Contact ============================================== 1. Introduction ============================================== Major League Eating: The Game is a game based on the "sport" of the same name. Your main objective is to stuff your face full of more food than you would think be possible and try to vomit (in-game) in the process. This guide covers every aspect of the game. All control descriptions were taken from the Operations Guide. ============================================== 2. Updates ============================================== Final Version (8/25/09) - Information on how to play as Takeru Kobayashi was added, and a few typos were fixed. Final Version (9/21/08) - Updated the Eaters section a bit. Final Version (9/15/08) - FAQ Completed ============================================== 3. Controls ============================================== Here are the Controls for the game. ///// Menus ///// A Button - Select B Button - Cancel Wii Remote Control Pad - Change what you want to select /////// In-Game /////// B Button - Chew 1/2 Buttons - Chew (if sideways) Left or Right (Up or Down if sideways) on the Wii Remote Control Pad - Active left/right power-up A Button + Shake the Wii Remote Up/Down (Left/Right if sideways) - Reduce Vomit in the Barf-O-Meter Minus Button- Pause the game ============================================== 4. Basics ============================================== How to play the game. ---------------------------------------------- 4.1 Screen Layout ---------------------------------------------- In the top-left corner of the screen in P1's mouth. In the top-middle corner of the screen are the scores of P1 (to the left) and P2/CPU (to the right). Below that is the amount of time left in the current round. In the top-right corner of the screen in P2's/the CPU's mouth. See the Mouth mini-section for more info. In the middle left part of the screen in P1's character. In the middle right part of the screen in P2's/the CPU's character. In the middle of the screen is a plate of the food you and your opponent are eating. Power-ups can be on one of the places on the plate, as illustrated below: 1 ___ / \ 2 / \ 3 ___/ \___ 1- When a power-up is in space 1, either player can grab it. 2- When a power-up is in space 2, only Player 1 can grab it (is swapped with space 3 when the power-up Lazy Susan is used). 3- When a power-up is in space 3, only Player 2 can grab it (is swapped with space 2 when the power-up Lazy Susan is used). In the left lower-middle part of the screen are P1's power-ups. Press Left (Up if sideways) on the Wii Remote Control Pad to activate the left one, and Right (Down if sideways) on the Wii Remote Control Pad to activate the right one. In the left lower-middle part of the screen are P2's/the CPU's power-ups. In the left-middle lower-middle part of the screen is P1's Barf-O-Meter. The green fluid inside the Barf-O-Meter represents Vomit. If the Vomit in your Barf-O-Meter reaches your mouth, you will suffer a Reversal of Fortune and automatically lose, regardless of score. Holding the A Button and shaking the Wii Remote Up and Down (Left and Right if sideways) reduces Vomit in the Barf-O-Meter. In the right-middle lower-middle part of the screen is P2's/the CPU's Barf-O-Meter. If you lower your Barf-O-Meter enough in one shake, your character will burp, raising filling your opponent's Barf-O-Meter with more vomit. In the bottom-left corner of the screen is the name of P1's character. In the bottom-right corner of the screen is the name of P2's/the CPU's character. The player with the most points at the end of a match wins. Once the time in a match is up, each piece of food in your mouth is counted as 1 point. In the event of a tie, the Burp Off mini-game is played to determine the winner. ---------------------------------------------- 4.2 Mouth ---------------------------------------------- There are 7 sections in each mouth, and each section can contain a piece of food. Press the B button when your pair of mini-teeth are over it to chew it. Each piece of food must be chewed two times to earn a point. Eating a piece of food completely slightly fills up the Barf-O-Meter. Some eaters can chew food more rapidly than others due to the speed of their mini-teeth. If you bite an empty section/no section, you'll bite your tongue and become stunned. ---------------------------------------------- 4.3 Mini-Games ---------------------------------------------- Occasionally, you'll see a piece of food marked with a star. After either player eats it, one of two mini-games begin. Mini-games do not decrease the current time left in a round. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& 4.31 Hot Potato &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Controls: Press the B Button on the Wii Remote and make a throwing motion towards your opponent (if holding the hot potato). Swing towards the hot potato as your opponent throws/hits it towards you to hit it back. Note: After the mini-game ends, the loser is temporarily stunned. &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& 4.32 Burp Off &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& Controls: Swing the Wii Remote Up and Down to try to out-burp your opponent. Somewhat small motions work best. Note: After the mini-game ends, the loser's Barf-O-Meter fills with more Vomit. ============================================== 5. Power-ups ============================================== This section lists the power-ups encountered throughout the game. ********************************************** Name: Mega Burp What It Looks Like on the Plate: A sideways mushroom cloud with a green background. What It Does: Stuns the opponent, fills their Barf-O-Meter with more Vomit, and lowers your Barf-O-Meter's Vomit. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Gas Attack What It Looks Like on the Plate: A Skull and Crossbones in a cloud with a yellow-green background. What It Does: Stuns the opponent and fills their Barf-O-Meter with more Vomit. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Red Hot Chili Pepper What It Looks Like on the Plate: A chili pepper with a red-orange background. What It Does: Prevents biting your tongue, stunning and Vomit rising from the Mega Burp and Gas Attack power-ups, stunning from the Red Hot Chili Pepper power-up, and losing the contents of your mouth and Vomit rising from the Bad Stuff power-up. Also reflects Burps and the Mega-Burp power-up. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Antacid What It Looks Like on the Plate: A pill with a pink background. What It Does: Lowers Vomit in your Barf-O-Meter and prevents stunning if the Red Hot Chili Pepper power-up is used against you. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Lazy Susan What It Looks Like on the Plate: Two arrows with a dark blue background. What It Does: From the Basics Section: In the middle of the screen is a plate of the food you and your opponent are eating. Tips: Use it when a power-up is on your opponent's side of the plate or the Bad Stuff power-up is on your side of the plate. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Bad Stuff What It Looks Like on the Plate: A Dark cloud with a brownish background. What It Does: Raises Vomit in your Barf-O-Meter empties your mouth. Tips: Use the Lazy Susan power-up if it ends up on your plate. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Ketch-Up What It Looks Like on the Plate: A red up arrow with a red arrow. What It Does: If your score is lower than your opponent's, changes your score to the same of that of your opponent. If your score is higher than your opponent's, nothing. ********************************************** ============================================== 6. Types of Food ============================================== There are three types of food: Toss, Typewriter, and Cram. ---------------------------------------------- 6.1 Toss Foods ---------------------------------------------- Types included: Shrimp, Jalapenos, Meatballs, and Sushi Controls for eating: Hold the Wii Remote with the Pointer pointing forward. Flick your wrist upward, keeping the Wii Remote well away from your mouth and face. Do not let go of the Wii Remote. If you move too slowly or throw too hard, you'll toss your food in a higher, slower arc. Shrimp- Favorite food of Erik "The Red" Denmark. Jalapenos- Favorite food of Richard "The Locust" LeFevre. Meatballs- Favorite food of Sonya Thomas. Sushi- Not a favorite food of any eater. ---------------------------------------------- 6.2 Typewriter Foods ---------------------------------------------- Types included: Corn on the Cob, Ribs, Chicken, and Watermelon Controls for eating: Hold the Wii Remote sideways with one hand on each end. Move your hands from side to side, like eating corn on the cob. When you've stripped the food clean, you'll pick up another piece automatically. Corn on the Cob- Favorite food of Crazy Legs Conti. Ribs- Favorite food of Juliet Lee. Chicken- Not a favorite food of any eater. Watermelon- Not a favorite food of any eater. ---------------------------------------------- 6.3 Cram Foods ---------------------------------------------- Types included: Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Pizza, and Burritos Controls for eating: Hold the Wii Remote with the Pointer pointing forward. Lower your hand to pick up a piece of food, then raise it again to put the food in your mouth. Use a controlled motion, and do not put the Wii Remote near your mouth or face. When you've finished stuffing your face, lower your hand again to pick up a new piece of food. Don't move too fast - you can only cram one thing at a time. Hot Dogs- Favorite food of Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi, and The Bear. Hamburgers- Favorite food of El Toro Jimenez. Pizza- Favorite food of Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti. Burritos- Favorite food of Tim "Eater X" Janus. ============================================== 7. Eaters ============================================== Each eater has a favorite food (eats that food faster than any other eater) and four stat categories. Each eater's favorite food and strongest stat (which is always maxed out) are represented by a symbol when selecting characters. Here are the four stats and their representation symbols. Eating Speed: The speed that an eater stuffs food into their mouths. Represented by a fork and stopwatch. Jaw Power: The speed of a player's mini-teeth set, I think. Represented by a mouth chewing... something. Barf-O-Meter: The rate that an eater's Barf-O-Meter fills up. Represented by an iron stomach. Jiggle Speed: The rate that an eater's Barf-O-Meter loses Vomit while shaking the Wii Remote Up/Down (Left/Right if sideways). Represented by a person dancing. ********************************************** Name: Crazy Legs Conti Eating Speed: Medium Jaw Power: Medium-Low Barf-O-Meter: Max (Strongest Stat) Jiggle Speed: Low Favorite Food: Corn Description: An all-around eater whose strong stomach makes him a good choice for beginners. My Opinion: Strong Stomach eaters are probably the best class. Probably the best beginner character, and one of the best overall. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Erik "The Red" Denmark Eating Speed: Max (Strongest Stat) Jaw Power: Low Barf-O-Meter: Medium Jiggle Speed: Medium-Low Favorite Food: Shrimp Description: A Berserker in battle like his viking ancestors, he accelerates quickly but his stomach is a little unstable. My Opinion: He eats fast, but that's about it. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Juliet Lee Eating Speed: Medium-Low Jaw Power: Medium Barf-O-Meter: Low Jiggle Speed: Max (Strongest Stat) Favorite Food: Ribs Description: Don't be deceived by her lady-like appearance. Juliet is and aggressive eater who overwhelms her opponents with powerful burps. My Opinion: She eats surprisingly fast and a good Jiggle Speed is always welcome. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: El Toro Jimenez Eating Speed: Low Jaw Power: Max (Strongest Stat) Barf-O-Meter: Medium-Low Jiggle Speed: Medium Favorite Food: Hamburgers Description: Some say his bark is worse than his bite, but his gas is the most dangerous of all. My Opinion: One of the worst eaters. Low eating speeds are never good, regardless of how good you are otherwise. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Tim "Eater X" Janus How to Unlock: Complete the Single Player Mode with Crazy Legs Conti. Eating Speed: Medium-Low Jaw Power: Medium Barf-O-Meter: Low Jiggle Speed: Max (Strongest Stat) Favorite Food: Burritos Description: This mysterious eater wears a mask to hide his inner torment. When he eats burritos, he unleashes that torment in an explosive mix of gas and spicy burps. My Opinion: Would be the worst eater, but El Toro wins that award. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Sonya Thomas How to Unlock: Complete the Single Player Mode with Erik "The Red" Denmark. Eating Speed: Low Jaw Power: Max (Strongest Stat) Barf-O-Meter: Medium-Low Jiggle Speed: Medium Favorite Food: Meatballs Description: Known as "The Black Widow" for her strength across the board, her strong defense makes her difficult to defeat with attacks alone. My Opinion: UGH. After much experimentation, I found that she is WORSE than El Toro Jimenez. Regardless of her stats, I think she has the worst Barf-O-Meter in the game. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Richard "The Locust" LeFevre How to Unlock: Complete the Single Player Mode with Juliet Lee. Eating Speed: Medium Jaw Power: Medium-Low Barf-O-Meter: Max (Strongest Stat) Jiggle Speed: Low Favorite Food: Jalapenos Description: An experienced eater with a durable stomach that allows him to dominate in the dangerous jalapeno contests. My Opinion: Is exactly the same as Crazy Legs Conti, but with a different look and favorite food. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti How to Unlock: Complete the Single Player Mode with El Toro Jimenez. Eating Speed: Low Jaw Power: Max (Strongest Stat) Barf-O-Meter: Medium-Low Jiggle Speed: Medium Favorite Food: Pizza Description: A hot-headed young eater with fire in his belly, he eats at a furious pace and excels in all kinds of attacks. Defense is his weakness. My Opinion: The Eating Speed stat seems lower than it should be. A decent eater. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Joey "Jaws" Chestnut How to Unlock: Complete the Single Player Mode with Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti. Eating Speed: Max (Strongest Stat) Jaw Power: Low Barf-O-Meter: Medium Jiggle Speed: Medium-Low Favorite Food: Hot Dogs Description: As of 2007, the world champion of hot dogs. Joey is a very fast eater with all-around strength. My Opinion: His worse than advertised Barf-O-Meter and Jiggle speed are a bad combination, but a monster if you can get past that. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: The Bear How to Unlock: Complete the Single Player Mode with Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti. Eating Speed: ? (Max+, can eat two pieces of food at once and in one bite) Jaw Power: ? (Strongest Stat) Barf-O-Meter: ? (Medium) Jiggle Speed: ? (Abysmal) Favorite Food: Hot Dogs Description: No Description. My Opinion: A monster eater. Seriously, I've gotten to 302 points in one round with this thing. However, it has an abysmal jiggle speed, which is definitely its weakness. Fire off multiple Mega Burps and Gas Attacks to cause a Reversal of Fortune for an auto-win against The Bear. A good strategy to use that works with all fighters, escpecially Tim Janus and Juliet Lee, though Richard LeFevre and Crazy Legs Conti have a hard time pulling it off, is to have a full mouth of food, eat food to raise YOUR vomit meter, and repeatedly fire off burps at the Bear, since beating him in a pure eating contest is next to impossible. Odd Info: - Can only be used in Versus Mode (Not online). - Hot Dogs are automatically the food in a match The Bear is used. - No mini-games occur in a match with The Bear. - A tie at the end of a match results in a win for the Bear. - The Bear cannot bite its tongue. - The Bear can eat two pieces of food in one bite, and only needs to chew food once to completely eat it and collect a point. - The Bear cannot use or collect power-ups. - The Bear cannot burp after lowering its Barf-O-Meter by a certain amount. - To lower The Bear's Barf-O-Meter, hold the A button and shake the Wii remote Right and Left. ********************************************** ********************************************** Name: Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi How to Unlock: On the Versus Mode character selection screen, have Player 1 move their cursor onto Tim Janus or Sonya Thomas and press up three times on the Wii remote control pad. After a short delay, an icon to use Takeru Kobayashi appears. You must enter this code every time you want to play as Takeru Kobayashi, and this code will not work until all other characters (including The Bear) have been unlocked. Special thanks to developer Eric Diemer for telling me how to do this. Eating Speed: Max (Strongest Stat) Jaw Power: Low Barf-O-Meter: Medium Jiggle Speed: Medium-Low Favorite Food: Hot Dogs Description: A living legend and a force to be reckoned with. You'll need to master all of your gustatory skills to defeat him. Odd Info: - Can only be used in Versus Mode (I haven't tested online). - Hot Dogs are automatically the food in a match Takeru Kobayashi is used. - Is not pernamently unlocked (must be unlocked every time you want to use him). ********************************************** ============================================== 8. Walkthrough (Single Player Mode) ============================================== How to beat the Single Player Mode. General matches are listed first, followed by the order that you face characters for each individual character. The food in every match is the favorite food of the opposing character for extra challenge. NOTE: To make your opponent have a Reversal of Fortune (vomit) to automatically win a match, hit them with 2-4 Gas/Burp attacks in a row. After a mini-game (to a larger degree, Burp Off), this is especially easy to do. DO NOT attempt if the opponent has the Invincibility power-up ready or active. ////////////////////////////////////////////// Name: Crazy Legs Conti Strategy: Not hard at all. It's unlikely you'll get him to suffer a Reversal Of Fortunate, but he's easy enough that you won't need it. Name: Erik "The Red" Denmark Strategy: Like all toss food matches, you'll probably outscore your opponent 2 to 1. Either way, it's easy to make Erik suffer a Reversal of Fortune. Name: Juliet Lee Strategy: A hard fight. It is probably a little easier to win with a Reversal of Fortune. Name: El Toro Jimenez Strategy: Brutal if encountered in match #5 or #6, easy as cake otherwise. Reversal Fortunate your way to victory. Name: Tim "Eater X" Janus Strategy: Not too hard any way you look at it. Name: Sonya Thomas Strategy: Another Toss Food match, another easy victory. VERY easy to give her a Reversal of Fortune. Name: Richard "The Locust" LeFevre Strategy: Another Toss Food match, another easy victory. It's hard to give him a Reversal of Fortune, and you don't need it. Name: Patrick "Deep Dish" Bertoletti Strategy: If you're quick, you should out-eat him. If you must, give him a Reversal of Fortune. Name: Joey "Jaws" Chestnut Strategy: Incredibly hard to out-eat, but not too hard to give a Reversal of Fortune. Name: Takeru "The Tsunami" Kobayashi Strategy: Unless you are the best gamer in existence, don't try to out-eat him. Giving him a Reversal of Fortune is surprisingly easy. ////////////////////////////////////////////// ---------------------------------------------- 8.1 Crazy Legs Conti ---------------------------------------------- Opposing Eater Order: 1. Wifi/Versus Modes ============================================== Besides the Single Player mode, there are also Versus Mode and a few nice Nintendo Wi-Fi options. ---------------------------------------------- 9.1 Versus Mode ---------------------------------------------- NOTE: Two Wii remotes must be on at the same time for the Versus Mode option to be on. In Versus Mode, you and one of you friends can have a standard 2 minute match together. Unless one of you selects The Bear or Takeru Kobayashi as your character, you can select the type of food to eat, including 3 foods not favored by any character and not found the Single Player Mode (Sushi, Chicken, and Watermelon). You can use any unlocked eater from the Single Player Mode here. This is also the only game mode where The Bear and Takeru Kobayashi are playable characters (if unlocked). ---------------------------------------------- 9.2 Nintendo Wifi Modes ---------------------------------------------- After connecting to Nintendo Wifi, there are three things you can do: Play Friend- At the top of the screen is your friend code. Here, you can add or play against friends. The Friend Code Roster has room for 64 codes. Find Match- Search for an opponent to fight online randomly. Leaderboards- See the top scores of other MLE:TG players, and see where you place. To my knowledge, you can use any character besides The Bear and Takeru Kobayashi online, even if you haven't unlocked them. I'm also going to warn you that you will rarely find a match online, since this isn't exactly the most popular game out there. ============================================== 10. FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) ============================================== Q: How do I unlock Takeru Kobayashi? A: On the Versus Mode character selection screen, have either player move their cursor onto Tim Janus or Sonya Thomas and press up on the Wii remote control pad. After a short delay, an icon to use Takeru Kobayashi appears. You must enter this code every time you want to play as Takeru Kobayashi, and this code will not work until all other characters (including The Bear) have been unlocked. Special thanks to developer Eric Diemer for telling me how to do this. Q: How do I beat The Bear when I'm playing a friend? A: You practically HAVE to get The Bear to have a Reversal of Fortune to beat it. The Bear cannot shake to reduce its vomit meter well at all. Q: How do I unlock/beat *insert fighter here*? A: Look in a fighter's section to find out how to unlock them. The walkthrough section tells you all you need to know about beating them. ============================================== 11.
