Introduction

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the SMS game known as RoboCop 3. RoboCop 3 is a video game based on of the more popular (and more brought to video games) movies of all time. This game was made by Ocean Software in 1993 for Sega's Master System. In the twenty years hence, not a single complete FAQ has be written for it, until now. I, along with other members of the GameFAQs FAQ Contributor boards, have taken it upon ourselves to write at least one guide for every Sega Master System game out there and, at least at the time of writing, we're very close - under a dozen to go! ^_^

And, so, that's more or less how I came upon this came. Thanks for listening to my ramblin'; I hope you enjoy!

Walkthrough

At the Title Screen...

When you're at the title screen, you'll get two options. You may want to look at the options menu first - move the cursor over to it, then press the 1 or 2 Button. There, you can configure your number of lives (3 to 5) and number of continues (0 to 2). The remaining two options are a sound test option. You can test out the seven background themes and ten sound effects with the 2 Button. Press the 1 Button to exit the menu so the game can begin, once you press the 1 or 2 Button while the cursor hovers over it at the title screen.

Level 1

Level Style Time Limit Difficulty
Side-on 2D platformer 6 minutes ** / *****

Begin the level by proceeding to the right. When you reach teh first box, you'll be assailed by two enemies, one from the left and one from the right. Shoot each of them down and continue along. As you pass in front of the building, you'll find a "P" pickup bouncing in front of a doorway. This will give you one of the several types of ammunition. In this case, it'll probably be a tri-direction bullet. Press Down and 2 simultaneously to switch to it, then deal with the two enemies to the right - one is above and to the right, and one is just to the right.

More enemies will be shooting from windows further ahead. Switch to normal bullets and use Up, Right, and the 1 Button to shoot up at them. Don't stay in their line of aim for long, though - you don't want to get hurt too much. Continue to the right and you'll deal with a similar situation. First use the triple-bullets to get the first enemy on the ledge and the one on the box nearby, then continue right. Take out the enemy that sneaks from behind you with the regular bullets, and do the same with the other ledge shooter.

Continue to the right and take out another guy on a ledge. Further right, grab the bouncing ammo and health pickups and take out the next guy on a ledge. As you do, be sure to jump over the biker that races by - you can't kill him in the time necessary to avoid being hit. Take out the next two ledge shooters, jumping over another biker as you take out the latter shooter. Soon, you'll find some wrecking balls. Walk by carefully, lest you get smashed by them.

Continue right to the trio of boxes. Stand on them briefly to avoid another biker, then proceed right. As you pass in front of the next building, beware of the two ledge shooters. You may be able to get them if you jump, hold Up on the D-Pad, and fire with your weapon. Additionally, beware the flying enemy(s) that come by. There's little point in trying to fight them, as they'll just hurt you more than you hurt them over time. So just dodge on by. Continue along, defeating more of the ledge gunmen on the way.

You'll soon get past the building and see a machine coming by. You'll want to shoot it repeatedly, but it's fairly resilient, so you may need to jump over it or onto a nearby box to avoid being hurt. You will repeat this further to the right, in front of the ruins of another building. Past the next trio of the boxes, and the streetlight further ahead, you'll find a gap in the path. If you look carefully at the bottom of the screen, you'll see a moving platform. Jump on it - although time it as the platform moves toward you - and you'll ride to another platform. Use it, then, at the peak of the ascent, leap to the right and land on the other side of the gap.

There, continue to the right. Beware the flying enemies as before. Grab the nearby pickups and cross the next gap in a similar manner as the one before. Again, be wary of those flying enemies. Trying to kill them will only result in a loss of time and health - it's smarter just to run across. You'll soon cross a third gap as well, this time only using a single, horizontally-moving platform.

On the other side, go right and over the boxes. Defeat the machine nearby and the dude with the rocket launcher. Continue on and you'll find plenty more of these guys, then another machine. Defeat it, too, and move on past the front of the building. You'll fight a couple more of the rocket launcher guys before finding the ruins of another building. Things remain relatively quiet until the screen stops scrolling.

Why? At this point, you'll fight the level boss. The level boss is an overwhelming swarm of those guys with the rocket launchers again. If you can, you'll definitely want to use the laser weapon (third one), as it'll kill these guys in a single hit. And, with them coming a-plenty, you'll want that. The main objective is to simply turn and shoot the nearest enemy. If possible, you may also want to trying jumping over the missiles - this works great with the triple-bullet (second) weapon, as you can shoot them in mid-air!

Afterwards, you'll get the various level bonuses and can move on.

Level 2

Level Style Time Limit Difficulty
Side-on 2D platformer 6 minutes ** / *****

Begin by moving to the right and taking out the four enemies as they come - the ledge shooter, ground-guy, ledge guy, and another ground guy. You'll be stuck with the regular gun for now, but one of those four should drop a weapon pickup to give you a three-direction shooting gun, which may be helpful later. Continue past the barrel and use the regular gun to take out the next three enemies. Further along is a pickup to grab, near the wall. This is a dead-end, so go back left to the building you just passed. Along it should be a sky-blue platform you can jump on - it's kind of above a doorway - to go on up.

When the screen transitions, immediately shoot the guy to your left that's trying to shoot you, then quickly turn around and fire off three or four shots to the right to take care of the guy that's just off-screen. Head left a bit and you should find another "P" pickup, which will give you the lasers that we'll use later. For now, head to the right. Feel free to deal with the flying enemies as they come - you'll want to use the lasers for these guys, as they fire rather fast. You'll also find a random puny human nearby. Continue to the right, pick up the health pickup, then ride the sky-blue elevator down.

At the bottom, defeat more of the flying enemies with your lasers, then proceed to the right. As you pick up the health pickup near the end of this path, someone will fiddle with the machine nearby. Suddenly, more rocket launcher-wielding men swarm on you! The machine will actually help you, so get to the left side and fire off your regular gun at the enemies. Be prepared to jump at any time, of course.

After the battle, continue to the right and you'll soon reach an area that looks sort of like a factory. Here, beware the various balls that come by - they'll all hurt you. Get on the conveyor belt near the ground to the right, then go to the right side of it where it feeds into the machine. Jump on said machine and proceed to the right and past it all. You'll soon reach a weapon pickup (should be your flamethrower this time) and a health pickup. Grab both.

Proceed to the right and over the cars. You'll find a few more enemies here. Just equip your lasers and take out the flying machines and the gangsters as they come. Eventually, you'll find another health pickup and another ammo pickup. Continue on from there and the area is suddenly less populated. When you reach the open area with the big red machine, you'll have found your boss.

This boss can be a bit annoying, I suppose. You'll mainly want to get underneath it and fire your flamethrower, lasers, or gun at it - obviously, that's also the priority order. You'll want the most powerful weapon first. This boss's main attack is to simply jump around, which can be lethal if you stay in one place for too long. Always stick near the edges of the ledges, then, and quickly move as soon as you see him merely jump in your direction.

After you beat him, you'll move on to the next level.

Level 3

Level Style Time Limit Difficulty
Top-down scrolling shooter None, but it takes about 3 minutes to reach the end *** / *****

This level is nearly impossible to guide you through. It consists of a massive enemy swarm that takes about three minutes to go through. You don't have to defeat any of the enemies - in fact, I would suggest prioritizing your survival over getting mere points - but they do yield various pickups to help you. Notably, you'll find weapon powerups that will increase the bullets fired in this level by one. That will help immensely when you fight the enemies and the boss.

The boss is found at the end of the level. He simply moves across the of the screen left and right, firing off a fireball every few seconds. You can easily beat him in about fifteen seconds if you simply follow along with the boss and shoot. If you have some of those weapons that shoot multiple bullets at once, you can also try shooting from an angle, as that'll make you less likely to get hit.

Level 4

Level Style Time Limit Difficulty
Side-on 2D platformer 6 minutes *** / *****

When the level begins, proceed to the right and snatch up the key from the ground. Then head back to the left and defeat the rocket launcher guys as they come along. Remember to jump over the missiles! As you continue along, you'll find a set of triple-bullet ammunition. Nice, I suppose. Continue along, defeating the rocket launcher guys as you go. Soon, you'll reach a staircase. Climb on up.

On the second floor, proceed to the right and grab the weapon pickup for your lasers. Keep the regular gun on, though, and head to the right. Get on the raised platform and defeat more enemies as they come - nothing special here. As you descend the stairs, take out the guy to the left before you head on right. Then continue to the right, grab the weapon pickup, and defeat the next enemies as they come. At the end of the path, you'll find a pickup that will hand you the missiles, in addition to a key. Cool.

Backtrack all of the way to the left to where you entered the floor. There, get on the left side of the downbound stairs and just walk to the left, thereby unlocking the door. Ascend the staircase there.

Here, go to the right again. Go through the door you'll eventually see and defeat the enemies that approach on the other side. When you approach the purplish desk or whatever it is below the chandelier in the background, you'll want to get on its right side - not half, but literally be on its right edge, more or less. Leap to the right and quickly run to the right, and you'll notice that the ground beneath you will crumble. Now it's obvious why you were told to jump, no? Continue to the right on the other side and grab the key, then go back and across the gap. (If you happen to end up losing your life, don't worry - you'll still have the key when you respawn.)

Then go back left to the stairs that took you to this floor, then go left and through the door to their left. Continue along to the next staircase. Go on down. Continue down in the next area and, there, proceed to the right for about a minute. On the way, you'll be assailed by mice. Don't worry about killing them - it's too hard to be worth the time - just dodge them.

Eventually, you'll find the boss, who happens to be wielding a katana. This ninja-like robot warrior will leap to the roof, head down, and strike you. You definitely want to be prepared for this, as you are liable to get damaged heavily. It'll be best to use your most powerful weapons - the missiles - first. From there, you'll want to focus on the long-range lasers over the short-range flamethrower, for painfully obvious reasons. It doesn't take much to kill this guy, though - only about five to ten missiles.

Level 5

Level Style Time Limit Difficulty
Top-down scrolling shooter None, but it takes about 1.5 minutes to reach the end***' / *****

This level is nearly impossible to guide you through. It consists of a massive enemy swarm that takes about a minute and a half to go through.

As you go along, you'll notably find tanks along the ground. Unlike the aerial enemies that you beat with the 1 Button, you'll need to use the 2 Button to bomb these ground tanks. Just so you know.

Level 6

Level Style Time Limit Difficulty
Side-on 2D platformer 6 minutes ***** / *****

This final level is the most difficult of the game. With this level, you should actually begin with having some of the three-bullet ammunition. It is wholesomely recommended that you equip this as your primary weapon.

This level consists solely of a boss fight. The boss - two of the katana-wielding ninja robots you found at the end of Level 4. Defeating them is no easy task, as you could only expect, especially only having minimal weaponry. However, you can easily manage it in about a minute. Firstly, you never want to get too close to either one of them. In fact, "luring" one off-screen will be excellent because - at least from what I've experienced - they'll ignore you. You'll thusly want to slowly move left and right across the area, without getting too close, and while firing your weapon at them.

An alternative strategy would involve the simplistic idea of keeping them both on the same side of you. How to handle that is pretty similar to the previous strategy - you move around to keep the distance maintained, but you're not intentionally aiming to get one off-screen, helpful as that may end up being. Rather, you're using this to be able to use the three-bullet gun to hit the both of them, rather than just one like the previous strategy. However, you have to maintain that distance - if you don't, you'll get stuck between the two of them, and you'll find that swords are quite capable of cutting circuitry.

When you're done, congratulations, for you have beaten RoboCop 3!!
