- Version 1.0
Finally, Valve updated Half-Life and its expansion Episode One with achievements coming from the XBOX 360. This guide is normally only for the PC/Mac version of the game.
I'm also getting some informations from Combine OverWiki, an HL wiki very well done (for the description of the achievements and their names): http://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Watch Your Head!
- Objective: Make it to the bottom of the Citadel's main elevator shaft in one piece.
During your trip into the Citadel and after getting the Super Grav Gun, you'll have to take an elevator with Alyx. But contrary to the prior lift in HL2, you'll get parts of bridges or of the building falling down on you. Each time that Alyx says "Watch out!" and that you see some white lines, get prepared to grab the big pieces before it crushes you. When you'll reach your destination (Alyx will see that she's seeing an opening in the bottom), get out of the elevator. You'll get the achievement. Of course, it's story-related, if you let the pieces coming on the lift, you're breaking it and it's game over.
- Objective: Kill five enemies with the same energy ball.
The easier way to get it is in the Core, in the first shield generator room. Grab a ball from the field, enter the hall and let Combine Soldiers come to you. Shoot your ball and wait that it's doing the kills. You may have to reload your game several times if your ball misses one soldier.
- Objective: Kill an Elite Soldier with his own energy ball.
During your trip to contain the Core, you'll meet some Elite Combines, you know, the white soldiers. They're not shy about using the Pulse Rifle's secondary fire, which consists in a energy ball. When you meet them, wait until one fires it, grab it and throw it back. But if you find any other Elites during the game, it can work, it's just that I'm sure that they're shooting them there, I know that they've done it before but when I reloaded, they never did it again and don't forget that you have Alyx killing for you. The Core is the only place where you're alone and not rescuing or attacked by anything else.
- Objective: Contain the Citadel core.
Basically, it's the second chapter that you have to go through to get it. But in reality, you'll get it once you get back to Alyx after putting energy balls where they should in order to contain the Core. Don't forget that for the third generator, you have to climb down its source power and to put three balls without forgetting for the third to be on the elevator.
- Objective: Contain the Citadel core without killing any stalkers.
It's the same achievement as Containment apart that you can't kill the two stalkers destroying your balls when you're attempting to make bridges. The goal here is to put energy balls in their holders and then to sprint on the bridge before it goes down. You'll have to do it a second time, then you will need to put balls in the three containers and to activate quickly the button on the last platform. Stalkers will stop destroying the balls and you can continue your quest. When you'll get Containment, you'll get Pacifist in the same time.
- Objective: Use the cars to squash 15 antlions in Episode One.
When you arrive in Lowlife, you'll see Antlions corpses. But it's not until you come into the parking that you'll meet entrances to their nests. The only way to block them is to push a car on it with the Gravity Gun. What is sure is that you'll get other nests to close in Urban Flight, so if you don't have the 15 during the famous battle in the parking with the three entrances, you still can get it when you've reached the surface. For crushing the Antlions, you just have to push the car on them.
- Objective: Survive long enough to get on the parking garage elevator.
You'll arrive in a big dark room but you'll not be attacked until you get the power on. You'll be assaulted by Zombies, Fast Zombies and Zombines. There are all over the place ammo, health kits or flares. You get the achievement once Alyx pushes the button in the lift.
- Objective: Use flares to light 15 Zombies on fire.
That one isn't as easy as it sounds unless you're confident in Alyx to protect your ass. But it's rewarding to put them on fire, as it's also killing them. Where do you find flares? Mainly in the parking garage elevator room, you can get it there. Personally, I've begun it at the beginning of Lowlife. First, I've just helped Alyx to eliminate some Zombines then I run in the end of the first part of the tunnel, near the door, took a flare and began to run into Zombies for flaring them. It's just precious advance for the rest. You have also a fight inside the hospital where you can burn more zombies if you're missing some.
- Objective: Help Alyx snipe 30 enemies in Episode One.
During your trip in a destroyed City 17, Alyx will be acting as a sniper in a fortified street. Just be the bait and lead enemies into Alyx's line of fire. In the end, you'll find Antlions and Combines, let Alyx kill them and don't put a car on the nest before she gets her 30 kills.
- Objective: Destroy the gunship in the hospital attic.
Like for the Gunships in HL2, use rockets for destroying it and guide them to the ship. Stay close to the rocket supply and when you have enough roof being torn down by the ship, shoot at it.
- Objective: Don't let any citizens die when escorting them to the escape train.
It's an hard objective, because the more you're advancing in the escort, the more damaged will be the train hangar and the more enemies will come. It should be noted that you can find a lot of ammo or health kits for you. If you want an advice, if you're doing the One Free Bullet in the same time, do a save before the first group and use guns to get the people safe. After, reload that save and play it without firing. It's still possible to get it without firing a bullet (I've done it for seeing if it was possible, at least, on Easy) but use rockets or grenades for clearing the area. You have a infinite rocket supply behind a trashbin, so, use them.
Escape From City 17
- Objective: Escape City 17 with Alyx.
Basically, that achievement can be called: beat the game. Indeed, you're escaping City 17 with Alyx after defeating the Strider at the station. But well, who said you'll be far away of the City when the Citadel is exploding? Don't forget that during the fight, rockets can be found at the upper part of the station on the right. You have to follow a special path consisting in waiting that the Strider opens some doors for you, to climb up for the left side of the building and to get under containers before reaching the right platform and the ladder leading to your precious rockets. Don't forget that if you're doing the One Free Bullet achievement, you can't shoot enemies. If you meet some Hopper Mines, sprint and jump above you with enough health. It's possible that their explosion will just give you a speed boost to the blue container with supply crates (and at that moment, they're really the most welcomed).
The One Free Bullet
- Objective: Finish the game firing exactly one bullet. Grenade, crowbar, rocket, and Gravity Gun kills are okay!
The only bullet you can fire is the one in the beginning of Lowlife, when you have to open the door for Alyx and that there is a paddlock on one of the doors. Else, let Alyx do the job, grab anything you can and kill like if you were in Ravenholm, when it will be needed, use grenades and rockets (the Strider or the Gunship will not be destroyed with your Gravity Gun) and you should get the achievement. If you survived Ravenholm or the Citadel, you can survive Striders, Gunships or Antlion Guards...
Tip for barnacles in hospital
One tip though that can be useful in the hospital. At one moment, you'll be falling in a water area with a lot of barnacles. Some are still sleeping, they're located above you, in the holes. As you know, you have to turn back the electricity for getting on the first floor. Unfortunately, these barnacles can't be killed as their tongues aren't touching water. So before being bothered by them, use the blue floating container with your gravity gun to kill them. You'll be at least in peace during the trip back.
