Introduction

Welcome to another of my increasingly-numerous GB FAQs. This FAQ covers a little-known game called Bomb Disposer ... mostly little-known because it's an insane rip-off of the concept of Dr. Mario, with one slight change to it. No. Really. I'm not kidding. One slight change (and graphics, of course). That's it. Nothing else. Not a bit.

It's been over twenty years since this game's launch in 1993 by ... well, the title screen claims Commin, but I'm pretty sure Sachen (an infamous GB/NES game plagiarist/unlicensed dev) at least did something with it. In any case, since then, not a single FAQ has been written for it. Well, there's always a first time for everything, no? Ever since the start of the GB FAQ Completion Project on GameFAQs several years ago - a project designed to get a guide out for every single GB game out there - many people have now been helped because older, rarer, less popular games have gotten guides.

And so, that is how I came upon this game. Thanks for listening to my ramblin'; hope you enjoy!

Game Start-Up

When you arrive at the title screen, press Start. You will be given three options to augment before gameplay begins:

  • Level: You can begin on Level 00 (which is essentially Level 1) or Level 20 (essentially 21); increasing the level increases the difficulty.
  • Speed: Adjust the speed of falling bombs. The higher it is, the harder it is.
  • Music: There are two background music themes to listen to.

Gameplay

If you've ever played Dr. Mario (or it's more recent Wii U equivalent/hack in Dr. Luigi) or some games like it (Virus Buster in Brain Age), you probably already grasp the main points of gameplay in this game.

If not, then here we go... From the top of the screen, there will be falling groups of bombs. These groups will always come in two, and the individual bombs therein will be made up of one of three colors: white, gray, or black. Additionally, each level will have additional bombs already placed (denoted by a slightly more elegant design than the plain white/gray/black). Your goal is to eliminate all of those bombs by matching other bomb groups with them. By laying bombs on the bombs already placed - by you or by the game - you can match up four in a row (or more) and eliminate them.

By eliminating all of the bombs that the game has already placed, you will proceed to the next level. Each level has a number of blocks equal to this: (X * 4) + 4), where X = the current level number, as stated in the bottom-right corner of the screen. If you prefer an "actual" level number (by which I mean the game's Level 00 = your Level 1), then the formula is ((X - 1) * 4) + 4. Essentially, it's four times the game's level plus an additional four. So it's 4 bombs in Level 00, 8 in Level 01, and 84 in Level 20. Levels 21~24 will still have 84 bombs, though.

That's about it, to be honest. The game will continue on and on as time goes on from level to level.

The Game's End

Level 24 (the 25th total level) will be the final one. I'm not entirely sure what is supposed to happen at that point. This text will appear...

Spoiler. Highlight text to view

V City is rebuilt because of your great performance.

... then the game goes into a white screen with a high pitch of noise for a brief time. Whether that's intended to happen or is something else is beyond me, though it seems odd for a game to "end" without a credits roll or a different kind of declaration of winning.

Some Tips

  • "Don't block yourself!" By this, I mean do not try to block any four-bomb chains. Like, if you have two blacks together, then get a black/gray bomb duo from the top, don't place that group vertically on the two blacks. It's just not going to work. It should be obvious, but I feel it's worth noting.

  • "Got crap?" This is a tip mostly prevalent for early levels in the game where there's a fair bit of room around. If an entire group is crap to you, then don't place it on (or near, preferably) anything you are or will be working on; just place them off to the side somewhere. But be sure to keep in mind to match their colors still so that, if you unluckily get like a bazillion of them in a row, you can get rid of them.

  • "You don't have to go vertically..." Bombs can be matched horizontally as well, although vertically is easier to deal with given the nature of the bomb groups. However, if you begin to consider the post-matching effects of where bombs fall, it can be helpful to angle them so they fall beside or on other bombs. And, of course, later levels will sometimes place two bombs next to each other, and it is possible to get a group of two bombs of the same color; why should you ignore that group just because they're not vertically placed, especially if you can make that row!?

  • "Consider where bombs will fall!" This will become more prevalent in the later levels in the game. Most of the time, you will be stacking bombs vertically so that you can get that row of four. However, keep in mind that, once the four bombs are eliminated, the other bombs that were a part of those groups will fall as far as the game will allow, which is the ground or other bombs. Thus, it can be to your advantage to rotate the bombs such that one color can fall on this side, and this color on the other, so that you can more quickly eliminate the bombs where they fall (assuming you don't eliminate them by default: yes, it's possible!). This big thing to keep in mind is that if doing so would force you to place useless bomb colors above another, still group those useless ones together: it will make them a bit quicker to eliminate. And, trust me, you'll do this a lot in later levels.
