[EpilogueStart] =============================================================================== Getting the No-Brainer Stuff Out of the Way [NoBrainerStuff] =============================================================================== Just so I can cover EVERY SINGLE BASE possible in this FAQ, I'm going to get all the no-brainer stuff out of the way so that we can focus on doing Monster Tricks, okay? It seems like no matter how much I explain something, people still have questions about the most basic stuff in SSX 3. So here is the Dummy's Guide to the Monster Trick Guide for Dummies. You must PREWIND your spin direction using the JUMP button before you can get good speed on any spin or flip in a jump. Prewinding is holding down the jump button and HOLDING the direction you wish to spin for a second or two BEFORE you jump. Then, let go of the jump button at the top of the ramp to get better air time and do faster spins. Continue holding the direction you prewound to spin at the faster pace. Push Left/Right in mid-air to do SPINS Push Up in mid-air to do FRONT FLIPS Push Down in mid-air to do BACK FLIPS To Tweak a grab, push the BOOST button while in mid-air. When you jump and do a grab, it is called the TWEAK button. To Tweak a Grab, you must first DO THE GRAB AND HOLD IT, then push the Tweak Button. For the Playstation 2, the Tweak Button is SQUARE. For X-box, it is LEFT TRIGGER. For Gamecube, it is the B BUTTON. That should just about cover all the bases. If you can't do the above, then you really have no business doing Monster Tricks, as you're still in the basic stage of SSX 3 gaming. Get golds on all events using regular tricks, then come back and try your hand at Monster Tricks. =============================================================================== Monster Tricks - List [MonsterTrickList] =============================================================================== Here is the list of Monster Tricks straight from the Complete SSX 3 FAQ. For most veterans of the game, the information presented here, should be enough to do most if not all of the Monster Tricks in the game. For those who don't, however, I will go in-depth with each and every Monster Trick after this list. Once you know how to read the names, doing them is very simple. It is essentially the same as a recipe on how to make Boiled Eggs, except the Recipe is not called "Boiled Eggs", it's called "Put Eggs in Pot Full of Water, Put Pot on Stove, turn on Burner, Heat Pot Until Water Boils for 15 Minutes". Seriously, all you *should* need to do Monster Tricks is the name. :) Let's take the most complex Monster Trick name in SSX 3 and break it down. BS Back Flip 360 Kort Martial to Late Stalefish +----------------------------------------------+ BS / Back Flip / 360 / Kort Martial / to Late Stalefish PART ONE: BS PART TWO: Back Flip PART THREE: 360 PART FOUR: Kort Martial PART FIVE: to Late Stalefish Part One: The Direction of any Spin [BS] +---------------------------------------+ The first part of each name represents the direction you should spin for the trick, either FRONTSIDE (FS) or BACKSIDE (BS). If you see BS or FS in the front part of the names, it will tell you which side you should spin if there are any spin tricks in the Monster Trick. If you want to know which direction (left or right) that is, see the "Frontside and Backside Spins" section below. Part Two: The Direction and Number of any Flip [Back Flip] +--------------------------------------------------------+ The "flip section" of each trick name lets you know whether a flip is needed to complete the Monster trick, and which direction you should flip, if any. This section will always read "Back Flip" or "Front Flip", and if you need to do more than one back or front flip, it will read DOUBLE (this means you must do two flips) or TRIPLE (three flips). Part Three: The Number of any Spins for the Trick [360] +-----------------------------------------------------+ The "spin section" of each trick name lets you know how many spins you must do in each trick. For some reason people have the hardest time getting this section, so I will go indepth into the numbers that these represent. The basic spin of the SSX series is the single spin, also called the 180. Since each basic spin causes the boarder to spin 180 DEGREES around, that is why it is so named. Each spin is therefore made up of multiples of 180's and that is how you determine how many times you must spin for a trick. Please note that each 180 will spin your boarder 1/2 complete rotation, so each basic spin will actually make your boarder switch to the other side of their board. A complete rotation would be named a 360, since it will cause your boarder to spin completely around and come back to the exact same position that they started. Here is a simple guide for 180s: DEGREE OF SPIN NO. OF SPINS ---------------------------------------- 180 1 360 2 540 3 720 4 900 5 1080 6 so on and so forth... The pattern will continue, and if you want to find out the number of spins required for each trick, just divide the number in the trick by 180 to find out. For example, a FS 1260 G-Money would just be a 7-spin trick since 1260 divided by 180 = 7. Part Four: Any Uber you must do [Kort Martial] +---------------------------------------------+ This is the name of the Uber trick you must do for the Monster Trick. The primary thing you MUST remember when doing Monster Tricks is that sometimes your character will NOT have the Uber in their trick list to be able to do the Monster Trick. So you must BUY the Uber trick for them by going to the Lodge and buying the Uber trick there. Once you have bought it, go to Character Details > Uber Tricks and assign the Uber Trick to that character. Until you do this, you will NOT be able to do the Monster Trick you want to do. For example, if I am using Elise and I want to do the BS Back Flip 360 Kort Martial to Late Stalefish, I need to have the Kort Martial Uber in my Uber list. So in Conquer the Mountain mode I will pause the game, go to Transport > Peak 1> Freeride > Yellow Lodge (or whatever color for the Peak you want to go to) and then once I have transported there I will ski to the entrance of the Lodge and select "Yes" for entering the Lodge. Once I am inside the Lodge, I will pick Character Details > Uber Tricks and find the Kort Martial and buy the Kort Martial. Then, I will go and assign the Kort Martial to my character. Then, and only then, can I do the BS Back Flip 360 Kort Martial to Late Stalefish. Part Five: Any late grab or Uber [to Late Stalefish] +---------------------------------------------------+ The very end of the Monster Trick name tells you if you must do any grabs AFTER you have finished the Uber in the Monster Trick. "To Late Stalefish" tells me that after I have completed my BS Back Flip 360 Kort Martial, I have to finish the Kort Martial and then do a single Stalefish grab and let go before I land. Sometimes the "to Late" trick will be another Uber, so the trick will say something like "BS 360 Stalefish to Late Kort Martial". In this case, you must do the grab FIRST (Stalefish), and do the Uber SECOND, and end the Uber before you land. =============================================================================== FS and BS: [FrontSdBackSd] Frontside and Backside Spins =============================================================================== Frontside (FS) and Backside (BS) describes the side and direction you should spin to get the Monster Trick done correctly. Of all the difficulties in Monster Tricks, this is probably the trickiest one to master: spinning to the correct "side" is something that even veterans fail at occasionally. It is VERY important to note that you MUST spin to the correct side to do a Monster Trick. If you are trying to do the BS 900 Jib-O, which requires a backside spin, and you spin to the Frontside (FS), and do a 900 Jib-O, you will NOT do the Monster Trick, you will just do a FS 900 Jib-O, which is a very lousy general trick. That's why making sure you do Monster Tricks right the first time is so important, because the tricks you will get if you mess up are rather lame. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ To understand what Frontside and Backside means, I have enlisted the description from the SSX 3 FAQ from spin master Gorf: "There is a VERY simple explanation, and that is when you turn, which side of your rider faces outside on the turn? His back or his front. If he's regular he'll be left foot forward... when he spins left his FRONT will be on the outside of the spin, when he spins right his BACK will be on the outside of the spin." Also, here's an even simpler explanation from Andrew: "If you just standing there about to do a jump, front side spinning will turn you so you face front first. i.e. if you're facing right, spinning to the left will make you face front so that's front side. Back side will make you face backwards first. Switch and stance are irrelevant if you keep this in mind." +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Now let me guess, you're still confused, correct? How does this tell me what direction to spin? Well, fear not, I have a simple table that will tell you which direction to spin to get a BS or FS spin. But pay attention, becuase it is NEVER as simple as press right or press left. The direction you should spin always depends on two factors: 1) Whether your character's default riding style is Goofy or Regular 2) Whether your character is in Switch Stance (S at the bottom of boost bar) Part One: Each character has a default riding style that they is their regular stance. If they face right when they start a track (their right leg is furthest back), their default stance is REGULAR. If they face left, (their left leg is furthest back), their default stance is GOOFY. REGULAR and GOOFY riders spin different directions from each other for their frontside and backside spins. Now, if your character is in their default stance and they do at least a 180, so that they are turned around from their default stance, then they will be in SWITCH mode. Every trick that has an odd number of spins (1, 3, 5, etc.) (180, 540, 720) will cause your character to be in Switch mode when they land. This means they are in the opposite stance from their regular one and that is always represented by an "S" on the bottom of the boost bar. Again, let me reiterate: You are in SWITCH stance if there is an 'S' at the bottom of the boost bar. So, now you need to know which characters are REGULAR and which are GOOFY, right? Okay, here you go: Six of the riders use REGULAR Stance: Griff, Kaori, Mac, Nate, Viggo and Zoe Four of the riders use GOOFY Stance: Allegra, Elise, Moby, Psymon So, if your favorite is Mac, you should use the REGULAR Spin table below. If your favorite is Psymon or Elise, you should use the GOOFY Spin table. REGULAR Spin Table _______________________________________________________ | | | Griff, Kaori, Mac, Nate, Viggo and Zoe | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | In Regular Stance: | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | FS (Frontside) Spin: LEFT | | BS (Backside) Spin: RIGHT | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | In Switch (S) Stance: | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | FS (Frontside) Spin: RIGHT | | BS (Backside) Spin: LEFT | |______________________________________________________| GOOFY Spin Table _______________________________________________________ | | | Allegra, Elise, Moby, Psymon | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | In Regular Stance: | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | FS (Frontside) Spin: RIGHT | | BS (Backside) Spin: LEFT | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | In Switch (S) Stance: | | +------------------------------------------------+ | | FS (Frontside) Spin: LEFT | | BS (Backside) Spin: RIGHT | |______________________________________________________| Using this table, you can determine what direction to spin, even if the camera is going completely crazy and is directly below or above you, like in some of the halfpipes (Schizo, I'm looking at you.) If you use the same character like me, then you will memorize which direction you should spin fairly quickly, especially if you do the same Monster Tricks over and over. =============================================================================== Monster Tricks - In Depth [MonstersInDepth] =============================================================================== In this section I have painstakingly and achingly disected each and every Monster Trick down to it's bare bones. I have listed the full names, the Trick Name, the point bonus you get from the Monster Tricks and even broken each trick down into the number of spins, flips, and which buttons to push for the trick. You should now know exactly how to do these tricks after reading this section. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS 540 G-MONEY [FS540GMoney] DA HOUSECAT BONUS: 10,000 Points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Frontside 540-degree spin with G-Money Uber Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 3 (1 1/2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: G-Money Difficulty: 1 out of 10 Button to push: (PS2: R1) (X-BOX: Right Trigger) (GC: Z) + Tweak Button This trick is about a simple as the Monster Tricks come. Simply jump, spin your character completely around 1 1/2 times (equaling 3 180s, or a 540), do a G-Money and land. If you can't do this one, well, there's just no helping ya. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ TRIPLE Back Flip SUPERMAN [TripleBFSman] APHRODITE BONUS: 10,000 Points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Three Back Flips with Superman Uber Direction of Spin: None 180's: None Flips: 3 Back Flips Uber Trick: Superman Difficulty: 1 out of 10 Button to push: Down PLUS UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1) (X-BOX: Right Trigger) (GC: Z) + Tweak Button Again, this is the simplest of Monster Tricks. Simply jump and do three Back Flips (prewind DOWN on the control pad, duh) while doing the Superman Uber. There are no spins using this Uber, so you don't have to worry about BS or FS spins. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS RODEO 720 SMITHEREEN [FSRod720Smith] THRICE BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Frontside Back Flip with 720 degrees of spin with Smithereen Uber Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 4 (2 times around) Flips: 1 Uber Trick: Smithereen Difficulty: 7 out of 10 Button to push: Down/Right or Down/Left, then Right/Left + PLUS UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1) (X-BOX: Right Trigger) (GC: Z) + Tweak Button In case you wondered, anytime you have to do a Monster Trick with a "Rodeo or Misty" + "Spin Requirement", it's a very tough trick to get consistently, so don't feel bad that you can't do it all the time. The trick to doing this Monster Trick consistently is to remember that a Rodeo or Misty always consists of ONE FLIP and 540 degrees of spin. That's it. If you were to write out a Rodeo as a Monster Trick, it would be Back Flip 540. So when you see a trick like "Rodeo 720", it's simply a regular rodeo with ONE extra 180 tacked onto it, that's all. Now, the question is, how do you do this trick? Well, you can do a Rodeo 95% of the time simply by prewinding DOWN + a side direction (like Down/Right or Down/Left) and then doing the trick and letting go of the control pad in mid-air. You will almost always do simply a rodeo or misty when you do this. Now, here's the trick to doing a Rodeo 720, when you prewind the direction, simply switch your thumb to the frontside spin only for a split second after you have launched into the air. This will cause your boarder to do a flip, but extend their spin to an extra 180, making the total spins 720-degrees or 2 total times around. It takes some practice, but once you get this down you will realize all you have to do is a FS Rodeo with a little extra thumb-time on the side direction. For example: Say I have to prewind down/right for a FS Rodeo. As I fly off the jump, I will switch my thumb to simply RIGHT for a split second, then let go. This will cause my boarder to spin a little more then they normally would, and I will get my extra 180 for my Rodeo 720. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS 720 TORPEDO [BS720Torpedo] SWOLLEN MEMBER BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Backside 720-degree spin with Torpedo Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 4 (2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Torpedo Difficulty: 2 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right with UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1) (X-BOX: Right Trigger) (GC: Z) + Tweak Button This trick is about a simple as the Monster Tricks come. Simply jump, spin your character completely around 2 times (equaling 4 180s, or a 720), do a Torpedo and land. If you can't do this one, well, there's just no helping ya. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS 900 MATTRICKULATER [BS900Mattrick] YELLOWCARD BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Backside 900-degree spin with Mattrickulater Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 5 (2 1/2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Mattriculater Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right with UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) + Tweak Button This trick is only difficult because it involves one of the longer spins in the game. 900-degrees is 2 1/2 times around, or 5 180's, so you may need a longer jump than normal and it can be tough to count the times around if you get a funny angle. Still, this one isn't very hard. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS DOUBLE BACKFLIP 540 KAROLICKER [FSDB540Karol] ALPINE STAR BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Two Back Flips with 540 degrees of frontside spin with Karolicker Uber Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 3 (1 1/2 times around) Flips: 2 Uber Trick: Karolicker Difficulty: 5 out of 10 Button to push: DOWN, then Left or Right PLUS UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) + Tweak Button This Monster Trick is one of the more valuable in the game, and although the directions to do it may seem difficult, it's actually very simple once you understand one thing about Monster Tricks - YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THE FLIPS AND SPINS AT THE SAME TIME. This applies to all Monster Tricks, but it's especially important for this one, because it makes this trick as simple as pie. First, as you go off the jump, do two Back Flips as you do the Karolicker Uber. Next do a Frontside 540, (1 1/2 times around, 3 180's) while still holding the Karolicker. Then, let go of the Uber trick and land. Simple as pie! This is actually one of the more valuable Monster Tricks in the game, so it would be very useful to learn it. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BACKFLIP NOSEGRAB TO JUDO [BackNosetoJudo] MXPX BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Single Back Flip Nosegrab to late Judo Direction of Spin: None 180's: None Flips: One Back Flip Uber Trick: Judo Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Down + Nosegrab: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) + Tweak Button This is a Monster Trick that would be a cinch, except that it involves a grab to a late Uber. Do do this trick, go off a jump and do a single Back Flip while doing a regular, old fashioned nosegrab. Then, let go of the nosegrab and do the Judo Uber. Make SURE you do the nosegrab FIRST, then let go and do the Judo while still in mid-air. If you don't do the nosegrab first, you will not get the Monster Trick. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS RODEO 720 DNL BOOST [720dnLBoost] ULTIMATE DNL BOOST BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Frontside Single Back Flip with 720-degree spin with dnL Boost Uber Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 4 (2 times around) Flips: One Uber Trick: dnL Boost Difficulty: 7 out of 10 Button to push: Down/Right or Down/Left, then Right/Left to UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) + Tweak Button The trick to doing this Monster Trick consistently is to remember that a Rodeo always consists of ONE BACK FLIP and 540 degrees of spin. Simply do a dnL Boost Uber while doing this and you will have your Monster Trick! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS 900 JIB-O [BS900JibO] BLACK EYED PEAS BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Backside 900-degree spin with Jib-O Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 5 (2 1/2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Jib-O Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right with UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1) (X-BOX: X) (GC: R) + Tweak Button This trick is only difficult because it involves one of the longer spins in the game. 900-degrees is 2 1/2 times around, or 5 180's, so you may need a longer jump than normal and it can be tough to count the times around if you get a funny angle. Still, this one isn't very hard. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS 900 INDIAN TO LATE METHOD [900IndiMeth] DEEPSKY BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Frontside 900-degree spin with Indian Uber to late Method grab Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 5 (2 1/2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Indian Difficulty: 5 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right with UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1) (X-BOX: X) (GC: R) + Tweak Button to late GRAB: (PS2: L1) (X-BOX: X) (GC: R) The grab is more complicated than some Monster Tricks, simply because it combines both a long spin (900 degrees) with a late grab after an Uber. Remember to do the Uber as you are spinning, then STOP the Uber and do the regular Method grab WITHOUT tweaking. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS MISTY 900 HAND IN HAND [Misty900Hand] BASEMENT JAXX BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Single Front Flip with 900-degrees of backside spin with Hand in Hand Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 5 (2 1/2 times around) Flips: One Front Flip Uber Trick: Hand in Hand Difficulty: 8 out of 10 Button to push: Up/Right or Up/Left, then Right or Left (same side), then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1) (X-BOX: X) (GC: R) + Tweak Button This is probably the single hardest Monster Trick in the entire game, and it's not that great of one, either. The bonus makes it barely worth the trouble, but if you can get it down it's good for its variety. To do this grab, remember that a Misty is basically a Front Flip with 540 degrees of spin. (It is the "front flip" version of a Rodeo.) To do a Misty as described above, simply prewind an upward corner of the control pad (up+left or up+right), then let go in mid air. Most likely you will do a Misty simply by doing this. Now to do a Misty 900 is much trickier and requires quite a bit of practice to get it down pat. Now, here's the trick to doing a Misty 900, when you prewind the direction, simply switch your thumb to the backside spin for an extended second after you have launched into the air. This will cause your boarder to do a Misty, but extend their spin to an extra 180, making the total spins 720-degrees or 2 total times around. It takes some practice, but once you get this down you will realize all you have to do is a FS Rodeo with a little extra thumb-time on the side direction. For example: Say I have to prewind up/right for a BS Misty. As I fly off the jump, I will switch my thumb to simply RIGHT for an extended second, then let go. This will cause my boarder to spin a little more then they normally would, and I will get my extra 360 degrees for my Rodeo 900. It really takes quite a bit of practice to get this uber down consistently, and it's very difficult to stall as well. The points are good, but not great. I'd say use this if you want to show off, but it's tough to do in a pinch. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS BACKFLIP 360 KORT MARTIAL TO LATE STALEFISH [BF360KortStale] FISCHERSPOONER BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Single Back Flip with 360-degrees of backside spin with Kort Martial uber to late Stalefish grab Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 2 (one time around) Flips: One Back Flip Uber Trick: Kort Martial Difficulty: 6 out of 10 Button to push: Down/Left or Down/Right, then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1) (X-BOX: X) (GC: R) + Tweak Button then GRAB BUTTON: (PS2: R1) (X-BOX: Right Trigger) (GC: Z) This Monster Trick is hard only because it's not always easy to get a Back Flip 360 instead of a Rodeo, but the easiest way to do it is not to prewind before you jump. Instead, simply tap down + whatever direction is needed for a backside spin (down/left or down/right) and then let go. You really only want to TAP the direction, not hold it for very long. Your boarder will do a very fast spin/flip combination, which in most cases will be a Back Flip 360. Once you have mastered how long to hold/tap the direction, do a very quick Kort Martial and then finish it up with a Stalefish grab. Although the bonus on this trick is good (20K), the late grab makes it slower than it would seem to be and limiting its effectiveness. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ DOUBLE BACKFLIP BAR HOP TO LATE MUTE [BFBarhoptoMute] CHEMICAL BROTHER BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Two Back Flips with Bar Hop Uber to late Mute grab Direction of Spin: None 180's: None Flips: Two Back Flips Uber Trick: Bar Hop Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Down, then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L2) (X-BOX: Y) (GC: L) + Tweak Button to GRAB BUTTON: (PS2: L2) (X-BOX: Y) (GC: L) This Monster Trick is very simple. Just do two Back Flips off a jump while doing the Bar Hop Uber, then stop flipping after 2 flips, and finish the Bar Hop Uber while you are still in the air. Then, simply do a Mute grab after the Bar Hop Uber has finished, and land. Simple, and a good bonus to boot. :) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS TRIPLE BACKFLIP 180 SSXORCIST [TripleBF180SSX] X-ECUTIONER POINT BONUS: 30,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Three Back Flips with 180-degrees of Frontside spin with SSXorcist uber Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 1 (1/2 rotation) Flips: Three Uber Trick: SSXorcist Difficulty: 5 out of 10 Button to push: Down, then Left or Right, then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L2) (X-BOX: Y) (GC: L) This is probably the single best Monster Trick in the entire game, next to Stoneage, because it is very simple to do and yet still has an excellent bonus that makes it very worthwhile. To do this trick, simply prewind down and start doing Back Flips, then as soon as you start backflipping, do your SSXorcist Uber. Once you reach your second Back Flip, you can do one of two things to finish it off. If you have a hard time doing it, simply do your third flip, then tap whatever direction is needed for a frontside 180, and let the Uber trick go. However, if you are in a hurry, the fastest way to do this Monster Trick is to do two flips, then tap DOWN in the corner of the frontside spin for a split second, then let go. The trick correction feature in the game will finish the trick for you and do the last flip and 180 AT THE SAME TIME, allowing you to finish the trick much faster. For example, I do my first two flips (while doing my SSXorcist Uber, you should always assume you start the Uber trick as soon as possible and hold it for as long as you can until the trick is done to run up its score.) Then, once I finish my second flip, I will tap Down/Right to do a FS spin (the direction my character would need THIS imaginary jump, it could just as easily be down/left) and hold down/right for a split second, then let go. The game will finish the trick for me with the trick correction feature much faster than if I had held the direction. If you want to set records, you should master this Uber because its 30,000 point bonus and ability to do quickly makes it one of best in the entire game. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS DOUBLE BACKFLIP 360 DNL FLIPIT TO LATE INDY [dnLFlipIndy] ULTIMATE DNL FLIPIT Bonus: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Two Back Flips with 360-degree frontside spin with dnL FlipIt Uber to late Indy Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 2 (1 time around) Flips: Two Back Flips Uber Trick: dnL FlipIt Difficulty: 5 out of 10 Button to push: Down, the Left/Right then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L2) (X-BOX: Y) (GC: L) + Tweak to late GRAB: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) The Ultimate dnL Flipit Monster Trick isn't that difficult to do if you remember that you can do the spins and flips of each Monster Trick separately. So when you jump off the jump, do both Back Flips and then do the frontside spins as you do the dnL FlipIt Uber. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS 720 INDY TO LATE KATANA [720IndyKatana] JUANA'S ADDICTION BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Backside 720-degree spin with Indy grab to Late Katana Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 4 (2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Katana Difficulty: 6 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right to Indy Grab: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) to UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1) (X-BOX: Right Trigger) (GC: Z) + Tweak This Uber is complicated only in the number of different things you have to do to get it done. Do your spin and do the basic indy grab while you are still spinning. You may have to stop spinning while you are doing the Katana uber (the uber is very slow), so be sure you don't over rotate and spin too many times. Once you have done the 720 spin, let go of the Uber and land, you're all set! +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS 1080 MORGAN GRINDER [1080MorganGr] AUDIO BULLY BONUS: 10,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Frontside 1080-degree spin with Morgan Grinder Uber Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 6 (3 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Morgan Grinder Difficulty: 3 out of 10 Button to push: Left or right to UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1+R2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + B) (GC: R + Z) + Tweak Not a difficult Uber, beyond the fact that it is a long spin. Remember that this spin is three complete rotations of your character, and stop before you over-rotate. The Morgan Grinder Uber is one of the fastest in the game so you can land it very quickly. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS BACKFLIP 360 Slinger [BF360Slinger] FINGER 11 BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Single Back Flip with 360-degree Backside spin with Slinger Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 2 (1 time around) Flips: One Uber Trick: Slinger Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Down/Right or Down/Left then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1+R2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + B) (GC: R + Z) + Tweak This Monster Trick is hard only because it's not always easy to get a Back Flip 360 instead of a Rodeo, but the easiest way to do it is not to prewind before you jump. Instead, simply tap down + whatever direction is needed for a backside spin (down/left or down/right) and then let go. You really only want to TAP the direction, not hold it for very long. Your boarder will do a very fast spin/flip combination, which in most cases will be a Back Flip 360. If you are having difficult getting this off, try doing the Back Flip first then doing the backside 360 spin after that. It is a much slower way of doing it (MUCH slower), but easier. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ FS MISTY 720 SVELTON TO LATE NOSEGRAB [Misty720Svelt] N.E.R.D FLY OR DIE BONUS: 30,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Single Flip with 720-degree frontside spin with Svelton Uber to late Nosegrab Direction of Spin: Frontside 180's: 4 (2 times around) Flips: One Uber Trick: dnL Svelton Difficulty: 8 out of 10 Button to push: Up/Right or Up/Left, the Right or Left (Same Side), then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1+R2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + B) (GC: R + Z) + Tweak to LATE NOSEGRAB: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) This is a very difficult Uber to do simply because it's a Misty 720, with an Uber to a late grab. It's a lot of things to do in a Monster Trick, so it will take some practice if you want to do it consistently. But the bonus on this Monster Trick is 30,000 points, which is the highest in the game, so learning it can be advantageous. First off, remember that a Misty 720 is simply a Misty with an extra 180 on it, and push Up + Frontside spin direction and then hold that same side to do an extra 180. (Like if Up/Left is Frontside Misty direction, push that direction, then push left to do an extra 180.) Make sure you don't over-rotate. As you do this, do a Svelton Uber and let it finish, (you will probably be sitting still in mid-air by this point) and then do a late Nosegrab and land. It can be very easy to overrotate, so this Uber takes quite a bit of attention to detail to do. Luckily the score is good enough to make it worth it. left alone +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ TRIPLE BACKFLIP NOSEGRAB TO LATE LUKELOO [TriBFtoLukeloo] OVERSEER BONUS: 30,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ 3 Back Flips with Nosegrab to Lukeloo Uber Direction of Spin: None 180's: None Flips: Three Uber Trick: Lukeloo Difficulty: 5 out of 10 Button to push: Down, then NOSEGRAB BUTTON: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: R1+R2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + B) (GC: R + Z) + Tweak This Uber is one of the top 3 in the entire game because it is easy to do, easy to stall out and gives an excellent score with a 30,000 point bonus. To do this uber, simply do three Back Flips, and as you are starting the Back Flips, do a nosegrab and let go (as soon as possible for maximum score) then do and hold the Lukeloo Uber. Make sure you don't over-rotate on the Back Flips, and hold the Lukeloo as long as possible. This is a very useful, easy, and high scoring uber. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS DOUBLE BACK FLIP 180 MADONNA [DoubBF180Mad] STONEAGE BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Two Back Flips with 180-degree Backside Spin with Madonna Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 1 (1/2 time around) Flips: Two Uber Trick: Madonna Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Down, then Down/Right or Down/Left then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) + Tweak This Uber is probably the single fastest, highest scoring Uber in the game because it is so easy to do and quick to land. This and the X-Ecutioner are the two primary Monster Tricks that people use for getting high scores because they are simple to do, are fast and have big bonuses. Learning this one will raise your scores significantly. There are two ways to do this Monster Trick, the first is to do the two Back Flips, THEN do the Backside 180. This is the easier way, but it's also the MUCH slower way. To do this Monster Trick much faster, simply push in the downward backside CORNER of the control pad and you will do the final flip and 180 at the SAME TIME, allowing you to do it much faster. (For example, if you have to spin to the left for a Backside spin, after the first Back Flip, push Down/Left for a split second and let go. The game will do the final spin/flip at the same time and the trick correction feature will finish the trick quicker for you. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ DOUBLE BACKFLIP VACATION TO LATE NIFTY SHIFTY [BFVacToShifty] AUTOPILOT OFF BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Two Back Flips with Vacation Uber to Late Tweaked Shifty Grab Direction of Spin: None 180's: None Flips: Two Uber Trick: Vacation Difficulty: 6 out of 10 Button to push: Down, then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) + Tweak then TWEAKED Shifty Grab: (PS2: L1+L2+R1+R2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X + Y + B ) (GC: L + R + Z) + Tweak Button The most important thing to remember about this uber is that you must tweak the late Shifty grab to get it to work. The Shifty grab is done by pushing all the grab buttons on the controller, and a NIFTY Shifty is the tweaked version of this grab, so pushing all the grab buttons on the controller and then pushing the Tweak button is how you do this Monster Trick. This Monster Trick has a decent bonus, but the late grab slows it down a lot, so it's up to you to use it. It's not terribly difficult, simply do both Back Flips as you do the Vacation Uber, then let go of the Vacation and then do the Shifty grab and Tweak it. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS 360 NIFTY SHIFTY TO LATE FOOTLOOSE [BS360ShiftyFoot] THE AUTOMATOR BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Backside 360-degree spin with Tweaked Shifty Grab to Footloose Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 2 (1 time around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Footloose Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right, then TWEAKED Shifty Grab: (PS2: L1+L2+R1+R2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X + Y + B ) (GC: L + R + Z) + Tweak Button to UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) + Tweak This Monster Trick is only difficult because you have to first have to do a Shifty grab (all the grab buttons on the controller) and tweak it (a NIFTY Shifty), THEN do the Footloose Uber while doing your BS 360. Just do the 360 very quickly and do the grabs while you are not spinning in the air. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ BS 540 INDY TO LATE TRICKITELLO [540IndytoTrick] PLACEBO BONUS: 20,000 points +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ Backside 540-degree Spin with Indy Grab to Trickitello Uber Direction of Spin: Backside 180's: 3 (1 1/2 times around) Flips: None Uber Trick: Trickitello Difficulty: 4 out of 10 Button to push: Left or Right, then INDY GRAB: (PS2: R2) (X-BOX: B) (GC: R + L) then UBER BUTTON: (PS2: L1+L2) (X-BOX: Right Trigger + X) (GC: L + Z) + Tweak This Monster Trick is only complicated by the fact that you must do a regular Indy grab BEFORE you do the Trickitello Uber. Simply do your 540 Backside spin then do the Indy grab, THEN do the Monster Trick. Simple as pie. It's a rather slow Monster Trick, but the bonus is decent. +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ END OF MONSTER TRICK SECTION This marks the end of the Monster Trick In-Depth section. If you can't figure out how to do Monster Tricks after this, I have one thing to tell you - PRACTICE! Then practice some more! Seriously, there's nothing better than just sitting down in freeride for an hour and doing the same trick over and over. By the time that hour has passed, you will no longer be a trick newbie, and instead be laughing at all the people who have to read this guide just to do those easy-as-sin Monster Tricks. I will now cover the more Advanced Techniques used in Monster Tricks to get the highest echelon of scores. Make sure you can do the Monster Tricks in your repertoire blindfolded before you attempt any of the Advanced Techniques, because I will act as though you can do your Monster Tricks and are well familiar with the the trick System in SSX 3. No more hand-holding, time to get serious about hitting the scoreboards. =============================================================================== MONSTER TRICKS - ADVANCED TECHNIQUES [MonsterAdvTech] =============================================================================== The TAPPING Trick =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= So when you watch movies of SSX 3 on the Internet, you see guys with mad skills like MrChaos doing flips or spins at an unbelieveable speed. "They must be cheating!" you say. No, oh small-minded one, they're not cheating. They're tapping. That's right, tapping. In Laymen's terms, they're tapping the direction they need to flip/spin instead of just holding it. Tapping the direction causes your boarder to spin FASTER than if you simply HELD the direction you were supposed to spin. That's how they're able to do Stoneage Ubers off of any jump it seems, and also how they do their Back Flips for the X-Ecutioner so fast. Tapping makes your character spin faster than holding the direction because each time you take your finger off the direction, the game's TRICK CORRECTION feature (explained below) quickly tries to finish out your spin/flip for you. The trick correction feature is much faster than your regular spinning speed when you hold the trick, so you spin much faster. Tapping allows you to continuously spin, and speed up your spins at the same time. If you are NOT tapping, there's no way you'll be able to get the required amount of spins in off the smaller jumps in the game. The TRICK CORRECTION Feature =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= The Trick Correction feature is a very important feature to take advantage of when doing Monster Tricks. The Trick Correction feature will finish any trick you were doing for you after you let go of the control pad. How do you work this to your advantage in Monster Tricks? Well, simple. On tricks that require an extra 360 or flip, simply get to the very last flip or spin for that Monster Trick and then let go. The Trick Correction feature will finish the Monster Trick for you. For example, to do Two X-Ecutioners in one jump in the Superpipe events, you should use the Trick Correction feature to speed up the final "flip 180" of the X-Ecutioner. This will allow you to start the second X-Ecutioner much earlier and enable you to land it well before you run out of air time. The actual method should go like this: Prewind Down, take off jump, begin TAPPING down, start your SSXorcist Uber, continue tapping until you reach finish your second Back Flip, then tap down + whichever side is frontside and hold it for a split second, then LET GO. The Trick Correction feature will finish out the trick for you, doing the final Back Flip and 180 at the same time, shortening it's length considerably. Mastering this technique makes the game work FOR you, instead of against you. Why do more work then you have to? The SMURPHY Trick =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= You're cruising the online scoreboards and scoff at the ability of some people to get a million points on a Big Air event, or 4 million points on a Superpipe event. They're cheating, you say, because this just isn't possible since you yourself can't do it. Well, just because you can't do it doesn't mean much. You just haven't mastered the single most revolutionary trick in SSX 3 Showoff events: the Smurphy Trick. The Smurphy Trick is a glitch in the Trick System in SSX 3, allowing you to do not only two or more tricks in jumps with enough air time, but also allowing you to use the same Monster Trick OVER and OVER REPEATEDLY without seeing your scores being cut in half each time you do the same trick. In order to do the "Smurphy Trick" you must do a Monster Trick in mid-air, give it a second to register (stop briefly for a moment), then do at least another 180 (or another Monster Trick) to have it register again and you can get full points for your MT's on each jump. What will happen is that you will hear the announcer say "Monster Trick" while still in mid-air, and then you will get the FULL bonus for the Monster Trick even if you've done it before! The scientific explanation of the Smurphy Trick is this: "Any late flip or spin trick done after a Monster Trick will allow you to do that same trick again on a different jump with no penalty." So on jumps where you get enough airtime, you can do more than one Monster Trick per jump, and if you are able to fit at least one more 180 spin after you have finished your Monster Trick, you can do it again the very next time for full score! Just for the record, the Smurphy trick was probably discovered by NDogg6 a few hours before L12 SmURphY (who the trick is named after). But L12 SmURphY was the person who informed me of the trick first, and therefore he gets the honor of having the trick named after him, heheh. It's like the whole telephone controversy...supposedly some guy in France discovered the telephone before Alexander Graham Bell, but does he get the credit? Nope, cuz no one knew he had done it before Bell blabbered to the whole world. Early bird and the worm, people! :D Important notes about FS and BS spins when doing the Smurphy Trick: +------------------------------------------------------------------+ If you are employing the Smurphy trick and doing more than one Monster Trick in a jump, it is VERY important to remember that if a Monster Trick normally causes you to land in Switch stance, sometimes you will only become Switch after every TWO Monster Tricks that you do in mid-air. So if you are doing the X-Ecutioner (Triple Back Flip 180) and you take off in regular stance (non-switch), you have to do TWO X-Ecutioners before you will become SWITCH. Here's an example of what I mean. The X-Ecutioner is a FS Triple Back Flip 180 SSXorcist. Normally, after I start this trick in Regular stance, I will land in Switch mode because it requires 180 degrees of spin. But doing the Smurphy Trick means I do more than one in a jump, so I will be in Regular Stance for the second one as well. So, if I must spin RIGHT to do the 180 for the first X-Ecutioner, I must spin right for the SECOND one as well. However, if I can one more, I will have to spin LEFT for the THIRD one, since my stance changes every two X-Ecutioners. In other words, every two Monster Tricks in mid-air, the spin direction changes. :) STALLING out your Monster Tricks =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= So you've mastered the Tapping Trick, Smurphy Trick and Trick Correction feature of the game, and you're wondering how to get that little extra bit of score to beat the Master at his own game. Well, once you have gotten so fast at doing two X-Ecutioners in a jump, stall it out. Wait until the very last flip/spin in your trick and then push the opposite direction until a split second of your trick to rack up 3-5K of Stall Bonuses. Then let the Trick Correction feature of the game finish out your trick and land like the Master you have now become. While this may not seem like much, in a typical Superpipe mode of 20 or more jumps, this can mean 80-100K of extra tricks. In most cases however, you need really great air to stall out the Monster Tricks, so practice practice practice. When you get phenomenal at doing two X-Ecutioners in one jump, then try an X-Ecutioner to Stoneage to Stoneage, and see how good you are. :) After you can do this, you no longer need my help, because you're probably good enough to beat anyone's scores, including mine. :) =============================================================================== FINAL WORD ON MONSTER TRICKS =============================================================================== I have now harped on about Monster Tricks for more than 50K of text, and gone into such mind-numbing detail that MY mind is now numb. You should be able to do each and every Monster Trick in the game no problem, so instead of saying how hard these Monster Tricks are, amaze your friends by doing Monster Tricks each and every jump! Before you know it, you will be busting 1 million on each and every air, 3 million on all the Superpipes (and 4 million on Perpendiculous), and who knows how many millions on Slopestyle (the Slopestyle Masters are still running up the score.) All these milestones and unbelievable scores are not only possible, but now routine, simply because of Monster Tricks. And you just mastered them all. Go out and kick some butt. =============================================================================== YOU ARE NO LONGER A DUMMY ABOUT MONSTER TRICKS.
