Introduction II. Escape From The Jungle III. Dragnet of the Apes IV. Dawn of the Apes V. Ape Fear VI. Gone With The Apes VII. Special Thanks VIII. Links IX. Copyright Information ----------------------------------------------------- Introduction ----------------------------------------------------- This section is a walkthrough for each level of the Ape Escape missions. When you complete them all, you will receive the Banana Camouflage which can be accessed by going to the 'Uniform' screen while playing through the story. You will also receive the Monkey Mask, which can be accessed through the 'Face Paint' screen if you get the best time on all 5 levels. My following strategies will be ways to achieve the best time on each level. I will be placing a number by each monkey so you know how many you should have at certain points through out each of the levels. At the beginning of every level walkthrough, I will also post how many monkeys are in each level. For easier reading, you can also find every one of my strategies at the following link: http://metalgear.neoseeker.com/mgs3/PS2/pages/ape_escape/ ========================================================= II. Escape From The Jungle ========================================================= There are a total of NINE (9) monkeys in this level. #1- As soon as you begin, hold R1 to go into first-person view and shoot the monkey in the grass directly in front of you. #2 and #3- Then, to the upper left of the screen, will be a monkey in the grass, and a monkey on a log that will jump up to the ledge to the right of it. Shoot them both, and on your way to bag them up, pick up the directional microphone. Then of course, go directly to pick up the dazed monkey in the grass, and the one from the log. If you shot the second monkey after he jumped onto the ledge, you will probably catch him as soon as he lands on the ground, if not, he will be sitting on the log. #4- Jump onto the log where the second monkey was and go into first-person view (Hold R1) and shoot the monkey that is crawling around and pick it up. #5- Climb back over the log, and run all the way to the right, until you see the grassy hill, and shoot the monkey walking in the path. #6- When you pick up Monkey #5, go into first-person view and you will see a monkey at the top. Now this one is tricky, if he is to the far left when you shoot him, he will most likely fall down and basically make you not be able to complete the mission in under a minute. The best tip is to wait until he is more to the right to shoot him. It should not take too much time, and you should still be able to complete the mission to make First Place. #7, #8, and #9- Go to the very tip of the ledge after bagging the monkey, and go into first-person view and look at the very top of the large tree. There is a monkey standing there, shoot him, and look directly down the tree and shoot the monkey hanging on the branch. Then, look to the bottom left and there will be a monkey walking around on the ground, shoot him too. Jump off the ledge onto the ground, and pick up all three monkeys. It may take a few tries, but with this strategy you should be able to complete the mission with the best time, usually around 59 seconds. ================================================= III. Dragnet of the Apes ========================================================= There are a total of 15 monkeys in this level. #1, #2, #3, #4- As soon as you start, go forward and pick up the Active Sonar and then go immediately into first-person view (Hold R1) and look up the mossy tree. There will be a monkey hanging from a branch, shoot it, and then as he falls, hold R2 and select your stun grenades. To the right of the mossy tree, you should see three (3) monkeys dancing around. Toss the grenade over there, and then go pick up the monkey from the tree, and then the now 3 dazed ones. I tried shooting them, but the monkey from the tree will wake up before you have a chance to take care of them all. You will also probably alert one of them and they will run off, so just use a grenade. #5- After picking up your first four, climb the log that is directly south of where the three dancing monkeys used to be. Shoot the monkey over here and pick him up, and then go to the right to the grassy area. #6- To your right, and there will be a monkey walking around behind a log, and he may even jump on the log, either way, just make sure you shoot him and grab him. #7- Go the upper right, and you will see a monkey sitting in a hollow tree. Shoot him and grab him. Then, turn left and go into first person view. #8, #9, #10- You will see a monkey on top of the large hill. Shoot him, and as he falls, look up and shoot the monkey on the top of the tree in front of the hill. Pick up both of the fallen monkeys, and in front of you, you should see a monkey walking around in the grass, shoot him and pick him up too. #11 and #12- Go directly to your left, and you will see a monkey at the bottom of a grassy hill, shoot him, and then to the upper right, there will be a monkey in front of a sign post, shoot him too, and then pick them both up. Come back down the hill, and go to your left. You will see a monkey walking around, and a monkey sitting on top of a large tree trunk. #13 and #14- Depending on whichever one is closer, shoot that one first, and shoot the second one, then pick them both up at the same time. #15- Come towards the screen, and you will see another monkey sitting inside a hollow tree trunk, shoot him and grab him up and you are done! You should easily complete this one before 1 minute and 45 seconds. You will most likely complete it 5-9 seconds before then. ================================================= IV. Dawn of the Apes ========================================================= There are a total of 21 monkeys in this level. As soon as you begin, move forward and grab the Thermal Goggles and continue forward until you reach the red structure and fence. #1- Turn to your right, and shoot the monkey hanging from the crooked steel bar. #2- Then, go up the stairs, and when you do, you will hear the usual sound and music that is played when a monkey spots you. Ignore this, and continue up the stairs to shoot the monkey lying down. Make sure you do grab him in time though, or he will fall all the way down the stairs making it take a few seconds longer to grab him. #3- Right after you grab Monkey #2, turn around and you will see the alarmed monkey walking along the pillar. Shoot him, and jump off the ledge to pick him up as he hits the ground. #4- Right after grabbing Monkey #3, go up past the first set of crates next to the brick building. Then, immediately look to your right and shoot the monkey hiding in the grass. After grabbing him, come back towards the screen past the dancing monkeys and music, and look to your right. #5 and #6- You should see the head of a monkey right above the broken brick wall. Shoot him and grab him, and then turn to your right and go into first-person view, you will see another monkey running around some trees, pick him up, and then go towards the dancing monkeys. #7, #8, #9, #10, #11, #12, #13, #14, #15- Throw a stun grenade into the crowd of the dancing monkeys, and pick all of them up. #16 and #17- Go up and onto the ledge of the partly destroyed brick building, and go into first-person view. You will see a monkey on top of a set of crates, and you may see his friend walking around (the monkey with glasses). Shoot the one on the crate, and if you do not see the nerdy monkey walking around, he will be behind the crates. Go back there and pick him up too. Come back towards the screen, and go through the doorway to your right. You will see a monkey sitting on a window ledge, ignore him for now. Just make sure you do not alarm him, so try to stay as far away as you can from him. #18 and #19- Keep going up and go through the doorway into the room. Shoot the monkey in the corner, and then grab him and turn around to shoot the monkey on the window ledge. Go up the two sets of crates and through the window to pick him up. #20 and #21- Then, shoot the monkey in front of you, and as soon as you pick him up, take the ladder to your left to go to the roof of the building that you were just in. As soon as you reach the roof, shoot the monkey who is laying down and drinking fruit, and then do a roll to grab him up faster. Using this strategy, you should have a few seconds to spare to get First Place. ================================================= V. Ape Fear ========================================================= There are a total of 18 monkeys in this level. #1 and #2- As soon as you begin, go forward and move to the front of the large tree that is located to your right when you start. Make sure you are not too close to the trunk though, or you will not be able to shoot the monkey above you, but the branch instead :P. Look up, and shoot the monkey sitting idly on the branch, and then look down and to your left, you will see another monkey running towards you. Shoot him real quick, and then proceed to pick up both of the dazed monkeys. #3- Continue going to the upper right, and you will see a trench with a bridge leading to a building over it. When you get near the bridge, stop and enter first-person view (Hold R1) and look a little to the right of the bridge. You will see a monkey's head pop up. Shoot it and grab it, and then climb back onto the ledge from where you fell to grab him (Press Triangle). #4- Then, before crossing the bridge, shoot the monkey that is looking around in front of the building and go grab him. #5- Immediately climb the ladder to reach the roof of the building, and look to your upper left and shoot the monkey doing some kind of weird dance or something. Roll off the building so you fall off the left side, and then equip your stun grenades. Now sometimes, you may be noticed by one of the monkeys inside of the room and he will run off. If this happens, do not worry, because the monkey is going in the same direction as you soon will be. I find that instead of going into first-person view and throwing the stun grenade inside of the window, you should just toss it at the wall so it bounces off. For some reason when you do this, it dazes all three monkeys in the first room, and even the other monkey lying in bed in the second room. #6, #7, #8, #9- Run inside after tossing the stun grenade, and pick up all three dazed monkeys, and then run into the room through the doorway to the right. Go into first-person view and look to your right. You will see a monkey lying on a bed, if he is already dazed, just go and pick him up, if not, just shoot him. #10- After capturing him, go out through the doorway to the right. Go up a little, and you should notice a monkey lying on a porch in front of a shed, shoot him real quick and pick him up, and then go directly to your right towards Mesal Gear. #11- Go into first-person view and look up at the top of Mesal Gear and shoot the one-eyed monkey down. If you get in between the shadows, you can probably catch him before he hits the ground. #12- Go to the upper left between the two destroyed walls and shoot the monkey walking around here. #13, #14, #15- Then go up and to the right and shoot the monkey walking around the building if he is over there yet, if not, continue to your upper right and get him when you come back to shoot the monkey on the roof. Go to your right and shoot the monkey wearing the glasses, and then go up past the two sets of crates located on the left side of the building. Look behind the crates, and you will see a monkey huddled up in a corner. Take care of him, and go back to your left. #16- Go into first-person view, and shoot the monkey hanging from the communications antenna on the roof of the building. #17 and #18- Continue to your left and keep outside the fence. You will see a monkey running around the trees here, take care of him, and then go back to your right, and this time, follow the trench while keeping inside the fence. You will see a monkey crawling around in here, take care of him and your done! Using my uber tactics, you can complete this level at about 2 minutes and 20 seconds. I did. :P It may take some practice though ;) ================================================= VI. Gone With The Apes ========================================================= There are a total of 18 monkeys in this level. #1 and #2- As soon as you begin, run to your left until you reach the room and face forward. Shoot the monkey behind the desk, and then look to your left and shoot the monkey lying down. Go and pick them both up. If you try shooting the monkey lying down first, it will alert the other monkey that is behind the desk, so just follow the above strategy. #3- When you pick up the second monkey, shoot the monkey that is walking in the hallway in front of you. Continue down to the end of the hallway, and enter the door on the right. #4- You have a good chance of alerting him when you walk in, so immediately shoot the monkey sitting down at the back, and when you go to pick him up, you will probably alert another monkey. #5- Go into first-person view and shoot him. He may either try and run around or he may crawl under the table to the far right of the room. You may have to crawl under the table to grab him if this is the case. #6- Continue to the right, and shoot the monkey huddled up in the corner. After grabbing him, go back the way you came, but stop in the middle. #7- Shoot the monkey walking on top of the rail on the second floor, and grab him as he comes down. Then leave through the door that you came in. #8- Come towards the screen and take your first right and follow the hallway. Shoot the monkey walking around here, and continue to follow the hallway. #9- Go past the windows, and take care of the monkey walking around in this long hallway. After you do, enter the library, which is the first door to your left (the room with the four barred windows that you just passed). #10 and #11- As soon as you enter, go into first-person view and take care of the monkey that is huddled up on the desk. Pick him up, and continue to the left of the room and take care of the four-eyed monkey clapping around at the suggestive poster. Go back the way in which you came and continue down the hallway. Take the next left to enter the courtyard outside. If you wish, you can ignore the monkeys that are outside until the very end (since you capture the last monkey in the same courtyard) but I find taking care of them now to be faster. #12 and #13- When out there, shoot the monkey on the ground, and when you pick him up, do a 180 and look up to the far left of the roof above the door that you entered through, and shoot the monkey sitting up there. Stand in front of the door to pick him up, and then continue further down the hallway and go up both sets of stairs. #14- Follow the hallway, and take care of the monkey walking up here, and then go down the hallway on the far right and go through the second door on the right to enter the bathroom. #15- Go right to the very last stall, and shoot the monkey who seems to be having bowel troubles (like Johnny Sasaki) and then leave through the door that you came in. Go left to enter the locker room. #16- The monkey in here may be either walking around, or sitting in the corner in the back right. Take care of him, and if you want a Camera, open the locker door third from the left to obtain it. #17- Come back down the hallway, and take your first left and go past the paintings. Follow the path, and shoot the monkey in the hallway here. If he spots you and runs away, he will go outside and climb down into the courtyard, if so, leave him for last and continue on right towards the end of the hallway, and exit out through the door. #18- As soon as you do, shoot the monkey to your immediate left, and if the previous monkey (#17) went down into the courtyard, go down there and take care of him to complete the mission! You should be able to complete this with a good 15-20 seconds left to spare. ================================================= VII.
