Walkthrough /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ / \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \ Some tips/bits of information: * Always loot corpses. * Always loot crates/debris even if I don't specifically say so. * Look at every nook and cranny of every place to find good items. * After Deep Roads, upgrade your equipment. Of particular value is the backpack at the Hightown merchant. It increases space by ten. * For combat, try to area of effect (aoe) the enemy as much as possible. Round them up in a group and have at it. * Use all your special abilities on cooldown. * Tanking is probably the hardest job, but it makes it so your party is safe so I suggest doing that in the game. (Ie make a warrior.) * Your party should be composed of two damage dealers, one healer, and one tank. * Save your game frequently! * Get equipment that boosts the money you get from killing enemies. ============================================================================= --[The Beginning]------------------------------------------------------------ ============= == OPENING == ============= The game starts by asking you to select your class and gender. For an easy game, it is probably best to choose the warrior class because they are somewhat the easiest to control. Also, there is a plethora (a lot) of mages and rogues in this game. In addition, if you want Isabela, Varric, and Anders in your party (a popular party because of the banter between Isabela and Varric), you will need a warrior to soak up the damage. Above all, this guide uses these characters. However, you are free to choose whatever you want: just make sure you end up with a tank, two damage dealers, and a healer in the end or you will be screwed when the going gets rough. After choosing your class and gender, two cutscenes occur along with the opening credits. When it is time to battle, be aware that this is the "tutorial" of sorts so it is hard to die. The game wants you to use your special abilities in this fight, so press X and Y to use them along with using A to attack. These foes are rather easy to kill and have low health pools. Once the fight is done, another cutscene occurs and you have dialogue options. These options appear throughout the game: you have the "good" option, the "mask" or funny option, and the "evil" or pugilistic option. There is little difference between them as far as this guide is concerned, so just choose whatever you want to do and stick with it throughout the game. (Unless, of course, it goes against supporting characters' morales that you wish to retain in the game.) More enemies arrive and you have to choose whether to deal with them or not. If this is your first time playing this game, I would choose to fight them to get your feet wet. You can use your sister as the tank as she seems to have no hit points here. Or, you can use your abilities to kill them. I recommend using them after rounding them up in mobs. A mighty ogre appears from the bottom of the slope. This fight is a little tougher than before because he has an attack that is hits anyone around him, making side-attacking him a little tough. If you use all your abilities right when they are off cooldown, though, you should have no trouble as they do a lot of damage. After wasting the ogre, another cutscene occurs and the "real" story begins. Before this, though, you need to customize your character however you see fit. I just choose the first male option myself, but it's entirely preference and has little effect on the game (besides gender, but you can't change that here). Once that is done, we have a cutscene and then you have a dialogue option. If you chose warrior, you will need to do the tanking here. You can do this with either a sword and shield or two-hander as this part is pretty easy. If you chose mage or rogue, your brother does the tanking. Either way, go down the path and pick up the sword and shield off the corpse. Equip it on the tank by going to the "inventory" section of the menu. Right before you can pick up the other loot (it is the glittering pile ahead of you), more enemies decide to fight. Make sure to go to your rear first and kill the enemies near your mage. Your brother can temporarily fend off the horde in front of you. After dealing with them, take the loot from the corpse and go to the start menu. Hold up and press A to level up your character. There are a number of options you can choose. For mages, choose a spell in the tree you desire. For rogues, choose an attack. For warriors, choose an attack. You need to stick with your first tree, though, so make sure you choose wisely. Tanks should choose the weapon and shield tree. Follow the path to another cutscene. Kill this mob with special abilities, then watch the cutscene of the other party. It seems they need help, so aid them with attacks. After the fight, you have another cutscene. The speech option here affects your reputation with some characters of the party, so choose wisely. Go to the start menu and level up your characters. Now, continue down the path until you reach enemies again. I suggest first taking care of the rear, then killing the archers and finally the swordsman. Once that is done, loot all the corpses and continue on your merry way. (Save the game!) You meet more foes a little more down the path. Kill the mage first, then the archers, then the enemies behind you, and finally the spawning enemies in front. After the fight, level up your characters and proceed to the arrow. An ogre appears - after the cutscene it is time to fight it. Aveline will be the one tanking this ogre. Focus on just the ogre as the darkspawn will just keep respawning. Use your special attacks once their cooldown is up. After the fight, choose two dialogue options (the good, bad, and the funny) then it's time to fight more darkspawn. Once a few are defeated, we have another cutscene and a ton of dialogue options. Stick with whatever you first chose or mix and match. Either way, you end up in Kirkwall. ========================= == KIRKWALL BEGINNINGS == ========================= After the dialogue, level up Bethany in the start menu. Now, walk up to the gate and converse with the head guard. Choose to ask to talk to the leader, then traverse through the outside of Kirkwall to him. Whatever dialogue options you choose, it ends with talking about your Uncle and then a fight. For the battle, take out the rogue archers on the perimeter first. Aveline can tank the leader. Now, kill the leader and then the spawning rogues on the perimeter. In the next cutscene, you meet your uncle. It seems he does not have the means to get you inside the city, either. You will need to do some freelance work to get in. There are two options: Meeran and Athenril. I chose Meeran for this guide, but I will outline the work with Athenril as I did the smuggler my first playthrough. For the smuggler, go to the marker and talk/kill the guards. Additionally, Aveline will like you more if you let her talk to them. For Meeran, go to him on the marker and converse with him. Say you'll do what he needs. Go to Friedrich. He tries to make a proposal to you. If you accept it, you will need to work for Athenril additionally so just don't do it and kill him. For the fight, attack Friedrich's men first, then take out the spawning men on the perimeters, and finally Friedrich. Loot his corpse and return to Meeran. After talking to him, talk to Gamlen for another cutscene, then another, then another, then another, then it's city time. ============== == KIRKWALL == ============== After numerous cutscenes and dialogue options, Varric will join your party. Go south and enter Viscount Keep. =================== == VISCOUNT KEEP == =================== Go to the marker and talk to Aveline. Accept anything she says and accept the quest to get her in your party. This is crucial if you don't have a tank. You can do the quest "Long Way Home" a little later in the game. Exit the area and choose Lowtown as your next destination ============= == LOWTOWN == ============= Talk to Lady Elegant, then follow the arrow on the map to Gamlen's house. Here, read the letter on the desk from Meeran. Now, exit the house and go back to Lowtown. Go south down the road and enter the Hanged Man. ==================== == THE HANGED MAN == ==================== Talk to your companion Varric. After dialogue options and cutscenes, you find out you can get the maps from a grey warden in the area. Leave this cantina and enter Lowtown again. ============================================================================= --[Tranquility]-------------------------------------------------------------- ============= == LOWTOWN == ============= Go to the northern arrow to reach Lirene's place. =============================== == LIRENE'S FERELDAN IMPORTS == =============================== Talk to Lirene and say you are looking for someone. Continue talking until you get the skinny on Anders. Exit the shop. ============= == LOWTOWN == ============= Go south a little and you'll meet a mob. No matter how you answer, it ends in a fight. After killing them, leave the area and head to Darktown. ============== == DARKTOWN == ============== Loot the rubble and go up the stairs. Turn left twice and go north until you reach a door. Open it to find the warden. Select that you want the maps, then do whatever dialogue options you want. It seems like we have to see his friend at night at the chantry. Exit the area and go to Hightown at night. ======================= == HIGHTTOWN (NIGHT) == ======================= Go north and left up the stairs to meet Anders. Say you are ready to begin the task and you will automatically be taken to the chantry. ===================== == CHANTRY (NIGHT) == ===================== Go west and then north up the stairs. Go to the golden arrow to find Anders' friend Karl. After the dialogue, it's time for a fight against the templars. In this fight, take out the archers while Aveline tanks the swordsmen, then take out the swordsmen. Return to Karl and you'll have more dialogue options. You can choose to suggest to kill him or not. After the fight, you will return to Darktown. Answer the dialogue however you wish (I stay nice so he can join, but he might join anyway) and then pick your party. Leave Darktown. This quest solves the map problem. Go back to the Hanged Man. ============================================================================= --[Fools Rush In]------------------------------------------------------------ ======================= == HANGED MAN (DAY) == ======================= After the cutscene in which you meet Isabela, go up and talk to her. It seems she needs something done with a little help from you. Agree to help her (if you do not, you do not get her as a character) and go to Hightown at night. ====================== == HIGHTOWN (NIGHT) == ====================== Go southeast until you reach Isabela. Before you can talk to her, though, a fight with a band of thugs breaks out. For this battle, be sure to take out the rogues first. Now that the coast is clear, talk to Isabela to trigger another fight sequence. For this fight, don't even worry about Isabela (she has infinite health) and just fight the other foes while she tanks (and takes) one down on her own. After the battle, collect the letter from the corpse and then talk to Isabela again. Follow her to another batch of foes. After defeating them, follow Isabela to the chantry door. ===================== == CHANTRY (NIGHT) == ===================== Inside, a conversation ensues and you must fight. For this battle, focus on the main guy and ignore all of his friends. They just keep respawning otherwise. After the fight, Isabela decides to join up with you. ============================================================================= --[Enemies Among Us]--------------------------------------------------------- ==================== == HIGHTOWN (DAY) == ==================== Talk to Macha and agree to help her. Exit to the Kirkwall map and choose to go to the Gallows. =================== == GALLOWS (DAY) == =================== Talk to the three templars to your right. Say that you want to help and continue the dialogue until you find out about Wilmond. Leave to the map and select Wilmond's Camp. ===================== == WILDMOND'S CAMP == ===================== Take either trail to Wilmond's Camp. After the cutscene, it's time to fight. Take them out however you like, then talk to the templar. Once this is done, go to Hightown at night. ====================== == HIGHTOWN (NIGHT) == ====================== Follow the arrow marker on the map to the Blooming Rose. =========================== == BLOOMING ROSE (NIGHT) == =========================== Run forward and talk to Viveka. Ask her about the templars. Say that it is a templar investigation. Continue the conversation until the end, then go to Idunna in her room. It would be wise to have a mage in your party right about now - I always have at least one, so I don't know what happens if you do not have one. Anyway, talk to Idunna. Ask her about the templars, then she will do a jedi mind trick on you. Get your mage to stop her, then get her to fess up. You have the option to kill her or not here; if you want Isabela/Anders relationship points, kill her. Leave and go to Darktown. ====================== == DARKTOWN (NIGHT) == ====================== Go to the golden marker on the map. It is just a little ways south. Enter the sanctuary here. Go a little south, avoiding the trap at the bottom of the stairs, and fight the shades here. Once they are defeat, continue along, collecting items along the way, until you reach more enemies. Defeat these spawns of the blood mages. Continue walking the linear path. After killing more enemies that spawn along the way, walk until you reach a corner. There is trap right in the middle of this path, so walk the sides to walk around it. Now, walk down the stairs and over to the frozen templar. After dialogue, a fight ensues. Take down the blood mage and avoid attacking her spawns; they will just keep coming if I recall correctly. Once she is defeated, talk to the frozen templar. Talk with him any way you like, then go back to Cullen in the Gallows. Tell him the job is done, then you can decide whether to back up the saved templar or have him removed from duty. ============================================================================= --[Long Way Home]------------------------------------------------------------ Go to Sundermount on the province map. Press the right trigger until you get to the picture of a mountain, then press A at Sundermount. ================= == SUNDERMOUNT == ================= Go west until you reach a bunch of spiders. Kill them - they are pretty easy, just hack n' slash or cast spells. Continue west until you reach two Dalish guards. Talk to them to get into the camp. After talking to the Keeper, go to the yellow marker on the map to meet Merrill. Select whatever you wish in the conversation, then continue north up the mountain. You will encounter enemies after only a little ways; dispatch of them and continue following the path. At the next corner, you encounter more enemies. Take out the archer rogues first, then focus on the others. Aveline will do the tanking of the swordsmen. Soon you will reach a Dalish hunter. Talk to him however you wish. After, continue along the linear path until you reach a cave. Before you can enter, you have a dialogue option with Merrill. After that, you enter the cave. Just a little ways in, you will encounter spiders. Take out the big one first and then the small ones. Continue along, looting the silverite and looking at the codex material, until you reach more spiders. Here, take out the corrupted ones first. You don't need to worry about Merrill, so just have her tank a spider all on her own. After the fight, go south and you encounter the undead. Once they are disposed of, switch to your rogue and open the chest for a random weapon/random armor. Equip it. Go back north and enter through the opening to reach the mountain graveyard. Here, walk up to the barrier. After the conversation, go down the path to the altar. Before you can use it, undead decide to pop up. Kill the horror first (the big guy that spawns them), then kill all his friends. Press A at the altar to start a cutscene. Flemeth! After the dialogue, it's time to return to the Keeper. Do not continue in the graveyard unless you want to fight hard battles. Go back the way you came to return to camp. After dialogue, Merrill officially joins your party back at Kirkwall. You can talk to her by going to her house if you want to keep her later in the game. After that, talk to the guard and lady behind you to start "Wayward Son." ============================================================================= --[Wayward Son]-------------------------------------------------------------- =================== == LOWTOWN (DAY) == =================== Go to Vincento who is in Lowtown and denoted by the yellow marker on the map (the one with the arrow when you are far away). Talk to him about his boy to learn a little about who you need to find. Now go to the gallows. =================== == GALLOWS (DAY) == =================== Thrask is right in front of you. Talk to him to about the boy. After, exit and go to Lowtown at night ===================== == LOWTOWN (NIGHT) == ===================== Up the stairs, you will encounter a batch of highwaymen. Take out the archer rogues first and then the warriors. Follow the linear path to the yellow marker on the map to meet Samson. You will find out that the boy is to be at the docks at night. Leave the arrow and go to the docks. =================== == DOCKS (NIGHT) == =================== Go down the steps to meet some thugs. Take them out, then go left and follow the road to Arthuris's Private Dock. In here, kill the sailors then go to the right and down the dock to loot the crate. Back at the entrance, disarm the trap in the middle of the room then go up the steps. Head straight, through the archway, and open the lone door in this room. After the cutscene, kill all the enemies (the undead and the men) and then loot the corpses for various letters. It seems we need to talk to Danzig in Darktown now. Before doing so, disarm the traps in this room for experience. ============================= == DARKTOWN (DAY OR NIGHT) == ============================= Go to the big marker on the map. You will encounter some thugs along the way; waste them and keep going. Soon you will meet Danzig. Choose the options for the boy and he will fight you. This battle is pretty easy. Take out Danzig first (he's a mage) and then work on his troops. Another wave shows up so be sure to cover your flanks. After the fight, loot Danzig's body and also Sister Plinth's remains near a pillar. Exit the area and head for the Wounded Coast. =================== == WOUNDED COAST == =================== Take the right path to find some men fighting spiders. This is only if you didn't encounter them on the "Long Way Home" quest - if you did, then you already have this quest. Accept the quest - we will do "Blackwater Promise" after this quest. Exit the area and return right back to the Wounded Coast. Same place, different area. Take the southern path when you meet some Tal- Vashoth. After wasting them, head down the path a little more to meet some elves. Talk to them - if you wish to get good relationship points with Isabela, say "Do what you will." If you chose to stand up for him, you will have to fight the assassins and you will lose points with Isabela. Continue along the path and at the T-fork, go south. Soon you will reach the Slave Caves; enter. Grab the splindeweed and head east until you come across slavers. Take out the mages and archers first. Now go north into the little half-wooden house and collect the items from the chest and crate. Follow the wooden walkway through a door to the yellow marker. At the slavers, you have the option to pay the slaver or to fight. I always choose to fight because you need the sovereigns. The fight isn't very tough; kill the leader first and then focus on the mages. After the fight, the boy will be up in arms about what you said before the fight. Who really cares - just say what you want. If you say "do what you wish," you will gain points with Isabela and Anders while losing points with Aveline. Afterwards, collect the loot from the corpses and go back to the Wounded Coast. You can do Blackpowder in this area now if you like, but to keep things simple and separate we will finish "Wayward Son" first. Go back to Lowtown during the day and follow the golden marker to the mother. Talk to her to complete the quest. ============================================================================= --[An Errant Letter]--------------------------------------------------------- =================== == GALLOWS (DAY) == =================== While we are on the same subject, you can complete a small sidequest by going to the Gallows and talking to Thrask. When you are talking to him, you have the option to keep things quiet about his daughter or get some coin from him. I always choose the latter because you need the money. You will, however, incur negative relationship points with both Aveline and Anders. ============================================================================= --[Blackpowder Promise]------------------------------------------------------ =================== == WOUNDED COAST == =================== Head back to the Wounded Coast. Take the northern of the two paths and collect all the loot along the way. Soon you will reach the same T junction as in "Wayward Son." Choose to go west this time instead of south. Follow the linear path until you reach a Tal-Vashoth who is not like the others. Talk to him any way you like, then continue north until you reach your first batch of Tal-Vashoth. Kill the archers first and then the warriors. Continue along until you reach another batch of them. Boy, these things breed like rabbits, am I right? Kill them (be sure to watch your back here as some spawn behind you) and continue following the golden arrow to the cave entrance. Before you can enter, though, a third batch of Tal-Vashoth needs to be taken care of. Inside the cave, follow the linear path south opening doors along the way until you reach a large area with enemies. Kill them (there won't be anyone at your back this time) and continue going south when you reach more enemies. Kill the archers first and keep any enemies off your damage dealers/healers. Go north in this four-way junction and follow the small path to reach a chest and a resource. Back at the junction, go south this time and follow the path to the golden arrow on the map. Soon you will reach the leaders of this band of renegades. This is a big fight. I recommend taking out everyone but the leaders first. Start with the rogues and mages and then go with the warriors. Make sure to keep them off your damage dealers/healers. After they are toast, kill the leaders and loot their corpses to complete this part of the quest. Leave via the southwest exit. Head to the docks. ================= == DOCKS (DAY) == ================= Go south a little and then east to reach the Tal-Vashoth compound. Isabela decides to drop out for a little bit if she is in your party. Talk to Javaris to initiate negotiations. It seems the leader is not impressed and there was not really a deal to begin with! Tell the leader that you sought payment, and you will be rewarded for your efforts. ============================================================================= --[Shepherding Wolves]------------------------------------------------------- ===================== == LOWTOWN (NIGHT) == ===================== After arriving here, go west and then south to reach Petrice. It seems as though she *wants* to die. Follow her to the thugs that attack her and kill the thugs. Initiate conversation with Petrice and agree to go to her Safehouse. Now go north a little and at the T junction go left. Continue north to Petrice's Safehouse. Agree to take on the quest and take the trapdoor to the undercity warrens. Go a little ways west and you will meet some unfriendly spiders. Kill them and go up the stairs. Here, you meet more spiders. Continue along to reach even more spiders. After killing them, follow the linear path until even more come. See a pattern? Kill them and loot the chest for an armor upgrade. Continue along until you reach some humans that initiate conversation with you. There is nothing you can say to stop the fight. After killing them, another batch spawns behind you. Kill them then exit the warrens. Outside, you encounter Qunari. Refuse to allow them to kill your Qunari, then fight them to the death. Use AOE (area of effect) to kill them quickly. After the first of them go down, another batch decides to spawn so watch your back. With the Qunari dead, the Qunari you escorted will try to go back. Accept that and he will give you a necklace for saving him. Equip this necklace on a mage. Go back to Petrice in Lowtown during the night. You will first have to deal with an obligatory band of thugs. When you reach the safehouse, choose whatever dialogue options you want and you will get paid seven sovereigns. ============================================================================= --[Act of Mercy]------------------------------------------------------------- Go to Gamlen's house and check the letters on the desk to find this quest. It is "Acts of Mercy." Head out, press RT to get to the mountain map, and go to Wounded Coast Approach. ============================ == WOUNDED COAST APPROACH == ============================ Head east a little and you will be attacked by dragonlings. These guys are pretty easy and there aren't many. Keep going east again to fight more of them. At the four way intersection, go south to reach Thrask by a cave. Agree to help him with the mages. Inside the cave, after going just a little bit west you will encounter a mage that spawns the undead. This battle is really easy: kill the mage and then the undead. Continue along the linear cave until you reach some more undead with no mage. Deal with them, then go off the beaten path a little to loot the corpse. Continue south to find a friendly mage with a bunch of undead. Kill the undead and talk with the mage. You can ask him to turn himself in or let him run. Either way, head south down the cave and you will reach the blood mage himself. For this fight, you need to take out the mages and archers first. This is pivotal to your success. Aveline will probably take up the tanking, so just run around killing all the damage dealers. Once that is complete, focus on the leader until he is down for the count. In the conversation with the remaining apostates, you can choose whatever you wish. However, helping them gives you an actual reward. Also, be aware that it will affect reputation if you won't help them. Aveline will like you more, but Isabel and Anders will like you less. In the opposite side of the spectrum, if you choose to help the apostates, Isabel and Anders will moderately like you more, while Aveline will like you less. Whatever you choose, leave the cave. If you chose to help them, you will have to fight templars on your way out. Two batches of them to be exact. Kill the rogues and mages first as always. When you exit, you will encounter Thrask talking to the templars. A fight ensues with no dialogue option. Finally, some difference! Focus on the archers while Aveline tanks the leader. When you are done with the archers, I'm pretty sure your party will have killed everyone else. You will automatically talk to Thrask. Choose whichever option, then loot the corpses and leave. This concludes the main story quests, but I highly advise you do the side quests because they will be lost forever after the expedition. They are optional, though, and you should have around fifty sovereigns by now anyway. Still, though, you need the experience points and the game is just too short without them. So, they will be listed here in the guide. Here are the quests: ============================================================================= --[Finder's Keepers]--------------------------------------------------------- ================ == HANGED MAN == ================ Go to the Hanged Man with Isabela in your party and talk to her. Agree to help out her friend Martin. This quest will net you major friendship reputation points with the bodacious Christina Hendricks look-a-like. So, to answer all the "how do I get in a romance with Isabela?" questions, you can get a good start here. Anyway, go to the back of the Hanged Man where there are rooms. At the golden marker, you will find Martin. Agree to help him and you will gain reputation with Isabela and Aveline. Now go back to the map and choose the docks. ================= == DOCKS (DAY) == ================= Head south to the marker. Talk to the man about the cargo. He will say you need to talk to harbor master. Go to him (he's the golden marker on the map) and you will have to talk to his assistant. He won't give up information without gold, it seems. DO NOT give him any gold; leave the conversation and Isabela will suggest sneaking in at nightfall to look at the records. Go back out and select the nighttime docks. =================== == DOCKS (NIGHT) == =================== Go back to the quartermaster's "office" (it's the same place you were at before) and check the desk to figure out you need to go to a supply house to the east. Head to the most eastern part of the map to reach Woodrow's Warehouse. Inside, go through the doors until you reach a large area with docks outside. Before going down the stairs, disarm the traps at the bottom. Go down a little more and enemies spawn so kill them by taking out the archers first. After, go to the crate at the far south part of the map and take the loot. This will give you all you need for the quest. On the way out, you need to kill another batch of foes but the caravan is pretty small. Outside of the warehouse, take the nearest exit to reach the map. Go to the Hanged Man and talk to Martin. Tell him where the supplies are to finish the quest. You will receive two sovereigns and +10 Isabel reputation for your troubles. Not bad for just a little work! ============================================================================= --[The Way It Should Be]----------------------------------------------------- You picked up this quest in the very beginning of Kirkwall by getting Aveline back in your party. This is the quest now; it is only a side quest, so it is located here instead of in the mandatory part of the walkthrough. Go the map and to the mountain and select Sundermount Ambush Site. ============================= == SUNDERMOUNT AMBUSH SITE == ============================= Go west a little and then south. Some guys will attack you; kill them then continue going south. Another band of brothers attacks at the bend, and they have four spawns, so take them out wisely. Continue along the linear path until you reach a four-way intersection. Here, some more raiders attack. Kill the archers first. Now take the southwest path to reach your target. Waste the raiders, being aware of all the traps, and another cutscene occurs. After, leave via the west exit. Back at Viscount's Keep, go to the golden marker. Press A at the door and then a cutscene occurs. After, go to the duty roster and we have another cutscene. ===================== == LOWTOWN (NIGHT) == ===================== After this, go to Lowtown during the night. Head to the golden marker to find the guardsman. As soon as you arrive, everyone will turn on him. Kill everyone here; focus on everyone but the leader and then take out the leader. Once this is done, another cutscene occurs. Leave this area and return to Viscount Keep. After the cutscene, move in and out of the office to trigger another. It seems Varric wants ownership of the Hanged Man (LOL). You can romance Aveline here if you like. ============================================================================= --[Birthright]--------------------------------------------------------------- ==================== == GAMLEN'S HOUSE == ==================== Talk to the mother to start this quest. It doesn't matter what you say. Now talk to Bethany. She wants to break in and get the will. Sounds like fun! Exit, form a party, then head for darktown at night. ====================== == DARKTOWN (NIGHT) == ====================== Make a U turn around to the yellow arrow on your map to reach the cellar. ============ == CELLAR == ============ Walk north and you will encounter some enemies. After defeating them (it's a really really really small group), take the north stairs to a room with more enemies. These guys are a little tougher, but not hard to deal with. Go south of here and loot the chest for another small quest. Now go back to the room with the enemies. Take the western hallway to a room with more guards. Kill them, then go west to an even bigger room. In this room, there are traps lined up from end to end in the center of the room going the horizontal. Disarm the traps then take care of the enemies. Go up the stairs, open the vault door, and loot the two chests. Go back to Gamlen's house to complete the quest. After finishing the quest, you can talk to Bethany twice and raise her reputation with you by selecting the top option at all times. This will also complete "Portrait of the Past." ============================================================================= --[The First Sacrifice]------------------------------------------------------ Hightown > NPC Ghyslan > Blooming Rose > NPC Jethann > Darktown > NPC Emeric > Lowtown > Dark Foundry > Search corpses for the ring > NPC Ghyslan That is the order of operation for this quest. Not much else to say, just go to those places in that order and kill any enemies. Ie, go to the golden marker. Sorry for my laziness but I do not like to do this quest as it hurts my reputation with Queen Isabela. ============================================================================= --[Grimoire of the Apprentice]----------------------------------------------- Go to Lowtown and talk to Bonwald. He will give you fifty silver pieces for it and this small delivery quest is completed. ============================================================================= --[The Remains of Sister Plinth]--------------------------------------------- In the chantry, go to the golden marker to find Brother Plinth. Give him the package to complete the quest. ============================================================================= --[The Unbidden Rescue]------------------------------------------------------ You might have stumbled upon this quest by accident already. Talk to Senchal in Viscount Keep to start the quest, then go to the Wounded Coast. Here, go to the golden marker and kill the enemies. Focus on the rogues and mages first, then kill the leader. After, talk to the Samus to complete the quest. Choose to end it whichever way you desire. ============================================================================= --[Bait and Switch]---------------------------------------------------------- Read the letter "Bait and Switch" then go to Lowtown during the night. ===================== == LOWTOWN (NIGHT) == ===================== Go to the golden marker to find Anso. Agree to help him and then follow the golden arrow to Elven Alienage. Kill the enemies (they are all rogues so they go down quick) then enter the abandoned house. ===================== == ABANDONED HOUSE == ===================== Switch to your rogue and disarm the traps by the door. Now, go inside and kill all the enemies with your best aoe attacks. Just chain them together. Another group of them comes from the door outside after you defeat the first bunch, so take care of them as well. After, you find out the chest is empty. Go back to Lowtown. ===================== == LOWTOWN (NIGHT) == ===================== Outside, you encounter Tevinter hunters. This is a big group, but your aoe should take them out easily as well. Focus on the rogues first, then go after the warriors. Another group spawns; kill the mages first. Now try to leave the area when you meet Fenris. It seems as though this was all a set up for something. Anyway, leave the area and go to Hightown during the night. ====================== == HIGHTOWN (NIGHT) == ====================== Make your way through hightown to Fenris. The journey is rather uneventful with no fights. When you reach him, you will need to a form a party with him in it. ====================== == DANARIUS's MANOR == ====================== Open the door but before you go in disarm the traps. Inside this room, defeat the two waves of shades. Just aoe right where they spawn. In the next room, take the northern door. This big room hosts a lot of enemies, so be careful. Kill the Raging Demon first, then all the others. Take the northern door, then the northern door again. Defeat the lone shade and after loot the chest. Back in the previous room, choose the eastern door. In this room, kill all the enemies and loot their corpses for the key to the room. Go back to the really big room and open the center door up the eastern stairs. A lot of enemies decide to come out and play from behind you, so get them in a narrow place like the stairway and kill them all. Go back to the room and loot it entirely. Leave the manor to complete the quest. ============================================================================= --[Magister's Orders]-------------------------------------------------------- Head to hightown during the day and talk to the Magistrate. Go to the mountain map and the location marked for the quest. Head down the linear path to the cave. Inside, kill all the spawns, going from area to area, until you reach the killer. To gain points with Isabel, choose to kill him. For Aveline (if I recall correctly), don't kill him and let the guards decide his fate. ***************************************************************************** ============================================================================= --[The Deep Roads Expedition]------------------------------------------------ Go to Hightown during the day _WITH VARRIC_ and talk to his brother Bartrand. Make sure to equip Varric accordingly and also level him up; he will be in your party for this entire quest so get used to fighting with him if you have not before. Talk to his brother Bartrand. It doesn't matter what option you choose first, but tell him you have the coin and that you have the maps. This will excite him a little. Now tell him you are ready. Beware, though: you will lose any side quests to did not complete/have not done if you continue. I suggest finishing all the side quests first, and that's why they are in the walkthrough. Tell him you are ready to go. After the speech (and the response by you), your mother shows up. It seems she wants one child to stay. Unless Bethany or Carver is apart of your core group since day one, I would just let him/her stay here. After that, we have a few cutscenes. ==================== == THE DEEP ROADS == ==================== After the dialogue, choose to help the dwarf find his son. Now walk east into the deep roads and follow the path a ways until you meet some darkspawn. They are easily disposed of because of their small health pools. Continue along the path until you come to a T junction. More darkspawn arrive now. Kill the mage first, then the others. Go south down the steps into a long rectangular area. Kill the spiders and try to go to the door to the west. A big spider comes out and plays now. This is like a miniboss, only a little tougher. Keep everyone healed up and use your best attacks. Make sure the spider is attacking your tank or else the person the spider is attacking will die quickly. After the fight, loot the spiders and open the door to receive the good loot. Go back to the T junction and head east. Go north when you can and you will encounter more easily-to-kill darkspawn. Afterwards, go north to meet Sandal. He will give you the rune of frost. Head east of here, up the steps, and go north up the road. Soon you will encounter a batch of darkspawn. There are three or four waves here that each spawn behind you after you kill one, so be ready with the aoe. After the fights, continue north and then west down the stairs. Going west, you encounter more darkspawn. Only two waves here, so it shouldn't be too hard. Continuing west, go up the sets of stairs and open the door to reach an ogre. If you run out of the way as he charges as you, he will run right into the wall and get stuck. Quickly take him down in this vulnerable state and you shouldn't even get hit once in the battle. Follow the road until the game autosaves. Equip your best fire resistant armor and continue until you reach a dragon. Let your tank do the work as you fire away at him with spells or attack him with your blade. He will call for aid and dragonlings will arrive, but continue focusing on the dragon and healing as necessary until he is down. After the fight, loot the dragon and go up the stairs to reach more cutscenes. Go north to Bartrand and after speaking to him continue to Bodahn. He is happy to have his son back. Get whatever items you need from his stores, then continue. After a small cutscene, follow the road when you reach some shades. Once they are disposed of, a golem decides to come out and play. For this fight, use your best attacks. Grab the chest (no, not _that_ chest) and then continue to the door. ==================== == PRIMEVAL THAIG == ==================== Open the door and go up the steps to the idol. After the cutscene in which you become screwed, open the lone door on the other side of the podium and go south to the T junction. Head east through the door to a fight with a ton of shades and one golem. Beware of the spawning golems right outside the door. On my playthrough they almost got Varric before I came to the rescue. After they are defeated, open all the chests for the somewhat mediocre (at least in both my playthroughs) rewards. Back at the T junction, go west this time and follow the road to two sets of steps on either side of you. Shades will spawn here so be sure to attack them two-on-two instead of three-on-one. The fight is not over as some wraiths spawn on the other side of the room. These wraiths are more difficult than the shades, but aoe attacks should bring them down fast. After the battle, go south to meet more shades and profanes. There are three waves and they all spawn behind you so be careful. Once the fight is over, follow the hall to even more enemies. For this fight, aoe the shades right in front of you, then take out the profanes that are behind them. After the battle, a mega-profane talks to you. Answer him however you like until the accept/decline/fight option. Choose to fight it because you will have to anyway a little later. In this battle, kill the abmonination first, then focus on all the shades and profanes. This fight is pretty long but not very difficult if the warriors and not the damage dealers/healer tank. After the fight, loot the chest and continue east. After the door, you will encounter shades and profanes in the long rock hall. Kill the shades first and then the profanes. After the initial spawn, more shades and profanes spawn behind you. Take care of them, then put your best armor on and continue east. This is a fight against an ancient rock wraith. This is by far the hardest battle you've had in this game. For this fight, bash away at the ancient until it goes to the center of the room. When it starts to levitate, that means it is going to aoe the whole area. Quickly get behind the pillars to avoid the attack. Now the ancient will seemingly be nuked out and just lie in pebbles on the ground while his minions attack you. Kill all the minions, then work on the ancient. Repeat this process until the battle is over. The ancient was protecting quiet some supply of gold! Loot all the chests, then use the key at the door. This ends the Deep Roads Expedition. ***************************************************************************** ============== == KIRKWALL == ============== Back at Kirkwall, you can answer the Bartrand question however you like. Back at home, Carver/Bethany gets taken away and you have a cutscene where you are basically ordered to talk to the Qunari. Leave the keep. Outside, you meet Bodahn who gives you fifty sovereigns, your share of what was found on your adventure to deep roads. So you spent fifty sovereigns to get fifty sovereigns? What a ripoff! Now is the time to talk to everyone (they are where they always have been) and improve relationships with them. It is really simple: just choose the top option while speaking to them. Anyway, once that's done, go to the party selection terminal and select your party. Then go to the Hawke Estate. After a few cutscenes, Aveline has a job for you to do. ============================================================================= --[Prime Suspects]----------------------------------------------------------- Go to the Gallows and talk to Emeric. After the dialogue, it's time to go Hightown at night. When you get there, head to the Dupuis Estate. It's beside the Chantry courtyard. Inside, try to go up the stairs when you are ambushed by shades. Defeat them with ease. Open the eastern door up the stairs and inside this room kill more shades. Look at the letter on the table. Now, take the eastern door and the next door and go up the stairs. Open the only available door to reach a cutscene. You can choose to believe Gascard or not believe him. I chose to not believe him; a fight will ensue. For this battle, focus on Gascard. Once he's down, he will disappear and you will be left with fighting the demons. After this, go from room to room fighting demons. For one room, you should kill the desire demon first. Soon you will reach Gascard. Focus on him again and you will finally kill him. Exit the Estate and return to the Gallows. Talk to Moira now. It seems you are to meet Emeric at night. Go to the map and choose the Blind Alley during the night. Here, you will encounter three batches of shades. After, Moira will come. Tell her that you killed Gascard and the quest will end. ============================================================================= --[Blackpowder Courtesy]----------------------------------------------------- Go to the Docks and pick up the quest "Lost Patrol" outside the compound. Now inside the compound, talk to Arishok. Agree to help, well, everyone and accept the quest. Now go to Darktown. Follow the golden arrow to Coterie Barker. After telling her finding Javaris is important, go southeast to Smuggler's Cut. Here, go north and then west. You will be ambushed by some mercenaries. There are a few waves and they spawn from behind to so be careful. After, take the northern path to reach more thugs. This time they respawn three times. Just round them up and use your best aoe on them. Head north and follow the narrow passageway to a lone archer. If you go just a little more, you will find he is actually accompanied by an armada of men. After killing them, loot the chest for A Ship in a Bottle for Isabela. Now go up the stairs to the Wilderness. Out here, you are immediately attacked by mercenaries. They aren't very difficult if you have a tank, two damage dealers, and a healer. After the fight, you can either kill Javaris or keep him alive. I chose to kill him. Leave this area and go to the side alley at day. You will be in poison gas throughout all the fights. It doesn't make much of a difference health-wise unless your characters have really low health. Anyway, fight off the bad guys and then get a steel latch off the ground. It has the marker over it on the map. After sealing off one barrel, more baddies arrive. Kill them and get another steel latch. Repeat this process four or five times and then return to the entrance to find the elf also responsible for this mess. Choose the dialogue options that she is crazy because, well, she is. For this fight, kill all the archers first and then focus on the fanatic elf. She isn't very tough, but be sure to loot her great two-hander after the fight is over. Leave this area and return to the Arishok at the docks. After a very long dialogue (a whole speech), it's time to return to the Viscount. Once there, talk to the Viscount to complete the quest and start the quest "Offered and Lost." ============================================================================= --[Offered and Lost]--------------------------------------------------------- You should have acquire this quest after the deep roads expedition. If not, go see the Viscount. Once this is done, head to Seneschal who is in the area just south of the Viscount. Basically, you need to go to the Hanged Man at night now. Once you are there, talk to Oswald. No matter what dialogue option you choose, a fight breaks out. Just focus on Oswald as this is a really small group of guardsmen. After the fight, you interrogate Oswald. Do this however you like. Now go to the Chantry. Talk to the "old friend" to find out we need to go to Ser Varnell's refuge. Head to there from the map screen. Follow the linear path up the stairs and passed the hall to the rally. After the cutscene, choose whatever dialoguu option you want. It doesn't matter which because either way a fight breaks out. For this fight, focus on Vernell and ignore the fanatics. Yes, they are rogues, but they seem to just keep coming if you don't kill Vernell first. After the fight, tell the Viscount to not burn the Qunari and to not keep the matter hidden. Loot all the corpses, get the shield from the crate for Aveline, and leave this place. I recommend doing the side quests below before continuing (see "All That Remains" for the next main quest). ============================================================================= --[The Lost Patrol]---------------------------------------------------------- You should already have this quest if you've been following the walkthrough. If not, I'm pretty sure you get this from Aveline or around where she is at. At any rate, go to the Wounded Coast. Take the southern path and kill the raiders as you make your back to the familar T junction. From here, go south and you will meet an abomination with shades. Destroy them with aoe and take out the abomination first. After the battle, you have to report back to the Qunari at the docks to finish the quest. ============================================================================= --[Dissent]------------------------------------------------------------------ You should automatically acquire this quest, but you still need to speak to Anders in Darktown at his clinic. Agree to help him with his Tranquil Solution quest. Go to the southern-most part of Darktown to find the dungeon. You need to fight off a band of thugs on your way, but they are not really a threat. At the dungeon door, agree to help Anders again. Pick your party, then go inside the dungeon. Make your way south. Soon you will come across a lot of lyrium henchmen. There are three spawns, so be careful and don't let them hit your weaker characters. After the battle, go south through the dungeon. You will have to fight a few caravans of mercenaries and lyrium hunters. They are rather easy to defeat. Once you've gone a respectable distance south, you will reach the mage and the lyncher. No matter what you say, you will have to fight Ser Alrik. First, take out the rogues up the stairs. They should go down with a simple ability as they have little health. Then, focus on Ser Alrik. Use aoe to hit him as well as the people around him. After the fight, Anders starts to go crazy. Whatever you do, do not try the authority card as it will backfire and you will lose reputation with Anders. Just try to calm him down peacefully and rationally. After this, loot all the corpses and go south to reach Darktown again. At Darktown, you will automatically speak to the mage that you rescued. Tell her to go home or to go back to the circle. Now head back to the clinic and talk to Anders. Keep choosing the top dialogue option and you will get major positive reputation points with him. With that, you have completed the quest. ============================================================================= --[The One True Pantaloons]-------------------------------------------------- You will receive the item you need to deliver for this quest on the previous quest in the dungeon. Go to Hightown during the day and head to the golden marker. Exchange the pantaloons for one sovereign. This is not bad at all for a small, small quest. ============================================================================= --[Family Matter]------------------------------------------------------------ Go to the Hanged Man and talk to Varric at his room. You will hear about Bartrand; it seems he is back in Kirkwall. Make sure Varric is in your party, then go to Hightown at night and follow the golden marker to Bartrand's Estate. Inside, you will have control of just Varric. This fight is easier than it seems. You need to face about four or five waves of henchmen. It doesn't even matter if you've never played an archer before, you will get the gist of it quickly. Basically, use aoe and fire at people. Then we realize it was all just Varric's imagination. In the real situation, you need to go from room to room killing men until you reach the room that was in Varric's fantasy. Switch to your rogue and disarm the trap in the center of the room. This battle is particularly brutal; you need to kill everyone but the commanders and then focus on the commanders. They have high health pools. After this is done, you will meet Bartrand's man. He cannot be attacked and is friendly. Once the conversation is complete, loot both side rooms then enter the middle room. You encounter Bartrand finally. He is a rogue so he can stealth. Just focus on him whenever he decides to pop up and backstab you; he is the only one you need to kill. Once his health is depleted, he talks to Varric. You have a choice here: either you tell Varric to kill him or to spare him. After that's done, the quest is complete. ============================================================================= --[Ladies' Night Out]-------------------------------------------------------- You'll probably get this quest on the way to Bartrand's estate in the "Family Matters" quest. If you don't, walk around Hightown at night and attack all the invisible sisters that ambush you. Loot their corpses to find the location of the leader. Head to the hideout. It's right next to the Hawke Estate. Inside, open the door to find the leader with an armada of invisible sisters. Take out the leader first as she is a rogue. Once you've done her in, start attacking the sisters. There are several waves of them but they have such low health pools that it takes only a few hits or a spell to kill them. Once the area is completely clear (check the adjacent rooms for more sisters), the quest will be completed. ============================================================================= --[The Long Road]------------------------------------------------------------ For this quest, go to Aveline's office in Viscount Keep. She will want you to give a letter to Donnic. It seems she likes him. Go to Donnic and give him the letter. Just keep to the top option for this quest. You can even flirt with Aveline a little to up your reputation with her. Head back to Aveline and tell her the bad news. She tells you to look at the people at the duty roster. After another bad reaction, head back to Aveline. If Isabela is in your party, she will come up with the idea of getting Donnic drunk and then having Aveline tell her. It's a decent plan (in an alternate universe...) so go to Donnic and tell him that everyone's going to the pub tonight. At the Hanged Man, walk up to Donnic and talk to him. After some awkward dialogue, he leaves. Tell Aveline that you will still help, and you will arrange a completely safe patrol in the Wounded Coast for her. Exit the Hanged Man and go there. At the junction you will encounter foes. Kill them, then take the northern path. You will reach a band of mabari. Destroy them then the spawns. Signal Aveline at the torch and continue down the path. You will encounter more raiders at a camp. Kill them, being wary of the traps, and then have your roge disarm the traps. Now signal Aveline again. Go southeast down the path now to another signal fire. This one is again guarded by raiders. After killing them, more raiders spawn behind you. Once they are gone, signal Aveline again. In this dialogue, I only had the options to put Donnic on the spot or flirt with Aveline. This might vary depending on how you have played so far. I put him on the spot, and Aveline was mad at me and demanded I go back to the barracks to see her. Back at the barracks, talk to her when Donnic asks to be alone with her. After some giggling, talk to Aveline again to complete the quest and gain reputation with her. ============================================================================= --[The Shield of the Knight Herself]----------------------------------------- Go to Viscount Keep and give Aveline the shield. Simple as that. Answer however you want to. You get the shield from one of the other side quests. ============================================================================= --[A Ship for Isabel]-------------------------------------------------------- You get the model ship from the main quest after the deep roads expedition. Give it to Isabel at the Hanged Man. You can choose to flirt with her here if you like by choosing the heart icon dialogue option. ***************************************************************************** ============================================================================= --[All That Remains]--------------------------------------------------------- Go to your estate and a conversation ensues about your mother. Answer whichever way you prefer. Now go to Lowtown at night. Follow the golden arrow to a boy who seems to know what you are looking for. Tell him you won't pay him. After the conversation, follow the trail of blood to the foundry. In the foundry, continue following the blood to the trapdoor on the ground in the northeastern hall/room. In here, go down the steps and you will encounter a horde of shades and one abomination. Kill the shades so they don't get on your damage dealers, then take out the abomination. After the fight and ensuing cutscene, follow the linear path until you reach a cutscene involving your mother's amulet. Now, go down the stairs to the magic barrier. Here, you will need to fight off an armada of foes. They are simple to defeat, however, and as shades and abominations they don't do very much damage. After the battle, loot everything in the shrine area then continue south to reach another cutscene. For the fight, the mage is in a magic barrier and is invulnerable to attack so focus on the other demons. You will have to fight two small waves and then two waves of possession demons. Kill the possession demons first before the rogues or archers. After this, you will finally be able to fight the mage who did this to your mother. He goes down *really* quickly; just a few abilities will do him in for good. Kill the rest of his friends and watch the next cutscene. Answer your mother in whatever way you like, and then we are back at the Estate. Answer Gamlen in whatever fashion, then your love interest (whoever he/she is) will come to console you in your room. For me, it was Isabela. You can answer him/her however you wish. After that, the quest is done. ============================================================================= --[Following the Qun]-------------------------------------------------------- At the estate, read the "Following the Qun" letter from the Viscount. After, go to the Viscount Keep and talk to him. It seems his son wants to be converted. Head to the docks on the map screen. Instead of going to straight to the docks, you end up at an alley. Go north to meet some thug. After destroying the two waves of thugs, go north to reach the real docks. Now go to the compound and talk to the leader. After the conversation, go back to the Kirkwall Map and head to the Chantry at night. Seems you have been set up. Kill all the righteous fanatics first and then the leader. More fanatics will spawn, but there health is minimal. After the battle, you have to do some speaking with a higher-up. I just chose the top option and everything worked out wonderfully. After the cutscene, you will have to talk to the Viscount about his son. Answer gracefully (or not) and the quest is completed. ============================================================================= --[To Catch A Thief]--------------------------------------------------------- Isabela will speak up after the last quest and state that she needs to speak with you at your home. At the Estate, things get rather heated between Isabela and Aveline. You have to choose whether to help Isabela, and she says that this might be connected with the Qunari problem, so agree to help her out. Put Isabela in your party and head to Lowtown at night. Go the yellow marker; you will have to fight some mabari and their dog owners. Once you reach the marker, you find out that Qunari want the relic, too. You will have to kill this band of Qunari. The lackeys are easy; it's Sten you really have to worry about. I suggest killing the others first nevertheless because damage against healers is bad. Kill the Sten and you will talk to Isabela again. Tell her that you will give the relic to her once you get it. This is what I did because I had a romance with her; I think things end exactly the same if you don't choose to say to give it to her. Inside the compound, Isabela runs off and you have to do the fighting. This is practically the same fight as before, except you have another wave to deal with. However, this wave does not have another Sten. After the fight, loot the corpses and go back outside. Loot the two corpses to find a letter from Isabela stating that she had to leave. Aw, damn, there goes the eyecandy! ============================================================================= --[Demands of the Qunari]---------------------------------------------------- Do any side quests you need to before attempting this quest. You won't be able to do them when you are on this quest or after it. I suggest making a save specifically for this purpose. Anyway, put Aveline in your party and head to the docks during the day. Go to the compound gates and agree with Aveline that you are ready to go. Again, make a save before here just in case. Aveline will get you into the compound; from here, the Arishok will talk to you two. Tell him that Isabela has the relic. The conversation will turn to the elves. Answer in whichever way you like. I've been telling you this throughout the guide and it remains pretty much the same here. The Qunari attack your party and you leave. Outside, talk to Aveline and form your party. Go up the stairs to meet a few waves of Qunari. They are not difficult to defeat. Follow the linear path to another fight. This time, you are fighting with friendly wardens against the Qunari. I suggest letting the wardens do the tanking while you take out the mage up the stairs. After the battle, the conversation with the warden does not go well. It seems they have pressing matters. They do, however, give you a Warden's Ring. Equip it on your best melee character. Now, continue through Lowtown to the entrance to Hightown. Before you can enter, you are ambushed by an armada of Qunari and Elven supporters. Kill the archers first and then focus on the Sten. After the first wave, you will have two more waves of medium-health pool opponents before you can finally enter Hightown. After the talk with two Qunari dragging a human, you have to fight them. There are three waves here; remember to take out the mages and archers first. Once the fight is complete, you will have a cutscene with Meredith. Afterwards, continue following the linear road through Hightown until you reach thugs and Qunari. Kill them both. The first wave has low health, but the second wave has assassins that have rather large health pools for being rogues. After the fight, follow the linear route to another fight. This time it's against just Qunari. Watch out for the Sten at the last wave. Afterwards, you talk to Orsino and Bethany/Carver. You have a choice to follow Meredith (blast your way in) or Orsino (stealth in). I chose Meredith here, but I think Orsino is about the same only you don't fight any enemies. Anyway, agree with Meredith again and we have a big fight. For this battle, aoe works wonders. Just implant yourself in the middle of the crowd and whirlwind or use an aoe mage attack/rogue attack to kill them quickly. After the following cutscene, you are inside the keep. Kill the spawning Qunari. There are a few waves of them and a Sten at the end. Loot the corpses and follow the golden arrow through the center hall to a cutscene. Afterwards, you have to fight three Qunari honor guards. For the conversation afterwards with Arishok, you can either give up Isabela or not. I chose not to give her up and to duel Arishok one on one. I hear you can also go everyone against everyone as well. For the fight I chose (one on one), you have to stand mano y mano against him. It's rather tough as he can impale you and uses one health potion. I just stayed right in his grill, stun him, and have at it. When he gets unstunned, either run away or use health potions aplenty. He has a ton of health, so this battle will seemingly go on forever. Luckily, you have enough skills right now to take out a large chunk of health each stun. It's a hard fight, so you will need to use a lot of health potions. After the battle, things are fine and well in Kirkwall. Well, maybe not. Meredith has a pressing matter, and Orsino thinks differently. I chose the middle road option here. Once the conversation is over, go to the Hawke Estate and look at your letters. Pick up the quest "On The Loose." ============================================================================= --[On The Loose]------------------------------------------------------------- Head to the Gallows. Here, go to the Templar Hall on the map, denoted by the golden arrow. Now go to Meredith. She wants you to track down three mages. Accept the quest and talk to Elsa to find out about them. Now go back to the map and head to Lowtown during the day. At Lowtown, go to the Elven Alienage (it's at the marker on the map). Talk to Nyssa about Huon. Now go back to the map and go to the Elven Alienage during the night. You will find Huon there, presumably possessed by the devil. The fight against him is pretty easy. He will use a spell that stuns your whole party, but rather than that he's just a normal mage. Focus on him and the others will fall automatically. Now that you have one down, go to Hightown at night. Head to the Delauncet Mansion in the estates section of the town. Talk to the family about Emile. Afterwards, head to the Hanged Man during daytime and confront Emile. In the conversation, just go with the flow. You can even try to whore Isabela out, although that does not result in anything too funny. Turn him in and this part of the quest is over. For the third mage, go to Darktown and talk to Walter about Evelina to find out she is in the sewers. Down there, follow the linear way when you reach a handful of shades and a raging demon. Kill the demon and then take out the shades. For the next fight, there is a fire trap you can make of use to kill the demons. There are two traps in the causeway. One that comes up from the ground and another that fires from a wall. I suggest just running as fast as you can to the cutscene to avoid getting injured too badly. After the cutscene, you have to fight a ton of shades and Evelina in the form of a desire demon. Focus on Evelina when you can as the shades are just trash mobs. Head back to the Gallows and tell Meredith the news. ============================================================================= --[Best Served Cold]--------------------------------------------------------- Pick up the quest at the letter desk at your Estate. Go to the Gallows and talk to Orsino. Now head to Hightown during the night. Go to the chantry courtyard and then to the estate area. You break up a meeting between circle magi and what looks like templars. For the battle, take out the mages before the leader. The mages do more damage and go down a lot faster. More will spawn, but after a few waves you are victorious. Loot the corpses to find out that they are having a meeting of sorts in a warehouse at the docks. Go to the docks at night and head to where the golden marker is located. You will have to fight the usual thugs along the way. Inside the warehouse, you encounter the meeting. After breaking it up, a fight ensues. For the battle, take out the mages and archers first and then focus on the leaders. Once you are victorious, Keran talks to you. Answer the dialogue options however you wish. You can kill him outright, turn him into the guard, or let him be. If you choose to turn him in, you will score points with Aveline. After that, exit the area to turn up back at the docks. Now go to the Wounded Coast. Here, take the southern path and at the T junction go south. You will meet some apostates and troops. After killing them, you have a conversation with someone familiar. Answer the mage question however you see fit. Go south to reach another cutscene. No matter how you respond, you end up fighting Grace and everyone else. For this fight, take out the enchanters and archers first and then Grace. She turns into an abomination after her first death so you have to kill her again. Go back to Osrino and report your findings to him to complete the quest. ============================================================================= --[The Last Straw]----------------------------------------------------------- This is it, Skippy! The final hurray! I recommend completing all the side quests you can before taking on this quest. It is the final quest so there's no going back. Make a save so you can! Anyway, go to Hawke's Estate and read the letter "The Last Straw" and then return to the Gallows. You will be taken to Orsino and Meredith. You can either side with the mages or templars here. They both have small benefits (Aveline stays loyal to you if you side with the templars, Anders if you side with the mages) but as far as the walkthrough is concerned, pretty much nothing changes besides the order of boss fights and the trash mobs. I chose to side with the templars (I wanted my tank!). Keep choosing the templar (or mage) option and you will fight either a band of templars or mages. I fought mages, and they were easy to take down with one whirlwind. After that, you have a choice with Anders if you are on the templar side. You can either let him go or kill him outright. I chose to let him go. Traverse the streets and go south at the junction. You will encounter some mages fighting templars. If you sided with the mages, you will have to fight everyone. Templars: just the mages. The battle is tougher than it seems because tough shades spawn behind you. Be sure to watch out for that or they might kill your healer/damage dealers. After the battle, continue to the golden marker on the map. Now you encounter a desire demon with a handful of shades. Focus on the desire demon first. This battle is pretty tough if you focus on the shades instead. Once the desire demon is down, act as the cleanup crew. Continue following the linear path when you reach an armada of templars fighting a handful of mages. This is another tough fight. Focus on the mages and not the shades. The mages can deal major damage if they are not handled quickly. After the battle, go down the stairs to the docks. One of the most difficult fights in the game is up ahead, perhaps even more difficult than the battle with the Arishok. Go down the steps and you will encounter a mage, a pride demon, and fifteen or so shades. Yes, _really_. Focus on the mage first as he can do heavy damage if left alone. Make sure no shades are on your healer/damage dealers, and especially not the pride demon. As for the demon, it will take a _long_ time to down him; be sure to use health potions as many times as needed. After the fight follow the golden marker to a boat that goes to the Gallows. After a long cutscene, you will have to talk to Osrino. You can still change your allegiance I think, but I stayed on the templar side. After more conversation, tell Meredith/Osrino that you are ready for the final fights. After another cutscene, it's time to rumble. This is another very hard battle. The mages need to be taken out first and they are up the stairs on the sides. They will spawn abominations and shades in front of them, but just pass by those to the mages. Once the mages are down, focus on aoeing the shades to death. Anders shows up if you didn't kill him. For this fight, kill Anders first. He goes down rather fast because he is a mage. Kill his mage friends and another cutscene ensues. After, go up the stairs and take the left door. In this hall, you will have to fight skeletal archers, abominations, and an arcane horror. The abominations come from the side rooms (which have chests). There is fire that is raining down on you as well. I recommend running to the horror and killing it first, then take out the archers, and finally the crowding abominations. Pick the chests and go through the door to find two Pride Demons waiting. This fight can be tough. Have Aveline tank one demon while you tank the other (if you are a warrior, if not have someone else do it). It worked out good for me as I had two tanks (well, one semi-tank) and two damage dealers and they both split apart nicely. After killing the pride demons, a bunch of shades spawn, but these guys are easy to deal with. Once the fight is complete, go back to the courtyard and take the right door this time. You will have to fight a handful of mages this time. For this battle, run up to them and aoe them to death. After they're gone, a blood mage and abominations spawn to avenge the fallen. Take out the blood mage first, then the shades, and finally the abomination. Open the northern door. There are three doors here. A door in front of you, to the right, and to the northwest. DO NOT open the door in front or to the right as they have just enemies. Unless, of course, you need the XP. In the one in front you will find a raging demon along with trap fire. In the other, a circle of mages along with a desire demon. Open the northwest door and go up the hall. You will meet Sandal. Choose this time to use any enchants you may have on your weapons. Now go through the only door available. Shades and rage demons spawn to fight here, but it is nothing you haven't been dealing with throughout the game. Before opening the templar hall door, save the game. You have to battle against Osrino now. He has three phases. In the first phase, just attack him as the templars soak up the damage. It will take a while, but you will down him. He will turn into something smaller and jump across the room. Run to him and attack him until he disappears, then fight all the stuff he spawned. After killing all the enemies he spawned, he will return. Attack him and repeat this process a few times and he will return to his giant body. He can stun everyone around him if he wants to. Just keep attacking him - letting the templars soak up the damage - and he will finally fall. Once the fight is over, you have a choice to spare Bethany/Carver(?) or let him/her die. This does make much of a difference in the course of the walkthrough, so I let him/her live. Meredith wasn't very happy and left. Choose your party, level up, and head south to the templar hall. I don't want to spill any spoilers, but you have to fight Meredith for the final battle. Tear her down with abilities. Let your tank do the tanking please. After a quarter of her health is gone, another cutscene ensues. You have to fight a gate guardian now. He's no pushover, and he has aoe attacks, but he goes down moderately fast. Meredith pops back up. Keep attacking her until she disappears for the second time. Again, have your tank do the tanking and you should be just fine. If you are having trouble, switch to the tank yourself and do it. Once she hops away, another gate guardian comes out to play. After dealing with it, destroy the slave statues and Meredith comes back out. She now has an actual aoe attack! Well, good for her! She really needed it to make this interesting. Keep throwing all your abilities on her and she will jump away again. This time she summons everyone on Noah's Ark. A Gate Guardian and three Slave Statues. This is pretty hard, but if you keep everyone healed, it should be just fine. Focus on the Slave Statues first, then the Gate Guardians. Soon Meredith will come back. This is the last phase. Use your best attacks and potions and you should be good to go. This game isn't as hard as the first. Just keep hammering away at her and she should go down. It won't be fast or pretty, but she will. Enjoy the final cutscenes as you have just beaten Dragon Age II! \ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ / \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ 3. This will also complete "Portrait of the Past." ============================================================================= --[Dissent]------------------------------------------------------------------ You should automatically acquire this quest, but you still need to speak to Anders in Darktown at his clinic. ============================================================================= --[Finder's Keepers]--------------------------------------------------------- ================ == HANGED MAN == ================ Go to the Hanged Man with Isabela in your party and talk to her. ============================================================================= --[Grimoire of the Apprentice]----------------------------------------------- Go to Lowtown and talk to Bonwald. He will give you fifty silver pieces for it and this small delivery quest is completed. For Aveline (if I recall correctly), don't kill him. ============================================================================= --[The First Sacrifice]------------------------------------------------------ Hightown > NPC Ghyslan > Blooming Rose > NPC Jethann > Darktown > NPC Emeric > Lowtown > Dark Foundry > Search corpses for the ring > NPC Ghyslan That is the order of operation for this quest. Not much else to say, just go to those places in that order and kill any enemies. Ie, go to the golden marker. Sorry for my laziness but I do not like to do this quest as it hurts my reputation with Queen Isabela. ============================================================================= --[The Remains of Sister Plinth]--------------------------------------------- In the chantry, go to the golden marker to find Brother Plinth. Give him the package to complete the quest. \ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ / \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ \/ 4.
