Introduction
Tales of the Abyss - Din's Shop Guide Version 2.00 Written by: Hikari62
Welcome to the Din's Shop Guide for Tales of the Abyss. For those who don’t know, Din’s shop is right by the Northern exit in Chesedonia. Basically you take Din certain trade items gotten from search points (the rising circles on the world map; search points run out of items when you examine them a few times, but as soon as you enter and exit a town/dungeon they replenish and you can get more items from them) and accumulate points in different categories such as swords, bows, body armor, etc. When you have enough points you can pick an item category you want to make something from and pay Din gald and she will have an item for you the next time you enter her shop. The rarity of the item depends on the amount of gald you pay, the level of the category, and how many points you have accumulated in the category. This guide was made to help you all get exactly what you want from Din.
Please read the chart explanations that I've written, otherwise all the charts will probably be very confusing to you.
If you see any typos or mistakes in this guide, please send me a PM.

Where and how to get trade items
Using this chart you can figure out where and how to get a specific trade item. I put them in order based on rarity. I’m going to list the items you need to get points and where to find them in each category's section so you guys don’t have to keep referring to this, but it might still help.
The top row tells you what title you should equip on Natalia to get the highest chance to get the item you need (none means any other title other than the 4 described below).
The numbers are what search point the item is located at. Natalia’s titles change the percentage of getting different ranked items to 80% so if utilized properly you will almost always get what you want when examining search points. If you don’t have most of these titles I suggest you get them before attempting to make a lot of stuff at Din’s. It will make things much easier on you. I’ll briefly explain how to get them.
- Curious Princess – (80% chance of getting rank 2 items) Make at least 5 items from Din’s shop and find search points 1-6, then enter Din’s with Natalia as the on-screen character.
- Star of Malkuth – (80% chance of getting rank 3 items) Talk to the kid dressed like a cow in Nam Cobanda Island and complete the sidequest.
- Labyrinth Princess – (80% chance of getting rank 4 items) If you give the man on the right side of Keterburg’s hotel 200,000 gald you will be able to play his labyrinth mini-game. Complete it with Natalia to get the title.
- Adventurous Princess – (80% chance of getting rank 5 items)Find all 29 search points (look at Cyllya’s world map if you need help locating them all; only the first 18 search points give you trade items and those are the only ones that appear on the world map search point list in the game). Then equip the Curious Princess title and talk to Din as Natalia, you should get the costume.

A note about ranks: Every item, in all the guides I’ve looked at, is also given a rank (the letter followed by the number). I’m not entirely sure what it means or how to apply it, and I have been trying to figure it out for a while now. It doesn’t seem to be terribly important at least. I’m fairly certain it relates to leveling up categories since C items are used to go from lv1-lv2, B items are used to go from lv2-lv3, and A items are used to go from lv3-lv4. I still don’t know what the numbers mean though, so if anyone knows please PM me so I can add an explanation. I still included it in the chart for anyone who does know what it means.
Anyway, I do know the items without ranks don’t give points to any category and are essentially worthless. Din just gives you 20 gald for each one you bring in, which, obviously, is a pathetic amount of gald.
Point System Explanation
I’m going to explain this to the best of my ability. My understanding is based off my experience and what I’ve read so it may not be perfectly accurate. If you see something wrong with this explanation please PM me and tell me.
When you bring trade items to Din depending on what items you give you will get points for specific categories. For example, if you brought Din 1 iron ore you would get 1 point in the sword, spear, and body armor section. When you accumulate enough points for the first level of a category the option to order from that category will appear under the 'make an order' menu.
When you make an order from Din it costs you points. It is very important to note that each category’s points are independent of the other categories. So if you make a sword your points won’t get deducted from bows, staffs, or any other category, only from the sword category. Also note that you don’t lose ALL your points when you make something, the amount of points you lose depends on the consumption points of the item.
Lower class items cost only a small amount of points while Special Request items tend to cost much more. Spending points also decreases the category’s level (levels are explained in more detail under the chart explanations section), so unless you have a ton of points built up you’ll have to go out and search for items again to increase the level back up when you want to make something else. So if you’re going for a special request, make sure not to make anything else in that category, otherwise it’ll take longer for the special request option to open.
There's no way to know how many points you have in a category, but it's not really that important. If you're focusing on one category and bringing Din all the items that give points to that category, you'll have enough points to get what you want within a few trips, with the exception of the herb category which requires quite a bit more points than the others. Every item's consumption point value is listed in its category.
How much gald to pay Din
You’ll get different class items depending on the amount of money you pay Din. The level affects how much Din asks you for and what type of items you can get.
Levels are independent for each different category and rise based on the number of points accumulated in each section and by giving Din certain trade items (the items and points for leveling up will be shown in each category’s section).
The chart below shows exactly what and how many of each class item you’ll get depending on what you pay. So Class 1x3 means you’ll receive 3 class 1 items. The chart below that shows what prices Din asks for in each level. As you can see certain items like weapons have different pricing than other items like armor. If you want to know what class a certain sword/bow/etc is, then look in that item’s section.
If there’s more than one item in a class then the item you receive from Din is random, unless you don’t have enough points for the higher point item, in which case you’d get the item worth the lowest points. So if you’re not sure what item you’ll get it helps to save before ordering and just load up again if you didn’t get what you wanted.
The class of items you’ll receive:
Nothing | Small Price | Medium Price | Large Price | |
Lv1 | Class 1x1 | Class 1x2 | Class 1x1 Class 2x1 | - |
Lv2 | Class 1x2 | Class 2x1 | Class 2x2 | Class 1x1 Class 3x1 |
Lv3 | Class 1x3 | Class 2x2 | Class 3x1 | Class 3x2 |
Lv4 | Class 1x5 | Class 2x3 | Class 3x2 | Class 3x1 Class 4x1 |

Chart Explanations *IMPORTANT*
Now I’m going to go into each category and tell you what you can make, what class all the items are, what items are needed for leveling up, and what trade items give points in each category. I’m going to include notation for where to find the trade items so you guys don’t have to keep referring to the search point chart or the trade items chart.

Chart Explanations
I'll show an example of the layout for each item type section, and explain how to read it.
- 1 point: Basilisk Scale (SP16 CP, SP9 SM), Chokmah Bark (SP2 SP)
- 2 points: Firewood Bug (SP10 SM), Gel Base (SP1 CP/SM)
- 3 points: Phantom Vegetable (SP10 LP)
- 4 points: Plant Worm (SP5 LP)
In each section I first list what items give points to that item type. I am using the key above so list where to get each item so you don't have to keep referencing the search point charts. So if I list Highland Ruby (SP13 AP) it means you can find Highland Rubies at Search Point 13 with the Adventurous Princess title equipped. Keep in mind some items can be found in more than one place, and other items sometimes come from the same search point so I suggest you alternate which one you get every other trip. More items give 1 point than 4 points.
Class | Item | Effect | Consumption Points | Special Request Item |
1 | A | ... | 4 | - |
2 | B | ... | 20 | - |
3 | B | ... | 60 | - |
4 | C | ... | 100 | - |
Special Request | S | ... | 160 | Phantom Vegetable |
The first chart under each category will look like the chart above, and shows what class different items are, what you can make in each category, what the item does, how many points it consumes when it’s made, and the item required to give Din when asking for a Special Request.
Also, for those completing the collector’s book, in each category’s section I will tell you whether the items you can make are exclusive to Din’s or not.
Leveling Up | Necessary Items | Necessary Points |
Lv1 | - | 5 |
Lv1-Lv2 | Coral, Basilisk Scale, Holy Water, Glowing Moss, or Giant Shell | 25 |
Lv2-Lv3 | Phantom Fish, Plant Worm, Chokmah Bark, Linkite Nut, or Giant Fish Bone | 50 |
Lv3-Lv4 | Phantom Vegetable or Meteorite Fragment | 100 |
Special Request | - | 160 |
The second chart looks like the one shown above, and shows how to increase each category’s level (remember levels affect the prices Din asks of you and that affects how good an item you’ll get). To level up a category you must bring Din certain trade items as well as accumulate a certain number of points (some lower levels and special request don’t require certain “level up” items, just so long as you have the points). I’m going to use the gel category as an example. To get the gel option to even appear you need to get 5 points in the gel category. Once it’s at level 1 to get to level 2 you must get at least 25 points and bring Din one Coral, Basilisk Scale, Holy Water, Glowing Moss, or Giant Shell (this does not mean one of all of the items, just one of any of them). If you never bring in any of those items the gel category will remain level 1 no matter how many points you have.
The process continues like that for the successive levels. It is important to note that you must bring in the required “level up” items only after unlocking the level before. So bringing Din a Phantom Vegetable or Meteorite Fragment (required items to unlock gel lv4) while the gel category is only lv2 will not help you; you’ll still need to bring in another Phantom Vegetable or Meteorite Fragment when you get to level 3. This means that the special request option will not unlock until you get the category to level 4.
Some categories start at higher levels Oh, and some categories don’t start at level 1; sometimes they start at lv2 or lv3, but this doesn’t affect the system, only that those categories require more points to unlock. Now that your brains are probably exploding with information, I’m going to tell you that it’s not entirely necessary to pay attention to the level up chart. All the “level up” items are also items that give points to the category so as long as you are going around and getting all/most of the items each trip the levels should unlock with no problem and the special request option/highest level should appear within 2-3 trips.
Focus on one category at a time
When searching for trade items and trying to make stuff at Din’s, I suggest you focus on one category at a time (that’s what this guide is most easily used for). The easiest way to do it is to just go through the list of items at the top of each category’s section and collect them and then give the items to Din and if whatever level you need isn’t unlocked go through the list again. Since you can only get a few items from search points each time you examine them and some items are obtained from the same search point it can get a little overwhelming trying to get points in more than one category at once (although you still will be even if you’re focusing on one category because the items give points to multiple categories at the same time).
Special Requests Explanation If you get enough points in any particular category (the amount varies) and get the category to level 4, a special request option will appear in the menu when you talk to Din. These items are the best in the categories, and making them works a bit differently. They still require you to spend points, but you’ll know exactly what it is you’re ordering and it doesn’t cost you any money. Instead Din will ask you for a specific trade item when you place the order (the item needed is listed in the first chart in each category), and if you have one in your stock she’ll ask if you want to trade it for the item.
The Special Request Item is always one that already gives points to a category so you can look at the list of items at the top of each category's section for where to find it. Don’t forget that if you’re trying to get the special request option to show up you don’t want to be making anything else in that category, otherwise you’ll be spending points and it’ll take longer to show up. Also, a few categories don’t have any special request items at all.

Luke’s Soul Crush, Tear’s Blue Crystal Rod (has the highest F.At, there are other weapons with higher physical attack for her), Anise’s Grand Cross, Natalia’s Celestial Bow, and Guy’s Shakunage.
