Dowsing Machine FAQ

INTRODUCTION

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire were released by Nintendo for Nintendo 3DS in North America on November 21, 2014.

This FAQ describes the Dowsing Machine, but is mostly a list of all the items available in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire that can be found using the Dowsing Machine. The 170 (and more) items are listed by location, in the general order of a "typical" game walkthrough.

This FAQ also includes the locations of additional hidden items found underwater while using the field move Dive.

DOWSING MACHINE

The Dowsing Machine is a Key Item that can be used in many places within the game. It allows the player to locate hidden items. These items can be almost anything, from types of Poke Balls, to health items like Hyper Potions, to other useful items like Repel.

The Dowsing Machine will locate items that are "on-screen" (within the window of your game) plus a distance "off-screen." If you are scouring a location to look for items, you will need to move your player around in order to check an area completely.

You obtain the item by directly facing the hidden item and pressing the "A" button. You can't get the item if you are standing on the exact spot where the hidden item is located.

You get the Dowsing Machine from Professor Birch's child, May or Brendan, in the middle of Route 110, shortly after you battle them.

USING THE DOWSING MACHINE

Once you have selected the Dowsing Machine, your player will equip it on their head.

You cannot "sneak" up on hidden (partially-visible) pokemon while the Dowsing Machine is equipped. Remember to put it away if want to engage hidden pokemon.

There are several actions that will cause your player to automatically put away the Dowsing Machine. Among them are: entering a building, riding a bike, Surfing, and climbing a ladder. You will have to re-equip the Dowsing Machine to resume using it.

You don't really "do" anything (e.g., press a button, tap the touch screen, etc.) when the Dowsing Machine is equipped.

The Dowsing Machine has two "appendages" or "antennae" that emit a colored glow as you are nearing a hidden item AND are facing in the general direction of a hidden item. Use the glow to determine where the hidden item is and to determine which direction your player must move or face.

A bluish glow (and one "rub" sound) indicates that a hidden item is nearby.

A greenish glow (and two "rub" sounds) indicates you are nearing an item.

A yellowish glow (and three "rub" sounds) indicates you are very near a hidden item.

The Dowsing Machine emits a reddish glow, an alarm-like sound, and waves back-and-forth when you are immediately facing a hidden item. Press the "A" button to obtain the item.

HIDDEN ITEM LOCATIONS

You don't have to use the Dowsing Machine to obtain the hidden items. As long as you know the exact location of an item, you can face the spot and press the "A" button to get the item.

You cannot use the Dowsing Machine while Diving underwater. Nevertheless, the games contain hidden items that can be found underwater when you face the hidden item and press the "A" button. These underwater hidden items are included below.

MIRAGE SPOTS

Mirage Spots are locations that can appear in each player's game at random. Some can appear after certain requirements are met (usually to encounter Legendary Pokemon). Of the others, one will appear each day.

While there is usually only one hidden item to be found at each Mirage Spot during each Mirage Spot appearance, the item is randomly chosen from a small list of items.
