INTRO Hello, this is my FAQ for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. This FAQ may only be found at www.gamefaqs.com and www.neoseeker.com. If you see this FAQ on any other site, please e-mail straight away at the above address. Grand Theft Auto is a trademark of Rockstar Games. GRAND THEFT AUTO: VICE CITY *taken from back of game case Welcome to the 1980's and Vice City, a huge urban sprawl stretching from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, a town brimming with delights and degradation. Having just made it back onto the streets of Liberty City after a long stretch inside, Tommy Vercetti is sent to Vice City by his old boss, Sonny Forelli. But all does not go smoothly upon his arrival in the glamorous, hedonistic metropolis of Vice City. Tommy is set up and losses everything. Sonny wants his money back, but the biker gangs, Cuban gangsters, and corrupt politicians stand in his way. Most of Vice City seems to want Tommy dead. His only answer is to fight back and take over the city himself. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. GENERAL STRATEGIES AND TIPS Always accelerate to the maximum while doing missions. As some of them are timed, you don't do yourself any favours waiting at traffic lights and waiting for people to cross the roads. If anything gets in your way, go through it! During the game, you will no doubt become wanted by the police. You can see your wanted level, indicated by six stars. The more law-breaking you do, the more stars light up. Here is a quick guide to the stars and what they mean. 1 STAR ------ You get this for minor offences, such as jacking a car in front of a cop. While on 1 star, the cops will try to catch you, but they don't usually succeed. After a while, the star will disappear and you won't be wanted, as you only committed a minor offence. 2 STARS ------- If you commit something a bit more serious, such as shooting and killing a cop or slaughtering innocent pedestrians, the police will hunt a little harder for you. They will send more cars after you and shoot you on site. The stars do not go away, so if you don't have a police bribe it may be worth heading to a Paint 'N' Spray. 3 STARS ------- If you annoy the cops too much, they'll put your rating up to three stars. As well as sending in the 2 star police force, they'll send in extra officers. If this wasn't enough, they'll send a couple of helicopters after you. Get to your hideout if you can and try to reach a Paint 'N' Spray fairly quickly. 4 STARS ------- Oh, now you've done it! The police will throw everything they have at you, and they'll also send in the SWAT teams, armed with MP5s. Get to a Paint 'N' Spray now! 5 STARS ------- Uh oh. You've been such a bad boy that you are now nationally wanted by the FBI! So now you have FBI agents, SWAT teams and the entire police force on your back. You must get to a Paint 'N' Spray or you won't last long. 6 STARS ------- Bloody hell! You've pissed off the police so much that they've called the army! Now you must flee from tanks, army trucks, FBI agents, SWAT teams and a massive police force. You're pretty much screwed, so die with honour or consider committing suicide. Don't be afraid to jack things or blow them up. The police don't usually come until you've committed about 5 murders and 1 car jack isn't going to pull them away from their doughnuts. If you see a nice set of wheels, take them! If you have the money, head to Ammu-Nation and buy some weapons. You'll need them later on, and it will make missions a lot easier. Body Armour is also very useful. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. RADIO STATIONS All these radio stations have an 80's theme (duh), so don't expect to find any of the music that you listen to today. Unless you still listen to 80's music. Press L1 to change station, or turn the radio off completely. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. WEAPON INFORMATION GTA:VC is full of many wonderful items of destruction and delight, for example, you could beat an old lady's face in with a bat, or mangle up a hippie with a chainsaw. You can also use weapons to render a car useless, such as blowing out a tyre with a Sniper Rifle. I will add more to the list as I find them. The weapons are divided into 8 categories, and you can only hold one of each (8 weapons in total). Your other weapons will be stored at your hideout. ============================================================================ | * MELEE * | |============================================================================| | WEAPON NAME | DESCRIPTION/EFFECT/USES | |----------------|-----------------------------------------------------------| | Screwdriver | A basic screwdriver that can be used to stab people | | Golf Club | A club that can be used to hurt and kill enemies quickly | | Meat Cleaver | Great for hacking up innocent pedestrians! | | Night Stick | A weapon used by police that's great for beating people | | Baseball Bat | Use this bat to smack some sense into people. CHARACTER INFORMATION ========== CHARACTERS ========== Coming soon! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 8. WALKTHROUGH First thing's first, you need to get to the hotel. If you don't know where it is (you probably don't), use the radar - the hotel is the pink blip. When you arrive, go inside where you will see a cut-scene. Once it is over, you need to go to the Lawyer's office. It is indicated by a large 'L' on the radar, and is located in the Washington Beach area. *NOTE - some people that you work for appear every now and again, so you may do their missions in bits (e.g. Avery Carrington). For example, you may do two of the missions for them, then they will disappear. They will then return later on. The mission guides below are grouped, and are not necessarily the order in which you will do them. ============= KEN ROSENBERG ============= THE PARTY - REWARD $100 ----------------------- After the conversation between Ken and Tommy, you need to head over to Cortez's yacht. Before you do this, however, you will need to make a stop at Rafael's. He will give you a blue suit. It's the same one from all the screenshots that you may have seen. After visiting Rafael in Washington Beach, a biker will show up. Now you have to go to the Colonel's yacht, so take the bike and head for the yacht - it's the pink blip on the radar. When you arrive, you will see a cut-scene of Juan and his daughter, Mercedes. Once the cut-scene is over, you need to take Mercedes to a club named 'Pole Position'. Using your bike or car (which ever one you have), take Mercedes to the nearby club and drop her off to complete the mission. Head back to Ken Rosenberg to see a cut-scene. BACK ALLEY BRAWL - REWARD $200 ------------------------------ After the cut-scene, you will need to go and meet Kent at the club named 'Malibu'. It is indicated on your radar. When you arrive, go inside and watch the cut-scene. After it you must head to Ocean Drive and meet the chef down the alley in Ocean Drive. To find it, just head towards the yellow blip on the radar. Once you arrive, smash the chef's face in, and take the cellphone that he drops. After the short cut-scene, kill the other chefs that have arrived and take any weapons that they drop. Follow Lance and take his car. You must now drive him to Ammu-nation, in Vice Point. If you don't know where it is, head towards the gun on the radar. Head inside and take whatever you need. When you're done, simply return to your hotel to complete the mission. Head back to Ken Rosenberg to see a cut-scene. JURY FURY - REWARD $400 ----------------------- After the cut-scene, leave Ken's office to see a short cut-scene. Collect the hammer and head to one of the two yellow blips on the radar. They are the jurors, and your objective in this mission is to destroy their cars, so let's go! When you get to one of them, start smashing up the car with your hammer. Once it's destroyed, head to the other car. Once again, destroy this with the hammer to receive your reward money and complete your mission. After completing this mission, you new cellphone should ring, so answer it when it does. After the conversation between Tommy and Sonny, you will now be able to do some more missions by going to and answering the payphone near the mall in Washington Beach. For the strategies to these missions, check the Assassinations section later on in the Walkthrough. Head back to Ken Rosenberg to see a cut-scene. RIOT - REWARD $1000 ------------------- After the cut-scene, leave the office and get on your bike or in your car. First call is Rafael's. Head over there and collect your new clothes. Now head over to the small island near Washington Beach, where you will need to start a riot. The easiest way to do this is waste the four workers first. Either kill them with guns, or squish them in your car. Once they're dead you will need to destroy the vans in the area. The easiest and most enjoyable way of doing this is destroying the barrels near the two vans. Fire a couple of shots at it and KABOOM! However, there is one more van to destroy. Either get in the van and smash in against a wall a times until flames come out of it and then bail, letting it destroy itself, or you can just blast away at it will pistols until it explodes. The first way saves ammo, but the second way is more fun. Once the vans are destroyed you will have completed the mission. Yay. Now you have completed all the missions for Ken Rosenberg, you will not need to return there. Avery Carrington is now open to offer you work, but to complete the Main Story, you need to work for The Colonel - Juan Garcia Cortez. He is situated on his yacht that you saw earlier, and is shown as a large 'C' on the radar. Save your game back at the hotel if you wish and head over to him. =============================== THE COLONEL, JUAN GARCIA CORTEZ =============================== TREACHEROUS SWINE - REWARD $250 ------------------------------- Cortez tells you that he has discovered who stole your money. He tells you that Gonzalez has the cash and that you must dispose of him. Follow the pink blip on your radar to the northern part of the island where you will find his penthouse. Go inside and you will find the 'swine' at the pool on the rooftop. He flees and sets his two guards on you. Quickly kill them with any weapons that you have. Chase Gonzalez and take him out. You can simply jack a car and run him over, or you can have some fun and use the chainsaw. If you choose to use this, deselect the weapon so that you can catch up with him, as running with the Chainsaw slows you down. Smack him to the ground and then let him have it. Once he's dead, you will have a Wanted Level of 2. Quickly get a car and head north to the Paint 'N' Spray in Vice Point. Once you're clean, you complete the mission and get your money. MALL SHOOTOUT - REWARD $500 --------------------------- The Colonel will send you to the Washington Mall in Ocean Beach to meet a French Courier. First, head to Ammu-Nation and buy some Armour and a couple Ingram Mac 10s. Once you are stocked up, head to the mall in Ocean Beach. Go inside and follow the yellow triangular blip. If a blip is triangular, it means that the target is either above or below you). As you cannot go down, head up the escalator and talk to the Courier. A French SWAT team will suddenly attack while the Courier flees. Run around or jump over the SWAT members on the elevator and chase after the Courier, as you need the chips that he's carrying. You will have a Wanted Level of 2 for being involved in the SWAT team's attack, so move fast. Go out into the parking lot and jack the quickest car that you can find, then set off after the Frenchman. When you catch him, waste him by either destroying his car using drive-by shootings, or knocking him off of his motorcycle (which ever one he has). Once he's dead, quickly get out of your car and grab the briefcase before too many cops arrive. Because your Wanted Level is at 2, you either need to get to a Paint 'N' Spray, or get back to the Colonel, as your Wanted Level will be erased after completing the mission. If you are confident, forget about the Paint 'N' Spray and just head towards the pink blip. Otherwise, feel free to use the Paint 'N' Spray. Either way, you complete the mission upon returning the chips to Cortez and receive your money. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 9. EXTRAS ================ AVERY CARRINGTON ================ FOUR IRON - REWARD $500 ----------------------- Avery sits and waits for you inside his limo at the construction site in Vice Point. He wants you to take care of some trouble for him on the local golf course. Guns are not permitted there, which makes it a good opportunity to take care of the target without his bodyguards interfering. Follow the blue T-Shirt icon to get some golfing clothes, then head for the Leaf Links Golf Club (follow the pink blip on the radar). It's located just west of Vice Point, a little southeast of Prawn Island. As you pass through security, all of your firearms will be checked at the door - you can collect them at the same location when you leave. Brass knuckles, swords, and knives will, however, make it past security. You will find a golf club as you pass through security, but you will also receive one whenever you enter a Caddy, provided your Melee slot is empty. Follow the yellow blip until you find your mark's guards, then whack them with a golf club or anything else you have, and he'll flee in a golf cart. Find your own Caddy and pursue him closely. His many guards will also jump into Caddies and chase you - some will even follow on foot. Run over the guards on foot and continue to chase the target (the yellow blip). If you take too long, he'll exit through the security checkpoint, find a car and take to the streets. If he gets too far away, you will fail the mission. Before hopping into a car to chase him, make sure to pick up your weapons at the security checkpoint so that you can perform drive-by shootings against the target. Bring down the target and Avery gives you $500. DEMOLTION MAN - REWARD $1000 ---------------------------- Avery asks you to get rid of an office building that's occupying some land he wants. Follow the pink blip to the Top Fun van located in Vice Point and jump in. The van is rigged with controls that enable you to fly an RC helicopter. You can use the helicopter to carry demolition charges over to the construction site. Follow the blips to the site across the street and plant all of the charges on the various floors of the building being constructed. The only catch is that there is a time limit to the mission. Uh oh. Anyway, the seven-minute limit is triggered once you pick up the first demolition charge. Your best bet is to plant the explosives from the top floor down, giving you more time to complete the final drop-off. Once you find the stairways that lead up, the next set of stairs is always adjacent to the flight that leads you to the floor that you're on. The entire stair structure is set up this way. Once you master the stairway-navigation, the mission becomes a walk in the park. Watch out for the construction workers - they will happily chase down your RC helicopter and destroy it. A few security guards have guns. Use the rotating blades to hack them up. Completing this mission earns you your reward of $1000. TWO BIT HIT - REWARD $2500 -------------------------- Avery introduces you to Donald Love (from Grand Theft Auto 3). He wants you to start a gang war between the Cubans and the Haitians. Start by changing into a Cuban uniform. Head to Little Havana and follow the blue T-Shirt icon to the clothing store. Once you're in the right duds, go to Romero's Funeral Parlor and send the Haitian Gang Lord to an early grave (follow the yellow blip). When you drive by sporting the latest Cuban fashions, the Haitians will assume that you are a member of their rival gang. This sparks the war that Avery wants. The gang leader will very likely flee in a hearse if you don't waste him before he enters one. You can chase him down and perform some drive-by shootings to destroy his vehicle. Be extra cautious when chasing the hearse - it will drop coffins that burst into flames when you run over them. Do not allow the hearse to get too far away, and feel free to switch vehicles if yours gets destroyed by the coffins. When the hearse is almost ready to explode, he will leap out and run away on foot. Pursue him and simply run him over. After wasting him, leave Little Haiti to complete the mission, and Avery will give you $2500 for your services. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 10.
