Donations

While I do write all of my guides for free, it does take a lot of time and effort to put them together. If you're feeling generous and want to show your appreciation, I am gladly accepting donations. I don't know exactly what the donations will be used for, but just know that you would definitely be helping me make more quality FAQs! Even the smallest donation amounts are appreciated, and they are a great way to say how much you appreciate the work I do. If you do decide you'd like to donate, please send the donations through PayPal at the e-mail address listed below. Thank you so very much for at least considering this!!

Introduction

Hello, and welcome to one of the first 3DS FAQs I've done in a while. Not too long ago, I managed to remember my PayPal account's password and took a look into the donations in there, at the time almost $100. For the first time, I actually plundered into the donations given by my generous readers and bought some Nintendo eShop cards, and so Darts Up 3D was borne unto my 3DS XL. In what will probably become a mini-series for me until the release of Bravely Default in the U.S. on February 7th, 2014, I will be FAQing a number of the games (~8, hopefully) I managed to buy.

So, why Darts Up 3D? ... Eh... Nothing special, I suppose. I like physics games, and darts is that, pretty much. >_> Enjoy!

Basics of the Game

Title Menu

At the title menu, you can choose from one of several modes of play:

  • Classic: A general game of darts - you can pass the 3DS around for this one. There can be 2, 3, or 4 players with 3, 6, or 9 rounds of play. Playing order is decided by a single throw per player; whoever gets closest starts.

  • X01: This mode is one wherein you are meant to get your points to zero first. Its like normal darts, but as if there's a point ceiling. You can also go for a Double In option where you stick the dart in a double spot to begin scoring (in other words, you must hit a double before you can lose more points), or Double Out where sticking the dart in a double spot ends gameplay. There can be 2, 3, or 4 players here with a starting score of 301, 501, or 701 points.

  • Arcade: A single-player game of darts for a high score. Across several levels, within a certain number of rounds, you must get ever-so-many points. Below are those I know of. To the curious, my best is Level 8 with 2,909 points.
    • Level 1 - 3 rounds, 200 points (average of 22.2 per throw and 66.6 per round)
    • Level 2 - 3 rounds, 240 points (average of 26.7 per throw and 80.0 per round)
    • Level 3 - 3 rounds, 250 points (average of 27.8 per throw and 83.3 per round)
    • Level 4 - 3 rounds, 280 points (average of 31.1 per throw and 93.3 per round)
    • Level 5 - 3 rounds, 300 points (average of 33.3 per throw and 100.0 per round)
    • Level 6 - 3 rounds, 320 points (average of 35.6 per throw and 106.7 per round)
    • Level 7 - 3 rounds, 350 points (average of 38.9 per throw and 116.7 per round)
    • Level 8 - 3 rounds, 370 points (average of 41.1 per throw and 123.3 per round)

  • Ranking: Arcade mode rankings.

  • Download Play: Darts Up 3D supports multiplayer across multiple consoles of the 3DS family (3DS, 2DS, XL models, etc.). You will need one 3DS/2DS per player, and one copy of the software on at least one of them. This host player chooses this option from the title menu while the rest use the Download Play option from the Home Menu.

Darts

To aim a dart, you will use the gyroscope within the console to aim. It's like a number of games that let you move the 3DS: basically, the center of the screen is the cursor. Once you have the 3DS ready, pull back (which is Down) on the Circle Pad and release the Circle Pad to throw the dart. It's simple enough, eh?

Scoring is based on the numbers on a dartboard. It is best to Google a picture of one right now or use the one included with the game's e-manual. A dartboard is your basic circular board divided first into 20 equal sections. Each section has its own point value: going clockwise from the top, 20, 1, 18, 4, 13, 6, 10, 15, 2, 17, 3, 19, 7, 16, 8, 11, 14, 9, 12, and 5. Just within the edge of the board are colored "doubles" areas; halfway to the center is another circle of "triples" areas; and, finally, there's the bulls-eye in the center.

If you land in the black or white spaces, you get the point value of that section. If you land in a doubles area, that value is doubled - for example, the doubles area for 18 gets you 36 points. If you land in the triples area, that value is tripled - for example, the triples area for 20 gets you 60 points. If you land on the outer green ring of the bulls-eye (the bull), you get 25 points, completely flat. Similiarly, if you land on the red ring right in the center of the bull - the bulls-eye - you get a flat 50 points. So, in theory, you're not really aiming for the bulls-eye so much as you are for the triples areas for 17, 18, 19, and 20. >_> <_<

Players will alternate each round. A round consists of three darts thrown by the same person, allotting up to 180 points per round (150 for three bulls-eyes - see my point?). That's about it. My last tip is to aim a bit high - remember, gravity. ;)
