Introduction

Welcome to another FAQ of mine. This one covers the GameBoy game, Bubble Bobble, which, in its many years, has not had a single FAQ completed for it. This game in itself is actually quite beautiful (in concept, not graphics). Much like the original MegaMan games in my opinion.

This is one of the few GameBoy games I've done for the GameBoy FAQ Completion Project that I've actually played prior to my joining said project. And I must say I was impressed with the game, both because of its quality in graphics and quality in platformer gameplay. If you've played another arbitrary GameBoy platformer, you can see the lack of inspiration there. But here? It's great.

Well, actually, that pretty much ends another crappy introduction. Here is an FAQ for you. Enjoy.

Basics of the Game

Game Basics

Not truly a bunch to say about this game. In each level, you are to defeat enemies to proceed through the level, or round - whichever you prefer, though they're called "Rounds" in the [[Walkthrough]].

To defeat these enemies, you must first hit them with a bubble using the above controls. Once such has been done (the bubble will get a face), you need to simply run into it. The enemy will go flying and you'll gain points.

Soon afterwards, an item will appear. Merely optional, but why not grab it for some bonus points, right?

Repeat this process with all of the enemies in the area and you'll be permitted to proceed to the next area. All you have to do is stand still. So, yeah, you're beginning to understand JUST how skimpy this walkthrough will be, eh?

Note that touching any of the enemies will force you to lose a life. Not good, obviously. Remember, this isn't Mario -- ANY kind of touching equals death. The game ends when you run out of lives ... Well, the score-tracking does. You can restart the level you were on, just with zero points.

Round 2

Round 2 - Alternate

This level is rather confusing. You'll have to fight some floating enemies and some mages. Defeat the floating ones first, then proceed to fall into the holes in the ground. You'll arrive at the top of the area. There, you'll be able to fight the final of the six enemies to proceed to the next area.

Also worth noting are the water-filled bubbles. Popping releases a strong rush of water that will bring you down and rush you around and around if it gets contained.

Round 5

This level is rather confusing. You'll have to fight some floating enemies and some mages. Defeat the floating ones first, then proceed to fall into the holes in the ground. You'll arrive at the top of the area. There, you'll be able to fight the final of the six enemies to proceed to the next area.

Also worth noting are the water-filled bubbles. Popping releases a strong rush of water that will bring you down and rush you around and around if it gets contained.

Round 7

During this level, you'll notice a "T" bubble floating around. Be sure to get it before defeating the seven enemies and continuing to the next area. Little else to mention.

Round 8

However, I will note that using the "bubble bounce" technique here might be necessary. To use it, launch a bubble and jump on it. If you land on it correctly, you'll bounce upwards with extra height.

Round 13

Also note, due to the "mazy" format, jumping around may be tough. Consider firing bubbles during a jump, or quick-tapping the A button to limit jump height.

Round 14

Round 17 - Wood Area Boss

This boss is quite simple, albeit aggressive. He'll fly around the area and try to run into you, bouncing off of walls as he does. My strategy is rather simple, but slow -- don't go after him. Stay on the ground, as he is bound to come down there anyways, and fire at him. You also could try staying on the platforms next to the walls, going up or down the ledges when needed.

After about ten hits, the opponent will speed up. After about twenty, you'll win and look briefly at an odd -- but cute! -- picture.

Round 18

I must note that you'll need to use the "bubble bounce" technique to get anywhere here. You'll want to wait about five seconds before using it the second time to leave your little hole, because of a nearby enemy.

It is tough to beat this level. A good tactic would be to start by falling down the hole to your right, then waiting for the mages below to face to the right. Then get down, bubble one up, and repeat until all three are bubbled. Then proceed to the ghost-like enemies while also popping the bubbles.

Round 27 - Alternate

To access this level, you'll need to open up a door-like thing that appears at the end of Round 26.

Round 28

This level can be annoying to beat, like the main Round 27. I suggest a similar tactic, although it is riskier -- there are four mages and two flying enemies. Basically, drop into the hole next to you, then blast the mages into bubbles. As it is tougher to get out here, it'll be a suicide tactic. So just hold Right on the D-Pad and rapidly press B to fire.

Round 29

Not much to say about this level of the game, either. Defeat the enemies and move to the next level by standing around. There are around five enemies here.

Here, go up the hole you're in and defeat the enemies on the way up. As you do, beware the robot -- try to shot from the ledge below it. Then fall down the holes and travel to the right, defeating the enemies as you go to the right side of the area.

Round 30

Round 31

Also note the cell-like areas on either side of the level. You'll need to go up there to defeat some robots if you take too long. They can easily get three on you at once, which is impossible, so be prepared for that. Also note, to exit those area, you need to use the bubble bounce technique to rise up.

Round 33

You'll probably notice that big pit in the middle of the air. Well, going in there is tough if you want to survive. I suggest going in there, all bubbles flying. If it fails, or you lose a life at some other point in the level, you can quickly go in there with you brief invincibility period to easily finish them off. Also note you'll need to exit that bit with the bubble bounce technique.

Round 34 - Castle Area Boss

This boss is quite simple, albeit aggressive. He'll fly around the area and try to run into you, bouncing off of walls as he does. My strategy is rather simple, but slow -- don't go after him. Round 36

Round 37

When you arrive, you'll immediately fall down a hole. Fire your bubbles to take down a ghost enemy on the way, then go to the top-central platform to your right to slowly get rid of the mages. The sixth enemy is to your right.

Round 38

Quite the interesting level, this is. You'll be constantly falling here, due to the lack of platforms, fighting the pink and purple flying enemies (numbering three each) as you go. You'll pretty much do the same thing as usual; just you don't get an item of any sort after popping enemy bubbles. v_v

Also keep track of the item in the middle of the level, the one that looks like a leaf. I grabbed it and a door appeared shortly after, bringing me right to Round 39, without having beaten all enemies. Note that this did not always appear.

Round 39

Round 50

I know it might seem impossible to hit the "caged" ghosts, but there is one way. As it approaches one side (note the "approaches" bit), jump when it is about in the overall center of the cage and MASH that B button. The other three enemies are easy enough. Also note you'll have to bubble-bounce to exit the cages.

Round 51 - Sky Area Boss

Any relation to Princess Peach? :P

This boss is VERY easy, so long as you're willing to risk a life. See where he is flying? Well, get on a platform on the same height as him, face him, and mash the B button. You'll likely die the first time; if so, do it again! The period of invulnerability will let you finish him easily enough. ^_^

After about ten hits, the opponent will speed up. After about twenty, you'll win and look briefly at an odd -- but funny! -- picture.

Round 52

Round 60 - Final Boss

Okay, in all honesty, I expected the next boss to at Round 68. The game was going in multiples of 17, which is 10 in hexadecimal. I also noted how the above statements say that this boss knew you'd come. So, I guess it was he who made your brother sick? Or was it fate?

Anyways...

This boss is fairly easy. You'll first need to position yourself correctly, as so:

This formation is at the top of the arena, near the final boss, and you'll be at the end of a platform.

Now, this boss has a systematic procedure for attacking you. At the left, he fires a set of balls at you; in the middle, he'll shoot some in every direction; at the right, he'll use the homing beam again. He'll go left, middle, right, middle, etc.; using each move alternatingly.

Your goal is to attack from the X spot above when he approaches; doesn't matter which. After you get the hits in, move to the left or right, to the wall and drop off. Repeat by going back up there.

In fact, it also is possible to hit him from the left X, then, as he moves left, you go right to the other X, and so on. Note that, after the first ten hits and he speeds up, this may become impossible for you.
