Introduction | |=============================================================================| Vast, rugged and lawless. As a young man you were helpless to prevent the slaughter of your family at the hands of bandits. Many years later, you live as a bounty hunter - bringing criminals to justice, while struggling to unravel the mystery of your past. You must find those who murdered your family. Then, you will take your revenge. |=============================================================================| | 2. Version History | |=============================================================================| Version 2.0 - 22/2/2008 Changed the layout of the guide, and finally added a strategy for how to complete Bear Mountain on Bounty Hunter Mode, thanks to hickey2. Version 1.9 - 26/8/2004 Added more contributions. Version 1.8 - 22/8/2004 Completed the Bounty Hunter walkthrough. I've been working on it for ages! Also added a few contributions. I hope this helps! |=============================| | 4.01. Chapter 01: Bulls Eye | |=============================| "Young Nate Harlow built a cabin a ways from Bear Mountain, partly to get some distance from the Red Wolf tribe after some folks weren't happy about him marrying Falling Star." ---------------------------- You start the level near your house. You will get a small briefing of the controls. Practice to learn the controls and then follow the path down to the creek. You will get another small briefing on shooting. Practice shooting and then try the tutorial. For the tutorial you just need to practice shooting the pots and pans and the target dummy. When you hit them all, you get a small cutscene showing bandits raiding your house. Run forward and shoot the enemy that appears in front of you. Follow the path back round and shoot the two enemies that arrive as you near the hill. Shoot them and run up the hill to your house. As you near the house, you see it is on fire. You will see Nate standing near the house. Run over to him and more enemies will ambush you from around the side of the house. Nate will also shoot but help him out if he gets in trouble. Keep strafing around the house to avoid being hit by the bandits. When you see a cutscene of an enemy falling over you've killed everyone. This ends the first level. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Smitty - $20 Unlockables =========== - Good: Old Pistol - Excellent: Broken Creek |=================================| | 4.02. Chapter 02: Bounty Hunter | |=================================| "Little outposts like this crop up all over the West, to the disadvantage of many honest travelers." ----------------------------- You start the level next to the Prospector's wagon with two enemy bandits in front of you. Keep strafing to avoid the gunfire and shoot them both. After killing both of them a cutscene shows. You are given an option for another tutorial. Begin the tutorial to practice on taking cover. Take cover behind the wagon and pop out to shoot the bandit hiding behind the rock in front of you, the two bandits on the cliffs above you and the bandit in the distance hiding behind the tree. When all four are dead, run towards the tree and another cutscene starts. There is another briefing on using Deadeye. Practice it as it will come in very handy later on in the game. When the practice is over, your first boss fight starts. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Tom, Oaf and George | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Concentrate on the closest boss first and shoot him until he dies. Watch | | out for the muscle man as he runs all over the place and punches you when | | you get close. There is a health pack behind the tent near you when you | | start if you need it. When all three bosses are dead the level ends. | =============================================================================== ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: "Bloody" Tom - $30 Unlockables =========== - Good: "Bloody" Tom - Excellent: Big Oaf Whitney |====================================| | 4.03. Chapter 03: Ugly Streetfight | |====================================| "This little town has fallen on hard times and is on its last legs. The only thing keeping the town alive is the O'Gradys." ----------------------------- The opening cutscene introduces Sheriff O'Grady and you are now in Widow's Patch. When the level starts, you will see two bandits running off in front of you and you are thrown straight into another boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Chicken | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Run forward and shoot the bandit running towards you. There should be | | another one on the left and one on the right outside a shop. Chicken is | | hiding behind the tall barrel in the middle of the street. Kill him and a | | short cutscene shows bandits appearing on the rooftops. | =============================================================================== Take out your Owl Rifle and press R3 to zoom in on the enemies on the shop rooftops. Hide under the rooftops if they hit you too much. The stairs on the far left of the street is a good spot to shoot them but they are pretty close so you'll have to shoot them quick. The tall barrel in the middle of the street is a good spot for taking cover. When all the enemies are dead you will see another cutscene of more enemies appearing and another boss fight starts. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Hedgehog | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Hedgehog is the man dressed in black. First, kill everyone around him. The | | tall bandit can be a bit of a problem, so kill him first. Again, the left | | side of the street at the top of the stairs is the best place to kill the | | two enemies on the roof. There is a health pack next to the stairs that | | lead to Sheriff O'Grady's office if you need it at any time. After the | | fight another tutorial starts. | =============================================================================== This tutorial teaches you how to duel. This duel is pretty straightforward. Aim for the chest to kill the bandit. You can fire a total of six shots in a row in a duel. You will need to practice this otherwise the later parts of the game will be pretty confusing if you don't know what to do. After the tutorial there is another small boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Gigolo | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Gigolo is the tall bandit with a pink shirt. Kill the short bandit first | | and then go into Deadeye and aim at Gigolo. Do it quick as Gigolo will run | | inside the building he came from and reappear somewhere else. After you've | | killed Gigolo, three enemies will run out so kill them too and the level | | boss appears. | =============================================================================== =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Ugly Chris | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Ugly Chris has Sheriff O'Grady hostage. You will need to be careful when | | shooting at Ugly Chris as you could hit the Sheriff. The Sheriff has his | | own life bar and if he dies you fail the level. Deadeye Ugly Chris and | | shoot him. This will stun him and he will drop the Sheriff for a few | | moments. Use this chance to shoot him as much as you can. When he picks | | the Sheriff up again, repeat. Killing Ugly Chris ends the level. | =============================================================================== ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: "Ugly" Chris - $40 Unlockables =========== - Good: "Ugly" Chris - Excellent: Widow's Patch |================================| | 4.04. Chapter 04: The Traincar | |================================| "Travel by train is about as good as it gets out on the Frontier. The company's not bad either, usually." ----------------------------- This is a very short level. You start the level on the train to Brimstone. Talk to the old man at the front of the train and go back to the Sheriff. A cutscene will start. This duel is pretty simple. It's one on one. Just aim for his head or his chest to kill him and that's it. Easy. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: None - Excellent: None |==============================| | 4.05. Chapter 05: Railroaded | |==============================| "Much has been written about the Pan-Atlantic Railroad being the greatest feat of engineering in the 19th century." ----------------------------- Note: If you fall off the train in this level, it's unlikely you'll be able to get back on and you'll have to play the level again. When you start, stay where you are and wait for a bandit to jump down. When he does, strafe left and right while shooting him. Press the X Button to jump up on top of the train carriage in front of you and run forward. Use Deadeye on the bandit on the right below you and and jump down. Use the wooden logs for cover and pop out to shoot the bandit on the carriage up ahead. Be careful of another bandit crouching behind a wooden crate. Once you've killed the bandit on the carriage above you, two more will jump down. You may have to crouch behind a wooden crate for a better shot at them. When both are dead, use the crates to climb up on to the carriage. One of them will have dropped a health pack, so pick it up if needed and run further down the train. You will come to a boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Fawler | DIFFICULTY: ** | =============================================================================== | Although the boss' life bar appears at this moment, you can't actually | | fight the boss yet. First kill the bandits in front and be careful of the | | bandit with fire bottles. Your best shot here is to stay as far back as you | | can but make sure you can still aim at the bandit. Use your Owl Rifle to | | zoom in and kill him with a couple of head shots. A couple of enemies will | | pop up from below so kill them as well and make your way across the train. | | | | Fawler is the bandit in white at the front of train. He has a knife and can | | easily knock you off, so keep strafing at all times. Use Deadeye and the | | six shooter to take care of him. Fawler will drop a health pack when he's | | dead. | =============================================================================== A cutscene shows the train speeding up and you hear a woman screaming. This part is pretty difficult and you'll need to be pretty quick pressing the right buttons to get past it. You need to jump over the high wooden barriers and duck under the low wooden barriers while the train is moving and avoid the bandits. If you try to kill the bandits you'll likely won't be able to get anywhere since the platforms will keep knocking you backwards. When you reach the front of the train another boss fight will start. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Hoss | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | You need to keep the engineer alive while you fight Hoss. It shouldn't be | | too difficult as Hoss will mainly focus on shooting you. Keep strafing the | | whole time and Deadeye him when you can. Just keeping unloading on him and | | he'll be dead in no time. Approach the engineer. | =============================================================================== The engineer will fix you up and you'll now have full health again. You need to protect the engineer for three minutes while he gets the train moving properly again. This can be a little tricky. Bandits will approach the front of the train on horseback. When you have about one minute left the bandits will start jumping on to the train car you're on, making it a bit more difficult. Be careful of the bandits that jump down in front of you. When the three minutes are up, the level ends and you arrive in Brimstone. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: "Hatchet" Schultz - $100 Unlockables =========== - Good: Owl Rifle - Excellent: Rico Pedrosa |===========| | Brimstone | |===========| "Gold turned this town from a backwater to the capital of an entire territory in the blink of an eye. There's plenty of places to spend your money on, from the Gun Shop to the Saloon." ----------------------------- The opening cutscene introduces Sheriff Bartlett. You'll be working for him for a while. There is really not a lot you can do here except visit the shops and buy what you can afford. You might want to buy some upgrades for your weapons but other than just purchase what you can to unlock journal pages and showdown levels. Enter Sheriff Bartlett's office to begin the next chapter. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: None - Excellent: None |=================================| | 4.06. Chapter 06: Carnival Life | |=================================| "This abandoned Army outpost has been used as a stopping point for many a traveler, until Professor Perry and his cursed Carnival showed up." ----------------------------- The opening cutscene introduces Jack Swift. The English person Sheriff Bartlett told you to look out for. When the level starts, you will be next to Jack's cage. Aim at the red lever on the side and shoot it to free him. We will help kill the carnival bandits that ambush you. They are mainly midgets. Keep strafing around the walls and shooting the bandits until a cutscene starts. Jack tells you to use the mounted machine gun to dispose of the bandits. You start off next to the machine gun. Press the Square Button to use it and then fire at anything that moves. One of the midgets will drop a health pack so pick it up and go back to shooting everyone. Repeat this until the boss fight starts. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Pig Josh | DIFFICULTY: *** | =============================================================================== | This boss is a pain, however there is a really simple way to beat him. | | When the level starts, follow Jack into the building and go up the stairs. | | Jack will stay here but you will be able to climb on to the broken roof. | | Do so and now you can avoid Pig Josh's explosions. He is wearing a belt of | | dynamite. Stay up here through the whole boss fight and wait for Josh to | | walk out into the open. Shoot him in the back and this will stun him. Use | | this chance to shoot him as much as you can. If he sees you, he will run | | into the building with Jack but the explosion won't hit you. Repeat. When | | Pig Josh is defeated the level ends. | =============================================================================== |---------------------------| | Tip Submitted by: Michael | |---------------------------| While Pig Josh is exploding under Jack, he rolls into a corner of the room and then gets up. The corner he rolls to is partially/mostly open to you on the high roof, depending on where you stand and he lands. If you line up the shot right, you can peg him with a head shot each time he stands up. Not only does it do some (not much though) damage each time, a head shot is worth $8 per shot. Since you keep shooting him, he never walks outside into the open, but I made more money this way than actually claiming the bounty, even though it took longer to finish him off. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Pig Josh - $150 Unlockables =========== - Good: Dead Eye Increase - Excellent: Pig Josh |==============================| | 4.07. Chapter 07: Freak Show | |==============================| "Once upon a time, Widow's Patch had all the right features. Nowadays, the few honest folk, left lock their doors at night." ----------------------------- You are now playing as Jack Swift! When the level starts, you will be back in Widow's Patch, and it is now night. The opening cutscene shows the Carnival freaks appearing and they have someone named Katie tied up. You are thrown straight into yet another boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Slade | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Slade has a knife and will not hesitate to use it against you. Katie also | | has her own lifebar and if she dies you fail the level. Slade is the tall | | bandit that should run right past you when the level starts. You should be | | able to spot him since all the other bandits are midgets again. Once you've | | taken away about three-quarters of Slade's health another boss appears. | =============================================================================== =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: LaRouche | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Focus on killing Slade first since he's nearly dead anyway and then Deadeye | | the remaining annoying bandits at least until more appear and then focus on | | killing LaRouche. Be careful of LaRouche's flame torch. It can easily set | | you alight and deals a fair bit of damage. Keep your distance when shooting | | LaRouche. If you are having trouble with this boss fight and find it hard | | to stay alive, run up the stairs to Sheriff O'Grady's office and climb on | | to the roof. Several of the midgets will drop health packs. When LaRouche | | is dead, you face one final boss fight. | =============================================================================== =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Perry & Atlas | DIFFICULTY: *** | =============================================================================== | This boss fight took me a while. Perry has a green bottle with him that | | gives him back some of his health. It doesn't matter how quick you try to | | kill him, he will use the bottle about five times until he runs out and you | | can finish him off. Focus on Atlas first since he has a smaller health bar. | | You will be able to see where Perry is when you see a huge green flame | | appear somewhere. Atlas has a shield, which prevents you from hitting him | | from the front, so you will have to strafe around quickly and hit from the | | side or the back. Atlas will drop a health pack when he dies so pick it up | | and start killing Perry. Perry will release more midgets to deal with you | | every time he heals. Not too difficult just a little distracting. | =============================================================================== ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Professor Perry - $200 Unlockables =========== - Good: Increase Max Health - Excellent: Breech Loader |===========| | Brimstone | |===========| "Gold turned this town from a backwater to the capital of an entire territory in the blink of an eye. There's plenty of places to spend your money on, from the Gun Shop to the Saloon." ----------------------------- Back in Brimstone and you're back as Red. Again, the only thing to do is buy what you can afford. There are a couple of new items to purchase. If you purchase a Strong Drink in the Saloon, you increase your Deadeye. Again, enter the Sheriff's office to begin the next chapter. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: None - Excellent: None |================================| | 4.08. Chapter 08: Rogue Valley | |================================| "It was hard enough getting to Clementine Falls through Rogue Valley even before it turned into a hideout for murderers." ----------------------------- When the level starts, you will be somewhere on the cliffs of Rogue Valley. Climb up the rocks ahead until you come to a wooden bridge. Hug the rock on the right and watch the bandits on the other side of the bridge. They don't know you are here yet so you should be able to Deadeye one of them and get back behind the rock before they hit you. There is a camouflaged bandit on the tall rock and one on the right. They fire arrows at you which can be a bit damaging so be careful. When all four bandits are dead, run across the bridge. Climb up the next set of rocks and you'll come to a stone arch. This is a good cover spot for hiding from the bandits on the other side of the canyon but you can't really hit them without showing yourself. You should use the Halcon Rifle to zoom in on them to make it easier to shoot them. When both are dead, run across the arch and hug the closest rock. This next part is a bit tricky. Although you can shoot most of the bandits from where you are, sometimes two or three of them attack you from the side and you can't tell until you start losing health. Strafe the whole time and shoot as many as you can before hiding behind the rock again. Deadeye works well here. Be careful of the rock thrower though. Climb the next set of rocks and bandits will ambush you again. One of them is a rock thrower high up which can be hard to avoid. Again, strafe the whole time while shooting them. One of them will drop a health pack and also if you drop down on to one of the lower ledges on the left, follow it and you'll come to a crate. Shoot it to find another health pack. When you are back on to the cliffs, shoot the remaining bandits and climb up the rocks where another ambush starts. If you run quickly you can reach the health pack next to the wall before a bandit has a chance to hit you. This will restore your health fully. Strafe while killing this next lot of bandits while using the rock in the middle for cover. Climb the rocks and watch out for the rock thrower on the right. Use Deadeye on him and run forward. Climb the rock and jump across the broken bridge for a duel. If you fail this duel, you will restart just before the broken bridge. This duel can be a bit challenging. There are two bandits this time and they are quick at shooting you. Be quick back and aim for their necks or chest. You need to kill both at the same time. Run forward and you'll meet the Prospector again. He will offer you a Snakebite Kit for $1500. Unless you haven't bought a lot during your previous visits to Brimstone, you will be unable to afford this. The Prospector will show you a shortcut through a cave. After the cutscene run through the cave and shoot the bandits down here. Strafe while doing so and run outside. There will be two bandits on the other side of the canyon waiting for you. The Prospector will probably get killed here but take your time and shoot them when you can. When they are all dead, climb up the rocks on the right and shoot the two bandits across the canyon. If you jump down on to a ledge on the right, you can use the cactus for cover and there is also a health pack here. When they are both dead, go back the way you came and climb up the rocks to start the boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Bad Bessie | DIFFICULTY: *** | =============================================================================== | This boss fight can be pretty difficult. Bessie has four different bandits | | with her as well. There is a rock thrower on the bridge up ahead. Take care | | of him first. Kill the bandit with the rifle next and then Deadeye the | | other two bandits. Now, focus on Bessie. Bessie is pretty fast and most of | | the time you'll think she's not there, but she likes to spring attacks on | | you. Hide behind the rock on the left from where you start and shoot her | | when she appears. Watch out for her whip. The bandits will eventually | | respawn after a while. | =============================================================================== ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Bad Bessie - $250 Unlockables =========== - Good: Cooper - Excellent: Bad Bessie |===========| | Brimstone | |===========| "Gold turned this town from a backwater to the capital of an entire territory in the blink of an eye. During this visit and the next visit to Brimstone, you can find and talk to Jack Swift who is walking around. Talk to him four times and he'll sell you a Lucky Flask for $1500. Again, enter the Sheriff's office to begin the next chapter. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: None - Excellent: None |==============================| | 4.09. Chapter 09: Ghost Town | |==============================| "Tarnation was the odd child of the territory. The town fell apart after most of the citizens left, except for that strange undertaker Mr. N. Black." ----------------------------- You start the mission in Ghost Town. A lot of enemies ambush you here, so you need to be careful. The first five enemies that appear are tricky. Strafe left and right and try not to get hit too much. Use Deadeye if it becomes a bit of a problem and then run into the house on the left. Use the windows inside for cover and shoot any more bandits that appear. They sometimes stand in the doorframe giving you a few easy shots at them. When they are all dead, run outside. Run into another house and kill the bandits outside. Be careful of the fat enemies on the roof. One of the fat enemies on the ground will drop a health pack, so pick it up and finish the rest off using whatever Deadeye you have. Basically, for the rest of the level, you just need to run inside the houses and shoot the bandits from the windows. If you use the shotgun, most of them will go down with two or three hits. The fat bandits will occasionally drop health packs which can really help you out. When you reach the end of the street, a duel starts. This is a 3-on-1 duel and can be a little difficult. You will get hit in this duel, but anyone you didn't kill during the duel you'll get the chance to kill after. Make sure you kill Jesse, the man in black in the middle, as it will lead to a boss fight if he is the one left. If you happen to get into this boss fight, keep strafing and shoot him when you can, he will likely only take a couple of hits as it's almost certain you got him during the duel. Red runs up the hill to the cemetary. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: - Excellent: |================================| | 4.10. Chapter 10: The Cemetary | |================================| "Many brave gunfighters and cowardly murderers are buried in the Tarnation Cemetary. Mr. Black welcomes them all equally." ----------------------------- This level is just a boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Mr. Black | DIFFICULTY: **** | =============================================================================== | You start the level off in the cemetary with Mr. Black and four bandits. | | Focus on killing the bandits first to get them out of the way. One of them | | will drop a health pack but leave it for when you really need it. Mr. Black | | has a gatling gun behind his coffin and it will inflict serious damage on | | you if it hits. Keep strafing throughout the whole battle and just keep | | shooting. Using Deadeye can sometimes help. Mr. Black will swing his coffin | | at you if you get too close, so stay as far back as you can. That's about | | as much advice as I can give you. | =============================================================================== |------------------------------------------| |Alternate Strategy submitted by: P.Parvin | |------------------------------------------| Once you've got rid of his henchmen, you get to focus solely on Black. He's REALLY tough but the best way i found to go about it was to select dynamite as your weapon and fix the crosshairs on Black so that they are red. Keep them there as we wanders slowly towards you. After a while he'll open up his coffin to start shooting. At this point you must VERY QUICKLY throw the dynamite into the coffin (it goes in there automatically if the crosshairs are red). This will cause him to give up the idea of using his gatling gun, close the coffin back up and put it back on his back. The dynamite will then blow up, causing Black to fly into the air and back to earth which dazes him for a time. At this point you should open up on him with your most powerful weapon (Breech Loader is best) before running away to a safe distance. He is particularly vulnerable when he is dazed like this and sustains much more damage per shot than if you just take pot shots at him. Repeat this process until he's dead. |------------------------------------------------| | Alternate Strategy submitted by: David Whitman | |------------------------------------------------| I found killing the big boss in the graveyard easy. All you have to do, is Hide behind one of the stone walls, and keep shooting him . His gattling, does not hurt the wall only the grave stones. I did this, and he dropped fast without Red taking any damage. |-----------------------------------------------------| | Alternate Strategy submitted by: Christopher Seavey | |-----------------------------------------------------| Get rid of the bandits first, either by your own gun fire, or you can lure them into Black's crossfire. Black's gun will kill them in only about two rounds (less cash for you, but you save on life). Once it's you and Black, you can hide behind a headstone and take one shot to get him to use his Gatling. While he is firing, strafe closer to him. When he finishes his round of fire and puts his coffin onto his back again, he is in a state of stun, much like many other bosses. Using Dead Eye when he is stunned will kill him in 4 or less rounds. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Mr. Black - $300 Unlockables =========== - Good: Ghost Town - Excellent: Mr. Black |===========| | Brimstone | |===========| "Gold turned this town from a backwater to the capital of an entire territory in the blink of an eye. There are a couple of new items to purchase and a few weapon upgrades. If you purchase a Strong Drink in the Saloon, you increase your Deadeye. This is your last chance to find Jack and buy the Lucky Flask off of him if you haven't already. Also if you talk to the paperboy he will sell you a Pocketwatch for $1500. Enter the sheriff's office and he will tell you to go to the bank. Chapter 11: Range War | |=============================| "When Annie's father passed on, he left her a fine stretch of land near Bear Mountain, along with enough money to build a ranch and fulfil her dream." ----------------------------- The opening cutscene introduces Annie Stoakes. You are now playing as Annie Stoakes and you start off on Annie's farm. Straight away you are thrown into a boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Gilbert and Dirk | DIFFICULTY: ** | =============================================================================== | Gilbert and Dirk are riding around on horseback. To kill them, stand back | | and use your rifle to shoot them. It will take two hits to kill Dirk. Just | | be careful that the horse doesn't charge at you when it runs off. Next is | | Gilbert. Gilbert is riding behind the barn, so run behind the barn and use | | the same methods to kill him. | =============================================================================== You now need to free the animals from the burning barn, except that there is a bandit inside and he won't let you through. To dispose of him, stand outside the barn and use your rifle to zoom in on the wooden beams at the top of the barn. To free the livestock, you must shoot the yellow locks on the gates. Be careful as one of the pens has a bandit inside. You can look over the top of the gate before shooting the lock off. Be careful of the animals when they come charging out as they could kill you. The next part is pretty difficult so go and get some health before freeing all of the animals. There is some at the back of the farm. When all the animals are freed, a cutscene shows four more bandits arriving outside. You start off outside. Run forward and keep strafing while using the rifle to shoot the bandits. One of them will drop a health pack. Pick it up and prepare for the next part when everyone's dead. This next part takes a while. The key to getting past this part is patience. Bandits will continually spawn in the fields past the burning white house. They also have rifles and they can do quite a bit of damage. The best place for cover is the burning white house, just keep away from the flames. You also need to watch out for the animals that suddenly start charging around. When everyone's dead, another boss fight will start. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Buff and Holstein | DIFFICULTY: ** | =============================================================================== | This boss fight is not too challenging. Buff and Holstein are riding around | | on bulls and they occasionally charge at you. Stay back the whole time and | | again, use your rifle to zoom in on them. If the bulls do charge at you, I | | find it easier if you make them chase you to an object and then just keep | | running around it and shoot them at the same time. When Buff and Holstein | | are dead, the level ends. | =============================================================================== |---------------------------------------------| | Alternate Strategy submitted by: Mike Walsh | |---------------------------------------------| I found that if you mount one of the cows (or one of the horses) that you can follow Buff or Holstein and shoot them, they shoot back of course, but I found it easier to aim at them while riding the horse. The cow occasionally bucks you off, and that sucks. But if you manage to kill 1 of the riders at close range, you can mount their bulls. I did so, and it didn't buck at all. I found it to be slightly faster to. I don't know if you will, but I thought it was. So just continue on shooting the other one by following him and shooting him in the back. If they slow down, you have to be quick to slow down to because they go to the side of you and then they're chasing you, and turning isn't very easy on one of those animals. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Holstein Hal - $350 Unlockables =========== - Good: The Ranch - Excellent: Holstein Hal |================================| | 4.12. Chapter 12: Saloon Fight | |================================| "Everybody ends up in the Brimstone saloon. With all the gold coming through, it seems like the drinks never stop flowing." ----------------------------- You are now back as Red and are caught up in a saloon fight. This can be quite hard, it took me a couple of days to get through this. There are three barmaids running around. They need to stay alive throughout the whole bar fight or else you fail the level. There's not a lot of advice I can give you here since it depends mainly on skill and speed. Your only weapon for this fight is a broken bottle. It takes several hits to knock someone over before they get up again, so you need to keep hitting the same person over and over. Make sure a floor is empty before going up or down to the next floor. The bandits seem to pick you up and throw you more than try to fight you. Be careful of this as it can lead to you being killed pretty quickly. Watch out for the fat bandit upstairs, he has an annoying tendency to throw you off the balcony and look out for the bandit hiding in the bathroom upstairs. Occasionally the bandits will drop health packs, pick them up as it usually fully restores your health. When everyone's dead, you are shown the next room and then a duel starts. This duel is pretty tough even though it's only 1-on-1. You need to hit this bandit with about four critical shots to kill him and he is pretty fast. Well done if you get through this duel the first time. After the duel you have to kill three more bandits. This is not too bad, they will mainly use the overturned tables for cover, so just run up to them and use Deadeye. One of them will drop a health pack. When all three are dead, a boss fight starts. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Sam | DIFFICULTY: *** | =============================================================================== | The first part of this fight isn't too difficult. Make sure you kill the | | dancers on the stage as they can kill you quickly. Then take care of the | | bandits around Sam up on the balcony, keep strafing the whole time and try | | to kill them with headshots. Sam is up on the balcony above you. You can | | only hit him when he is stunned. To stun him, wait until he picks up a | | barrel and then shoot him so he drops the barrel on himself. Use this | | chance to shoot him as much as you can. After you've taken about a quarter | | of his health, he jumps off the balcony. To stun him again, you need to | | make sure he charges into the overturned tables. Stay behind a table and | | wait for Sam to get near and spot you. When he charges he will charge | | straight into the table and stun himself. Shoot him as much as you can and | | repeat with all four tables. Now this is where the fight can get difficult. | | There is nothing left to stun Sam with so you'll have to trick him. Stay | | near a wall and wait for Sam to charge at you, at the last moment move away | | and he should charge straight into the wall. Deadeye works well when trying | | to do this. Killing Sam ends the level. | =============================================================================== |---------------------------| | Tip Submitted by: Dave O. | |---------------------------| When fighting Sam, I found it useful to jump on the stage and let him charge into that. He will stun himself that way as well, and you get hit a lot less. You have to jump off the stage after shooting him and run away though, because he'll jump up there after you once he's done charging. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Sam - $400 Unlockables =========== - Good: Dan - Excellent: Sam |===============================| | 4.13. Chapter 13: The Traitor | |===============================| "Before he became the wealthy man he is today, a remote bridge over the river was General Diego's favourite smuggling route." ----------------------------- The opening cutscene introduces General Diego and you now play as him. You start off outside your bunker. Run down the side of the bridge (it doesn't matter which side), and start shooting the enemies down here. Stay under the bridge most of the time to minimise the damage you take. You need to protect Cleu and Jose for about five minutes. If they die you will probably be suddenly outnumbered. Move between an enemy and either Cleu or Jose if they are in trouble. Keep moving the whole time to avoid being hit. After five minutes are up a cutscene starts. You now need to shoot the cannons on the other side of the bridge. You need to use your Flare Rifle to destroy the cannons. To do this, press R1 to aim your weapon and then press R2 to equip a flare and then press R1 again to fire it. There are 8 cannons to destroy. When about 7 have been destroyed another cutscene starts. Follow Juan and Alonso as they set the charges under the bridge. It takes them a while so be patient and kill anyone that bothers them. One or two of the enemies will drop health packs so pick them up and go back to covering Juan and Alonso. When the bridge is destroyed the level ends. Good luck on this level, I think it's the hardest in the game! ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: The Bridge - $450 Unlockables =========== - Good: The Bridge - Excellent: Max Health Increase |=================================| | 4.14. Chapter 14: Sunset Canyon | |=================================| "The ruins of Mission San Meland dominate Sunset Canyon, which leads to the sacred places on the slopes of Bear Mountain." ----------------------------- Back to Red again. Make sure you buy some fire bottles before starting the next level as it will come in very handy. You start the level on Sunset Canyon and you get a map for this level. When the level starts, run up the slope ahead and take out your Breech Loader and Deadeye the bandit on the right. Run forward and do the same to another bandit that appears behind the rock on the left. Follow the path round on the right instead of going up the slope and Deadeye the bandit on the horse. Get on the horse and go back to the slope I mentioned earlier. Ride up the slope and towards the ruins. Ignore any bandits around and a boss fight will start. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Stagecoach | DIFFICULTY: ** | =============================================================================== | If you bought the fire bottles earlier you should have no problem | | destroying the stagecoach. If you didn't buy the fire bottles then just | | keep shooting the coach with the Bayonet Rifle or the Breech Loader. Ignore | | the bandits shooting at you and just focus on the stagecoach. Chapter 15: Bear Mountain | |=================================| "Bear Mountain was the original homeland of the Red Wolf tribe. The bones of the tribe's ancestors rest in the sacred woods on the northern slopes of the mountain." ----------------------------- You are now playing as Shadow Wolf and again you have a map for this level. Jump over the rocks in front and follow the water round until you see a bandit. Use your Sacred Bow to kill him and another bandit on the rocks above. Climb up the gap in the rocks on the right and go across the fallen tree. Use the zoom on your bow to kill the two bandits around the camp fire below. Be careful as four more bandits will ambush you from behind. Use your R2 special to set them alight. Go back across the fallen tree and make your way down to the camp site. Climb up the rocks on the right and climb up to another camp site. Go through the tunnel just past the fire and kill the two bandits on the other side. Follow the path around and kill another bandit inside the cave. Kill the next bandit as well when comes to investigate. Pick up the health pack he drops and go through the cave. At the other side, look to the right and you'll see two bandits around a camp fire. Kill the one leaning against the tree first and then the sleeping one. Go across the fallen tree and follow the slope down to another campsite. Kill the two bandits here. The fat bandit will drop a health pack, so pick it up and kill the two bandits hiding behind the rocks around here. Follow the slope down to the water and kill the two bandits that appear behind the rock. Climb over the rock on the left and use your R2 special and zoom to kill the bandit up ahead. Pick up the health pack he drops if you need it and climb over the next set of rocks. Follow the water round and keep killing the bandits you encounter. Follow the path and kill the three bandits. Run through the cave and go right when you reach the water. Kill the two bandits around the campfire, again, kill the bandit that's awake first and then kill the other two after. Run past the campfire and into the water again. Climb over the rocks and you'll come to a boss fight. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Grizzly | DIFFICULTY: * | =============================================================================== | Surprisingly, this boss is quite easy. Just keep shooting him with the | | sacred bow. He is pretty slow and you'll be able to tell when he's about to | | tell when he's about to attack. Chapter 16: Jailbreak | |=============================| "About the only thing worse than being stuck in jail is being stuck in jail in a mine." ----------------------------- This level can be really hard. It took me ages to get past this level until I found out you can just run through the level and ignore the bandits. They don't really deal that much damage anyway. You have no guns and no map for the first part of the level. When the level starts run into the cave and watch the cutscene. After the cutscene wait until the bandit turns the corner on the right behind the rock. Crouch and go left. You should be able to sneak past him. Go right and enter the small room on the right. Still crouched pick up the key on the table. The bandit will not notice you. Leave this room and go left. Go left at the fork and open the door. The sleeping fat bandit shouldn't have heard you. If he does, quickly open the door before he has a chance to hit you. You now have a map for the next part of the level. Look at the map and you should see the supply room. You need to get there first. I just ran to the supply room and ignored all the bandits. When you reach the supply room, hug the wall before turning the corner and you should see two bandits guarding the door. You need to kill the fat bandit and take the key. Since you don't have any weapons, you have to use your fists. Quickly kill the fat bandit and run away. You need to make your way to the jail cell. Ignore the bandits and just concentrate on reaching the jail cell. Open the jail cell and pick up another key next to the cage. Now you need to run back through the level to the supply room again. Pick up the key in here and leave. Now, again, run back to the jail cell. Check your map occasionally to find out which way to go. The mine can be tricky to navigate. Open the jail cell to free the prisoner and buy a kiss from her for $1 to increase your health. Finally, you need to run to the lounge. It should be no problem since you'll have full health again. When you reach the lounge, a cutscene starts and a duel begins. This duel can be pretty difficult. 3-on-1. You have a gun for this duel and any enemies you didn't kill during the duel, you'll get the chance to kill after. When everyone's dead, the level ends. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: - Excellent: |============================| | 4.17. If the stagecoach is destroyed, you fail the level. You only have one weapon, the Lightning Rifle, so use that throughout the whole level. Zoom in and shoot the enemies that appear behind you on horseback. Don't worry about falling off because you can't. Stay at the back of the stagecoach since it gives you a few extra seconds to kill the enemies before they can hit you. Most of the enemies will spawn behind you on horseback so you should have enough time to know when they are about to appear. The driver will tell you where they are most of the time anyway. Use your R2 special to kill them when there is a large group of them. You need to keep the stagecoach in good condition. If the stagecoach is destroyed, you fail the level. There is not a lot of advice I can give you here since it relies mainly on speed and good aiming skills. Most of the enemies will be able to hit you unless you keep moving around the stagecoach the whole time. They will attack from all angles. Be careful of the enemies that jump down on top of the stagecoach, they can deal quite a bit of damage but they sometimes drop health packs. When you reach the end of the pass the stagecoach will stop and you'll have to take care of an ambush. Use your R2 special to kill them. Some of the enemies are hiding behind rocks. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Standing Snake - $650 Unlockables =========== - Good: Buffalo - Excellent: Gabriel Navarro |==============================| | 4.20. Chapter 20: Fort Diego | |==============================| "General Diego set up his base in an old fort, which had been abandoned after the war ended and before gold was discovered on nearby Bear Mountain." ----------------------------- You start the level behind a wall in the middle of Diego's fort. Go behind the wall and shoot the bandit up ahead. Shoot the bandit up on the balcony, and climb up there using the stacked wooden crates. Grab the health pack if needed and go into the next room. Drop through the floor in the corner of the room and take cover behind the wall. Watch the bandits' patterns so you can tell which order they come out in and you can then kill them with head shots while taking minimal damage. Deadeye works here as well. The bandit on the left will drop a health pack. Pick it up if needed after and go outside from the right. Just before you reach the outside, lean against the wall and kill the bandit standing guard with a head shot. Kill another bandit on the left just before the gap in the wall. Shoot the third bandit up ahead and follow the path. Be careful as a fat bandit will run out at this point. Kill him quickly and pick up the health if needed. Jump down into the area below. Using the wall for cover shoot the next two bandits behind the wall up ahead and run forward. Leave the health pack for now and come back to it later. Shoot the bandit hiding in the corner and lean against the wall. This next part can be very difficult. If you want run back through the door and use one of the walls back here for cover. There are about fifteen bandits that come after you here. Shoot the TNT barrel up ahead and shoot the next swarm of bandits that appear. When they are all dead, run forward and shoot the second TNT barrel. Be careful of the two bandits hiding behind the wall. Move forward, and go into the room on the left. Walk forward slowly and you can quickly deadeye the bandit that runs out from the left. Leave the health pack and go up the stairs. Kill the two enemies by the gatling gun and go back downstairs. Go through the door the fat bandit ran out of and you will be back in the area you started in only you won't have to worry about the gatling now. Strafe around the courtyard and use the crumbling walls for cover as you kill the bandits. Deadeye works well if you find yourself outnumbered. After about 3 or 4 minutes of shooting bandits a boss fight will start. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Colonel Daren | DIFFICULTY: *** | =============================================================================== | Colonel Daren has captured Shadow Wolf and is after you next. I just stood there firing at his head. Every once in a while there was a flash to warn me that I had about 2 seconds to step aside of the cannon ball. You can shoot the bandits that lean out of the windows of the train but you might want to save your ammo. Press the square button when you are close enough to the train and Red will leap on to the car. Immediately crouch to avoid the bandits shooting at you from the car behind you. Stay crouched and move behind the crates. Throw a dynamite inside the open train car to blow up the four occupants inside. One of the bandits will drop a health pack so pick it up and go back outside to the flat car. Jump on top of the train car you just exited and quickly run forward and drop down to avoid the attached machine gun on the top of the car. Shoot the red switch a couple of times to decouple the train car. Stay as far back as you can when you do this or you will lose the train for sure. Immediately jump back on your horse and make a dash for the train you've just let loose. Take too long and Diego will escape and you will fail the level. Keep riding forward and ignore the bandits shooting out of the windows. Soon you will come to a metal door with a red handle. Shoot the handle to open the door and jump on board. Run back through the train and shoot the bandits along the way. Deadeye is best. If you just plain ignored the bandits at the start of the level you can use the gatling gun to kill them now. After the bandits are dead, run back the way you came and shoot the red switch here to decouple the second car. After you've done that a cutscene will start. Jump back on to your horse and dash for the handcar across from the armored train. Jump on to the handcar and use the gatling gun to start firing at the train. You need to shoot the metal casing at the front of the train. You can shoot the bandits on horseback to make it easier for you but you need to focus on shooting the metal casing. After the metal casing is gone just keep firing at the train and it will eventually be destroyed. There are only about three enemies around the gazebo, one of which drops a health pack, and another two by the side entrance of the mansion. When they are all dead, Annie runs to the side entrance, and more bandits arrive from the stairs. Kill them quickly and don't let Jack or Annie take too much damage. When everyone's dead, run up the stairs (try to get up there before Jack and Annie), and start shooting the bandits that appear. Watch out for two that appear on the roof above. When they are all dead, there is another cutscene. First of all, the next part requires that everyone has a lot of health. If they don't, let them die as you will get to continue from the last cutscene. Annie says she will cover you from the balcony, but most of the time, she will get herself killed so this part requires a lot of patience. Follow Jack as he runs to the front door and stand in front of him. You will be ambushed continually by bandits the whole three minutes that Jack spends picking the lock at the front door. Stay behind him and don't move away too far or it's likely Jack will be killed. There will be several boss fights here, there are too many to list them (I counted six or seven). Fire bottles work well for the larger groups that ambush you near the end. When Jack has picked the lock, the level ends. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Jason Cornet - $1000 Unlockables =========== - Good: Mansion Grounds - Excellent: Jason Cornet |==================================| | 4.26. Chapter 26: House of Cards | |==================================| "The inside of the mansion is like a cross between a maze and a museum. If you don't know where you're going, you may never be seen again." ----------------------------- Annie will disappear for most of this mission, leaving you and Jack to reach the Governor yourself. When the level starts, you will be in the Governor's mansion, and will have to shoot your way to the roof. First of all, kill the bandits at the top of the staircase and then join Jack by the pillar and help him shoot the bandits that appear on the left side of the room. You might have to use the bear statue on the right side of the staircase for cover and finish off any remaining bandits. Hug the doorframe outside the dark room on the left side of the room and kill three more bandits that run in. Grab the health pack that one of them drops, and follow Jack through the dark room to the hallway at the back. Several bandits will ambush you here, so run back to the previous section of the hallway, and take out the bandits from here, using the wall for cover. Deadeye them if it helps. Run through the hallway and into the small section with the staircase on the left. Quickly run back to the previous section of the hallway and take cover behind the wall. Several more bandits will ambush you here. Three straight ahead, and one on the left by the staircase. If Jack still has most of his health, I suggest standing back and letting him deal with them, but help him if he starts losing too much health. When you reach the dining room at the end of the hallway, another bandit runs out from the door on the other side of the room. Kill him quickly. Run back to the previous section of the hallway and go up the stairs. Stay by the top of the steps and kill the bandits in the room on the left. If you are quick enough, you might be able to chuck some dynamite in there. Exit the room and head past the staircase to the hallway on the right. More bandits await you here, so take cover behind the pillar and shoot the bandits when they pop out. Again, don't let Jack get hurt too much. At the end of the hallway, a boss fight awaits. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Rhidian | DIFFICULTY: ** | =============================================================================== | Not a very hard boss but can at first be tricky if you are not sure what to | | do. Rhidian copies your movement patterns. If you take cover, so will he. | | There are two ways to beat this boss. The first, take cover and throw some | | dynamite at the pillar he is hiding behind. Repeat this until he is dead. | | The second, run out and use Deadeye. If you are quick enough, you can get | | several shots in at his head. Run back to cover if this doesn't kill him | | the first time. | =============================================================================== Grab the health pack he drops, and hug the doorframe at the end of the hallway on the right. There are four enemies in this room (sometimes, one will be out in the hallway, hiding behind the pillar). You can either kill them with whatever weapon you have, or throw some dynamite in there. When they are dead, approach the left corner of the room to trigger a cutscene. This is a checkpoint. If you die past this point, you will retry here. Red uncovers a secret passageway. Jack says he will keep the bandits at bay while you make your way through the secret passageway. After the cutscene, you will be in a wooden hallway. Run down the hallway, and shoot the bandits at the bottom of the stairs. Most of them will run off, so slowly venture down the stairs and pick them off when they appear. Grab the health pack that one of them drops, and go through the door on the left, at the end of the room. When the three bandits in the room across from the secret passageway spawn, run back to the secret passageway and hug the doorframe. Take the bandits out from here. When all the bandits are dead, there is a cutscene. Annie appears with the keys to the whole mansion and will help you for the remainder of the level. You now need to find Buffalo Soldier. Follow Annie out the door, and hug the wall on the right. There are three bandits in the next section of the hallway. Annie will take care of them, but shoot them if they get too close. Run through the next section of the hallway and two boss fights start. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Russ & Mark | DIFFICULTY: *** | =============================================================================== | The hard part about this boss fight is not the bosses themselves, but the | | bandits that run around. Stay back in the first section of the hallway and | | take care of the bandits before focusing on the bosses. Annie's special | | damages the bandits sometimes but don't let her get surrounded. Mark and | | Russ will both drop much-needed health packs, so pick it up and go back to | | the boss. | =============================================================================== Run up the stairs and kill the bandit with the rifle before he spots you. Use the pillars up here for cover and take care of the three remaining bandits. When all the bandits are dead, another cutscene is triggered. Annie finds Buffalo Soldier locked in a room and releases him. Annie goes off for the next part, and you team up with Buffalo. Red and Buffalo make their way to Governor Griffon's office, where a duel starts. I really don't know how I passed this duel. I managed to do it on the first try and have absolutely no idea how it happened. It's possible that it was a glitch. The thing about this duel is that you can't be sure if you win. If you do win, there will be a loading screen, I'm not sure what happens if you lose, since it hasn't happened to me yet. Winning the duel completes the level. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: None Unlockables =========== - Good: None - Excellent: None |===================================| | 4.27. Chapter 27: Fall From Grace | |===================================| "Governor Griffon has probably never seen the roof of his precious mansion before. Ironically, it might be the last thing he ever sees." ----------------------------- This mission is actually pretty short. You start the level on the lower part of the roof of Governor Griffon's mansion. Buffalo will be with you for the first part of the mission. There will be about three or four bandits on the roof above you, one of them has dynamite. Buffalo will take cover behind the chimney on the right, but I noticed that 99% of the time, the dynamite that one of the bandits throw will take out the other bandits leaving you to get to the next part easily. It might be a glitch though. A short cutscene shows Buffalo about to use some of his own dynamite to blow a hole in the wall and get to the top of the roof, but the Governor plants his own dynamite and Buffalo ends up trapped under the stone wall. You have to face Griffon on your own. =============================================================================== | BOSS FIGHT: Governor Griffon | DIFFICULTY: **** | =============================================================================== | When you start, you will be next to a small ramp that overlooks a skylight | | where Governor Griffon is crouching. Run down the right side of this and | | hug the wall on the left. From here, you can easily take pot shots at | | Griffon and most of the time he won't come after you. Watch out though, as | | he has a Scorpion that deals a lot of damage. It might be easier if you | | take out some of the surrounding soldiers first before focusing on Griffon. | | Try to avoid Griffon if he runs up to you as he will throw you and then | | kick you while you are down. After you've whittled away most of his health, | | a duel starts. | =============================================================================== =============================================================================== | DUEL FIGHT: Governor Griffon | DIFFICULTY: ***** | =============================================================================== | The duel is even harder than the boss fight, as it is the final duel in the | | game. Governor Griffon is very fast, and at first you might think it is | | impossible. Sometimes he just stands there, and then quickly shoots you or | | he might just pull out his gun immediately and shoot. You need about seven | | or eight critical shots to kill him. I found it easiest around his chest | | and face. The worst thing is, if you lose the duel, you have to go through | | the whole level again! | =============================================================================== Beating Governor Griffon completes the game, and unlocks two more difficulties. Hard and Bounty Hunter. The ending cutscene shows Sheriff Bartlett arriving at Governor Griffon's mansion. Annie has helped Buffalo Soldier back down to the ground and Sheriff Bartlett offers Red $5000 but Red refuses and hands the money over to Annie for her ranch. ----------------------------- Rewards ======= Bounty: Governor Griffon - $1250 Unlockables =========== - Good: The Scorpion - Excellent: Governor Griffon |=============================================================================| | 5. Bounty Hunter Walkthrough | |=============================================================================| Bounty Hunter mode can be unlocked after completing the game for the first time. In Bounty Hunter mode, you need to complete a certain objective to unlock a cheat, a showdown character, or a showdown level. |=============================| | 5.01. Chapter 01: Bulls Eye | |=============================| "Young Nate Harlow built a cabin a ways from Bear Mountain, partly to get some distance from the Red Wolf tribe after some folks weren't happy about him marrying Falling Star." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Bounty Hunter Objective: Shoot all enemies only in the head! Reward: Showdown Character - Falling Star ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ You won't need to worry about this objective until after the training section. You are stuck with the crappy pistol for this level. You need to get close and shoot the enemies in the head just once. You should have plenty of health from all the health upgrades. Nate will help you which should make the level a little easier. It really helps if you have the "Golden Gun" cheat first. |=================================| | 5.02. Chapter 02: Bounty Hunter | |=================================| "Little outposts like this crop up all over the West, to the disadvantage of many honest travelers." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Clear the level without being hit Reward: Curly Shaw - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found this easy. First, take cover behind the Prospector's cart, and then peek round and zoom in on the enemies with your rifle. The invincibility cheat doesn't work for this level so don't bother trying. When the boss fight starts, use your Scorpion, and use deadeye as much as possible. Aim for head shots and you should be alright. The "Golden Gun" and "Infinite Deadeye" cheats will make this level a cinch. |====================================| | 5.03. Chapter 03: Ugly Streetfight | |====================================| "This little town has fallen on hard times and is on its last legs. The only thing keeping the town alive is the O'Gradys." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Complete the level without hitting the sheriff. Reward: Twiggy Phelps - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another easy objective. Use the Scorpion to get through the level quicker and to make it easier, and then the boss fight starts. Use deadeye and strafe around Ugly Chris until you can aim at his back or his foot. Shoot him and he should drop the sheriff. Shoot him as much as you can before he picks the sheriff up again. You should only have to do this one or two more times to finish the level. |==============================| | 5.04. Chapter 05: Railroaded | |==============================| "Much has been written about the Pan-Atlantic Railroad being the greatest feat of engineering in the 19th century." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Defeat Hoss within 2 minutes! Reward: Sheriff Bartlett - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Another easy objective. The scorpion should be able to defeat most of the bandits in one or two hits. Keep running across the train carriages until you reach the first boss fight. Fawler can be easily defeated by using deadeye and aiming for his head. It should take one or two shots to kill him. When Fawler is dead, keep running along the train, and ignore the bandits shooting at you. You should have a lot of health to be able to take the hits by now and remember to jump over the wooden planks until you reach Hoss. Use deadeye and you should be able to kill him with three or four hits. |=================================| | 5.05. Chapter 06: Carnival Life | |=================================| "This abandoned Army outpost has been used as a stopping point for many a traveler, until Professor Perry and his cursed Carnival showed up." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Get a combo for over $500 and defeat Pig Josh. Reward: Fidgit - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only place I've been able to get this combo, is when Jack tells you to use the mounted gatling gun. Run up to it and press the square button to use it. Fire at anything that moves, and your combo should rack up quite fast. If it doesn't, drop down to the ground and finish off any remaining bandits. Once you've got to combo, you have to defeat Pig Josh, which you should be used to by now. |==============================| | 5.06. Chapter 07: Freak Show | |==============================| "Once upon a time, Widow's Patch had all the right features. Nowadays, the few honest folk left, lock their doors at night." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Kill Atlas and get a combo for over $300. Reward: Professor Perry - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found that the easiest time to get the combo is when you are fighting Slade and LaRouche. Use your double showstoppers and then press the R2 button. Fire like crazy until they are dead. I managed to get a $400 combo. When they are dead, you only need to defeat Atlas to complete the bounty hunter objective. The "Infinite Deadeye" cheat will make this level easier. |================================| | 5.07. Chapter 08: Rogue Valley | |================================| "It was hard enough getting to Clementine Falls through Rogue Valley even before it turned into a hideout for murderers." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Find the 3 treasures. Reward: Sissy Fess - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This objective is very easy, but takes time. The first treasure can be found near the beginning, after killing the first four bandits by the wooden bridge. Drop down on to the ledge under the bridge and the first treasure is on the second ledge below. The second treasure can be found around halfway through the level. Near the second ambush with the rock thrower, there is a small path that leads down, between some rocks and the wall. The treasure is down here. The final treasure can be found during the boss fight with Bad Bessie. Drop off the ledge on the left side. It is a big drop, but there is a health pack at the bottom that will give you back all your health. |==============================| | 5.08. Chapter 09: Ghost Town | |==============================| "Tarnation was the odd child of the territory. The town fell apart after most of the citizens left, except for that strange undertaker Mr. N. Black." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Complete the level in 4 minutes! Reward: Dig Fowler - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an easy and fun objective. Use your Scorpion to be able to kill most of the bandits in two hits. However, some of them can take up to five hits. Run through the whole level, shooting the bandits and picking up the health until you reach the duel. You should have about 2:30 left for the duel, which is easily enough time. The "Golden Gun" and "Invincibility" cheats will help you breeze through this. |=============================| | 5.09. Chapter 11: Range War | |=============================| "When Annie's father passed on, he left her a fine stretch of land near Bear Mountain, along with enough money to build a ranch and fulfil her dream." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Get a combo for over $200. Reward: Smitty - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only place I was able to get this combo was when several bandits spawned at the back of the level, in the fields. Just keep hitting them with your rifle until your combo starts going up. |================================| | 5.10. Chapter 12: Saloon Fight | |================================| "Everybody ends up in the Brimstone saloon. With all the gold coming through, it seems like the drinks never stop flowing." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Keep all three girls alive. Reward: Natalie - Showdown Character ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is hard to do. You need to stay on the bottom floor and watch out that the bandits don't start taking away too much of the girls' health away. Try to get to the bandit attacking each girl as fast as you can, and whack them with the bottle. If one of the bandits takes a girl upstairs, quickly follow them and kill him quickly. Remember to save one bottle to kill the remaining bandits. You can use the other bottles to kill the enemies faster. The other thing that makes this mission difficult is that you have to defeat Sam before completing the bounty hunter objective. If you die during the boss fight with Sam, you will have to start the level from the beginning. The "Golden Gun" and "Invincibility" cheats will help out a lot here. |===============================| | 5.11. Chapter 13: The Traitor | |===============================| "Before he became the wealthy man he is today, a remote bridge over the river was General Diego's favourite smuggling route." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Keep at least 2 charge settlers alive. Reward: Fallen Peak - Showdown Level ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is very hard to do, mainly because it's probably impossible to keep both of the guys at the beginning alive. So the best time is when the next two start to plant the charges on the bridge. Stay with them the whole time and keep shooting at anyone who bothers them. You will be able to pick up some of the health packs that are dropped. The "Golden Gun" cheat helps out greatly here. |=================================| | 5.12. Chapter 14: Sunset Canyon | |=================================| "The ruins of Mission San Meland dominate Sunset Canyon, which leads to the sacred places on the slopes of Bear Mountain." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Steal a horse without being spotted. Reward: Sunset Canyon - Showdown Level ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is easy. Start by turning around and running around the left side of the rocks. A bit further up, you should see two guards. Use your deadeye to kill them quickly from a distance. Keep running around the rocks and you should see a guard sitting on top of a horse up ahead. Shoot him in the back from a safe distance to kill him instantly. Now you can run up to the horse. |=================================| | 5.13. Chapter 15: Bear Mountain | |=================================| "Bear Mountain was the original homeland of the Red Wolf tribe. The bones of the tribe's ancestors rest in the sacred woods on the northern slopes of the mountain." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Get to the source of the river without alerting the patrolling guards. Reward: Grizzly - Showdown Level ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |--------------------------------| | Strategy Submitted by: hickey2 | |--------------------------------| Always use your bow, and ALWAYS zoom in with R3 when you have the chance. Also, I always crouch-walk just to be safe, using L3. ALSO, if you have the Bite the Bullet and Invincibility cheats, this is a cakewalk. Turn them both on--this will give you auto headshots on everybody (so just shoot them quickly), and any auto headshots they get on you will be meaningless, because you're invincible. Okay, here we go. Headshot the guy on the ground, then the guy walking up above. Go around the corner, shoot the guy with the torch above and to the right (it's hard to see his head). A guy will coming walking around the corner towards you--shoot him before he sees you. Shoot the standing guy at the campfire, then the sleeping guy. Climb up the rocks on the right and headshot the sleeping guy at the campfire, then the other one, quickly. Turn right and climb over the rocks there to find a little alcove where there is a treasure box; shoot it to receive the rifle "Faith." Go back to the last campfire and climb up the other rocks ahead. Going through the tiny tunnel, you will see a guy walking around with a torch; shoot him before he sees you. Another guy comes right after him: shoot him. Going around the corner a little further, there will be another guy walking towards you from a little tunnel area; double back and shoot him before he sees you. Walk around the winding narrow path a little farther; you will hear voices but see no one for a while. Go slowly and carefully. You will come to a part where there is a rock wall straight ahead and an opening up ahead to your right; soldiers are there around a campfire. One will be coming towards you on foot. Hang back and wait until he turns around (you can hear him jump on a rock, then he turns around immediately afterwards), then shoot him in the head from behind. You can see a sleeping guy in the distance ahead, but there is also a campfire up above and to your right. There is a big bearded guy in front of a tree by the latter campfire (he's kind of hard to make out)--shoot him; then a tall lanky guy springs up next to him--shoot him ASAP. Now go towards that camp fire and walk slowly down the slope; around the corner there is a campfire with 4 men (2 of whom are asleep). They will probably see you, but for some reason it does not end the mission. Kill them all. Go down and you'll see a campfire behind a big rock; sometimes there are two men there, sometimes there's nothing. They also do not end the mission if they see you. Kill them. Walk down the river a bit, but be wary that a guy will be coming around the bend; headshot him when he does--he usually sees you quickly. Another guy will be coming around the bend after him--kill him. Wait patiently until you hear a guy jumping over rocks; as soon as you see him, kill him. He sets off the alarm if he sees you. When you come to the end of the river, jump up over the rocks, and kill the guy there. Another guy waits beyond him in a little tunnel. After that you come out onto a river, and must headshot the four people ahead by the campfire without letting them see you. If you have the Bite the Bullet Cheat, it's a cakewalk. You come to the end of the river after that and the Bounty Hunter mission is complete. |============================| | 5.14. Chapter 17: The Mine | |============================| "They say gold makes fools of men. The Bear Mountain mine supplied enough gold for an army of fools." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Complete the level in 3 minutes! Reward: "Sad Stars" cheat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is easy. First kill Ted who is on the upper part of the mine. Now, wait for Tony to run up the stairs and you can easily deadeye him. The Scorpion will kill him very quickly, and you probably won't even need any cheats. |==============================| | 5.15. Chapter 18: Stagecoach | |==============================| "Some say that wagon drivers were the true heroes of the West. They faced more danger and saved more lives than the bravest sheriffs. This route was one of the worst." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Kill 40 enemies. Reward: "No HUD" cheat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a very difficult objective, since the enemies don't stay in one place for very long, and the sun constantly blocks your view. Killing 40 enemies is harder than it sounds. Practice your aiming until you are very fast and it should make the level a little easier. Zoom in and use your R2 special to kill the large groups of enemies. The "Infinite Deadeye" cheat will help a lot since it slows everything down and gives you more time. |==============================| | 5.16. Chapter 20: Fort Diego | |==============================| "General Diego set up his base in an old fort, which had been abandoned after the war ended and before gold was discovered on nearby Bear Mountain." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Get a combo for over $300. Reward: "Bite the Bullet" cheat. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only place I was able to get the combo was during the boss fight with Colonel Daren. You need to use the gatling gun and just unload on him. You will be able to get a $100 combo before he fires his cannon. When he does this, quickly take cover behind the wall and then get back on the gatling gun and continue shooting him. You have to be quick though. |===================================| | 5.17. Chapter 21: End of the Line | |===================================| "General Diego built his own private armored train to help him move lots of heavy gold. It was the most amazing machine folks around here had ever seen." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Get a combo for over $200 Reward: The Ranch - Showdown Level ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only place I was able to get this combo was by the front of the armored train near the end. After decoupling the second train handcar, ride over to the old man using the handcart and get on the gatling gun. Now just fire like mad at the bandits on horses and the train engine. Make sure you get the combo before destroying the train though. |=================================| | 5.18. Chapter 24: Battle Finale | |=================================| "What goes around comes around and the folks of Brimstone have turned a blind eye for too long." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Kill Mr. Kelley in 1 minute. Reward: "Infinite Deadeye" cheat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is hard. Mr. Kelley will run around all over the place and the pedestrians will get in your way. Use deadeye straight away to be able to knock away some of Mr. Kelley's health before he runs off. The "Golden Gun" cheat will really help here. |=============================| | 5.19. Chapter 25: The Siege | |=============================| "Everyone thought the Governor went overboard when he built a mansion fit for European royalty. Then again, there's not much for a millionaire to buy out here." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Complete the level with Jack's health at over 50% Reward: "Golden Gun" cheat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is most likely the hardest bounty hunter objective to complete. To be able to do this, you need to make sure Jack or Annie don't take any hits at all. Cover them at all times until you reach the cutscene where Jack tries to pick the lock on the front door of the mansion. Protecting Jack isn't really that hard, Annie's the problem as she runs downstairs and will probably get herself killed. The "Invincibility" cheat will help out here. |===================================| | 5.20. Chapter 27: Fall From Grace | |===================================| "Governor Griffon has probably never seen the roof of his precious mansion before. Ironically, it might be the last thing he ever sees." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bounty Hunter Objective: Complete the level in 1 minute! Reward: "Invincibility" cheat ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Believe it or not, this is easier than you might think. First you have to take out the bandits on the upper part of the roof. If you don't kill them with about 30 seconds left, restart. For the next part you will have to knock down Governor Griffon's health fast. Use the Scorpion and run up to him. Use deadeye and target him around the face. You need about four or five shots to take away nearly all of his health. When he gets up, quickly chase him down and shoot him a few more times to trigger the duel. The duel is the hardest part of the mission, obviously, but if you are quick, and have about 20 seconds left you should be able to make it. |=============================================================================| | 6. NOTE: After beating the game on Hard mode, I decided to try Red Wood Revolver mode. On RWR mode, you play as a very weird wooden mannequin-looking character. This character is Manny Quinn. Thanks to Jeff Donchi for the following information. It turns out I had missed a character. This character is Udo Kang. |---------------------------------------------| | Extra Information Submitted by: Jeff Donchi | |---------------------------------------------| The 47th guy in Udo Kang. For most characters you have to buy, it tells you that you are getting a showdown character, and with almost all of them you automatically get a journal page with them. But with Udo Kang it's the opposite. It tells you that you are buying a journal page, which you are, but with it you get a character. The item to buy to get Udo Kang is the blanket. You can get the blanket right before the duel tournament. |----------------------------------------------| | Extra Information Submitted by: Dave Pierson | |----------------------------------------------| I took my red dead revolver over to a friends, did the log in RSTAR, then me & my friend played multiplayer showdown to 15000 points(with 2 CPUs playing too) for like 6-7 hours, each playing every guy. then I played Story(for the first time around) and got to level 4 before switching back to multiplayer, at which point MANNY QUINN and BEAR became unlocked. |=============================================================================| | 8.
