INTRODUCTION ============================================================= This is officially my first FAQ. I decided to do it on Portal 2 because it’s easy to describe how to get through each level. Please bear with me on it; if there’s anything that I wrote that’s too confusing for you to understand, please email me at cakeisalie@gmx.com and tell me. I beat this game already, but I’m running it through again – slowly – so I can make the guide. It will be updated later. I’m planning on making more FAQs later if I get a good reaction with this one. If you’d like to give extra support, please go to cakeisalie52.webs.com and press the “donate” button. Thanks for reading! ============================================================= 2. CHARACTERS ============================================================= Chell – The character that you control. She mastered the portal gun then killed GLaDOS in the first Portal. GLaDOS – An AI unit that runs Aperture Science. She was murdered by you, but is willing to put that all aside – for science. You monster. Wheatley – Your little reactor core friend. He’s in charge of helping the test subjects in Aperture Science. He’s also an idiot, so he doesn’t prove to be very helpful when you need to escape from GLaDOS. Cave Johnson – The original owner of Aperture Science. He, instead of GLaDOS, guided test subjects through the chambers back in 1950-1980. He soon got sick and stated that when he died, he wanted Caroline to run the company. Caroline – Cave Johnson’s assistant who supposedly ran the company after him. (I won’t tell you the rest, it’s a secret!) Announcer – A male pre-recorded voice that guides you through the first set of test chambers, basically the instruction course. Turrets – Robots made by GLaDOS that shoot bullets at you. You’ll run into them a lot in the game, and have to kill each and every one. Reactor Cores – Round metal objects with a single “eye” that apparently make robots explode when they’re attached to them. There’s been six in both Portal games; each has a different voice, different personality, and a different color. ============================================================= 3. WALKTHROUGH ============================================================= ============================================================= 4.1 Single Player ============================================================= ===================================== 4.1.1 Chapter 1 – The Courtesy Call ===================================== ------------------ 4.1.1.1 Prologue ------------------ “Good news. That is NOT a docking station.” - Wheatley Outside of the Chambers #1 Chamber The view of the room comes into view, and a male voice from an intercom starts talking to you. He tells you that you need to complete your mandatory physical and mental exercise for the day. All you have to do is look up and then look down, and that’s apparently enough exercise. Next, you have to walk over to the painting of the mountain on the wall and stare at it, followed by classical music, for your mental portion of the test. Go back to your bed after that. After you wake up, you’ll hear a voice. Walk over to the door in your little hallway and open it to find Wheatley. The voice over the intercom will tell you that it’s time for an emergenct evacuation, and Wheatley, assuring you that it’s alright, will enter a hole through the ceiling, claiming he’ll get you out the chamber. When Wheatley asks you to say “yes”, press A. Obviously, you’ll just jump, and Wheatley acknowledges that. He then asks you to say “apple”. Press A again, and you jump again. Ignoring this, Wheatley will go back up to the roof so he can start carrying the room around, and eventually find a “docking station”. Outskirts Jump into the debris of your chamber. Wheatley will leave you for the time being. Head forward and fall through the glass and into a room. This activates the male announcer’s voice, and your testing begins. ----------------- 4.1.1.2 Level 1 ----------------- TEST CHAMBERS #1 HEADED BY: MALE ANNOUNCER Test Chamber 1.0 After the announcer finishes talking and the portal opens, head through it. You’re about to go through test chambers almost the same as the beginning of the original Portal. Head around the glass room and out the door. This room will have a simple cube-and-button-based test. Walk over to the cube and pick it up. Drop it on the button and head through the door. ----------------- 4.1.1.3 Level 2 ----------------- Test Chamber 1.1 Go down into the room with the three glass sections. An orange portal will open in the front of the room. First, go to the section on the right and press the button. A blue portal will open in that section. Go through the orange portal, grab the cube, and go back. Next, go to the section on the left. Press the button there and another blue portal will open up in that section. Holding the cube, go into the orange portal and place the cube onto the button. Now go back through the blue portal. Finally, press the button in front of the center section. Go through the orange portal again and enter the door. ----------------- 4.1.1.4 Level 3 ----------------- Test Chamber 1.2 As you turn the corner in this test chamber, you’ll run into Wheatley once again. He’ll tell you that there’s a portal device on a podium. Turn the corner again and go into the little room with all of the rubble and vegetation. As soon as you walk near it, the ground beneath you will cave in and you’ll be in another room. Walk through the water, as Wheatley talks, into the room with the orange portal. You’ll see a podium with the blue portal gun on top. Take the steps up to it and walk right into it to pick it up. Turn around and shoot a blue portal onto the section of the wall with the paintings and walk into it. Go up the destroyed catwalk and up the next flight of stairs. Go through these next rooms until you take a drop and the announcer’s voice comes back. Shoot a portal on the wall to your left and walk into it. Looking to your left, you’ll see the door leading out. Shoot a blue portal on that wall and go through the orange one to complete the chamber. ----------------- 4.1.1.5 Level 4 ----------------- Test Chamber 1.3 As the smooth jazz plays, walk into this room, past the glass. You’ll see a pit in the corner of the room. If you look into it, you’ll see a cube. Shoot a blue portal underneath of it. Go over to the orange portal, take out the cube, and put it on the button. Test Chamber 1.4 The first thing you should do in this chamber is walk over to the pit in the room. Another cube will be down there. Shoot a blue portal under it and go in after it. You’ll be able to get the cube onto the button now. For the second cube, shoot a blue portal onto the wall. Go into it and you’ll come out again on the raised platform on the left-hand side of the room. There’s a cube on the platform directly across from it. Shoot a portal on the wall of that platform and walk into the orange portal. Take the cube, put it on the button, and go out the door. Now you’ll be in a glass room. Shoot a portal on the wall and walk through it to fall back onto the room. The glass will break and the frame will slant, giving you a ramp to go up above the room. Walk into the room on the right and back out of the exit in the front of it to get past the glass. ----------------- 4.1.1.6 Level 5 ----------------- Test Chamber 1.5 Shoot a portal on the floor here and go right through. This will probably be the first chamber you have to think about. Press the button behind you to have a cube released on the platform in the back right-hand corner of the room. Shoot a portal underneath it (zoom in if you have to) and it’ll come out where you were standing before. Place it on the button and go up the stairs. Here, you’ll see two buttons and a slanted platform sticking out of the wall above the water. Shoot a blue portal on the platform. Now, press the button on the left (which releases the cube), wait a second, and press the button on the right (which raises a platform, preventing the cube from falling in the water). This cube should be back where you were before. Take it, walk up the steps again, place it on the button, and go through the door. ----------------- 4.1.1.7 Level 6 ----------------- Test Chamber 1.6 This next test will involve portals using momentum. This means that you will exit a portal maintaining the same speed that you had when you entered the first one. Basically, if you enter a blue (or orange) portal while you’re falling, you’ll fly out of the orange (or blue) portal at the same speed you were falling before. Shoot a blue portal on the wall here and walk through. Now, in the center of the floor, you’ll see a sort of ditch. Shoot a blue portal down there and, using the rules of maintaining momentum, fall into it from the very top. You’ll fly out of the orange portal and onto the raised platform. You’ll see a little glass room with a hole in it here. Shoot a blue portal through the hole and underneath the cube. Go back and pick up the cube. Now you’ll go back to the platform using the same rules of momentum as before. Place the cube on the button and go through the door. In this room, the orange portal will be where the blue one was before. Now you have to shoot the blue portal where you want to come out of. If you turn around, you’ll see a slanted platform on the right side of the wall. Shoot a blue portal onto it and fall into the orange portal. Take the cube and go back. Turn around again and shoot a blue portal on the very top-left corner of the wall. Fall into the orange portal again (with the cube). Follow the arrow around the cracked glass and into the closed-off section with the button. Place the cube on the button. Now that the platform to the door’s raised, go back down again. Shoot another portal in the same place as before, just a bit more to the right. Fall into the orange portal again and go through the door. ----------------- 4.1.1.8 Level 7 ----------------- Test Chamber 1.7 This chamber is obviously impossible to solve. You’ll hear Wheatley again on the other side of the room. Shoot a blue portal behind him and go through the orange portal. Test Chamber 1.8 Wheatley will talk to you about how he’ll supposedly die if he unattatches himself from his management rail, but he says he has to do it anyway. Get ready to “catch” him, on the count of three. Wheatley quickly withdraws after three, and claims that it’s too much time to think – catching you completely off guard, he’ll fall “on the count of one”, giving you no time whatsoever to catch him. He falls on the ground regardless, so don’t worry about that. A panel on the wall will now open with a complicated system of buttons. Bring Wheatley over to it and shove him into it. Wheatley says that he can’t do anything while you’re watching, so turn around and let him do whatever it is he does. The wall will now open, and you can go on the catwalk in the outskirts of the test chambers. Outside of the Chambers #2 Outskirts Go through the door and follow the rail, as Wheatley says. You’ll come to a room with a turret trapped in a glass tube. Ignore it and let Wheatley handle him. Keep going through the next door. ----------------- 4.1.1.9 Level 8 ----------------- GLaDOS’s Chamber Wheatley tells you that you have to go through “her” chamber to get through, and “she” will probably kill you if she’s awake. Go through the hallway and make a right turn to GLaDOS’s warehouse. As the door opens, Wheatley starts urgently telling you to turn around, but the door opens anyway, and GLaDOS appears to be turned off. Walk through the warehouse and into the room in the back. Follow the catwalk again. There’s a ditch here. Jump down onto the rail below. Follow the catwalk again into the main breaker room. Wheatley tells you to look for a switch that says “escape pod”. There isn’t one, so just wait until Wheatley finishes talking and plug him into the stick to turn the lights on. Of course, the pod starts moving up, back into GLaDOS’s chamber. GLaDOS starts powering up at this point, while Wheatley claims he can fix it by hacking the password. GLaDOS recognizes that you were her murderer. But, she tells you that she’s willing to put it all behind – for science. You monster. ------------------ 4.1.1.10 Level 9 ------------------ The Incinerator Room Carefully navigate through the incinerator room, being careful not to trip on any parts of GLaDOS that weren’t completely burned. When you get to the back of the room, you’ll get the orange portal gun. Shoot a portal on the wall next to you and another on the wall of the room above you. Go through the hallways, continuing this. GLaDOS will then move a few platforms for you in one room. Shoot a portal on the slanted platform, and another on the wall next to you. Go into the next room. You’ll get to a part where there’s a room in front of you and two on either side of you. Shoot a portal on the wall of the room of the right. Now, look across to the room on the left and shoot another portal on the wall there. Go through the hallway until you reach a pile of garbage. Test Chamber 1.19 Look at that – you’ve skipped all the way ahead to the last chamber. GLaDOS will move the garbage for you here. Go through the door to complete the first set of test chambers and the first chapter. ================================= 4.1.2 Chapter 2 – The Cold Boot ================================= ----------------- 4.1.2.1 Level 1 ----------------- “Here’s your first test. Which involves deadly lasers. And how test subjects react when locked in a room with deadly lasers.” - GLaDOS TEST CHAMBERS #2 HEADED BY: GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.1 This next set of test chambers will take up a whole three chapters, so I hope you have the time. In the middle of the room, there’s two platforms. One on the left, one on the right. Shoot a blue portal underneath the laser on the left platform. Now go to the front of the room where there’s a blue platform. Jump onto it and look outward to the platform on the right (now left) of the room. Shoot an orange portal on the ceiling above it. The laser should come down and power the button, lifting the platform you’re standing on up and opening the door. ----------------- 4.1.2.2 Level 2 ----------------- “That’s what it says – a horrible person! We weren’t even testing for that.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.2 Here’s a new object to play with. Jump over the laser in the center of the floor and walk over to alcove in the left. Shoot a blue portal on the ground next to you and an orange portal underneath the cube in the other section of the room. Grab the cube and walk over to the laser. This cube allows you to change the direction of a laser. Put it in front of the laser here and make a ninety-degree angle to make the laser hit the button on the wall. This will give you a platform up to the door. Walk up it. But you’re not done yet – shoot an orange portal on the floor next to you, and a blue portal underneath the cube. Grab the cube and place it on the button. NOW you’re finished. ----------------- 4.1.2.3 Level 3 ----------------- “If it makes you feel any better, science has now validated you birth mother’s decision to abandon you on a doorstep.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.3 This chamber combines your lessons in the last two chambers. Shoot a blue portal on the ceiling above the platform with the cube on it and an orange portal on the wall next to you. Go into the orange portal and get the cube. It’s a close enough distance here that you can jump to the platform in the center of the room. Use the cube to adjust the laser’s position and make a ninety-degree angle to activate the button on the wall. Now look for the second laser. Shoot a blue portal on the wall that it’s shooting at. Now shoot the orange portal underneath the button on the same platform that you got the cube from (zoom in if you have to). Go through the door and complete the chamber. ----------------- 4.1.2.4 Level 4 ----------------- “You’re navigating these test chambers faster than I can build them. So feel free to slow down and do whatever it is you do when you’re not destroying this facility.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.4 More lasers in this one. First, shoot a blue portal on the wall to the left of you. Then shoot an orange one on the wall of the alcove across from you. Enter the blue portal. Now press the button and a cube will come down from the ceiling. Shoot an orange portal on the wall where the laser’s shooting at. This will activate a button which makes as platform float across the river toward you. With good timing, get onto the platform along with your cube. As you approach the laser, slowly navigate around it by using your cube to block it (just remember that this will make the platform stop each time you do it). Jump into the alcove with the door and place the cube on the button, opening the door. ----------------- 4.1.2.5 Level 5 ----------------- “Here’s an interesting fact – you’re not breathing real air! ...I thought that was interesting.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.5 You won’t be using any portals here unless you want to knock down the camera (which I strongly suggest doing). Using the aerial faith plate, fly to the other side of the room. Press the button here, releasing a cube from the ceiling. It will continually bounce on the faith plate in the center of the room. Using good timing, jump back on the faith plate and try to catch the cube in mid-air. If you catch it, good. If not, keep trying. Once you get it, use the aerial faith plate to go to the back of the room and place the cube on the button, opening the door. ----------------- 4.1.2.6 Level 6 ----------------- “Now I have to go to the wing that was made entirely out of glass and pick up fifteen acres of broken glass – by myself.” Test Chamber 2.6 Here’s more aerial faith plates. First off, take a left when you walk through the door and go down this strip of path. Turn to your right and you’ll see two slanted platforms on the wall far away from you. Shoot a blue portal on one and an orange portal on the other. Now use the aerial faith plates, and you should be able to get to the other side of the room. Press the button on this side of the room to release a bunch of GLaDOS’s trash. Press it again to release the cube. If your portals are still on the platforms, it should come right to you. If it falls to the floor below you, go down there and get it, using portals to get back up again. If you look across from here, you’ll see where the button is. Shoot a blue portal on the ceiling directly above that and an orange portal on the wall next to you. Drop the cube through the orange portal. I hope you have good aim, because if you don’t, you’ll have to get a new cube. Getting the cube successfuly on the button will open the door. (Also, there’s a radio here playing “Still Alive” from the first Portal. I would suggest bringing it with you until it disintigrates.) ----------------- 4.1.2.7 Level 7 ----------------- “Did you know that people with guilty consciences are more easily startled by loud noises – [LOUD TRAIN HORN] I’m sorry. I don’t know why that went off.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.7 The return of Companion Cube. Actually, not the REAL Companion Cube, just a replica. Of course, GLaDOS will fizzle it a few times to bother you before you can use it, so just put up with it. When you get your third one, put it in front of the laser and walk onto the platform behind you. Shoot an orange portal somehwere on the floor and then shoot a blue one underneath the companion cube. You’ll ride the platform up to the next level Now you’ll need him back, so shoot a blue portal on one of the slanted platforms by the wall and an orange one underneath the companion cube. Now shoot a blue portal on the slanted platform on the right side of the wall and an orange one on the floor somewhere below you. You and the companion cube then have to fall through it. Place the companion cube on the buttonand go back. Now shoot your blue portal on the platform on the left and fall through the orange one. You’ll land on the now-raised platform and be able to go through the door. NOTE: There’s a little extra thing you can do in this level just for some extra dialogue from GLaDOS and an achievement. Once you’ve gone through the door, GLaDOS will tell you that the fizzler for this level is broken, and not to take anything. Of course, you can’t resist taking companion cube with you. Shoot an orange portal on the wall right when you walk through the door and then walk back to get the companion cube. Shoot a blue portal somewhere and take him through. I won’t tell you what happens, I’ll let it be a surprise. ----------------- 4.1.2.8 Level 8 ----------------- “This next test DOES require an explanation. Let me give you the fast version. [INCOMPREHENSIBLE SPED-UP SPEECH] There. If you have any questions, just remember what I said in slow-motion.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.8 Walk to your right and up the steps to go through the fizzler. Press the button in this room to have a cube released in the other room. Shoot a blue portal in this room and, using the hole in the wall, an orange portal in the other room. This will be how you get from room to room for the rest of the chamber. Go back to the other room (using your portals) and get the cube. Go back (still using the portals) and use the cube to adjust the lasers. Make a ninety-degree angle to hit the button on the wall past the fizzler. This will open the door for you. ============================== 4.1.3 Chapter 3 – The Return ============================== ----------------- 4.1.3.1 Level 1 ----------------- “You broke it, didn’t you? ...I’ll add a few zeroes to the maximum weight.” - GLaDOS “A bloody bird! I couldn’t believe it either!” - Wheatley “Like an eagle. Piloting a blimp.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.9 When you step on the aerial faith plate here, you’ll run into Wheatley again. He doesn’t do much here, but at least you know he’s still alive. Once GLaDOS finally fixes the plate, stand on it and stay in the air for as long as it takes for you to get a good shot with the blue portal gun on the slanted platform on the above-level of the room. Then shoot an orange portal on the ceiling that you’re slamming your head on, and you’re good to go. Walk into the room on the left with the laser in it. There’s two slanted platforms here, one on the right side and one on the left. Shoot a blue portal on the one on the right and go back to the aerial faith plate. Jump on it and you’ll be launched out of the blue portal. Press the button on this little platform to release a cube on the opposite platform. Now do the same thing with the platform on the left side to get the cube. Use it to make a ninety-degree angle with the laser on to the wall in the center room. Now shoot a blue portal on the raised platform in the center room that you originally used to get up here. Go back and use the aerial faith plate to launch yourself out of it. Once you get up here, shoot a blue portal on the wall where the laser’s hitting and an orange portal on the opposite side of the wall to activate the button that opens the door. ----------------- 4.1.3.2 Level 2 ----------------- “Yesterday I saw a deer.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.10 I had to beat this chamber in seventy seconds to get an achievement, so I can pretty much tell you how to do it with my eyes closed. As you first walk into the room, turn around and shoot a blue portal at the very top of the wall. Now walk over to the ditch on the other side of the room and shoot an orange portal in it. Jump through to land on the platform on the other side of the room. Grab the cube and continue back to where you were. Jump onto the aerial faith plate here along with the cube. Put the cube in front of the laser here to lower the platform that stopped you from going any farther. Now go back to the aerial faith plate and jump on it again. It’ll bring you up to another section of the room. Shoot a blue portal on the wall here and press the button. Turn around and prepare for the cube that comes hurtling toward you. Take it back down to where the other cube still is. Swap the cubes so you can make a ninety-degree angle with the laser. Shoot an orange portal on the wall to activate the button up top that lowers the second platform. Along with your normal cube, go back to the faith plate and jump on it again. This time you’ll land where the door is. Place your cube on the button and go through the door. ----------------- 4.1.3.3 Level 3 ----------------- “No you know who else murders people when they are just trying to help them?” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.11 This chamber introduces light bridges. It’s basically a bridge that can be transported to different areas by portals. This explanation may be confusing, so bear with me. Start by following this first one. Shoot a blue portal on the wall that it’s hitting. Now look to your left and shoot an orange portala on the wall of the platform where the door is. Follow this bridge over to that area and press the button. Now shoot an orange portal on the wall of the river below you, right underneath the door. Jump onto this bridge. Now turn to your right and shoot an orange portal on the wall jutting out of the side. Follow this into the area between two walls. Look to your left and shoot an orange portal on that wall. This time, walk toward the wall and shoot another orange portal on the wall to the right, adjacent to the other wall. Catch a cube falling down here and walk through the orange portal to get back where you were. Look at the wall on the right here. Shoot an orange portal about halfway up it. Go into the blue portal and follow the bridge to the button. Drop the cube on the button and go back through the orange portal. You’ll shoot your final orange portal at the same spot as the beginning. Walk across this bridge and go through the door to finish. ----------------- 4.1.3.4 Level 4 ----------------- “I’m going to note this on your commendations section. Oh, there’s LOTS of room here.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.12 The door starts malfunctioning as you approach it, so GLaDOS leaves to fix it. Wheatley appears at the window and talks to you for a bit, telling you that he’s coming up with a plan to break you out. Now go through the door to start the test. Looking a bit to your left, you’ll see a light bridge. Shoot a blue portal on the wall a little above it and an orange portal directly across from you. Walk onto the bridge. Now shoot a blue portal right where the bridge hits the wall. Go back through it to where you started from. Looking to the other side of the room, you’ll see a wall panel that’s kind of split into sixteen panels. Shoot your orange portal there and press the button to release a cube onto the bridge. Walk across and pick it up. Now walk across the bridge to the other side of the room. Turn around when you get to the end and shoot your orange portal on the wall that’s down lower. Hang on tight to your cube and walk across the bridge to the little alcove with the door. Place the cube on the button to open it. ----------------- 4.1.3.5 Level 5 ----------------- “Remember them? Those are the round spherical things filled with bullets. Oh, wait – that’s you in five seconds.” - GlaDOS Test Chamber 2.13 This test involves turrets. It’s based off of the first turret chamber in the original Portal. As you walk through the door, pick up the first turret and drop him. Place a blue portal on the wall here. Turn the corner just enough that you can place an orange portal behind the turret there. Walk through the blue portal and pick him up to kill him. Turn the corner again here and place an orange portal underneath the turret to kill him automatically. Place an orange portal above the turret behind the glass in this room. Put a blue portal underneath the cube here to crush the turret. Go place an orange portal above the second turret behind the glass and a blue portal underneath one of the other cubes. Bring both of the cubes back into the room. Don’t completely go into the next room, because there’s three turrets in there. Slightly turn the corner and put a blue portal above the turret closest to you. Place an orange portal under the cube in the other room. Do this to the other two turrets, and if you run out of cubes because you missed one, use the dead turrets from before or the camera on the wall. Place one of the cubes on the button here and go through the door. The catwalk’s broken, so you’ll have to fall through and go through some other doors. Go through this passageway straight into the next chamber. Test Chamber 2.14 This chamber’s very simple. Get the cube in the corner and make a ninety- degree angle with the laser to hit the single light directly across. The lights should look like this: ‘ ‘ with the bottom one lit. ‘ Shoot a blue portal on the wall where the laser’s hitting. Shoot an orange portal on the wall next to the row of two lights to hit them. This will open the door. ----------------- 4.1.3.6 Level 6 ----------------- “Still, what does she know? Oh, wait, it says she has a medical degree. In fashion! From France!” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.15 Don’t go straight into the room here. You’ll see a row of four turrets behind a light bridge. Don’t worry, they can’t shoot you with that in front of them. Shoot a blue portal where the bridge hits the wall. Now slowly turn the corner and shoot an orange portal on the wall in front of the turret. Walk up to it and quickly change the position of the orange portal, allowing you to pick him up and kill him. Shoot an orange portal on the wall across from you with the camera on it. Walk across this way. The bridge will protect you from the turrets. When you get to the back of the room, you’ll see the back wall has some portal panels on it. Shoot a portal on the panels to have a bridge come out. Step onto the aerial faith plate and the bridge should stop you from flying any farther. You should fall on top of the little bridge. Walk across the strip of land up here over to where the turrets surrounding the cube are. Fall on top of them to kill them all and take the cube. Take the cube over to the button in the center of the room. This will take away the glass in front of the turrets, so be prepared to shoot an orange portal to make a light bridge in front of them. Walk over to them to kill them and finish the chamber. ----------------- 4.1.3.7 Level 7 ----------------- “I’ll just give you a hint – it involves meeting two people you haven’t seen in a long time.” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.16 So GLaDOS is apparently going to reunite you with your parents for your belated birthday present. Walk into the room here, avoiding the turret. Shoot a blue portal on the wall where all the turrets are pointing there lasers. Now stand on the button and shoot an orange portal underneath the laser. This will destroy the row of turrets and give you access to the cubes. Take them both over to where the button is. Place the normal cube on the button and use the laser cube to adjust the laser to kill the turrets and activate the button. To the right of you, a panel will be lowered. Walk through it and go through the door to finish the chamber. ----------------- 4.1.3.8 Level 8 ----------------- “After all these years... I’m getting choked up just thinking about it!” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.17 There’s a light bridge right to your left here. Place a blue portal where it hits the wall. Now take the cube down from the bridge. Place an orange portal on the little section of panel on the back wall that’s in line with the laser. Put the cube on top of that bridge to stop the laser. Go to the front of the room where the rising platform is and step onto it. Replace the orange portal to make the cube drop, which makes the laser activate the button once again, which makes the platform rise, allowing you to go through the door. (If the cube does NOT fall on the button when you replace the orange portal, go back and try again.) ================================ 4.1.4 Chapter 4 – The Surprise ================================ ----------------- 4.1.4.1 Level 1 ----------------- “I made it all up. Surprise!” - GLaDOS Test Chamber 2.18 Ready for your surprise? It’s... nothing. Of course, GLaDOS tries to make you feel better by telling you that they abandoned you at birth, so she seriously doubts they ever want to see you again. That makes you feel better, right? Fall right out of the framing here. If you look at the right-hand corner on the back side of the room, you’ll see some portal pannel. Shoot a blue portal there and an orange portal underneath you. Press the button here to see two cubes fly out, hit aerial faith plates, collide with each other, and fall in the lake. Obviously, you can’t get to these, so zoom in where the light bridge is and shoot a blue portal where the bridge hits the ceiling. Shoot an orange portal on the floor where the cube on the other side of the room flies out so it’ll hit the bridge and fall back. Press the button now to have both cubes saved. Create an orange portal here and go back to that area. Grab the two cubes and bring them to the far left corner with the laser. Use one cube to hit the two lights that line up diagonally, and bring the second cube over to where the second light is. Use this cube to align the laser with the turret, destroying it. Now align the laser with the two lights in a diagonal row. Go back to where the laser starts and shoot an orange portal on the front pannel facing the direction that the door is. Shoot a blue portal where the light bridge stops and use the bridge to get to the door. ============================================================== 5.
