Unlike Great Ice Hockey I will not need to use the Sports Pad which pissed me off. o---------------------o DISCLAIMER o---------------------o Slap Shot is a trademark of Sega and all copyrights belong to them. Suddenly, he cuts inside, passes to his teammates in the slot - he shoots, he scores! What a play! Get all of the hard-hitting excitement of real ice hockey with "Slap Shot"! Shooting, passing, and teamwork on offense, and lots of checking, blocking and general chaos on defense. Play an Exhibition game, or enter the Tournament and play against the top teams in the world! Watch out for the other team's goons, though - they like to fight. If you get in a brawl and come out on the losing end, you'll have 2 minutes in the penalty box to lick your wounds. Accept the challenge - take on and defeat the best in hockey. Once you start, you'll be "hooked"! o---------------------o CONTROLS o---------------------o D-pad = Move person in control, aim shots in overtime Button 1 = Start Game/Shoot the Puck/Punch during brawl/Cancel Button 2 = Start Game/Pass the Puck/Punch during brawl/Confirm o---------------------o TEAMS o---------------------o There are 24 teams total and each country is separated by three separate pools from A to C C Pool League ------------- Holland Power: B Speed: A Balance: A Yugoslavia Power: A Speed: A Balance: A China Power: A Speed: B Balance: A Hungary Power: A Speed: A Balance: A Bulgaria Power: C Speed: A Balance: B North Korea Power: A Speed: B Balance: B Korea Power: A Speed: A Balance: B Australia Power: B Speed: C Balance: B B Pool League ------------- Norway Power: A Speed: B Balance: A Italy Power: B Speed: A Balance: A France Power: A Speed: A Balance: A Switzerland Power: A Speed: A Balance: A East Germany Power: C Speed: A Balance: B Austria Power: B Speed: B Balance: B Japan Power: B Speed: A Balance: B Denmark Power: C Speed: A Balance: B A Pool League ------------- Canada Power: A Speed: A Balance: A America Power: A Speed: B Balance: A Soviet Union Power: A Speed: A Balance: A Poland Power: B Speed: A Balance: A West Germany Power: C Speed: A Balance: B Sweden Power: A Speed: C Balance: B Czechoslovakia Power: B Speed: B Balance: B Finland Power: B Speed: A Balance: B o---------------------o GAMEPLAY o---------------------o Choose a 1 or 2 player game. If you choose player 1 then you choose to have an Exhibition or a tournament before choosing the team. A 2-player game skips to the team. Each game consists of 3 20-minute periods just like in real hockey though not in real time or else the game would take forever. Whoever has the most goals at the end of regulation is the winner. If the score is tied then instead of sudden death overtime, you got to a 3-shot shootout to where the first opponent to get the most goals out of three shots each will be the winner but it'll borrow a baseball concept. If it's still tied, they keep going till one opponent wins the round of sessions. Player 1 scores and Player 2 misses, Player 1 wins. Player 1 misses and Player 2 scores, Player 2 wins. Throughout the game you will get into plenty of fights. This will bring up a bar to indicate who is winning the fight. Keep an eye on your colored glove so you can keep track of the fight. If the glove reaches the end, that person loses the fight and gets carted off. If the whistle blows before there is a winner, whoever is behind will be sent to the penalty box and you or them will be in a power play mode where the opponent will have less opponents on the court. In the tournament mode, you choose one of the eight teams in a pool and you will have yourselves and 8 team tournament with the winner moving on to the next round and the loser goes home. Whoever wins the finals will be the champion. It is a shame that all games are restricted to each respective pools. Here's an interesting scene. If you or your opponent score a goal, you'll get a cutscene of the scorer shooting a puck past the goalie whom tries to block the puck unsucessfully. Another interesting cutscene takes place during intermission that takes place between the 2nd and 3rd period. The coach will either praise you or tear into your hide depending on if you are winning or losing the game respectively going into the 3rd period. o---------------------o CREDITS o---------------------o Sega for making this game.
