Background ------------- Lu Meng (pronounced 'Lou Ming') Lived 178 AD to 219 AD Bio: [Game Excerpt] A Wu Officer. Already an accomplished warrior, he devoted himself to learning and became a paradigm of wisdom and valor after being admonished by Sun Quan. He was greatly admired by his senior, Lu Su as a great servant of the Wu Kingdom. Together with Lu Xun they retook the Jing Provence, capturing the great Guan Yu in the Process. ------------ 2. Unlocking ------------ Beat Wu Musou Mode Chapter 1 with any Character on any difficulty level. The game will tell you he is unlocked after you beat The Yellow Turban Rebellion. ----------- 3. Overview ----------- Why would you want to play Lu Meng, you ask? Well Lu Meng is the only one in Wu who uses a spear-like weapon (a glaive, think a spear with a scythe). He isn't one of the best characters in the game, but is still worth playing. Here's a breakdown of his stats: Scale: Great Good Fair Poor Bad Main Stats: ----------- Life: Good, maxed out it is a little over the halfway mark without the peacock urn, with a good level peacock urn, you will be fine. Musou: Poor, on top of having a mediocre length bar, the musou attack itself is below average (see below). Attack: Great, This is where Lu Meng shines, his best stat. Defense: Good, his defense is all right, every now and then you will get rocked by a combo and wonder what just happened to a 1/3 of your life bar. Secondary Stats: ---------------- Speed: Fair, alittle on the slow side, but not by much, personally I equip a speed scroll on him, since I prefer ground combat. Reach: Good, uhhh he uses a spear :) Jump: Great, Jump isn't all that important, but since I can't jump 2 1/2 times my own height, he gets a great. Bow Attack: Fair? I don't know how to effectively test this, but I'm sure sooner or later someone will make a FAQ with a break down for all characters, but it gets it's job done when it needs too. Bow Defense: Fair, archers aren't as big of a problem in DW4 then they wear in DW3, you will be fine. Mounted Attack: Fair, Lu Meng isn't that good of a mounted combatant so the only time you will really use this is when your just running by. Mounted Defense: Fair, now with the shadow harness this stat isn't pointless, but Lu Meng isn't anything special on a horse. Other: ------ Voice Acting: Poor, the voice acting in the series has been mediocre at best, although not the worst voice (that goes to Sun Ce). He mainly sounds whiney and uninspired, especially in the most common one "Enemy Officer Defeated" (it gets pretty annoying), he does sound cool in a couple, but those are few and far between. Dueling: Good, well it all depends on how good at dueling you are. Lu Meng can take most officers with ease but Lu Bu still kicks his ass. Some Tips: Immediately start off with a charged attack, this will either hit your opponent down, or force them to block, screwing up their opening combo. Right afterward use your jump charge attack and follow that up with a Charge 3, they should be stun, preform either a Charge 1 or 4 on them next, then repeat if nessacery. A Blast orb isn't needed but will help out immensely on some of the tougher duels. ------------- 4. Moves List ------------- Key: ---- S = Square T = Triangle C = Circle Basic: ------ Dash Attack, forward for 7 steps + S: Lu Meng will straighten his spear out horizontally, and ram people with the shaft, twice the range on the left side. Use this when you come across the groups of 5 or so, it can work in a large crowd, but it will leave your back open and sometimes you will get hit. Jump Attack, X + S: 360 degree clockwise swing, starting from the top, it doesn't do much damage but knocks foes to the ground. Useful if you've just blown an officer away, but don't have enough time to run around to his back. Jump Charge, X + T: New to Dynasty Warriors series is the jumping charge attack, Lu Meng will do a forward flip and slam his glaive straight into the ground. Be aware you will fail about 1/2 the time you try to use it. It is best use if you've just recovered from a fall, or are trying to get on a horse. Musou, C: Lu Meng will swing his spear in an 'X' fashion, and slowly move forward (hold down C for repeated strikes). He will then do a full swing from right to left, and quickly jab with the butt end of the staff. The reason it sucks is: normally troops are hit back by the first set of 'X' strikes, and since Meng walks so slowing, and that the attacks themselves have about 1/2 the reach of his normal attacks they probably wont be hit again. The ending move is also poor, it doesn't have the double reach most of the other characters end Musou do, and it only covers a small area in front of Lu Meng. It is decent on Officers but bad on crowds. True Musou, C + Red health: This is a little better, still the same as above but you get more range and a fire element. The only change is at the end where he does another jab. Raise Bow, R1: hold on a target without firing to zoom, X, S, And C all do generic character attacks. Mounted Attack, Horse + S: Pretty generic, he swings his spear from side to side starting on the right, it can last for the max hits of your weapon. Mounted Charge, Horse + T: Same as above, but takes longer to do and will only be 1 swipe per side, pretty useless, even on the shadow. Mounted Musou, Horse + C: Same as charged attack, but can be done for as long as your musou bar lasts, keep in mind the horse will pause for a second when your done. Regular Charge, C: A VERY useful attack that charges quickly. Lu Meng will pull back his left hand then thrust it out, and out pops a projectile that will go a little over 3 times the reach of his spear. If the projectile hits an ally unit it just vanishes. What Projectile that pops out is dependent on your orb and musou meter. -No orb, or not filled Musou Meter: A blue arrowhead looking thingy, will only hit one target for moderate damage. -Fire Orb: Sends out a wave of fire. Does decent damage and looks pretty cool, but there are better options out there. -Lightning Orb: Amazing attack, Lu Meng will shot out a few 'lightning balls' that will do decent damage to whoever they directly connect with, then the lightning bolts rain down and knock down have the crowed. VERY useful, have and officer surround by guards? Well just send a couple of this there way, the officer should block, but all his guards should be down on the ground, leaving him open to a hassle free combo. -Ice Orb: Not nearly as useful as lightning, Lu Meng will shot out a huge 'ice wave' it does decent damage and can freeze. -Vorpal Orb: Shoots out a mean looking purple thing similar to the no orb shot, it does good damage and has chance to instant kill. -Blast Orb: Not good, although it looks pretty cool, just like the orb in fact. -Poison Orb: Poison Orb isn't even worth equipping even to see this attack. But if you must know it looks kinda like smog, but by the time you reach who you just infected, they are cured :( Combo: ------ Button Mashing, Sx6: Lu Meng will start off with a swing from left to right, then come back right to left, both covering about 190 degrees. He then spins and does a quick jab with the butt of the spear, next he will spin again and upward diagonal swipe starting from the right. Then quickly do a "sweeping" spin move with the spear, then end it with a upward swipe going from right to left, with more range on the right. Charge 2, ST: A left to right slash followed by and upward swing that throws them into the air. You can then do a follow-up slash in midair. Charge 3, Sx2T(T): After the left to right then right to left horizontal swipes, then does a set of 'X' pattern swipes, if you hit T again you will get a couple more sets of 'X' swipes. Then ends with a upward swing, it stuns so you can combo again, this is a very useful attack and you will probably use it a lot. Charge 4, Sx3T: Not very good, after the standard left/right swings, he does a low range jab followed by a quick 360 degree spin, but with low range, it will launch most targets away, only useful if surrounded. Charge 5, Sx4T(T): Good against a single enemy, after the jab he will do a violent upward swing, launching them into the air, you can then do a follow-up slash, and if you hit T again you will preform your Jump Charge attack. Charge 6, Sx5T: After the "sweeping' move, Lu Meng will slam his spear into the ground, similar to his jump charge, VERY good if surrounded. ---------- 5. Weapons ---------- In Dynasty Warriors 4 your weapon 'grows' by experience gained when either defeating an officer or successfully preforming a combo (musou combos count as well), reversal, or charged attack on them. Weapon Experience Needed and Effects: ------------------------------------------------------ |Level1 |0 |Glaive |+14 Attack |4 Hits Max | |Level2 |1000 |Glaive |+18 Attack |4 Hits Max | |Level3 |3000 |Glaive |+21 Attack |4 Hits Max | |Level4 |6000 |Great Glaive |+25 Attack |5 Hits Max | |Level5 |10000 |Great Glaive |+28 Attack |5 Hits Max | |Level6 |15000 |Great Glaive |+31 Attack |5 Hits Max | |Level7 |21000 |Sky Hook |+40 Attack |6 Hits Max | |Level8 |28000 |Sky Hook |+43 Attack |6 Hits Max | |Level9 |36000 |Sky Hook |+47 Attack |6 Hits Max | |Level10 | Need to unlock, see below: | ------------------------------------------------------ How to Unlock Lu Meng's Level 10 Weapon: ---------------------------------------- Basic Stuff: -Set the game to hard. -The current weapon must be level 9. -Keep Morale high. -You can play with 2 players, but Lu Meng must fulfill all requirements. -Free or Musou mode. Lu Meng's level 10 weapon Stage: The Battle of Mai Castle - Wu side The Battle of Mai Castle is the only stage of the Wu Tale: Guan Yu, The God of War. How to Unlock: -Complete the Wu Musou mode once. -In act 4, play The Battle of Chi Bi first, ensure the fire attack's success. -In Act 5, play the Battle of Yi Ling first, ensure the fire attack's success. -After you complete Yi Ling you will play The Battle of Mia Castle. I strongly recommend the Shadow harness for this stage, it's very annoying to complete without it. I also recommend not using bodyguards, if they accidentally kill any of the officers, you will not get the weapon. As you start the stage, head north. Liao Hua will try to escape to get reinforcements, and you will be ordered to stop him. *IGNORE* the order, instead go to the castle's North entrance. Kill the guard captain, enter and go right. Follow the wall until you come to a gate, dismount and kill the gate captain. Wang Fu, Gaun Ping(required), and Jiang Wei(required), will come to attack you, try to kill them. During this time Liao Hua will come back with reinforcements, and you will see an event of Guan Yu starting to escape. *Note:* At this point it is more important to stop Guan Yu's escape, if you haven't killed the officers yet, don't worry you'll have another shot. Now hurry to the South Castle Gate, and kill the captain there, the game will tell you Guan Yu has altered his escape route, it's now the Gate to the Far North of the map. Haul ass there, and kill the captains. Guan Yu will again alter his route, this time to the far South of the map. As you head south, kill Liao Hua(required) and Liu Feng(required). Don't worry about Guan Yu escaping, as he nears the South Gate, Pan Zhang will appear for you side, and buy you some time. Head South through the castle, as you enter Guan Suo and Jian Yong will ambush you, kill the both, continue south (run past Zhou Chang). Go to the South Gate and kill the captain, Zhang Fei will appear (DO NOT KILL HIM YET), him and Guan Yu will charge Sun Jian. Ignore them for now, go back to the castle and kill Zhou Chang(required) and anyone else you missed. When every Shu officer is dead except Zhang Fei and Guan Yu, go ahead and kill Zhang Fei(Required). You should get the message: "Lu Meng has gained the ultimate weapon White Tiger." (if you didn't check below). Now, to finish just hunt down Guan Yu, he will be on the Southeast path heading north. Quick Step by Step: -Let Liao Hua escape to get reinforcements. -Liao Hua Returns with reinforcements. -Guan Yu's Starts escape event. -Stop Guan Yu's Escape. Kill the North Castle Gate captain, then the South Castle Gate captain, then the Far North Map Gate captain. -Go South Through castle, Guan Suo and Jian Yong ambush, kill them. -Kill Far South Map Gate captian. -Kill the following officers: Guan Ping, Jiang Wei, Liao Hua, Liu Feng, Guan Suo, Jian Yong, and Zhou Chang and their subofficers. -When they are all dead kill Zhang Fei. -Got Weapon Message. If you didn't get the message it could be because: -Lu Meng didn't *PERSONALLY* kill Guan Ping, Jiang Wei, Liao Hua, Liu Feng, Guan Suo, Jian Yong, Zhou Chang or Zhang Fei and their subofficers. -You didn't kill Zhang Fei last. -The game isn't on hard. -Your current weapon isn't level 9. Weapon Info: White Tiger +54 Attack 6 Hits Max Can use orb element regardless of musou bar. -------- 6. Items -------- In Dynasty Warriors 4 you have a harness slot, a orb slot, and a number of item slots. The number of item slots is dependent on your rank and character. At rank MAX Lu Meng has 5 total. Item Slots x5: 2 slots initial, 3rd unlocked at Rank 12, 4th unlocked at Rank 7, 5th unlocked at Rank MAX. Recommended for normal use: --------------------------- Harness: Shadow or Storm(preferred first) Orb: Lighting, Vorpal, Fire Items: Tortoise Amulet Peacok Urn Tiger Amulet Elixer or Speed Scroll Wind Scroll or Way of the Musou Orbs: ----- All 3 listed work very well with his normal charge attack (see above), but lightning tops it off as it makes crowd clearing very easy, and looks cool as well. You could probably use ice if you want, but blast and poison are near useless in most situations. Very useless in the case of poison, even if you have a level 4 poison orb and no other orbs, still don't use it, it's that bad. Items: ------ The ones listed are for a well rounded character, if your going to stay on a horse the whole time you might want to take a horned helmet and some calavery armour (useful... kinda :). If one of your items is at a much higher level then another, use that one instead. But any setup should include both the Peacock Urn and the Tortoise Amulet, as they will really help keep you alive. --------- 7. Models --------- 1. Unlock: Initial Wears armour that is mostly red and gold, there is some white and black trim. Wears a gold headband. 2. Unlock: Rank 12 Same as above, except gold is switched with silver and he now wears purple pants. 3. Unlock: Rank 7 Same as the first one, only wearing a red-orange turban with a gold headband. 4. Unlock: Rank 7 Same as second one, only wearing a red turban with a silver headband. 5. Unlock: Rank MAX Same model as in Dynasty Warriors 3, only without the crazy hair. 6. Unlock: Rank MAX Same as fifth, but purple pants and arms, no green, and silver replaces gold. --------- 8. Quotes --------- Some of Lu Meng's quotes I remember from playing. Defeats Officer: "Enemy Officer Defeated." Annocement: "Come!" Dual Challenge: "There Are No Formalities in Battle." Dual Accept: "A dual? I Accept!" Approach Alone: "Attacking alone?
