Donations

While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated, and they are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. Introduction

Welcome to another one of my FAQs. This particular FAQ covers Doraemon Kart. Doraemon Kart is actually a fairly decent game for its day, especially given the vast number of generic racing games you can find on the GameBoy and other consoles from the 1980s ~ 1990s. It almost has the style of the famous Mario Kart series, at least in the races themselves - Mario Kart doesn't usually have such a linear storyline progression, to be honest.

It's been almost fifteen years since this game's initial launch back in 1998 by Epoch. And since then, not a single FAQ has been written for it. Well, there's always a first time for everything, no? Ever since the start of the GB FAQ Completion Project on GameFAQs several years ago - a project designed to get a guide out for every single GB game out there - many people have now been helped because older, rarer, less popular games have gotten guides.

And so, that is how I came upon this game. Thanks for listening to my ramblin'; hope you enjoy!

Game Modes

^l1| In all, there are three modes from which you can play. In order, with respective to the above screenshot, they are...

  • A story mode, which the Walkthrough can be used for.
  • A versus mode, requiring two GameBoys linked by cables.
  • A time-trial mode.

General Notes/Tips

  • Given that each course is linear and has no actual shortcuts, there is little need to give anything but a map.

  • All of the characters seem to operate the same, so character choice is purely aesthetic.

  • With each course, you need to get in first place in each race to be able to proceed on to the next level.

  • With each course, you'll find a number of items, such as bottles for speed. The others all hinder your opponents. Either way, there's no point in simply waiting to use an item, so use it with the A Button immediately!

  • When it comes to turning, you'll want to stay on the inside, and also let go of the B Button on turns sharper than 90 degrees. However, also note that items looking like U-turns, when laid by your opponents, will swap your Left and Right D-Pad steering temporarily.

  • There is a sixth character you can unlock by completing the story mode once. That is why there are six tracks - to play this new character's tracks, you'll have to replay the story mode. Thusly, if you're on your first playthrough, there is little need to pay attention to the sixth map of each level mentioned, for that will not be unlocked at the time.

  • Courses are unlocked as you unlock them in the story mode - if you get to a new level, you'll be able to play the courses there in the time-trial mode. (Of course, this again is barring the sixth character until you beat the story mode.)

  • Now, obviously, I reference the tracks by the order they come in. In other words, when you first arrive to the track selection screen after a race, you'll see the "first track". Press Right once for the "second track", again for the "third track", and so on. Courses you have already placed first on are marked with trophies, and therefore do not need to be replayed on that level.

Level 1

^l4|Third track.

^l5|Fourth track.

^l7|Sixth track.

Level 2

^l9|Second track.

^l10|Third track.

^l11|Fourth track.

^l12|Fifth track.

^l13|Sixth track.

Level 3

^l14|First track.

^l15|Second track.

^l16|Third track.

^l17|Fourth track.

^l18|Fifth track.

^l19|Sixth track.

Extra Track

^l20|The extra track.

After having beaten story mode one time, you will have unlocked an extra character. If you go back into story mode by reloading your file -- from the title screen, top option, then top option -- and play through it again successfully, including the extra tracks the sixth character is associated with, you'll unlock a special track in the shape of the feline-like character of the game. There is no other special feature about this track other than its shape, and playing through story mode a third time, when you play on this track, will just eject you to the character selection screen after playing this track.

The unlocking of this track, therefore, indicates that you have finished the story mode in whole. Congratulations!
