Create-A-Skater ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In THPS3 you have a much more detailed create-a-skater, allowing you to create almost any possible look or style, including females. You can set the skaters sex, age, height/weight, skin tone, accessories, and other things as well. To completely beat the game, you need to have completed all goals with one created skater, so go ahead and design at least one. 2a. Park Editor ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Use the park editor to create the skate park of your dreams. Load a pre-made park to get ideas on how levels are made. 4. Grinds ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FS/BS is determined by if your back or front is facing the rail while you grind. Controls are the same whether frontside or backside. 50-50 ------- Regular grind with no directional arrows. Links to: Nosegrind(up-triangle) 5-0(down-triangle) Nosebluntslide(up-up-triangle) Bluntslide(down-down-triangle) Nosegrind ----------- Up-Triangle Links to: Nosebluntslide(up-up-triangle) Noseslide(square-square) Overcrook(circle-circle) 5-0 ---- Down-Triangle Links to: Bluntslide(down-down-triangle) Tailslide(square-square) Feeble(circle-circle) Nosebluntslide ---------------- Up-Up-Triangle Links to: Crooked(up-down-triangle) Noseslide(square-square) Overcrook(circle-circle) Bluntslide ------------ Down-Down-Triangle Links to: Smith(down-up-triangle) Tailslide(square-square) Feeble(circle-circle) Noseslide ---------- Left-Triangle Links to: Nosebluntslide(up-up-triangle) Overcrook(circle-circle) Tailslide ---------- Right-Triangle Links to: Bluntslide(down-down-triangle) Feeble(circle-circle) Overcrook ---------- Up/Left-Triangle Links to: Nosebluntslide(up-up-triangle) Noseslide(square-square) Crooked --------- Up/Right-Triangle Links to: Nosebluntslide(up-up-triangle) Noseslide(square-square) Overcrook(circle-circle) Feeble ------- Down/Left-Triangle Links to: Bluntslide(down-down-triangle) Tailslide(square-square) Smith ------- Down/Right-Triangle Links to: Bluntslide(down-down-triangle) Tailslide(square-square) Feeble(circle-circle) Boardslide/Lipslide -------------------- Hit the rail sideways Can't be linked 4a. Hidden Combo! Chains ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To perform a hidden combo, press the controls for the next grind without jumping. All combos can be done without your special meter full, but will fill it up immediatley. If you want to have every grind in your chain, you should begin with a 50-50 and then move to a Nosegrind or 5-0. These are the only grinds that can't be looped back to. So if you don't put them in the beginning, you can't have them at all. While grinding, loop through Nosebluntslide-Crooked-Noseslide-Overcrook in any order, if you're on your nose, or Bluntslide-Smith-Tailslide- Feeble in any order, if you're on your tail. Cheap Combo: In any grind besides boardslide or 50-50 repeatedly switch between hitting circle-circle and square-square. You can rack up decent points but at the loss of style. Ex: 50-50 + Nosegrind + Nosebluntslide + Crooked + Noseslide + Overcrook + Nosebluntslide + Crooked + . . . + Ex: 50-50 + 5-0 + Bluntslide + Smith + Tailslide + Feeble + Bluntslide + Smith + . . . + 5. Flip Tricks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The controls for each trick can be set in the edit tricks menu. Listed here are the different flip tricks you can choose from. 180 Varial 360 Flip 360 Varial Front Foot Impossible FS Shove-It Fingerflip Heelflip Varial Lien Hardflip Heelflip Impossible Inward Heelflip Kickflip Ollie Airwalk Ollie North Pop Shove-It Sal Flip Varial Varial Heelflip Varial Kickflip 5a. Hidden Combos! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hidden Flip combos can be done by pressing the flip button(square) repeated times while performing a particular trick. The controls will be different depending on how you set to do the trick. Double Kickflip Triple Kickflip Double Heelflip Triple Heelflip 360 FS Shove-It 540 FS Shove-It 360 Shove-It 540 Shove-It Double Impossible Triple Impossible Quickly do a flip to a grab to pull off these combos. Kickflip to Indy Kickflip to Crail 6. Lip Tricks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Perform a lip trick by riding up to the edge of a quarterpipe straight on and pressing triangle. By pressing a directional button with triangle, you can perform various lip tricks. There are 15 regular and 8 special lip tricks you can perform. The regular lip tricks are performed with one directional button push and triangle. The special lip tricks are performed with two presses of a directional button. Edit your tricks to the trick you want and how to control it. 6a. Linking Lips ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are two ways to link lip tricks. You can perform an ollie and before coming back down enter another lip trick and you will land back on the edge in the new trick. You can also link to other tricks without using an ollie. While holding a trick(besides Inverts), press: right-right-triangle for an Axel Stall left-left-triangle for a Boneless left-right-triangle for a Disaster If you are in an Invert lip trick, press: right-right-triangle for an Invert left-left-triangle for an One Foot Invert left-right-triangle for a Gymnast Plant right-left-triangle for a Varial Invert to Fakie 7. Manuals ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Manuals are essential to keep your combo going and rack up the points. Press either up-down, or down-up to perform a manual or nose manual. You can press the controls while skating on the ground, or in the air, pulling the manual when you land. If you press either L2 or R2 while manualing, you will perform a pivot. A pivot spins your character around 180 degrees. The pivot is best used to add to your multiplyer, but also adds that extra style. 8. Flatland Tricks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Flatland tricks are special manuals you can do that add extra points to your score, but more importantly, add extra style. All characters can perform everyone else's particular flatland tricks with the exception of Demoness' Going Home. First thing you need to do is set your characters special tricks. Make sure your character has at least one special manual. Set the controls to something comfortable to you. When your special meter is full, perform your special manual. Keep an eye on your balance meter. 8a. Hidden Combos! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` You cannot combo out of all manuals so try out the one you chose. Perform the special manual with special meter full. From any special manual you can combo into a: Truckstand(right-right-triangle) To Rail(left-left-triangle) Casper(right-left-triangle) Anti-Casper(left-right-triangle) Handstand(right-right-circle) While in any of these tricks but the Anti-Casper, pressing left-square will flip the board. While in a Truckstand, performing another Truckstand will do a Truckspin. Ex: Reemo Slide + Casper(right-left-triangle) + Casper Flip(left- square) + To Rail(left-left-triangle) + Rail Flip(left-square) + Truckstand(right-right-triangle) + Truckflip(right-right-triangle) + Handstand(right-right-circle). Don't forget to throw in a few pivots for extra flair. 9. Revert ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I can't stress enough the importance of the revert/manual. I have people bragging to me online, "I am a master at Tony Hawk, all I need to do is learn how to manual." You are a master of nothing without the revert/manual. To revert press R2 or L2 as you land. This performs a quick spin. During this spin you can perform any trick to keep your combo going. Revert on nearly every landing. Even if you don't plan on continuing your combo, by using the revert, the landings are more forgiving. You can land at terrible angles and hold grabs until the second you revert, without bailing. 10. Levels ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Stat Icon locations are different depending on who you are skating with. There are three possible locations for the hidden deck. Vert skaters have a different goal than street skaters on each level. Both goals and all three possible deck locations are listed here. 10a. Foundry ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Goals: ------- Get a High Score: 10,000 Get a Pro Score: 30,000 Get a Sick Score: 60,000 Sick Score Suggestion - 60,000: This score is neither high nor hard. In the halfpipe, do a few spinning flip/grab tricks, followed by a revert/manual, and then another spinning flip/grab trick. Three of these will give you the score. Collect S-K-A-T-E: The letters vary throughout the level depending on which skater you are using. They can always be found in a logical order S through E. Get the Secret Tape: As you start the level, turn slightly right and use the lip to jump up to the catwalk. Ride the catwalk up to the glass room. Face right and line yourself up with the metal rafter in the center. Jump through the glass and grind on the rafter to reach the tape. 50-50 TC's Rail(street): Use a regular grind the whole length of the rail in the middle of the level with photographer Taylor standing next to it. Cannonball Over the Halfpipe(vert): Pause the game, go to edit tricks, grab tricks. Look at the controls for cannonball. Leap over the halfpipe while doing a cannonball. Soak the Foreman: Grind the rail behind the foreman next to the pool. Grind the Molten Bucket: Stand next to the window with the man inside at the back of the level. When the lights turn red and the alarms go off, use the quarterpipe to pick up speed, then head towards the molten bucket. Use the lip to gain air and grind on either rail on the side of the bucket. Don't aim for the center of the bucket or you'll be hurting. Un-Jam 5 Valves: Grind the 5 pipes sticking out from the wall located around the outside of the level. The lights should turn from red to blue. Plus you may find a secret. Deck Locations: ------------------------ 1: From the start check above the quarter pipe behind you and to your right. 2: From the start head down the rollin on the very left there will be a small quarter pipe in front of a bunch of lined up red canisters... launch yourself to the rail above them to nab it. 3: Skate to the back of the park where the long curved yellow rail is and the molten bucket you must grind. Below the yellow rail is a quarterpipe. Use the quarterpipe to launch yourself up to the next platform above you. The 3rd location for the deck is the rail you will grind. Secret Area: ------------- Complete the level goal of unjamming 5 valves by grinding all five of the pipes sticking out of the wall around the level. They will be lit red until you un-jam them and the light turns blue. This opens up the generator core behind the starting point. 10b. Canada ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Goals: ------------------- Get a High Score: 35,000 Get a Pro Score: 70,000 Get a Sick Score: 120,000 Sick Score Suggestion - 120,000: Grind up and down the two long rails found at the end of the parking lot, picking up the Parking Lot Mini Gap. Manual from each end of the rail up the vert and perform a spinning flip/grab trick. Revert/manual back onto the rail and repeat on the other side. With special grinds you get the sick score in two passes. Collect S-K-A-T-E: The letters vary throughout the level depending on which skater you are using. They can always be found in a logical order S through E. Get the Secret Tape: On the furthest wooden walkway behind the starting point, grind the rail next to the box with the on off switch. This will raise the halfpipe at the end of the walkway. Transfer up to the raised halfpipe and then transfer across to the higher level. Ride to the end and jump across the gap. At the top is the mine car rails. Grind the right side of the rail and you will be brought to the tape. Nosegrind Around the Horn(street): Fall into the water under the wooden bridge behind the starting point. This will place you in perfect position. Grind the rail all the way around to the left passing by photographer Taylor. Melongrab Over the Blade(vert): Pause the game, go to edit tricks, grab tricks. Look at the controls for melongrab. Transfer over the ramp you ride down at the start of the level while pulling a melongrab. Get Chuck Unstuck: Jump the fence on the left at the start of the level. Run over unlucky Chuck to free him. Bury That Bully!: Use the quarterpipe on the right side of the ramp you ride down at the beginning. Hold up and X to launch over the quarterpipe and land in the tree, giving the bully what he deserves. Impress the Skaters: There are five Canadian skaters located above the quarterpipes in the skate park to the right of the starting point. Bust a decent trick on their quarterpipe to impress them. They will disappear so you know when you have impressed which skater. Deck Locations: --------------------------- 1: From the start go forward right past Chuck. On your left hand side there is a quarterpipe with a Canadian flag above it... launch up to the flag in the center of the quarter pipe to get this deck. 2: From the start follow the fence on your right until it connects to another fence. Diagonally in the middle is a wire with a deck on it. Use the quarter pipe on the other side of the fence to launch up to it if your stats aren't high enough. 3: Turn around and launch yourself to the wooden platform from the roll in you start the level on. Jump to the next platform and turn around. Grind the wire on your left-hand side (grinding the horn) there will be a deck half way around. If you have any problems, just take a dive into the water where the bully is and you'll begin right where the Grinding the Horn objective is. Grind the wire for the deck. 10c. Rio ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Gold Medal Suggestion ----------------------- 170,000 should get you the gold medal. Grind around the rails and short walls circling around the level, picking up many gap bonuses. Holding down X will also gain you speed. The longer you hold a grab the more points you will get for it. Release your grabs as late as possible with out bailing. Throw in the finishing revert to stick the landing. Keep an eye on your balance meter. THPS2 veterans must get used to looking at the meter instead of looking at the character when they grind. You can perform Truckstands, To Rail, Casper, Anti-Casper, and Handstands without having them use up one of your special trick slots, so don't choose these as one of your special moves if you want to get the most out of your ten special trick slots. Put all your special grinds on down-up up-down combinations. Everytime you are in the air press down-up/up-down and hold triangle. You can hit a rail and pull a special, or even if you miss the rail, your combo will continue with a manual. To get higher scores, press L2 to Nollie before each trick, add a spin during each trick, manual between each trick, and skate in switch. Use a wide variety of tricks. In career mode, your first objective on each level should be the stat icons. Each one you pick up will make completing the goals easier. Use the right analog stick to look around for stat icons and decks. Revert/Manual Revert/Manual Revert! 15.
