Introduction

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the SMS game known as Gaegujangi Kkachi. (Don't worry, I won't try to type that too much throughout this guide. =P) Gaegujangi Kkachi is one of a few homebrew games that originated in the Koreas, where you often hear of homebrews notoriously coming from.

This game was apparently made by Hi-Com in 1993 for Sega's Master System. In the twenty years hence, not a single complete FAQ has be written for it, until now. I, along with other members of the GameFAQs FAQ Contributor boards, have taken it upon ourselves to write at least one guide for every Sega Master System game out there and, at least at the time of writing, we're very close with nearly only a half-dozen left! ^_^

And, so, that's more or less how I came upon this came. Thanks for listening to my ramblin'; I hope you enjoy!

World Map (READ!)

^l1|

Please take note of the map listed above. As there is no known particular order you must go through the levels in (for the main six, anyways), I arbitrarily gave level numbers to them, as per the above diagram. These are the links, if you're interested.

Boxed Number Corresponding Level
1 Level 1
2 Level 2
3 Level 3
4 Level 4
5 Level 5
6 Level 6
7, 8, 9 Level 7 Level 8 Level 9

It is recommended you complete Level 2 first. There is a slight, rare glitch in the level that may render the game unplayable until you reset the console, so it's better to get that risk out of the way first. You can do Levels 1 through 6 in any order you desire to do, but you must do them at some point in time. Level 6 is recommended as your last level or next-to-last, as it lacks a shop. After completing the first six levels and getting their respective keys, you'll take out the remaining three levels in consecutive order.

Level 1

Begin by going to the right. Leap over the fire and grab the pickups over it. Then continue to the right to find the blocks with the snakes. Go around and defeat them both on top and bottom, then destroy the blocks for a few power-ups; namely a laser, some tomahawks, and the watermeleon pickup will serve as money. Also beware the nearby geyser as you go around - it hurts, too! Jump over it when it's not firing and avoid the bird nearby. Stand on the dark-green blocks nearby and wait for the nearby moving platform to get within reach. Get on it and ride to the other side - and be careful, as that pit below will kill you!

On the other side, defeat the snake that ambushes you, then destroy the light-green blocks nearby. The leftmost of them contains an enemy, so take that as you will. Also beware the ape-like enemy nearby. He'll eventually jump from his cloud onto a dark-green block. He can be killed before then if you grab the lightning power-up within the blocks, or just wait for him to come down, then smack him repeatedly with your first. In the block-encased pit to the right, you can defeat a snake and grab some pickups there. As for the light-green blocks there, you'll find a laser, a tomahawk, and some lightning.

Proceed to the right and jump over the spikes. Then continue right, avoiding the bird feces as you continue to the ape. Smack him a few times - if you want, from afar with a laser - then continue right and over the pit. Jump on the springboard and grab the pickups to the right. Then proceed right, probably along the top level. Leap over the fires and defeat the snake as you go along. As you approach the edge, be ready to beat a bee and bird. Heh, the birds and the bees.

Leap over the gap, but do so carefully - if you overshoot it, you'll fall into a different gap and... Well, you won't come down for a while, assuming you live, which you won't. It may be best for you to get on the lowest level of the multilevel platform first, then carefully cross the ledges. Be especially aware of the bird dropping his droppings on you - he'll begin his approach as you reach the second platform. No need to run, just dodge or use your lightning weapon. Collect the pickups on the third platform and continue to the next one.

Do so carefully, as there are active geysers there, so be sure to wait until the path is clear. There, continue along and defeat the ape as you have the previous onces, then collect the pickups from the gap to the right. Then use the springboard to defeat the nearby snake and attack the blocks when in mid-air for some power-ups. Afterwards, get onto the springboard and jump to the right onto the high ledge. Defeat any enemies that come along, then take a good running jump across the gap to avoid the spikes and the gap after them.

On the other side, grab the watermeleons and defeat the snake. Climb up the blocks on the left and stay on the higher path as you go. Defeat the snake on the set of four platforms (a laser may be preferable due to the limited space and the threatening gap below). If you somehow have a flying boot, you could probably grab the clover/sunflower pickups below, but I wouldn't risk it. Anywho, continue to the right and, on the other side, beware the enemies.

Destroy the blocks nearby for, notably, a tomahawk. Use it to beat the ape nearby, but beware of rolling boulders, as well as the waterfall itself. Continue to the right and leap onto the platform with the snake on it. Defeat him and grab the flowers and the watermeleons. Continue right along the high ledges, and get on the natural ledge with the green blocks on it. Destroy them for stuff and go left and grab those two pickups if you want.

More preferably, though, as this game doesn't scroll backwards like some platformers, you should jump towards the pile of blocks and pickups to the right. Grab the watermeleons and sunflowers first, then destroy blocks as you will for various assorted goods. Also grab the clover on the bottom-left side, then crawl under for the sunflower and continue on to the right. You'll soon find two shops...

ITEM SHOP
Item Description Item Costs Item's Effects
Card 700 For use with the card shop's slots.
Rice Bowl 100 Restores health.
Lightning 200 Shoots a bolt of lightning straight up.
Potion 500 Makes you invulnerable for a bit. Can still die from gaps, etc.
Flying Boots 300 Allows you to move freely in the air temporarily.

CARD SHOP

This area will simply function as a bit of a slot machine for prizes. You can only use it if you have a card item, bought for 700 units of money in the shops. Depending on what you match up, you will win a useful prize - extra lives! You get lives for having all four of one character, or three of the highest value character (presumably you), or two of the second-highest value character. The prizes are in the bottom-left corner of the screen when you play the game. I think these are what the respective prizes are:

Symbols Matched Lives Earned
Boy - Boy - Boy - Boy 8 lives
Girl - Girl - Girl - Girl 6 lives
Old Man - Old Man - Old Man - Old Man 5 lives
Horned Guy - Horned Guy - Horned Guy - Horned Guy 3 lives
Boy - Boy - Boy - ??? 2 lives
Girl - Girl - ??? - ??? 1 life
Note: "???" implies that it doesn't matter what this symbol is.

As far as what to buy goes, I'd probably buy enough Rice Bowls to refill my health, maybe a few spares, and leave it at that. The Potion can be helpful, too, I suppose.

Afterwards, avoid the bird nearby as you head to the right. Also beware the bee near the right side. Grab the nearby watermeleon and sunflower pickups, then break the bricks nearby. One contains a ghost to beat; the other, a laser. Use the springboard to head to the upper level, then collect the pickups there and go right and through the doorway.

LEVEL BOSS - Yellow Goomba

This boss is rather easy to beat, and looks disturbingly like a palette-swapped Goomba from the Super Mario Bros. series. =/ Anyways, there is truly little to mention about this boss. You probably could come in and just smack it around a little to win. Of course, lasers are usually preferable so you can maintain a fair distance from the enemy. Beyond that, this boss does little to you. Much like the aforementioned Goomba that was ripped-off, you'll find that he just moves around aimlessly to run into you. Since you can't stomp him underfoot (because you're not a certified Italian plumber), you'll simply want to resort swarming him with lasers. If you bought some Rice Bowls, you'll be fine, even if you are hit.

Level 2

In the first portion of the level, you'll see several twirling circles with a belt around them. These conveyor belts will move you along them, although they don't seem to be capable of actually knocking you off as in most games. Anywho, first deal with the blocks in the lower-right and grab the capsules there. Then ascend the lower-left platform and cross the conveyors and platforms to the top-left. Get the capsules there, then proceed to the top-right. There, jump into the tube (you may need to hold Up on the D-Pad) and proceed to the next room.

When Ascending the Tube(s)

There was a single time when I was going through a tube that the game seemed to glitch up. Instead the camera shifting upwards as you left the screen, the camera shifted downwards - and not just one screen, but multiple screens. Eventually, when it ended, I was in a particular room you'd eventually visit otherwise. However, I was also stuck in the floor. The significance of this is that, as enemies are also apparently absent in the room, you'll be forced to reset the game, losing all progress.

As you exit the tube, get the capsules to either side of you. Then proceed along the path to the left towards the springboard. Note that the third block will contain a ghost. When you reach the springboard, use it to reach the capsules, then head to the right from there. Yup, more blocks to crack. The first "?" block has a ghost in it, but you'll have to deal with him. Feel free to destroy the rest of the blocks - one will contain a lightning pickup, but that's about it - but also beware the laser gun above and to the left. You may want to focus on him first if he's problematic. Either way, you'll need to jump on the switch that was beneath the blocks, then go left from the laser gun. Destroy the blocks as you go - you'll need to crawl under the boulder. Crawl also to get the capsules, then proceed up through the tube.

As you arrive here, take careful note of the electrocuted floors. Those will quite obviously hurt you, so, even though space is often limited, you'll have to leap over them. Defeat the enemy to the right and go over the electrocuted floor. Destroy the blocks to the right and grab the two pairs of capsules. Jump over the large electric field and proceed right a room. There, grab the capsules and destroy the blocks to find a tomahawk among them. Go back left to the room from before.

This time, don't destroy the blocks from before. Use them to get to the overhang above the pipe. Feel free to destroy the blocks up there. Note that the leftmost "?" block contains a ghost to fight. Continue onto the ledge above there and defeat the enemy flying around (or you could get under him and use the lightning weapon). Grab the pairs of capsules above the conveyor belt and leap across the gap to the right. Ascend the tube.

As you arrive up here, beware the doppelganger of you nearby - deal him a good smack to finish him. If you were to destroy the blocks nearby, the rightmost "?" block would contain a power-up that would make you a bird for a few seconds, which you could use to fly over the electric fields if you have trouble with that. I will also note that the leftmost "?" block contains a laser pickup, and the middle one contains a ghost. Anywho, proceed to the capsules, climb up the ledges, and defeat the enemy on the sky-blue blocks. Then grab the capsules and destroy the blocks nearby, although there's probably nothing useful in them. You can get to the capsules by crawling. Other than that, go right to the next area.

When you arrive there, destroy the two blocks to the right - note that the "?" block contains a ghost. Continue to the right and grab the capsules, then destroy the blocks further right for a lightning and a tomahawk pickup. Go right to the next area, but quickly return for a more ideal path. Proceed back left and past the springboards. Climb up to the little TNT-esque switch and stand on it to open up the path to the right. Destroy the two enemies to the right, grab some pills, and crawl beneath the top-right boulders to the next area.

Here, go right and first destroy the nearby enemy. Then take out the blocks; after doing so, grab the capsules and step on the switch to open up the path to down below. Defeat the enemy down there and destroy the blocks to the right. One will contain a ghost to defeat, while another will turn you into a bird, and yet another will give you a laser pickup. Continue to the next area.

In this area, barely tap the D-Pad right so that you get just to the left of the electric field, but also without being shocked. Use the laser weapon to take out the hopping enemy nearby if you manage to have enough time - otherwise, he'll just progress onto the next area himself, so it matters little. Hop over the electric field and grab the pillars, and continue to the far right for some more. Go back and step on the TNT-like switch to blow up a boulder in the top-left. Use the springboard to get up towards there and collect half of a dozen capsule pairings - as you go along, it'll help to use the lightning to take out the laser gun on the roof. Then just use the springboard to reach the top-right area and proceed to the next area.

As you enter this area, you'll probably want to immediately take out the laser gun with your own laser - you know, a bout of irony. You may also want to go down below and take out the enemy there (the one that hopped through the wall earlier), although the jumping back is a bit more difficult than it seems, and it isn't particularly necessary. Anyhow, hop across the top half's ledges to the top-right. Take the capsules there, then destroy the blocks nearby - note that the first one contains a ghost, so keep mashing the 2 Button. (Obviously, you should be empty-handed, weapon-wise.) Then jump hop on down the pipe.

Take out there enemies here as you will, then grab the nearby capsule pairs. If you go through the pipe in the bottom-right, you'll find another, but you'll also return here. Speaking of "here", there are some shops nearby. You may want to buy that potion or the boots to deal with those annoying electric fields. Frankly, buy as many potions as you can and leave the leftovers to rice bowls.

After you're done shopping, proceed left to the next area.

Here, you may want to begin by hopping along the ledges to the top-left, obviously using some lightning on the way to take out that frustrating laser gun. (It's noteworthy that the rightmost "?" block turns you into a bird, so if you combine that with the effects of an invulnerability potion, you should make it over quite easily; then you'd simply need to use a laser attack instead.) The top-left blocks have a tomahawk in them. Drop into the pit below for some capsules, then use the springboard to get back out. Hop on the TNT-like switch nearby, then destroy the blocks near it - the first set will have a ghost, but the second set will have some lightning. Then go right and crawl beneath the boulders to proceed to the next area.

Here, simply, but quickly, grab the pills and destroy the blocks nearby. The top one contains a ghost, whereas the bottom one contains a laser pickup. Then just go down the tube.

In this area, destroy the enemies running rampant on your ledge. Afterwards, destroy the blocks to the left (one contains a ghost), step on the switch, and grab the pills here and those to the right. Hit the lower level and defeat the enemy nearby, then proceed to the left half of the area, past the boulders. Use the springboard here to grab the rightmost two pairs of pills, then go left to the next area, grabbing some more capsules on the way.

In this particular area, screw the capsules and stuff. Moving around too much (or, in fact, too little) is likely to get you killed. If you lack special power-ups, try to leap across the conveyor belts (you'll crawl left along the third to reach the fourth) and proceed to the next area. You may or may not want to zap the laser gun with lightning on the way. Alternatively, if you have an invulnerability potion, you could probably just run left.

In the next area, leap in the vertical shafts for three pairs of capsules total. Continue left and hop across the platforms. On the second one, just walk left and you'll hit the switch to open the path in the top-right. Return to the platforms and use them to reach the top ledge. Defeat the doppelganger here and crawl under the boulders to the right, then climb the tube to reach the next area.

As you enter this area, you may want to first take out the nearby enemies with lasers, or whatever other weapon you prefer - they'll just impede you otherwise. Then you can readily climb into the top areas for the five pairs of capsules total. Use the path in the lower-left to reach the next area.

Here, go ahead and destroy the enemy hopping about to your left, then use the rightmost platforms to ascend to the overhand above the boulders. There, smack your doppelganger and use lightning to fry the laser gun. Go left and destroy the sky-blue blocks - none contain anything of note, but there are two pairs of capsules blatantly lying on them. Then step on the switch to open the boulders up below. Go there and use the pipe to continue to the next portion of this lengthy level.

As you exit the pipe, hang left with the D-Pad to probably land on the ledge with the switch nearby - if not, get there. Destroy the blocks there and their respective ghosts, then stomp on the switch to open up the path ahead. Get onto the conveyor belt nearby and crawl to the block. Destroy it and grab the pills - the other block, the "?" block, contains a ghost. Back on the conveyor belt, proceed to the left. Feel free to destroy the next "?" block, although it simply turns you into a bird. Continue down to where one of your doppelgangers resides. Defeat him, then destroy the blocks to the right for one tomahawk pickup and, further right, a ghost. You'll also find some capsules. Return now to the conveyor belt and defeat the other doppelganger of you. Hop down along the trail of pills, then go through the pipe at the bottom.

Begin by executing the floating enemy nearby with a laser shot, then simply head to the right for a bit, popping pills on the way. As you reach the left side, get on the lower level and defeat the enemy down there with a laser, too. Here, you can either hop carefully along, use an invulnerability potion, or use the flying boots to cross - personally, I'd prefer the latter two, since they're a heck of a lot safer. Feel free to grab or ignore the pills. At the right side, destroy the blocks (one contains a ghost) and proceed on to the next area.

Here, hop on the switch nearby to quickly open up a path through the boulders to the right. Ignore it for the moment, though - first, you'll want to climb up top. Why? Well, firstly, there's an enemy up there firing off lasers that will go through walls - go up there yourself and defeat him, preferably in an ironic manner with a laser. Grab the pills near here, too, as well as those in the newly-opened area in the lower-right. With regard to the blocks, they should contain tomahawk and laser pickups, so feel free to bash them in before progressing rightward into the next area.

And this area shall probably be your downfall, as you can probably tell from the fact that ~90% of the floor is electrified. Forget the capsules - just hop across the conveyor belts to the next area. You'll want to work quickly, though, to avoid the laser gun. You could probably deal with it from the first conveyor belt with a laser, or the second one with lightning. Much safer overall, though, would be the use of an invulnerability potion. Regardless of what you do, proceed to the next area.

This area consists of a linear path. Begin by going right and defeating your doppelganger, then going further right and into the lower area. There, defeat the crawling enemy and go along the conveyor belt. Destroy the blocks on the way (they contain little), then pick up the pills on the left side. Defeat the enemy here and go along the path whilst crawling, destroying more blocks - this time, the "?" block contains a lightning pickup. At the right side, collect the pills and crawl leftward. Destroy the bricks on the way - note that the first one contains a ghost, though, so you'll need to do something about him. Continue left and through the doorway.

LEVEL BOSS - Scuba Diver

This scuba diver (or whatever you prefer to call this boss) is a little harder than the Goomba rip-off we saw in Level 1. He will hop around the field fairly constantly, with only a brief pause as he turns around at the edges of the screen. He will fire off one or two projectiles with each jump as well. He can be easily beaten, however. If you have an invulnerability potion, you can just follow him and smack him. If you have some of those rice bowl health restorers, you can do the same, but heal as needed. Otherwise, you can just shoot him from afar with lasers, running beneath his jumps when he is close.

Level 3

Here, begin by going to the right. Jump over the over the fire and brick near it, then leap over the gap to the right, collecting a number of pickups on the way. On the other side, destroy the lighter-colored brick for a laser pickup; feel free to use it on the enemy hopping nearby and then ascend the blocks. At the top, on the three-block-wide platform, destroy the blocks there for a tomahawk and a lightning pickup.

Leap over the gap to the right and land atop the gravestone nearby. Defeat the enemy nearby and grab the pickups on the stone itself. Feel free to destroy the white block, then go right and get the food hanging paradoxically in the air - but be careful because there are spikes below! Go to the right now and jump onto the brick in the air. Hop carefully across to the other side and, there, grab the pickups near where you landed. Yeah, you're gonna get fat. Maybe this is how Mario started off, then? =P

Destroy the light block to the right for a tomahawk, then get rid of the enemies nearby. Go right and break the next whitish block to find a laser pickup. Now jump onto these platforms and defeat the enemies as you go right, up/right, and 'round to the left to grab about ten pickups total. Afterwards, proceed right along ground level for a bit. Defeat the enemy on the way and break the "?" block to find a ghost to slap around. Jump to the right and onto the gravestone.

Break the "?" block there to turn into a bird (although the contrast is horrible such that you're barely able to see your white underside and talons). Fly through the pickups to the right, and try to get the chicken above the boulders to the right. Afterwards, get on the stack of white blocks near the fire to the left. Carefully walk off of the left side (I say carefully because of the spikes nearby), then destroy the blocks to the right that you just walked off of. You'll find a few pickups to pick up, as well as a TNT-like switch to stomp on. This will let you progress through the boulder pile to the right.

Proceed to it now, and let the bony bird pass by before you go on. Once you crawl through the right side of the pile, go left and grab the two pumpkin pickups. Then go right and across the bridge. Collect the few pickups as you go and defeat the enemy at the end. Ignore the "?" block - it'll just turn you into a defenseless baby. Further right, you'll find the item shop. Personally, I'd buy some of the flying boots.

After you're done here - no, the card shop does not appear to be here - go right and past the spikes, defeating a few enemies on the way. At the end, use the springboard (or the Flying Boots item) to get on the block in mid-air. Then go from there to the next ledge - you can do it in one bound with the boots. On that ledge, destroy the blocks nearby and defeat the enemy, then go down the ledges to the right.

At the bottom, continue to the right alone the blocks and ledges, defeating enemies on the way. You may want to use the laser weapon to take them out with a relative bit of ease. After you take a long drop into an area below with two enemies, defeat said enemies and proceed onto the springboard nearby. Use it and grab the five pickups on the bricks, but beware of the bony hand that appears nearby. After it passes safely, take a running leap from the blocks to the next ledge. Grab the pickups there, then continue to the next ledge and break the blocks there for pickups.

Continue to the next part with the bridge. Ignore the first "?" block, as it'll probably turn you into a baby. Instead, just switch to your lasers and take out the two or three enemies here, then approach the doorway for your boss.

LEVEL BOSS - Fire Fox

This boss is a reddish fox, which fits its personality perfectly. This boss will persistently attack you by enveloping himself in flames and looping around clockwise to tackle you. He often begins this with a movement leftward first, then loops from there and inertia will carry him further left. Presumably, you can also get this boss to reverse the process (move right, loop counterclockwise, move further right) if you're on right side of the screen and he's on the left.

The main flaw in this fight is that the boss is still vulnerable to attacks with encased in flame. So long as you know where the boss is gonna go (look at the previous paragraph), you can face that direction, de-equip any weaponry (i.e. your plain ol' karate chop), and mash the crap out of the 2 Button. If you continue to have trouble with this boss, then all that can be said is buy healing items or invulnerability potions.

Level 4

Begin this level by heading to the right and collecting the colored jewels. Destroy the lone lighter-colored brick to the right and use the small path to crawl to a few more jewels. Destroy the other blocks and collect any rewards (I got lightning and a tomahawk). Continue to the right and defeat the bat flying in the air nearby, then get on the low ledge. Leap over to the next ledge, and the next, and so on. At the springboard, defeat the nearby bat (you can do this a little earlier with the lightning pickup), then use the springboard to reach the jewels above you. You may find it is a little less risky if you use the Flying Boots if you got them in the shops in previous levels.

Otherwise, continue rightward and destroy the next impeding brick for a laser power-up, then leap to the jewels across the gap. Continue along this path for some more. At the end, defeat the enemy in the end, then descend to ground level. Defeat the ground-hugging enemy nearby and feel free to destroy the blocks to the left - I found two tomahawks, a laser, and an enemy ghost. Also destroy the lighter blocks further to the right for various things, then get the jewels on the ledges over the bubbling liquid. Use the topmost of these two ledges to get the other five to the left of there.

From the aforementioned two ledges, jump right and onto the upper path. Stomp the switch and you'll blow open a path to the right. Go along it, defeating the enemy that likely ambushes you on the way. Collect the jewels in this small clearing and break the blocks nearby for stuff - a tomahawk and a ghost. To the right, there is a small shaft going down. You can use it to reach two lighter blocks to the left and three to the right, if you want. I got a laser, lightning, and a tomahawk. As you take out the last of the right set of bricks, beware the enemy that will ambush you. Continue along to the part where you stop crawling. There, defeat the nearby enemy, then collect the jewels to the left.

Get on the light bricks near the bubbling liquid to the right. (You'll need to destroy them.) Break the "?" block to the left of there and defeat the ghost within, then do a running jump (i.e. start from the right edge of the ledge) to the jewels nearby. Afterwards, carefully hop across the bubbling liquid nearby - you may want to defeat the enemy over it with a laser beforehand. Once you reach the wall, destroy the blocks and do a small hop to the other side of the spikes, but not in the acid. Then jump and laser-shoot the bat flying nearby, then jump again, this time heading over the gap.

Leap to the jewels on the uppermost ledge nearby, then get those on the ledge just below it and to the right. Beware the torches, though. Use the springboard to get back up to the first ledge, then hop from there to the "?" block to the next block to the ledge. Collect the jewels there and go around to the four below it. Also feel free to destroy the two "?" blocks below that ledge, as they should contain a laser and a lightning power-up. Then work on chopping apart the big wall of blocks to the right, but beware of the geyser just left of the pile. Be sure to get the gem sitting near the top of the wall, too.

Once you're through, collect the next few jewels and chop apart another wall of blocks. You'll probably find a laser and a ghost within. Once through, run right - don't jump - off of the ledge to get to the small alcove next to the gap nearby. Crawl through the gap and you'll find the shop. Yeah, no card shop, same as Level 3. Odd.

After you're done splurging, go right and climb up the ladder nearby to reach six gems. Crawl out of the right side of this alcove, so as to avoid the geyser nearby. Move on along ground level to the next depression in the path. Defeat the enemy down there and destroy the blocks if you want - I found a tomahawk and something to turn me into a bird. Climb up the next ladder, destroy blocks, defeat an enemy, collect gems, and climb up another ladder. Defeat the enemy there, grab the sparkly thingies, then go down another ladder. Defeat the enemy and destroy the blocks, then get the gems and go down another ladder. There, defeat the enemy, grab the gems, and destroy the blocks to the left if you want.

Go to the right now and climb the ladder. Grab the five gems along the middle, then defeat the enemy at the top. Go left, grab the gems, and go right across the gap. Don't jump - just run - and do so when the geyser over there is inactive! Past the geyser, feel free to destroy the bricks and take out the nearby enemy, then continue past the next geyser. At the pile of white blocks to the right, try to get on the top one and jump left to the stockpile of gems; if that's unsuccessful, try removing one block. If that's not, you'll need the Flying Boots item. You may want to also try for the stockpile of four gems across the spike pit - for that, you can stand on just two white blocks and live. Collect the rocks and crawl through the gap nearby.

Down here, get to the left side of the "?" block and grab the lightning power-up from within. Then walk off of the right edge of the ledge you landed on from the small tunnel to get the four gems. Then jump across the bubbly liquid - trust me, it's a lot less risky. Defeat the enemy on the other side and go right. Jump in the shafts for the gems within. At the right side, use the white blocks to get that one gem in the right shaft you probably didn't get, then also those in the air above and to the right of the shafts.

Then destroy the wall of blocks to the right of there. Don't destroy them all - leave the rightmost five alone, then destroy the top-left brick of that and proceed along to the small stash of four gems in the high-up alcove. It may help to defeat the nearby enemy with a laser blast, first. Then descend into the lower area below. Stomp on the switch nearby and that should open up the path to the right, previously blocked by boulders. Go along this path, but beware of the enemy there that'll speed into you.

On the other side of this tunnel, grab the two gems above and to the left, then use a laser blast to take down the enemy flying nearby. Hop across the small ledges to that gem over there. Hop right to the next two ledges, grabbing the gem on each. Here, you'll want to do a running jump to the right to land on the ledge to the right with the two gems - it's a lot safer than going for just the one gem below. Crawl through the small tunnel and you'll land on the ledge below. If you want to, you can now head for the lone gem to the left, but it's overly-risky. Regardless, jump onto the far right ledge. Head into the small alcove to the right to collect gems, then go back up and through the doorway.

LEVEL BOSS - Rat Bat

This boss uses a fairly simple attack repertoire. He will swoop from the left side to the right side of the screen, firing off a few projectiles in the meantime while he swoops low. In effect, you can say that this beast will try to tackle you and hit you with his projectiles.

Ideally speaking, you'll want to stay in the corner for a while. From there, you can use lightning attacks when the boss is above you after he swoops, and then follow (slightly ahead) as he flies around to the other side for another swooping attack. During the swoop, you'll want to switch to using lasers. Alternatively, what I did was jump at the boss and hit him without a weapon (the karate chop attack) as he swooped down. The attack usually succeeded and stunned him. Do as you will, however.

Level 5

Begin by heading to the right and down the ledges into the water. When you enter the water, you can move up, down, left, or right with the corresponding buttons on the D-Pad, attack with the 2 Button, and that'll be about it. Down here, note that the yellow and green bubbles can be destroyed, but the orange ones (plus the Blooper-esque squids) cannot. Spikes here are also not really solid, but do not mistake that with being able to ignore them!

In the water, head rightward and destroy the bubbles. Carefully slide beneath the spikes (hold Down/Right on the D-Pad), then let go of Down when past the spikes. Destroy these bubbles and move to the right, only using Down/Right when the next spikes from the roof come by, and you'll have to destroy more bubbles, too. Here, avoid the squid to the right, and the geyser, by using the path just above you where you leave the spiked area. Grab the two starfish and the oysters above there, then the conches to the right. Destroy the bubbles as you wish. On the other side, go ritght and destroy some more, grab the oysters nearby, then go down and along the U-turning path for some more bubbles and pickups.

Return outside of the U-turn and bypass the geyser when it is not blowing. Stay along the bottom for the three oysters, then destroy the bubble and grab the other pickups within the small alcove you just passed. Destroy the two yellow bubbles nearby and grab those conches - if you have trouble with it, come around from the other side. As you do so, you'll probably notice a tortoise going along the ocean floor - be careful, because he will soon explode, sending fragments all around, and they will damage you!

Continue right to the heart-shaped structure and take out the destructible bubbles around it for some power-ups, like lightning, lasers, and tomahawks, although you may also fight a ghost with the lower-left "?" bubble. And don't forget those numerous power-ups in the middle, either! On the other side, take out any nearby sharks you see, then carefully deal with the bubbles to the right without being touched by the squid. Grab the oysters, then go down for the conches, then head to the right. (Don't risk the starfish - those spikes are awfully close.)

To the right, you'll see three oysters. Grab 'em, then climb up the ladder you just passed to find an item shop. To the right of it, for the first time since Level 2, you'll find a card shop, too!

After shopping and/or gaining lives, get in the water between the two shops. Defeat the nearby shark and grab the conch shells nearby, then swim right into the dammed-off area with the higher water level. Dodge the squid and go along the top to find some poppable bubbles and some power-ups within. Grab the four starfish just sitting there near the spike pits (they're not as hard to get as it seems), then swim to the right by destroying the bubbles. Wait for the nearby squid to get lower than you, then quickly to the nearby oysters. Continue along the top and pop those bubbles. Once on the other side, grab the conch shells, then go down some more. Defeat the shark, then go to the ocean floor. Grab the oysters, then destroy the bubble to the left to reach the starfish. Just because careful of the squid nearby.

Go back to the right "pit" and out of it. Continue to the right, destroying the bubbles if you feel like it - I found a fair sum of power-ups, namely including lasers and lightning, within them. Continue on with this general philosophy for a while. Just beware the unbeatable squids and the periodically-firing geysers.

Once you finally pass a geyser and find the area with the tall wall to the right, grab the oyster near the bottom of the wall. Destroy the bubble to the right and grab the two stafish, then ascend, defeating the shark if necessary. Grab the two oysters up there, then proceed to the right when the squid nearby moves aside. Go along the top and destroy the bubbles to get at the starfish, then quickly speed away from the squid. Go down and left to the four conch shells if you want them, and there are a few bubbles along the roof that might provide pickups.

Afterwards, destroy the bubbles near the right-opening alcove and defeat the shark within, then grab the starfish so we can continue to the right. Grab the six conches in the little column, then pop some of the bubbles so you can move on. As you pass the spikes and the squid, be wary of the geyser between the two. You can also get a few pickups in the pit where the squid is going up and down. Further to the right, collect the oysters and pop the bubbles; popping the "?" bubble will let you at a starfish. From there, go down, then to the right when that squid moves aside. Go down on the other side and deal with the shark.

Continue to the right along the ocean floor for a small stockpile of pickups. On the right side of the next squid, ascend and continue to the right, ignoring the ladder for now, to get about half a dozen more pickups. Beware the exploding tortoise that appears as you approach them, though! After grabbing these pickups, return to the ladder, climb on up it, then go right and through the doorway.

LEVEL BOSS - Big Squid

There are a few analogizations you can make with this to other Nintendo games, namely the Blooper from Super Mario Bros. I suppose you could also say Octillery from Pokémon Gold/Silver - although that didn't come out until 2000, 7 years after this game - heck, Pokémon Red/Green didn't get released until 1995, two years after this game. Okay, enough random crap. >_>

Anyways, this big squid will basically float up and down in the water and spew ink balls at you. These are fairly easy to dodge, so there's little need to worry about that - if anything, you can always use a rice bowl to heal or invulnerability potion to become ... well, invulnerable. With regard to attacking, you're meant to use that thing along the left side that fell earlier. Simply hit it when not equipped with anything. If it hits the enemy, presumably in the face, it'll work. About four or five hits should do it. Do also note that you can hit the falling objects in mid-air!

Level 6

Some Notes

I will note that having plenty of those Flying Boot items will help here, because plenty of the jumps are quite tricky. I did fine without them, but you never know... And, for the record, there are no shops in this level, so you will probably want to do this last, for when you're well-prepared.

Also, as you ascend the tree, the screen will crawl up behind you - it's not automatic, but only as you go up. Like in other levels, this will not go back down. Effectively, if more than half of you or so end up in the black space, the game will probably consider you dead and get rid of one of your lives. Therefore, especially with springboards, you do not want to jump too high, because you don't want that screen coming up any more than it needs to.

Anyways, when you start, jump along to the nuts on the other side. Ignore the "?" block - it contains a ghost that merely inconveniences you at this point - and jump onto the nearby yellowish block. Then go to the branch further to the left and grab the pickups there. Do a running jump from the edge of the branch (near the spikes) onto the yellow blocks along the trunk. From there, cross to the next branch, defeat the enemy there, and grab the apples further to the right. Return to the yellow blocks and ascend up another branch to the right.

Defeat the enemy there, then cross to the left. Defeat the snake on that branch and break the blocks, if you want - I found lightning and a laser. Cross now to the branch on the right side and slightly above this one. Grab what few of the pickups nearby that you can, then cross back to the other side and up another branch. Use the springboard here to grab the acorns and, if you want, the contents of the "?" blocks. Cross to the other branch opposite this one afterwards; grab the apples there and use the springboard to go up and over the spike pit to the left, grabbing an acorn or two along the way.

This jump will be a bit tricky. Do you see those two lone yellowish blocks in the lower half of the screen? On the left block, you need to run and jump to the branch across the gap or, preferably, to the blocks above. Personally, I would only risk the latter with some of those Flying Boots items, but do as you will. Once there, grab the pickups on the branch and continue across the trunk and up another branch.

Defeat the snake there and jump onto the yellow block above you. Then cross to the white blocks to the left and to the branch there. Grab the apples and cross back and onto the next ledge to the right and above you. Break the blocks there to find a laser pickup and a ghost. Cross again to the next stump of a branch to find a couple of acorns, then get on the branch above it. Defeat the enemy there and grab the pickups along the left edge of the screen. Hop onto the vine and climb up some, then press Right on the D-Pad to get those two pickups. Cross to the branch on the opposite side and you'll find a snake there. Defeat it and destroy the nearby "?" blocks to find a tomahawk.

Now, from the duo of whitish blocks, run from their left edge to the right, and leap onto the next branch. From there, cross to the branch across the gap. Destroy the blocks there - one should contain some lightning - and defeat the snake. Cross to the next branch, a bit of a stump. From it, get on the vine to the right. Climb to the top of it and press Left on the D-Pad to get three acorns -- don't press Right or you'll kill yourself!

Back on the stump, jump to the next set of white blocks and continue on to the next branch. Defeat the enemies there - it may be better to laser them first from the white blocks - and use the springboard to reach a few apples. Return back to the branch with the springboard and cross the gap to the branch with the snake. Defeat said snake and grab the apples to the right, then climb up to the stump, then cross the gap. There, destroy the blocks to find some lightning, and also defeat the enemies before you grab the small trove of pickups nearby.

Climb the vine nearby and press Right on the D-Pad at the peak to land on a white block. There, hop across to the branch to the right and below yours. Defeat the enemy there and grab the pickups, and you're welcome to destroy the "?" block. Then get on the yellowish blocks near, cross to the right-side stump, then cross the gap to the next branch. Grab the apples there and cross again to another branch. Destroy the block there, grab the acorns, and cross again. It'll be a tough jump - you have to run, then jump at the last second to avoid bumping the yellowish block. You can always try some Flying Boots if you have them.

Once across, do a running jump from as far left as possible to the yellow blocks above and to the right. Then cross from there to the next branch. Defeat any enemies that approach and collect the pickups along the left side. Jump across to the next branch, where you can destroy some blocks for some pickups. Cross to the next branch for some pickups, out in the open, then cross to find the same on the next branch.

Cross again and use the springboard to run into some apples. Grab them and the others that you feel like are worth it, then proceed carefully to the right. Note that those smiling clouds are platforms, so take that into consideration. Get on the rightmost of them and break the blocks so you can climb the vine. Get on the cloud to the left first, then jump onto the vine. Climb up - it's a lot safer than those clouds!

Ignore the first set of pickups you see next to the spike pit, for hopefully obvious reasons. Feel free to collect the acorns closer to the top, though, then crawl through the gap to the cloud. From there, hop your way to find a stockpile of apples on some clouds to the left. Then get on the whitish blocks between the clouds and dash-jump onto the springboard area to the right. Bounce up and head left. Break the blocks and continue along. At the top level, go to the right, grabbing apples on the way. Defeat the enemy at the end of the path, then go through the doorway.

LEVEL BOSS - Green Dragon

This boss mostly flies around, almost idly. In the meantime, he can fire fireballs at you - though it's fairly well. His main attack is to try and tackle you when he flies around. In reality, though, there's not much to say about this. The easiest strategy is just to use an attack (the karate chop, which is when you're not equipped) as he swoops down, or just whenever it is convenient for you. A few hits and he'll be dead, easily.

Level 7

After having beaten all six levels and gotten all six keys, you can progress onwards to Level 7 - and will do so automatically. The main level itself will only take about one minute to finish - simply hold Left on the D-Pad and mash the 2 Button repeatedly. Yes, that will literally get you through pretty much the entire level. =/

LEVEL BOSS - Sphinx

This boss will mostly float around in a circle, periodically firing off five projectiles. They will be fired directly down, and 30 degrees off of that in either direction, then 60 degrees off straight-down in either direction. This boss still remains as one of your easier ones, though. Simply hit him on the low point of the circle when your own path is clear. Alternatively, you could follow along with the boss (a little ahead, of course, to account for the motion) and use lightning weaponry. Either works fine.

You'll automatically progress to the next level when you're done.

Level 8

Begin by destroying whatever blocks you want to - I found some lasers in the top "?" block - before going left to the next area. And, yes, that pillar is merely a graphic - it won't inhibit your movement.

In the next room, you'll want to ascend to the top-left tube and go through it. While you do so, the fireball will bounce around the room. Like in the other rooms, this will be undefeatable, so just try to avoid it. There's little of note in the blocks, so just go to the top-left. If you destroy a block, exit and re-enter the room.

In this room, beware the fire around the room. In fact, simply continue on to the next room to the left - we don't need you losing any health, given the boss we'll fight here.

In this fourth room, go left and defeat the enemy on the ground, then use the springboard and a laser attack to take out another enemy. Head on to the blocks he was one, then cross left into the next area.

In the fifth room, get on the ground and use the laser to defeat the knight. Then go left and use the springboard to reach the upper ledge. Use the tube.

In the sixth room, defeat the knight nearby. Then get on the lower set of blocks nearby and proceed along to the rightmost black block, then jump from it to the other two, then go through the tube.

In this seventh room, break one of the nearby "?" blocks for a lightning power-up, then use the laser on the knight nearby. Continue right into the next area.

In this room, quickly just advance right and down the tube - that cat will repeatedly attack and cannot be defeated.

In room number nine, exit out of the tube and you'll land on a black block. Get on the next one to the right, then jump at the right wall. Fall down and go right to the next room.

Room #10 contains a mummy, some fire, and another of those cats. Quickly dash to the right as you enter the room and jump onto the mummy's ledge. Defeat said mummy. If you want, you could destroy the nearby "?" blocks, although it's not worth the tomahawk. Just use the springboard to reach the upper ledges and continue through the tube to the next room.

The next room, as one could guess, contains another cat. If you've got an invulnerability potion, use it, because we'll stay here a fair while. Go left and smash up enough blocks to reach the TNT-esque switch. Then crawl to the lower-right corner and ascend onto the nearest white block. Break the white block above and to the left, then hop on the black block it was covering. Pass through the boulders' opening into the next room.

Here, simply jump onto the lowest of the black platforms. Jump and laser the mummy on the next ledge, jump on the ledge, laser the next mummy, take his ledge, and continue on into the next area.

In Room #13, drop off the right side of the entrance ledge and try to laser the mummy nearby. Then trigger the TNT-like switch to get rid of a boulder from the pile in the lower-right. Then go down there, kill the mummy if necessary, then go down the tube. On the way, you may want to shatter the "?" block above the boulders, as it should contain a laser pickup.

Here, simply jump across the conveyor belts and go to the next area. The "?" block contains a tomahawk, if you need it.

Begin this room by taking a leap to the nearby black platform, then to the next one. From there, descend onto the boulders below and use the laser weapon to take out the knight. Then simply go to the left and crawl into the small opening between the two black blocks, punch the white blocks, and step on the switch. Go on down to the next area.

As you enter the sixteenth room, when you exit the pipe, you'll want to time it so that you don't get hurt by the rampant fireball nearby, but also want to make it onto the black platform. From there, you can simply jump along into the next area. It's better than sticking around with an unbeatable fireball in the room.

In the seventeenth room, just simply go around and destroy all of the blocks you want; there's a whole ton of power-ups in them you'll use later on. The only real concerns in this room would be potential ghosts in blocks (simply mash the crap out of the 2 Button, then, when unarmed), and the three enemies, which you can laser from afar. When you're done plundering, continue along into the next area.

In the final, eighteenth room, when you land, ignore the blocks to the left. They just yield nothing but a ghost at the end, which is likely to kill you due to limited space and mobility. Progress to the right, then left along the linear path, destroying blocks all the while. Be quick about bypassing that fireball - you might want to first unblock it from afar with, you guessed it, a laser. Then wait around for it to be safe, then speed along what remains of the path. Go through the doorway to meet the next boss...

LEVEL BOSS - Dark Knight

Your initial impressions about this boss are likely to be fairly correct, as its tendency to fire multiple projectiles at once can be annoying when three hits can kill you. However, this boss is still quite simply handled. First, you can get between the boss's legs - he will remain completely stationary throughout the fight, so do not worry about that. From there, you can jump at the boss's knees and attack them - they seem to be his weak point. If you manage to set up a nice cycle of attacking the boss just as his "stunned" period ends, you'll easily beat him with little but a scratch. If anything, you could always try to use an invulnerability potion or rice bowls as needed to help you out.

Level 9

The final level of the game will consist exactly six bosses. They are done in a style akin to the MegaMan and MegaMan X series - that is to say, you'll be mostly fighting bosses you've fought before, then one final boss. The outer five doors (bottom-left, top-left, top-center, top-right, bottom-right) contain the bosses you've fought before. With regard to the bottom-center one, you will go through that fight after the others. To begin any fight, simply approach the door and press Up on the D-Pad. I'll simply copy-and-paste the strategies for the repeat bosses below, then deal with the final boss after them.

TOP-LEFT BOSS - Green Dragon

This boss mostly flies around, almost idly. In the meantime, he can fire fireballs at you - though it's fairly well. His main attack is to try and tackle you when he flies around. In reality, though, there's not much to say about this. The easiest strategy is just to use an attack (the karate chop, which is when you're not equipped) as he swoops down, or just whenever it is convenient for you. A few hits and he'll be dead, easily.

TOP-CENTRAL BOSS - Scuba Diver

This scuba diver (or whatever you prefer to call this boss) is a little harder than the Goomba rip-off we saw in Level 1. He will hop around the field fairly constantly, with only a brief pause as he turns around at the edges of the screen. He will fire off one or two projectiles with each jump as well. He can be easily beaten, however. If you have an invulnerability potion, you can just follow him and smack him. If you have some of those rice bowl health restorers, you can do the same, but heal as needed. Otherwise, you can just shoot him from afar with lasers, running beneath his jumps when he is close.

TOP-RIGHT BOSS - Fire Fox

BOTTOM-LEFT BOSS - Rat Bat

BOTTOM-RIGHT BOSS - Sphinx

This boss will mostly float around in a circle, periodically firing off five projectiles. They will be fired directly down, and 30 degrees off of that in either direction, then 60 degrees off straight-down in either direction. This boss still remains as one of your easier ones, though. Simply hit him on the low point of the circle when your own path is clear. Alternatively, you could follow along with the boss (a little ahead, of course, to account for the motion) and use lightning weaponry. Either works fine.

FINAL BOSS - Dark Wizard

This will definitely be your hardest boss of the game. If you don't have an invulnerability potion, you may as well turn off the console now and try again - every five seconds, at max, the boss will fire off five projectiles. Depending on where you are, one will go left or right, one always goes straight down, then the remaining three are between those two, going down and left/right in increments of thirty degrees. That basically means he can cover half the field with one shot if he's in the middle. Add this into the fact that he moves around rapidly and you have a fight that it will be hard to last through.

Firstly, invulnerability potions. Those will win you the fight there - one or two should do it easily. At that point, all you need to do is actually get close, unarmed, and smack the boss for some serious damage. It will take about eight hits - double the usual - to beat this boss. Whenever you hit the boss, he will slide about halfway across the screen (or an equivalent length) in the direction in which you hit him. You can abuse this - get him in a corner whenever he swoops down and mash the 2 Button!

After this, the game is over. Enjoy the ending, and congratulations for beating Gaegujangi Kkachi!
