Basically, all you have to do is a 'donut'. Hold down SQUARE and X and push either left or right on your analog stick. Just keep it going until the timer runs out. Try not to hit any cones. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |1.2 The 180 |----------- The object of this mission is to do a "180". You have to do a 180 degree turn near the end of the line of cones. In the middle of the testing area are 3 cones. As soon as you get to the third one, hit the handbrake (R1). Then, drive carefully into the square of cones where you started. Hitting any cones gives will inflict a damage penalty, which affects your score. You don't want that. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |1.3 Whip and Terminate |----------- Ok, this is pretty easy. As soon as you get to the corner, brake. Then carefully maneuver yourself into your cone lined goal. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |1.4 Pop and Control |----------- Easy stuff. As soon as your car completely passes over the spikes on the floor, let go of the accelerator. Move yourself around the cones and carefully into the goal. You may want to use the acceleration to help control the car at times. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |1.5 Burn and Lap |----------- Ok, for this one, you need to do 5 laps of the course. At the corners, make sure you hold your handbrake so you perform a handbrake turn. If you go massively off course, the lap doesn't count, so be careful to stay within the boundary of the cones. Going into first-person view on this level helped me, too. You may want to try experimenting with the camera angles. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 4/10 ------ |----------- |1.6 Cone Coil |----------- This is a tricky mission. You need to weave your way in and out of the cones. When you get to the turning at the end, do a handbrake turn and head back the same way you came down. Watch the clock, and mind the cones. ------- Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 5/10 ------ |----------- |1.7 The '90' |----------- I guess you could call this parallel parking. Maybe not. This is tough to get the timing right, but its quite easy after your first try. Watch the little demo movie before you attempt the mission and watch where the CPU decides to brake. You might want to steer your car a little to the right to get a better position for when you do your parallel park. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 5/10 ------ |----------- |1.8 Wheelie Weave |----------- Dang, this is quite hard. If you think you could reverse to get more speed up, you're wrong. As soon as you start, move ever so slightly to the left so that you're actually touching the ramp. Something I’ve found useful, is to brake a little just as you're coming off the ramp. The tricky part is actually stopping in the circle. Just make sure you can clearly see where the front of your car is in relation to the goal, because as soon as all 4 wheels hit the floor, it's mission over. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 6/10 ------ |----------- |1.9 Spin and Go |----------- This is quite easy. Hit R2 and L2 to look behind you as soon as the test starts. As soon as you reach the end of the cones that you're in, start turning whilst still holding SQUARE. Then, when you're near enough facing forwards, hit the accelerator and stop near the end. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 4/10 ------ |----------- |1.10 P.I.T Maneuver |----------- This takes a few tries, but isn't all that hard. I actually got gold on this one. Start driving to catch up with the other cop car. I aim to get on the right side of it. When you're lined up about halfway with the car, hit the handbrake and left on the analog stick. You should both end up touching (near enough) and facing opposite directions. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 4/10 ------ |----------- |1.11 Alley Oop |----------- Yeah, so this is starting to turn into some sort of stunts event. You need to land this PERFECTLY to just pass. Jesus. That means, that you can't have any part of your car besides the wheels hit the floor. Anyway, drive up to the ramp, and get about half of your car lined up with the LEFT side of it (so basically half of your car is on the ramp and half isn't). When you get off the ramp, take your finger off the accelerator and try to adjust the car's path. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 6/10 ------ |----------- |1.12 City Slicking |----------- This mission is quite stupid if you ask me. You're set a virtually impossible task. Unfortunately, tips are all I can give you for this. Near the beginning of the test, use the tram track in the middle of the street to drive down. Cars don't go on it and you've got a pretty clear road if you take it. Just remember to watch out for the trams. DON'T get a wanted level. Cops will ram your car, thus, giving you damage. Also, DO NOT STOP your car UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This will, strangely, fail the test. If you crash, simply hit reverse or the accelerator, depending on how you crashed. Good luck. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 8/10 ------ Congratulations! If you've done all of the above, then you've completed the driving school! ********* *BOATING* ********* |----------- |2.1 Basic Seamanship |----------- This is easy. Accelerate forwards. As soon as you reach the parallel buoys, hit SQUARE (reverse throttle). You should come to a stop in a region that is good enough to get you at least a gold. ------ Pass Grade: Finish Under 12 Seconds Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |2.2 Plot A Course |----------- Depending on how good you are at driving boats in GTA, this is fairly easy. Carefully navigate through the buoys (making sure not to hit them). Use R1 to perform sharper turns round corners, and also try letting go of the accelerator to help too. ------ Pass Grade: Finish Under 40 Seconds Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |2.3 Fresh Slalom |----------- Navigate your way through the pairs of buoys. Be careful not to hit them and also try to avoid the boats. I do not think the boats give you a damage penalty, they just get in the way. Be aware of the time too, if your time is over 120 seconds you won't pass. ------ Pass Grade: Finish Under 120 Seconds Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |2.4 Flying Fish |----------- This one is easier than I thought. This works best if you get a good, steady run up to the ramp. Get out of your starting area, and head over to the right. Do not go past the red legs of the bridge as you'll just overshoot your goal. You have plenty of time so that is not a worry. When you land, hit reverse throttle (SQUARE) to make sure you ground to a steady halt in the designated area. ------ Pass Grade: Jump at least 55 meters Difficulty: 2/10 ------ |----------- |2.5 Land, Sea and Air |----------- There couldn't be less land in this test. As usual, navigate your way through the various buoys. Also ramps have been added to this mission. Be careful going over them when there are buoys on the other side as you may lose control and hit them. Use the right analog stick to move the camera to make sure you aren't touching any obstacles when you ride through them. ------ Pass Grade: Finish Under 180 Seconds Difficulty: 1/10 ------ And there you go, the end of the boating missions. ******** *BIKING* ******** ------ Pass Grade: Finish Under 180 Seconds Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |3.1 The 360 |----------- So, this mission is easy. Basically, all you have to do is a 'donut'. Hold down SQUARE and X and push either left or right on your analog stick. Just keep it going until the timer runs out. Try not to hit any cones. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |3.2 The 180 |----------- The object of this mission is to do a "180". ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |3.3 The Wheelie |----------- This is quite self explanatory. You have to do a wheelie on your bike along the coned area in the middle of the course. Make sure the back end of your bike isn't touching the floor (you'll see it spark) and you should be ok. Make a steady stop in the designated area at the end and expect a high mark. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |3.4 Jump and Stop |----------- This one is easy stuff. Accelerate up and over the ramp. Whilst you're in the air, push forward on the left analog stick a little to adjust how the bike is going to land. Make a clean stop in the ending zone. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |3.5 The Stoppie |----------- Stoppies, great. Quite hard this one. Accelerate towards the coned area in the centre. As soon as you get in line with the cones, press up on your left analog stick and TAP square. Get ready to lose control at the end of the stoppie, but control can be easily regained to get a high mark at the end, as long as you land in your target zone. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |3.6 Jump and Stoppie |----------- Dang, this is hard. As soon as you get off the ramp, take your finger off the accelerator, and press up on the left analog stick. As soon as you hit the floor, hit square. It's tough, but possible. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 5/10 ------ Well done! You've completed yet another schooling session. ******* *PLANE* ******* |----------- |4.1 Takeoff |----------- This is actually quite easy depending on your basic flying skills. You have to fly through 3 "coronas", after taking off. Just keep steady and remember to move the camera around to position yourself. Also, don't unnecessarily turn the plane, keep it straight most of the time, as you only need to do minimal adjustments to its heading. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 2/10 ------ |----------- |4.2 Land Plane |----------- Easy stuff. Go through the corona to get an idea of the altitude you should be at. Immediately press square to decrease speed. You can pull back on the left analog stick to adjust the rate of descent. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |4.3 Circle Airstrip |----------- A tough one, compared to the others. But this is still relatively easy. You have to navigate your way around the "coronas" that surround the airstrip. I would recommend going counter-clockwise and using first person view to help you navigate your way better, but its up to you. A pilots license is obtained after completing this test, allowing you into the airports =D ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |4.4 Circle Airstrip and Land |----------- I personally thought this mission was hard. I eventually did it by going into first person to go through the rings. Then, after the last ring, go back to normal view. As soon as you get above the airfield, hit square and start heading onto the runway. Make sure you land in the red area to guarantee a pass. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 5/10 ------ |----------- |4.5 Helicopter Takeoff |----------- This isn't too hard.. Press X to takeoff into the air. Rotate 180 degrees, then when the yellow dot appears on your map, navigate forward into the corona. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 1/10 ------ |----------- |4.6 Land Helicopter |----------- This one relies on how quickly you do it. As long as you land in the red area you will pass. At the start, go a bit closer to the runway (lower). Press SQUARE when the "Press X Now" message comes up. Also, when you are above the target zone, hit L3 to level things up. Then just hold square until you land. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 2/10 ------ |----------- |4.7 Destroy Targets |----------- Again, when you start off, descend closer to the runway and get your speed down quite slow (press SQUARE). This will give you an advantage, basically, as you are closer to the targets. Destroy the 3 trucks then do a 180 then move onto the moving ones. Get quite low to the moving cars and use your (awesome) rockets. Then land it in the target area. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |4.8 Loop the Loop |----------- This was a fun mission, but a little tough too. Just follow the on screen queues and you should be fine. As soon as you get out of the first "corona" IMMEDIATELY pull back on L3. You may lose control when you come out of the loop the loop maneuver, but you should get the hang of it after a few tries. Either that or you'll get lucky on your first go. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 3/10 ------ |----------- |4.9 Barrel Roll |----------- This is the same concept as the Loop the Loop test. As soon as you get through the first "corona", hit left on your L3 analog stick. Again, control may be lost when you're coming out of the barrel roll, but keep it steady. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 4/10 ------ |----------- |4.10 Parachute Onto Target |----------- Timing is essential for this one. At the start, spend about 10 seconds pushing forward on the L3 analog stick (freefalling forwards), so you get vertically lined up in relation to the target, enough to make a good landing. When the message to pull the parachute cord comes up, do it. You may also want to occasionally pull back on L3 (slow down descent) to make sure you get your heading right. ------ Pass Grade: 70% or higher Difficulty: 4/10 ------ Congratulations! You've completed flying school. Your reward? Your pilots license! ****** *MISC* ****** |----------- |5.1 School Locations |----------- -Driving School: The driving school is located in Doherty, San Fierro. I was introduced to the driving school after the "Are you going to San Fierro?" mission. Times may vary for you. -Bike School: The bike school is located near Las Venturas Airport, Las Venturas. (Blackfield). It is unlocked when the city of Las Venturas is unlocked. -Boat School: The boat school is located in the top left corner of the map (Tierra Robada, Las Venturas). The boat school is unlocked when the city of Las Venturas is unlocked. -Plane School: The plane school is located in the "Airport Graveyard", middle-north on the map of Las Venturas. The school itself is located next to a red/white tower. The plane school is unlocked for purchase after the "Verdant Meadows" mission. |----------- |5.2 School Rewards |----------- So contrary to (my) own belief, you *do* actually gain various rewards for completing the various schools. The details of these are below: -Driving Bronze or better awards: Super GT Silver or better awards: Bullet All Gold: Hotknife Once the driving school is completed, these cars appear in the parking lot outside of the driving school. -Biking Bronze or better awards: Freeway Silver or better awards: FCR-900 All Gold: NRG-500 Once completed, these vehicles appear to the left side of the bike school entrance. -Flying Bronze or better awards: Rustler Silver or better awards: Stunt Plane All Gold: Hunter Once the flying school has been passed, any unlocked vehicles appear in the hangars next to the runway, located near the flying school. -Boating Bronze or better awards: Marquis Silver or better awards: Squallo All Gold: Jetmax Upon successful completion, the various boats appear at a close dock. The dock is due north of the boat school. |----------- |5.3 Question Time |----------- Q. How do I unlock Venturas/San Fierro? A. This isn't the intention of this guide. Check out a general guide. Q. What do the "skill" points do? A. BMX/Motorbike points give you privileges such as harder to fall off your bike etc. I'm not sure what the others would do. Q. How do I obtain these crazy "skill" points? A. Ride the vehicle. Depending on how little you crash/fall out of your vehicle, your "skill" points will slowly increase. Q. Can I have your MSN? A. No. Q. Do any of the schools cost me money? A. Nope. Q. Do I get anything besides "skill" points for completing a school? A. Yup. Check the "School Rewards" section. Q. Do I need to complete the school tests to get 100%? A. There aren't any entries for the various schools in your stats, so I would say no. I'll double-check the stats thing though. /** |Thanks to R* & R* North for making such an awesome game |Thanks to Matt White, Steven Thompson \** © AntHrt 2004
