Main Menu

When you start the game then you see the main menu. You have the following options:

New Game
Continue
Credits
Tutorial

Exit

Obviously choosing the New Game option takes you to a new game. Similarly if you have started a game then Continue will take you to that game. The Credits option shows you all the people responsible for bringing this game into being. The tutorial gives you a brief and not very helpful description of how to play the game. It is as follows:

All keyboard assignments in this tutorial refer to the standard keyboard assignments. When you start Utility Vehicles Simulator for the first time, you are placed directly in front of your ompany premises. Here you will find the vehicles and equipment that you have purchased. To move use the WASD keys and the mouse to look around. You trigger actions by pressing the left mouse button. When you are in a vehicle you can display help by pressing the F1 key. In addition, help is displayed about new jobs during the game.

Thanks for that.

The Settings option gives you control over your settings. These are:

The Exit option takes you out of the game.

Walkthrough

So you start the game and a message pops up on the screen. It says:

A new job is available. You can accept jobs either from the pause menu (Esc key) or the office. If you accept jobs in the office, the time is automatically changed to the start time of the job. If you accept jobs in the pause menu time remains unchanged.

Also you’ll see on the screen in the top right you have 5,000 Euros and in the top left corner you’ll see an inset map with the time and the time you have left to finish the job (if you have a job).

So now either press the escape key or go to the office which is right in front of you where the massive green arrow is pointing.

If you go to the office you get another message just outside:

You can enter the office through the blue door (marked). In your office, you have access to the map, the description of your current job (if available), can raise invoices, call up finance stistics, accept new jobs, acces the instruction screen and adjust the game options. You can access the office via your PDA at any time by pressing the escape key. The following restrictions apply: it is not possible to raise invoices when you accept a job, the time is not reset to the start time of the job.

Ok, in we go.

Here you can see the following options:

Continue
Map
Current job (greyed out at start)
Invoice
Statistics
Tutorial
Settings
Main Menu

Also at the bottom is a job that you can accept by clicking on ‘‘Accept’‘.

The Map shows the map. You can move around the map by pressing and holding down one of the mouse buttons to move the map. Use the scroll wheel to zoom in or out. You will find all relevant information on the map such as petrol stations, shop, company premises and mission objectives.

The Invoice will show invoices once you complete jobs and are covered below by mission.

The Statistics show the following at this stage and will change as you go through the game:

Expenditure:

Vehicle damage 0.00 Euro
Material damage 0.00 Euro
Physical injury 0.00 Euro
Accidents 0.00 Euro
Refuel 0.00 Euro
Traffic offences 0.00 Euro
Shop 0.00 Euro
Subtotal: 0.00 Euro

Income:

Paid invoices 0.00 Euro
Outstanding invoices 0.00 Euro
Subtotal: 0.00 Euro

Account:

Current balance 5,000.00 Euro

The other options are the same ones you saw in the [[main menu]].

So you’ve got your first mission (small courier job). As you go through the game you’ll get a few more (15 in total). Some of them require you to buy items in the [[shop]]. These are:

  • Mission 3 requires you to have bought the cones.
  • Mission 6 requires you to have bought the work platform.
  • Mission 8 requires you to have bought the trimmers.

But first during the game you’ll need to put petrol into your vehicles. So how do you do this?

Refuelling

You may need fuel. This is the case if your petrol gauge is red and the number below is approaching 0 (when the petrol tank is full this will be 60). If so fill the vehicle up at a petrol station. Do this by locating one on the map, driving there and parking into one of the yellow-outlined slots next to a pump. Get out and you get this message pop up:

Refuelling

Park your vehicle in the marked area. Aplly the handbrake and switch the engine off. Get out and click on the REFUEL button on the petrol pump. When the vehicle has been refuelled to your requirements or is full, click STOP and subsequently PAY. The money will be debited automatically.

The fuel pump will show you how much petrol you are buying.

Price/Litre 1.52 Euro
~COUNT 0.00 Litre
Amount: 0.00 Euro

Mission 1: Small Courier Job

A small courier job in the west and centre of the town. Finish this job by 6:10pm.

Tasks:

  1. Fetch the cartons from the warehouse and take them to the customer.
  2. Fetch the files from the town hall and take them for document shredding.

Go to where the vehicles are stored (represented by a car on the inset map) and go to the button by the gate of the sole vehicle you have at this stage (a standard MPV – multi-purpose vehicle, i.e. a van or as the controls describe it – a vehicle, general) and look down at it until it says ‘‘Use gate’‘. Click the left mouse button to use the gate and enter.

As you approach the van for the first time another message will appear:

Vehicles

In the beginning transport is limited. Additional vehicles and equipment can be purchased from the shop. Press the vehicle help key (default: F1) for a detailed desription of their funcion. All buttons in the vehicle help are those that you have assigned yourself.

When the Get in instruction appears click the left mouse button to enter the MPV.

You’ll notice that a speedometer appears now in the bottom right (and some instructions in bottom left if you press F1 which is useful). The speedometer shows your speed in KM/H. You also see your indicators, your light icon, your door icon – whether your van doors are open or not, your handbrake icon and your petrol gauge. The icons will be red when you have your doors open say, or you need some petrol. Otherwise they’ll be clear. There is also your gear in a little circle, however you don’t need to worry about gears as the vehicles shift gears automatically.

Now drive the vehicle to the red arrow nearby and stop it. Apply the handbrake and get out. Go to the back of the vehicle and open the doors when prompted (or use the side door of the van). Now walk to the two boxes and when prompted take them and put them into the van. To take them click the left mouse button and keep it depressed until you want to drop it. When they are both in close the door/s and get into the van again.

Now head to the blue flag on your little map (preferably without crashing the van into anything because that’ll lose you Euros – the faster the more Euros you lose).

As you approach the blue flag you’ll see a blue arrow on the screen. Stop near there, get out, open the van and put the boxes where the blue arrow is. If you can’t reach the box you may need to jump (press down the scroll button on the mouse) inside the van to get it.

A message should pop up:

You have completed this job successfully.

Next job:

Transport the files safely from the town hall to document shredding.

Get in your van again and head to the next red flag on your map. Be careful of travelling the wrong way down one-way streets though as the flag is situated in the middle of a one-way area. These are the thin roads. So travel down the main roads and enter the one-way system from the top where the road-sign indicates it is you can enter (i.e. a blue rectangular sign with a white border and a white arrow pointing forwards).

Once there get out, open your van door/s again, pick up the two boxes, put them in the van, close the door/s and get going again, this time to the blue flag on the map. Park up and take your two boxes out and deposit them where the blue arrow is pointing. Then you’ll get another message pop up:

You have fully completed the job and can raise the invoice in the office.

The next job is displayed on the map.

Now head back to your office to raise the invoice.
