the particular rank the nugget has in that stat (such as D, C, B), the feeds will produce varying levels of effectiveness. X-Soda is always the best, though whether it will reliably result in a profit is questionable. However, the feeds don't always follow the rules above: sometimes nuggets will just grow differently. Just give them X-Soda and don't think too much about it. The antz placed in the Stockhouse do have an effect. The more and better quality the antz that staff it, the less often the nugget gets sick. If it gets sick, it needs to be cured with Multimeds, or it will die, although sometimes they will heal on their own. Understaffing the Stockhouse will result in nuggets getting sick VERY often. I'm not sure what effect feeding the nugget a snack (Fresh Meat, Confushroom, Poisonshroom, or Sleepyshroom) will do, besides Multimeds curing sickness. When sold, the nugget's base value (listed when examining it) is modified based on market fluctuations. The value added or subtracted is listed below, based on the Fairy's comments: NUGGET SALE PRICE LIST: Value Phrase (The market price...): --------------------------------------------------------- +50% "is through the roof! Sell sell sell!!" +25% "is quite high. Sell if yoo like!" +10% "is a little high. Too early to sell!" 0% "is about average. Watch and wait!" -10% "is a little low. Buy if yoo like." -25% "is quite low. Not a bad time to buy!" --------------------------------------------------------- 14.5 - FAIRY COLONY: ITEM RESEARCH LIST --------------------------------------------------------- A quick list of items produced by the Research: Item job. Depending on the SMT stat of the antz working there, each item will take approximately 10-25 enemy kills to be produced. The item research list can be reset by changing the shop to something else, then back to the Research job. This is a reasonably fast way to obtain 20 Gold XPs (the maximum that will stack the XP bonus). 1: Junk Sellable item: worth 25z. 2: Gold XP XP earned +5%; stacks to 100% maximum. 3: Stuffed Toy Sellable item: worth 250z. 4: Present Increase enemy item drop rate; effect may stack. 5: Mirage Bomb 20AP trap skill for Nina. 6: Tracker Displays enemies on minimap regardless of proximity. 7: Slapper Weapon for Nina, contains a physical attack. 8: Mirage Blast 30AP trap skill for Nina. ===================================== ========================================================================== 15: OTHER MISC. INFORMATION ========================================================================== ===================================== This section just has a bunch of lists that don't fit elsewhere, due to size, and various other tips and tidbits. Be careful, there are spoilers in here! More so than the rest of the guide, probably, due to things being easier to explain in detail. ------------------- SLAPPER AND CHOP!: NINA'S PHYSICAL ATTACK ------------------- Nina's "Slapper" weapon gives her a physical attack with respectable power, but poor accuracy. Still, it can give her (slightly) better options against magic-resistant enemies before she gets her Transfer skill. Oh, who am I kidding, it sucks. It's still interesting, though. ------------------- FULL STATUS RESISTANCE ARMOR DOESN'T BLOCK DEATH ------------------- The Protect Suit for Ryu, Divine Coat for Nina, and SaveQueen for Lin. They fully resist all status effects. But what the game doesn't tell you is they do NOT resist instant death, which is not considered a normal status effect. To block instant death attacks, you need Death Armor. Karon drops Deathproof+5 for Lin, while Death Gear and Check for the others can be found in a gold crate on the first screen of the Lifeline. ------------------- BARI SHELL/RING/RIBBON INFERIOR TO SNATCH ------------------- If you're collecting a variety of equipment, consider skipping the first- level Bari shields (Bari Shell/Ring/Ribbon, with Univ.Def-25%). These have low DEF and cost 15 AP, but the skill Snatch has the same Univ.Def-25% effect for the same 15 AP cost, but also has a chance to steal, and can be threaded into the high-DEF Riot Guard+7, Talisman+6, and Hymnal+6 shields from Kokon-Horay, compared to the weaker +3 max Bari shields (which amounts to 6 or less DEF). ------------------- SOUL SHELL, RING, AND RIBBON: WILLGUARD ------------------- These powerful-sounding shields are usually available from the weapon shop in the Cemetery, the final set of shops (and save point) in the game. They say that for the equip cost of 15% of your AP, they reduce all damage based on remaining HP. While they say they cost 15% AP to equip, they actually cost a flat 15 AP, like Snatch, or Bari Shell/Ring/Ribbon. The Soul shields reduce damage by a varying amount based on the percent of max HP remaining, starting at a lower reduction than the Bari Guard/Loop/Bangle, but once below 50% HP, becoming much stronger. Here are some numbers on damage reduction of Bari shields, Soul shields, and no shield wih Nina. Parameters: -194 max HP (half HP = 97) -86 DEF -Trilizard's Multi-Attack counterattack Control (no shield equipped): 68, 68, 36, 53, 53, 68, 62, 62, 40, 56, 56, 53, 36, 36, 51 36, 36, 51, 53, 53, 68, 40, 40, 56, 68, 68, 36, 51, 51, 46 avg damage of multi-attack: 51.7 dmg damage reduction percentage: 0% Bari Ring shield equipped (Reduces all damage by 25%): 29, 29, 41, 39, 39, 50, 26, 26, 37, 26, 26, 37, 39, 39, 50 34, 34, 45, 37, 37, 34, 37, 37, 34, 26, 26, 37, 29, 29, 41 avg damage of multi-attack: 35.0 dmg estimate based on control: 38.8 dmg damage reduction percentage: 32% Bari Loop shield equipped (Reduces all damage by 50%): 26, 26, 34, 20, 20, 28, 20, 20, 28, 28, 28, 26, 18, 31, 20 18, 18, 25, 18, 31, 20, 31, 31, 20, 23, 23, 31, 28, 28, 26 avg damage of multi-attack: 24.8 dmg estimate based on control: 25.9 dmg damage reduction percentage: 54% Soul Ring+1 shield equipped (2 DEF from the +1): 39, 39, 40, 41, 41, 30, 37, 37, 28, 45, 45, 20, 26, 26, 36 34, 34, 39, 50, 49, 17, 41, 41, 30, 34, 34, 39, 37, 37, 28 avg damage of multi-attack: 35.8 dmg damage reduction percentage: 31% Soul Ring+1 shield equipped, below 50% max HP: 14, 11, 15, 17, 13, 15, 14, 11, 13, 13, 11, 15, 12, 10, 12 26, 18, 9 , 19, 14, 15, 26, 17, 9 , 8 , 9 , 13, 27, 19, 13 avg damage of multi-attack: 14.6 dmg damage reduction percentage: 72% The conclusion from this data is that the Soul shields are slightly better than Bari Shell/Ring/Ribbon above 50% HP (and for the same AP cost, making those shields, and Snatch, mostly inferior), and much better than the Bari Guard/Loop/Bangle when below 50% HP. As the Soul Ring data from 50% HP or below was collected from varying points, ranging from exactly 50% to 28%, it's a reasonable conclusion that, in practice, the intended reduction of Soul shields is 25-30% above 50% HP, and 70-75% at or below 50% HP. There may be further reduction below 10% or 5% HP, similar to Reversal's boosts, but if so, they may be useless in practice as your HP would be so low as to let you die easily anyways. ------------------- RYU'S REVERSAL SKILL ------------------- This is a 20 AP attack only available on subsequent playthroughs, and it's extremely powerful. When above 25% of max HP, it does nothing. Below 25%, and it does 100% ATK damage, equivalent to a normal Slice attack. Below 12.5% and it does 200% ATK damage, which is equivalent to a Deathcleaver. It is strongest when below 6.25% of max HP though, when it reaches 300% ATK damage. Combined with the Soul shields as outlined above, it can make very short work of many enemies, so long as you carefully watch Ryu's HP to ensure he won't be killed. ------------------- INSTANT DEATH ATTACKS ------------------- Enemies have a pre-determined resistance to instant death. Most enemies, especially stronger ones, are immune entirely, while weaker ones have 25% or 50% vulnerability. A couple very weak and rare enemies (like LilLanternBat) have 75% vulnerability. Death attacks include: Ryu's "Great Smash" skill (found on the Legend Blade), Nina's "Death" spell (found on the Demonscythe), and Lin's "Go on! -> Kidding!" combo. While Nina's "Kyrie" spell (found only on the Holy Heart), does instantly kill, it only affects undead enemies, and operates on a separate resistance stat (Holy resistance, instead of Death). Enemies are either immune to Kyrie, or have a 100% vulnerability. ------------------- UNUSUAL ATTACK ELEMENTS ------------------- Although Mirage Bomb and Mirage Blast don't list what element they are, it can be determined by fighting a GooElement (or Prism, or Crystal), who's item drop changes based on the element. Hitting them with either Mirage skill will cause them to drop their Fire-element drop. Similarly, Nina's Ragnarok must be a universal attack, as it does not change their item at all. This is the same result for Ryu's dragon-form attacks, which explicitly state they are a "universal" attack. ------------------- SECRET ENEMY: MAGE CAPN ------------------- During the battle against the Rangers and Captain Zeno, if you kill Zeno without killing the Mage Capns that flank her, they will survive the battle, since it ends when Zeno dies. They are found in the southwestern room of the Storage area afterwards, and can be encountered like normal enemies. These are actually completely different enemies, just with the same name: they have less HP, lower power, and different items to steal, plus items to drop. Dropped items are Ranger Suit+5 and Magic Wand+3. An Escape is all there is to steal, though. ------------------- KILLING ENEMIES OUTSIDE OF BATTLE ------------------- Killing enemies outside of battle is possible when your ATK is high enough to overcome the enemy's DEF and HP and kill them in a single 100% power attack (Ryu's Slice or Lin's Hey, hey!). Killing enemies in this way avoids a battle, and rewards their entire base XP as party XP. Thus, an enemy that gives 50 XP will give 50 party XP when killed like this, HOWEVER they give NO normal XP. Achieving the level of ATK needed to use this against most enemies is almost impossible, however. The maximum functional ATK stat is 2000, but getting it above 300 can be a chore. Even with 2000 ATK, some enemies can only be killed like this by certain characters. For example, the Nerveman has too much HP for Ryu to kill, but Lin is able to kill it, due to the Nerveman's innate weakness to shot attacks. Other enemies, such as Trilizard, will only sometimes die like this, while other times will trigger combat. As a result of this, I believe that attacking enemies outside of combat calculates the damage for the 10AP circle attack on that enemy, and if it would kill them in one hit, they die. Since Trilizard is on the edge of one-hit-kill territory, it sometimes dies, and sometimes doesn't. Some odd things happen when killing like this, though. For example, killing regenerating undead will give party XP, but they will regenerate instantly back in their starting position. This can catch you off-guard if you're not prepared for them to appear somewhere else, and can lead to ambushes. Killing an undead master (such as Karon or Brokenheart) outside of battle will "break the curse," but the undead they control will remain until killed one last time (either outside or inside of battle). Some enemies, such as Duke Lord, are just too powerful and cannot be instantly killed like this. Due to the 2000 ATK cap, it is completely impossible to do this to them. ------------------- FAIRY VILLAGE: EXPLORER ------------------- This fairy village occupation has fallen from grace. While once a source of great items and equipment, it is now a bastion of failure and disappointment. The reason why? The items you can obtain are based on, from what all of my research has indicated, ENEMY ITEM DROPS. As in, the items enemies in that area would drop. This means there is nothing unique, and nothing you can't get normally. The vast majority of items brought back, even from TopSector, are PETS items like Fresh Meat and Bombs. What's worse is if you've been through the area, it seems to favor items that DID drop, ensuring you only get more of the crap you've already found. Plus, it also seems to work on a percentage system, wherein the more of an item there is, the more common it is. This means that weak enemies that are common will have their items favored when exploring. And the final nail in the coffin is that items that dropped BUT YOU DECLINED TO PICK UP are favored most of all, so you can be sure to get all that Junk (literally) you left behind in favor of stuff you actually wanted. ===================================== ========================================================================== 16: CONTACT INFORMATION ========================================================================== ===================================== My screenname is LancetJades on GameFAQs. Also updated contact information. 1.13 Completed January 29th, 2018. Listed locations for many of the remaining unknown weapons and armor max level versions. Clarified all of the Review Board's overall stats requirements for the prize, thanks to a Japanese fan site (which also corroborated many of my own findings on other things). Dyne_Nutari not only informed me of the Plasma Maser+4 (found by Wingilbert), but also pointed me to that site and others like it. ===================================== ========================================================================== 19: BOILERPLATE ========================================================================== ===================================== This document Copyright 2012-2018 John H.
