Introduction
Welcome to another one of my FAQs. This particular FAQ covers Street Heroes. Street Heroes is another one of the prolific company Sachen's unlicensed games for the NES console. This one feels like a more extravagant version of the famed Capcom game Street Fighter. Nevertheless, it is a pretty good game.
Like many hundreds of NES games, it has gone uncovered since its release. Well, there's always a first time for everything, no? Ever since the start of the NES FAQ Completion Project on GameFAQs several years ago - a project designed to get a guide out for every single NES game out there - many people have now been helped because older, rarer, less popular games have gotten guides. So many games, in fact, that all of the North American games have been covered, as have the European games, leaving only those that are homebrews and mostly those released in Japan and the Koreas.
And so, that is how I came upon this game. Thanks for listening to my ramblin'; hope you enjoy!
Gameplay
The Title Screens
^l1|
This game is relatively unique in that you have two different title screens; you alternate between the English-language and presumably-Korean one by resetting the console. Look at the above screenshots of the title screens (the Korean one being
after pressing the Start Button). The options represented remain the same, either way:
- Story Mode, a sequential sequence of battles using only a single player.
- 1P vs. 2P, a two-player competitive mode against each other. Obviously needs two NES controllers.
- Options, where you can configure a number of options:
- Level: Presumably story mode difficulty. Goes from easiest (1) to hardest (6).
- Time: Match length. Can be 99, 60, or 45 seconds, or unlimited.
- Music Test: Press the A Button to hear one of the whopping 54 background themes.
- Sound Test: Press the A Button to hear one of the 37 sound effects.
The Process
After having chosen which mode (Story Mode or 1P vs. 2P), next you will choose your character. As applicable, Player 2 will choose their character next at will, or the AI will in story mode. Human players can choose their character by using the A Button. At that point, an area will be chosen. If in 1P vs. 2P, this is at will and done by cycling through the areas on the map with the D-Pad, then pressing the B Button to confirm.
In story mode, after having chosen the desired character, the game will randomly choose an AI player for you, each of which has their own area. This fact is not represented in the screenshot below.
^l2|A haphazard collage of the screenshots of the eight areas.
After this, in 1P vs. 2P mode, you and your opponent choose the other's attack "level" - the higher it is, the hardest it for you. You will use the Start Button to confirm your choice. After this, you fight. In story mode, you just fight after choosing the area.
The Fight
Basically, your goal is to do as much damage to your opponent as possible. That's all I can really say on the matter of fighting - as for how to fight, check the Character Analyses section. Anyways, the match ends after someone gets two wins. You will if you either take out all of your opponent's health, or have more health remaining after the timer runs out (if applicable). Likewise, if you lose all of your health or have less than your opponent when time runs out, you'll lose. The first to win two matches is the overall winner.
In the case of story mode, after losing, you get the choice to continue. If you win, you'll go on to the next match. As for 1P vs. 2P, you'll just move along either way.
Story mode will end when you fail to continue, or end up defeating the seventh AI opponent, Dark Moon, followed by the eighth, a copy of you.

First, you'll see the character sprites to the of the content. Aligned with it are the following:
ENDURANCE CHART |

REACTION SPEED CHART |
Action | Frame Delay | Seconds Delay |
How many frames actually pass before the game is able to truly do something. If you divide this number by 60, you'll have the speed in seconds. |
STATS RELATIVE TO OTHER CHARACTERS |
Average Endurance | Average Attack Power | Average Reaction Speed |
Gives a positional ranking to how good the previous stats are compared to the other characters. 1st is best, 7th is worst. |
CHARACTER MOVES |
Button(s) | Resultant Effect(s) |
A list of the character's moves and effects. Any reference to a "special move" is vague, as the combos were derived from a manual. Sometimes they work, but quite rarely - I've gotten maybe one or two to work off of chance. Namely, it seems that you must use a smooth transition between the buttons on the D-Pad, pressing A or B as you press the final button. In most cases, specifically, all but the last button combo need to be held down for approximately 6 frames (0.1 seconds), with the final D-Pad button being held alone for 3 frames (0.05 seconds), then with the A/B Button for another 3 frames (0.05 seconds). And, finally, any reference to any direction is assuming you are on the left side of the screen facing to the right! |
Original Manual Page
Here, you'll find the combos in case you can't find them or the effects elsewhere, although this is in a foreign language (Korean, probably):

With regard to the special move marked with a **, this is not the actual combo listed in the manual (Down -> Down/Left -> Left + A), but it works just as well.
