Copyright Information ----------------------------------------------------- I. Introduction ----------------------------------------------------- The following is my walkthrough for each Boss encounter throughout the game. Near the top of each strategy, will be a list of special unlockable items or cheats for that specific boss. The cheats though only apply to The End's boss battle. I do not really like Introductions, so lets get on with the walkthrough. ----------------------------------------------------- II. Revolver Ocelot ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Animals Uniform- Earn this by defeating Ocelot non-lethally. This means take down his Stamina bar instead of his health. Use the Mk22 during this battle. _______________________________________________________________ Your first boss battle is pretty simple. When you start the fight, go directly to your left and hide behind the tree and rock to get your bearings. DO NOT STAY HERE FOR TOO LONG. As you probably noticed from earlier on in the game, Ocelot is a master of ricochet shots, and will still be able to hit you from any position. If you are low on health or stamina, do not worry, there is a snake to the right of the field in front of the tree that you can climb, and there is a rabbit directly in front of your position if hiding behind the rock. The field of battle is relatively small, so there is only so much that you can do. You are blocked in by two cliffs, preventing you from backing up too far or getting too close to Ocelot. If you want a laugh though, come towards the screen and fall off of the cliff. Snake will automatically grab on to the ledge, so do not worry about dieing. If you listen, all of the soldiers that are watching the fight will start laughing at you for being so clumsy. If you go to far back in the field though and stay there, Ocelot may choose to shoot one of the hornet's nests down. When this happens, just pull out your knife and ward off the hornets. Make sure you pick up the ointment though, along with the nest itself. The nest, when eaten, will provide Excellent stamina recovery. Some other places of note though include the rock and tree to your left in which you can hide behind, and the tree to your right which you can climb. If you want to be fancy, climb to the top of the tree, and walk along the branch. While facing Ocelot, press the Triangle button to hang from it, and make sure you have your M1911A1 equipped. You can fire on Ocelot from third person, or first-person view for better aiming. This is not recommended though, because it leaves you in the wide open and there is nothing you can do to avoid being shot. If you have plenty of health though, go right ahead. It gives you an easy view of where Ocelot will try and hide. So at the beginning of the fight, have any firearm equipped. If you have plenty of health and want to make this a quick fight, you can just stand out in the open following Ocelot in first-person view the whole time and firing on him. If you want though, you can be tactical about it, and peek around from the rock or trees. The first time you hit Ocelot, his soldiers will say, "Major! Backing you up!" and they will open fire upon you. Try and hide to avoid being shot, remember though, they are behind you, so you will need to make yourself open to Ocelot to do so. ---There some great advantages during this fight that you can use--- There are three beehives hanging from trees throughout the level. No matter where Ocelot is when you shoot them down, the bees will chase him and stop him from shooting, this is another great opportunity to shoot him. If you shoot off his hat, he will go and pick it up, shoot him when he does this. Second, if you look to the left of the large tree in the middle (on Ocelot's side) there will be a goat eating there. If you shoot it, one of the soldiers will say, "What was that? Show some respect!" and Ocelot might yell, "Son of a bitch!". Some of the dialogue during this fight will be different based on your actions. You can also toss grenades over there near Ocelot. He will try his best to avoid them, so when he tries to roll out of the way, you can probably get a shot off while he is distracted. The best advantage though, is when he has to reload. After the first mini-cutscene where Ocelot says "You won't get away from me!!" (this happens after he uses all of the ammo from his first gun) there will be a second mini-cutscene after he uses all of the ammo from his second gun. The cool part about the cut-scenes though, is that you can skip them, but still hear what he says. So instead of watching him reload, press X and shoot him while he is still talking! This is where you will get most of your hits from, is when he is reloading. If you shoot him once while he is reloading both guns, he will run all the way to the big tree in the middle. If he is far away from it though, you can shoot him a whole bunch of times before he gets there! If you are low on health though, this is a good time to hide and crouch to gain some of it back before he is done reloading. When you get his health pretty low, the soldiers will open fire again, but it will not last long, so ignore them. Pretty soon, using all of these strategies, Ocelot should be easily and quickly defeated. ----------------------------------------------------- III. The Pain ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Hornet Stripe Camouflage: Earn this by defeating The Pain non-lethally. This means take down his Stamina bar instead of his health. Use the Mk22 during this battle. _______________________________________________________________ I find the best strategy for this fight is to stay in the water. In the water, his bees cannot get to you, and if he uses the Tommy gun or grenades, you can swim away quickly. Another advantage, is being able to swim away and appear somewhere without him noticing you, giving you the perfect chance to get off some good shots. If you are low on stamina, in the water there are plenty of fish for you to catch, and they provide decent stamina recovery. You will most likely end up catching Arowanas. If this is your first time eating fish, there will be a mini-movie of Snake eating one. The best weapon to use is a machine gun. I used the AK-47 myself. It can also be shot from underwater too. Whenever you start shooting The Pain, make sure you shoot him until he falls over. This ensures you got in the most hits possible before he would stop taking damage. The Pain's main attacks at the beginning include him having the bees bring him a Tommy gun to fire at you, and the bees dropping grenades. For the Tommy gun, just swim away quickly and you should be able to avoid the bullets. With the grenades, you can either swim away or shoot the bees holding the grenades so they drop before getting to you. If you hear him yelling grenade, you can usually shoot him before he begins to form it. If done quick enough, the grenade will explode around him, causing all of his bees to fly away leaving him vulnerable, take this time to shoot him down. Another one of his attacks is him launching a massive swarm of bees at you that cover your whole body rendering you immobile. This will only happen if you are not in the water though, so you should not have to worry about it. Periodically, The Pain will defend himself by covering himself in bees. Your bullets will be ineffective most of the time, unless he does not know where you are and is staying still. If this is the case, you can still shoot him. You will know if your bullets are hurting him or not by him either mocking you or screaming from pain. After getting his health down about half way, there will be a cut-scene. After this, he will have a new attack where he launches bullet bees at you. If you get hit, immediately cure yourself, because the bee will eat at the inside of your body, slowly decreasing your health. This boss battle is one of the easier ones, especially if the water tactic is used. To simplify it, shoot him until he falls over, swim away, pop back up, and continue the process. If he is launching an attack, swim under water to a different area so he will not know where you are. It is very easy. ----------------------------------------------------- IV. The Fear ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Spider Camouflage: Earn this by defeating The Fear non-lethally. This means take down his Stamina bar instead of his health. Use the Mk22 during this battle. _______________________________________________________________ As soon as the battle begins, press Start and Cure yourself of the crossbow bolt wound and the poison. Then, when you exit out, immediately select your Thermal Goggles in the L2 menu. Then, select your choice of firearm; I prefer a machine gun because of the zoom feature and rate of fire. You will need it for someone as quick as The Fear. I think this is the easiest of all boss battles. First of all, make sure you stay in the same spot that the battle placed you in! You have a perfect view of everywhere that The Fear will be at. There are traps laid about the field, plus, you will probably just be shot if you try running around. Select a machine gun, hold L1 to zoom in, and follow wherever The Fear goes using your thermal goggles while staying in first person view. So during this entire fight, hold R1 to stay in first person view. Put your gun down to move faster, then, when you spot The Fear, aim your gun and fire, but do it quickly. All he will do is jump from tree to tree. So just follow him and shoot him the whole time. If you do get hit though, cure yourself immediately, but, if you use this strategy correctly, you probably will not get hit often if at all. When his stamina or health gets really low, he may try to find food. If you can, find his position and shoot him. Also, sometimes during the fight, he will jump down from the trees and run at you to try and knock you over. Just keep firing on him when he tries this. This should be all you need to do to beat him. ----------------------------------------------------- V. The End ----------------------------------------------------- While there are a lot of people that hate this boss fight (because it can take so long), it is personally one of my favorites. It is the first realistic sniper duel ever in a game. Although I will admit, it was a bitch to do for this FAQ. If you really do not want to have to fight him, the following are some quick ways to make sure you will not have to deal with him. Although some of the following can be considered cheating. The non-cheating way: After you enter the area where you need to shoot The End, (after Ponizovje South) there will be a cut-scene of the Cobra Unit and Volgin at the docks. After the cut-scene ends, pull out a SVD (You can find the SVD in Ponizovje West (which is located on the left side, near the end of the path on Ponizovje South, after the trees, north in a small building near the top of the screen.) and quickly shoot The End over and over before he rolls away. If you do it correctly, you will kill him. Watch out though! When he explodes, one of his wheels will hit you right in the face if you do not move! When you get to Sokrovenno South (where you would usually fight him), instead of fighting The End, you will fight troops of the Ocelot Unit instead. Setting your PS2 clock forward: Once you reach the area where you fight The End, save your game, and turn off the game. When you are on the Main Menu of the PlayStation 2 (where you can alter your memory cards and settings for the PS2), set the clock a few weeks ahead, and when you reload your game, a cinematic will play and you'll learn The End is dead! Reveal The End's location on your map: During your battle with The End, press Start to go to the Survival Viewer. Select Map and enter the following code: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Square, Triangle A red dot will appear giving you the location of The End. When you exit the menu and come back to it though, you will have to re-input the code. _______________________________________________________________ The battle takes place in three areas. The first one being Sokrovenno South, the second being Sokrovenno North, and the last being Sokrovenno West. If you take too long to find him, in some cases, he will move on to a different area. Special Unlockables: Mosin Nagant: This is a Sniper Rifle that fires tranquilizer darts instead of bullets. It is used to put enemies to sleep for to defeat bosses by depleting their stamina. You receive this by defeating The End non-lethally. Do this by bringing his stamina down, and use your Mk22. Some ways to bring his stamina down is to chase him around, or wait the battle out and let it run down to the last bar naturally. Then, after defeating The End, you have to find the sniper rifle yourself. It is located in Sokrovenoo North, in the northwest part of the area I believe. Moss Camouflage: Earn this by holding up The End (like you would any other guard) by sneaking up on him from behind. He will slowly lay down. When he does, point the gun at his head or crotch, and shake him down. It may take a couple of tries for him to actually give you the camouflage though. ----The following will be various ways of detecting The End without using any codes.---- Thermal Goggles: Use these to detect The End more easily in his hiding spots, or to find his footprints. If you had a close encounter with The End, you can use these to follow his footsteps and ambush him. You can also chase him around, bringing down his stamina quickly. Directional Mic: This is my personal favorite. The End sometimes talks to himself, and you can also hear his heavy breathing. Use the Directional Mic to find out the direction you need to go in to find The End. The louder he is, the closer you are to the direction he is in. Being Spotted: When The End spots you and fires at you, this will reveal his location on the Survival Viewer Map (Press Start). He will be a red dot. Sunlight: You can also spot The End by a gleam of sunlight off of his Sniper Rifle. He will heal himself by using photosynthesis too, and when he does this, a large sunray will shine down upon him, giving away his location. Map: Press Start to go the Survival Viewer, and go down to the Map. The more you explore each area, the more of the map that will be revealed. The circles are Sniper Spots, which are the locations that you can find The End at. So if you are having trouble finding him, check these locations. Through his scope: Sometimes through out the fight (mainly if you have a hard time finding him, and when The End spots you) the camera will switch to the view of looking through The End's scope. You will be able to see yourself, and The End will be trying to shoot you. The controls change for movement, so try and find a hiding place anyways. This should also give you an idea as to where to look for The End. How not to be captured: When you are looking for The End, and you have an opening directly behind you, it may be a good idea to place some Claymore there. Sometimes The End will sneak up behind you, ending the boss fight until you return back to the area, which is an annoying hassle. Better safe than sorry. Also, hiding in logs will make this impossible for him to do. Hiding in logs is also a good way to naturally bring down his stamina. One time, I watched a movie while on my game, I was hiding in a log. I switched it over every so often, and once he got down to one bar, I started shooting him. Just make sure he does not get a chance to heal himself and you will be fine. Climbing up trees is another way to make sure you will not be captured. Problem with this is, is that you are in the perfect spot to be sniped, so make sure he will not be able to spot you if you choose to climb a tree. If you do happen to be captured, The End will take you back to the Labs (where you were disguised as a scientist) and put you in a jail cell. You will have to go all the way back to Sokrovenno South to continue fighting him. The quicker you are, the less time The End had to heal. If you are shot, immediately go into the Cure menu and use the knife to extract the tranq dart. If you do not, your stamina will decrease, and once it reaches zero, you will have to start the battle over. Use any weapons that you want. If you just want to kill him and not worry about any unlockable items, use the following strategies above, and use your SVD (Sniper Rifle) to help find him. When you do spot him, shoot him in the head until he falls down. Continue this process until The End is defeated. If you happen to come across The End's pet parrot, kill it. Or you can put it to sleep and eat it. Just get rid of it so it will not reveal your location to The End. ----------------------------------------------------- VI. The Fury ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Fire Camouflage: Earn this by defeating The Fury non-lethally. This means take down his Stamina bar instead of his health. Use the Mk22 or Mosin Nagant during this battle. _______________________________________________________________ When the battle begins, equip a firearm (preferably a machine gun). I used the AK-47, and changed the firing rate to one bullet at a time. It saves ammo, especially since The Fury can only take three hits until he falls over. Then, change your face paint to Black and your uniform to Olive Drab. While at first the Black uniform may seem the better choice, it isn't once you actually move into the hallways. Move away from the screen (forward) and climb onto the upper level to your left. This is the perfect spot to decide how you want to defeat The Fury. Now, There are two different ways that you can defeat The Fury. You can wait for him to find you, shoot him down, then run and hide. Or, you can find him yourself, set up traps, or lure him closer so you can shoot the barrels lying around or shoot him with your gun. If you are going for stealth, crawl with the above camouflage combo on. The Fury will barely ever see you. So when you shoot him three times to knock him over, immediately stand up and run away. If you get burned, immediately go into the Survival Viewer and Cure yourself. The Fury does not really have any special attacks. All he does is fly around and use his flamethrower. There are quite a few hallways for you to hide or lure The Fury into, along with plenty of barrels. Whenever The Fury is near a set of barrels, immediately shoot them. They will deal considerable damage to him. The Fury is fairly easy, and there is nothing really of interest in this level except for the ledge that you can fall off of if you are not careful, and the bats that you can eat if you need stamina. ----------------------------------------------------- VII. The Sorrow ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Spirit Camouflage: Survive to the end of the "battle" and walk up to The Sorrow until you "die". Then use the Revival Pill. If you die before making it to The Sorrow and use the Revival Pill, you will not receive the Spirit camo. _______________________________________________________________ The Sorrow does not present what you would call a "real" boss battle, meaning no attacks or any hiding techniques will be needed. When you begin, you will notice The Sorrow floating away from you, and the next thing you will probably notice, is his lack of health or stamina bars. This means whatever you do, you cannot hurt him, but you can try if you wish. The Sorrow will just turn into a blue wave, and sometimes teleport away from you. This boss "battle" will be different for everyone, because it is based on how many people you as a player, have killed. If you went through the game blasting everything in sight, there will be tons of dead soldiers or scientists grabbing out at you trying to harm you, but if you killed one or two people, they will be the only ghosts you encounter, along with the bosses. Follow The Sorrow through the whole level, and dodge any ghosts who try to grab you, because each hit will take off part of your health, and if you get hit too many times, you will die and have to restart, or, you can use the revival pill. The second option is not recommended though because you will not get to earn the Spirit camouflage. The ghosts can be shot, and sometimes they will scream out when you do, but it is still ineffective. The Sorrow himself will try launching an attack, where he shoots a large vortex at you, and when hit, if will take off your health, and a black and white image of The Sorrow or his corpse will flash on screen. I suggest getting hit on purpose just to see these images, because they are interesting and will be the only chance to view them. If you try swimming, it will not work, and you will most likely get hurt by a ghost while trying to do so. Also, look out for what the soldiers may do and say, some of them can be pretty funny, or let you know how sick of a player you can be. After seeing The Fury, there should be no more soldiers. The Sorrow will teleport to the end of the level, and you will have to keep walking. When you get near him, you will die. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PRESS CONTINUE OR EXIT! Hold L2, and select "Revival Pill" to continue the game and began a new cinematic. A little cool hint, is when it says to hold R1, look up and to the right, you will see The Sorrow's spirit disappear if you catch him in time. ----------------------------------------------------- VIII. Colonel Volgin ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Cold War Camouflage: Earn this by defeating Volgin non-lethally. This means take down his Stamina bar instead of his health. Your gun should be the Mk22 or Mosin Nagant. _______________________________________________________________ As soon as the fight begins, press start and go to the Camouflage screen. Go to "Uniform" and select any other outfit than: Scientist, Officer, or what you have on which is Maintenance. You cannot use any firearms with these on. It does not matter what outfit you pick, because it is impossible to hide from Volgin. You are stuck in a small square room. It should go without saying that whenever you get injured, immediately cure yourself. Make sure your stamina is high so your health will regenerate throughout the fight. For one, do not shoot Ocelot. If you shoot him enough times and kill him, you will have to restart the fight. Do not pull out your gun at any time unless Volgin is lying on the ground. He will only be encouraged to attack you from long-range. Whenever he is not stunned, do not have your gun equipped. I find the best tactic to use is to take down his stamina all the way instead of his health. If you have the Handkerchief, go up to him and keep pressing square. By doing this, he should be defeated within 20 seconds. This applies to both parts of the battle (the other part after the cut-scene). If you do not, use the Mk22 and the following tactics below. So, after changing your camouflage, charge Volgin, and use CQC on him by pressing the Circle button hard and throwing him in any direction. It is the same technique that you do with the soldiers. No matter in what position you grab him, use L3 and the circle button to throw him down. If you throw him down immediately after pressing circle, he will land flat on his back. If you grab him in the interrogation position, make sure you throw him down quickly or he will throw you off. If done successfully, he will land on all fours. Either way he is down, so when this occurs, pull out any type of handgun, and shoot him once in the body to keep him down, then aim at his head and fire another round, since it will take off more stamina than a body shot. After he gets up, he will most likely try to shoot an electrical charge at you, this will follow you, so your safest bet is to run either left or right and perform a roll. During the fight, Volgin will charge himself up in an electrical field. You will notice a current of electricity flowing on the outside on his body. DO NOT GRAB HIM! You will only hurt yourself. Guns are useless too. Just wait until it goes away. It is especially dangerous though because he will use it at random points during the fight, so sometimes right before you grab him, he will charge up and shock you. Another one of his attacks is using his electrical current to fire bullets at you. Just run away from them and you should be fine, but, if you can get the positioning without getting hit, you can grab him while he is doing this and throw him down. Volgin will also use the electrical breaker in the back of the room to charge himself up. This is the perfect opportunity to get off a headshot. And a very powerful attack is when he punches you up into the air. When you stand up, you will puke. This will decrease your stamina by a WHOLE BAR, so make sure you keep it up. After getting his stamina down half way, there will be a cut-scene. After the cut-scene, use the exact same tactics as above. He will use the bullets on the ground at the beginning of the fight to fie them at you. Try your best to dodge them if you can. Make sure you cure yourself if you get hit though. When his stamina gets really low, he may fire multiple electrical attacks at one. Try your best to stay in between them. Continue using these tactics and you should be able to defeat Volgin! ----------------------------------------------------- IX. The Shagohod/Colonel Volgin ----------------------------------------------------- ---Part One: The Shagohod--- As soon as the battle begins, hold R2 and select your RPG-7 and hold L1 to look through the scope. You should notice smoke coming out of the back of the Shagohod, this is the spot you need to hit, and it will be the only place where the Shagohod can take damage. Immediately shoot the left tread, and then, to reload quicker, while still holding L1, tap R2 quickly twice, your RPG will automatically be reloaded. Then, shoot the right tread. EVA will drive around and stop the vehicle when you have a clear shot. You should notice a hole with smoke coming out of it. Shoot this to take down the Shagohod's health. Sometimes, you may even be able to get more than one shot off. So keep doing the reloading trick and fire. If you take too long though trying to defeat him, Volgin may launch two missiles at you. When he does this, take aim and hit the first one, then do the reloading trick and hit the second one before it gets to you. You should quickly have this over in a minute or two. Then, after the cutscene, comes part two. ---Part Two: Colonel Volgin--- There is a ton of strategies for part two that I discovered while recently playing, but I will start off with the easiest and quickest one. Strategy One: Turrets ----------------------- As soon as the battle starts, run to your right and towards the screen. Shoot the barrels so you will not get hurt by them later, and get into the green turret by pressing Triangle. If you went to your left at the beginning, you would have gotten these little wimpy turrets that are not nearly as powerful. If you do this right with good aim, you can avoid ever being attacked by Volgin. Hold L1 to zoom in, and aim the crosshairs on Volgin. When Volgin is as far away from you as possible, open fire. Keep shooting him, even when his shield is up. You will break his shield if you stay on target and keep hitting him. You should be able to kill him before he gets to you. If he does get to you though, he will run over the turret, causing it to explode and giving you severe burns. If this happens, go into the Survival Menu and cure yourself. After blowing up the turret, Volgin will back up and starting shooting at you. When he does this, just run either left or right around the whole field. You should be able to avoid all bullets and missiles. Sometimes though, you may need to tap X to do a roll to avoid a missile or two. Soon, he will follow EVA. Or, if you wish, you can run towards the Shagohod and hide under it. Volgin will try and run you over, but just make sure you stay under him the whole time and eventually he will get bored and will start chasing EVA again. Do not try and hide in the middle though, or you will be hit. Stick near the treads on either the left or right sides. After he starts chasing EVA again, find another large green turret and finish him off. Strategy Two: SVD ------------------- By using this strategy, you can beat Volgin in literally two shots, and avoid getting hurt at all. When Volgin is chasing EVA and is away from you, first use your rocket launcher to shoot one of the treads. This will immobilize him. Then, take out your SVD and zoom in on his head and fire. It will take away half of his health. After getting hit though, Volgin will start chasing and firing at you. When he does start chasing EVA, immobilize the Shagohod with another rocket, and shoot another round into his head, and you're done! ----------------------------------------------------- X. The Boss ----------------------------------------------------- Special Unlockables: Snake Camouflage: Earn this by defeating The Boss non-lethally. This means take down her Stamina bar instead of her health. Use the Mk22 or Mosin Nagant for this battle. _______________________________________________________________ Scroll down to the very bottom for some things to do after defeating The Boss. If you do not want to use the Sniper Rifle strategy below, please scroll down to some other strategies that I have come up with. Strategy One: SVD ------------------- As soon as the battle begins, press the Start button and go to Camouflage, then select Face. Select "Zombie", then press X to go back and select Uniform. From here, pick either Choco Chip or Fly. While the Scientist may increase your Camo Rating by 20 more percent then the other two, Do not select it. In the Scientist camo, you are not able to select any weapons, which of course would be bad for a boss battle. Now be prepared, because The Boss is charging right at you, so before she gets to you, select your knife. Now, The Boss is much more of an expert at CQC than you, so instead of trying to throw her down, attack with the knife, and if you hit her, just run away and hide instead of trying to take her down, it is not worth it. If you have a gun equipped and get thrown down by The Boss, she will take the gun away, and scatter the ammo around. You will have to pick up the gun and some ammo if you wish to use it again. After getting away from her, duck into the flowers. The Camo Index is so high she will never see you most of the time. This is when I pull out my SVD, and find her position. Some people may not like this because of the flowers hindering your view or because of the slow pace, but I find it to be the most interesting. To move around the field while crawling, tap R2 quickly to de-select the SVD. When you see The Boss, select it and press L1 to zoom on her. If you wish, press Triangle to zoom in even farther on her. When you have her in your sights, fire twice, this should knock her down. When she is down, tap R2 to de-select the SVD, stand up, run away a little, then press and hold X to go into a roll which leads into a crawl. This way, The Boss will not know where you shot from and cannot track you. Instead, she will run away and hide. Here is a small tip if you cannot find where she runs to. If you look up when you hear her running, you will see petals from the flowers flying in the air in the direction she is going. This usually leads to the tree that she will choose to hide behind. If you do not want to be crawling around when you shoot her, you can stand up and use the SVD too. Although she will most likely see you, make sure you shoot her twice before she can chase you or fire. If you are spotted, just fire the Sniper Rifle at her twice to make her fall over. Stand up and run away to hide to make sure she does not take your weapon away. Also, Five minutes into the battle, the Snake Eater theme will cue. This means you have 5 more minutes to kill her, which should not be a problem if you follow this strategy correctly. Simply continue this process until she is dead. Strategy Two: Any firearm --------------------------- This is another strategy by me for those who do not like the slow pace of the Sniper Rifle battle. As soon as the battle begins, press the Start button and go to Camouflage, then select Face. Select "Zombie", then press X to go back and select Uniform. From here, pick either Choco Chip or Fly. While the Scientist may increase your Camo Rating by 20 more percent then the other two, Do not select it. In the Scientist camo, you are not able to select any weapons! With this set-up, while hiding in the flowers on your stomach, your Camo Index will be 85%, against a tree it will be 75%, and while standing up in the open, it will be 35%. But, if you want to bring down her stamina, move the Left Analog Stick (L3) in circles and rapidly tap the Circle button to throw her down. If you want to take down her health instead of her stamina, try to avoid CQC. Also, if you have a gun equipped when she throws you down, she will take the gun and ammo away, and throw them into the air to scatter them around. If you wish to use the gun again, you have to pick it up, along with some ammo to use it. After escaping The Boss, run and go hide behind a tree to avoid her bullets. From here, select any firearm you wish, whether it be a Rocket Launcher, of if you have it, preferably the Patriot. This strategy will work with any firearms. Some firearms though are more effective than others, figure which one works best for you as you play. While you are hiding, make sure to look for where The Boss goes. When she tries to hide, you will already know where she is and have the upper hand against her. Using the R3 stick to look around helps greatly. When you peek out from the tree though, make sure you aim and fire quickly, because more than likely The Boss will spot you. Shoot her enough times so that she falls to the ground and you can hide again. If she does end up chasing you down though, use a machine gun and fire at her, she will dodge most of the bullets, but if you are good, you can hit her enough times to make her fall down and avoid her. Also, 5 minutes into the battle, the Snake Eater theme will cue. This means you have 5 more minutes to kill her, which should not be a problem if you follow this strategy correctly. Simply follow these strategies and The Boss should be an easy opponent. After defeating her, she will give you her Patriot (which you can use the next time you play through, and it has infinite ammo) to kill her with. The black bars will disappear, and you have to press the Square button to fire and kill her. I think it adds a cool effect for the player when you have to fire the last bullet yourself. If you do not shoot her, eventually the game will make Snake fire and the next cinematic will start. You can wait a while if you want to, the screen slowly backs away from Snake and her body, and when it reaches that certain point, the job will be done automatically. During the next cut-scene, hold the R1 button the whole time. The game will not tell you when to press it at all, and if you press it anyways, you can look through Snake's eyes and see The Boss's and The Sorrow's spirits together. ---------------------------------------------------- XI.
